November 2022 Show and Tell

A variety of needlework was exhibited by our members at the November meeting. Yes I said November, already! Christmas trees, quilts and sweaters are signals that the cool weather is coming. Here are some photos:

Sue H. sewed these cute, quilted trees and donated them to NANI to sell at the Quilters Plus Holiday Boutique, Nov 7-8, 2022 in Orland Park. NANI is participating as a vendor. More info here

Marjorie H. and her family are creating this heirloom quilt using cross stitching, tatting and fabrics from family members past and present.

Jane C models this beautiful sweater she knitted.

Becky M. and Diana S. attended the Inspired Needle retreat in Shipshewanna in October and had a wonderful time. Each made a tomato pin cushion. And each made a gift for the other. Becky made the "Stitching Sisters" finished in the tart pan for Diana; and Diana her first time ever blackwork portraits of Becky's furry family. She finished it as a Flat Fold.

September 2022 Show and Tell

Members exhibited two items at the September general meeting:

Karen P. showed this surface embroidered ornament finished as a star by NANI friend Karen J.

Marjorie H shared this piece which was a gift for her recent birthday. Fiber artist, Laurel Izard, from Michigan City Indiana, created this design using quilting and embroidery. Her work has focused on endangered species represented by the painted and embroidered macaw. Stitching provides wonderful texture in the bird's body and beak.

Thank you, ladies, for sharing these works.

Join Needle Artisans on Wednesday, September 21st, for a "sit and stitch" at Redar Park in Schererville from 10 am- 1 pm. This is an informal outdoor gathering under the shelter. Bring your project and stay as long as you like. This will be the final outdoor gathering of the year.

Sharing Summer Activities 2022

Hello needle art friends! The Needle Artisans had an eventful summer. Here is an overview.

August brought a highlight of the summer with a field trip to Esther's Place and Lamb Farm in Big Rock, IL. A group of 6 stitchers took a felting class producing adorable Hedgehog figures pictured below, then held a picnic lunch in a park, followed by a tour of the lamb farm. A beautiful day was had by all. Diana S. reported that repeatedly stabbing the felt on this project earned her 5,000 steps on her Fit Bit...lol.

The June and July general meetings were spent in fellowship and stitching. Show and Tell netted these beautiful pieces.

Becky M. showed her scissor fob of a tree pattern finished with lovely tassels. It is stitched one over one, one thread over one strand of fabric. Becky quips she probably won't do that again; one and done!

Jane C. participated in an EGA summer stitch along producing this layered project. "Coi Pond" is worked on three layers of netting in seperate hoops each carrying a different aspect of the stitchery. The hoops are stacked and sewn together resulting in a dimensional look.

Jane and Renee R shared their completed Dorset Buttons. The class was taught by member Marjorie H.

Diana S. displayed a cat stitchery cleverly finished in a hoop displayed in a shadow box.

Marjorie H. finished a needlepoint UFO from her stash creating heart samplers on a band. The hearts were embellished with metalic threads and beads. She attached the band to a tote bag she purchased to make this unique carry all.

This is our table at the Creative Arts Summit at the Merrillville Central Library branch in May 2022. What a nice afternoon spent with other creatives and makers.

suitable either for framing or being

made into a small pillow.

worked as a challenge piece for an ANG guild.
