Thanks for the words of support everyone! I'm not writing the App Store option off just yet, but yes - as mentioned - there are other distribution options if it comes down to it.

Your application is the best available of its kind. The only feature I could possibly imagine is missing (besides downloading files, which depends on the native app being accepted by Apple) is streaming video from the iSight.

It's a shame Apple doesn't authorize your app. Real shame...

An interesting and related incident has just appeared in my RSS reader. It seems the developer of Cydia has submitted a lengthy letter to the copyright office in protest to Apple's claim that jailbreaking is illegal. Part of his basis is that it's the only way some applications that have ignored or outright rejected by Apple can see the light of day. He makes some great points about very popular applications that have been in, presumably, a similar situation as you are in right now.

Your app seems to be pretty darn good.
Have you considered making your app compatible with other cell phone OS's ? Such as Symbian ? A reply would be appreciated.
Thank you

don't know what to say...i think your patience is admirable, but you seem to be up against a system which show little or no consistency in its approach to reviewing apps. i wonder if they actually have any published standards or if they make it up as they go along...

i know what work is involved in writing an app - which is probably why i don't do it!

i also don't want any more games, to-do lists or tip calculators but all the time Apple run the app store we're stuck with their stupid rules with apparently little or no comeback...

is there anywhere where ordinary punters can make their feelings known?

Hi, Adrian.

I'm still flabbergasted at Apple's petty, incompetent attitude (taking weeks to point out grievances that are fictitious: along with all the other VNC type iPhone apps you mentioned, I also have SugarSync which displays the wholly off-limits, to you, iMac icon...).

I must say though that Apple's attitude has been changing for the worse for some time now (ever tried talking to a human being at Apple's App Support?). For what we pay for their products (I have a maxed out 24" iMac & a maxed out 15" MacBook Pro plus a 3G iPhone that needs, in the UK, an exhorbitant monthly tariff: not cheap in any currency) they seem to have developed a haughty, "we don't care" stance. After using Macs for nearly 25 years I'm getting pretty annoyed by situations like this.

I really hope that they deign to accept what is, for my money, one of the best iPhone apps around so we can get on with doing stuff which we forked out for instead of scratching our collective heads at why their being so intransigent.

Good luck & all the best!

"you should have written a farting app - they seem to get approval no problem…!"

There's a serious point in what you say: if things continue this way, fart apps and other novelties might end up being all you can get for the iPhone. As a Macworld article (http://www.macworld.com/article/135729/appstorepolicies.html) puts it:

"If developers are afraid to write programs for the iPhone that aren’t games, to-do lists, and tip calculators, for fear that all their hard work will be wasted by a malicious or capricious Apple rejection notice, they will stop writing programs for the platform."

It takes a substantial amount of time to write good, useful software - probably a lot more than you realise. When software development is your bread and butter, investing time in an iPhone product doesn't look very attractive when some Apple nonsense at the end of it might mean it can't even be released.

So what are you going to end up with? A bunch of quick-and-dirty apps with little time invested in them. Sounds great.

Seriously, you have my sympathy, and in a couple of days you'll have my registration. I'm happy to keep using Safari while Apple keep pissing about and I've been recommending the app to all my mac / iPhone using friends.

Hopefully this will all get sorted sometime...

Hi
I'm a early customer of Farfinder, and i'm waiting for the iphone app since months now.
What's happened with apple is enormous !!! All the reasons for rejection are just unfair. I test all vnc and sharing files iphone app (jaduu, air sharing, datacase, Logmein………) they're all show OSX icons. I really don't understand what's the problem with Farfinder. They are a lot of apps which do the same things then farfinder and they are all in the appstore. So why apple just block on farfinder. It's ununderstandable.
I miss farfinder on my iphone. The app does things that the others don't and i need theses functions.
Farfinder is a really helpful app for all consumers, so i hope that apple just move on and stop blocking farfinder for no reasons.
Best regards
EricB from Paris France.

ps please excuse my english

This is ridiculous. I was thinking the exact same thing when you mentioned that plenty of other apps have displayed many of the same icons, photos, etc. -- and here they were accepted without problem. I hope the message you replied to them with (and screenshots attached), helps prove to Apple that you're doing nothing out of the ordinary. I've been watching your site for weeks, waiting for the day it says "DOWNLOAD NOW!"... but thanks to the AppStore's unfair policies for acceptance, it seems like that time will be pushed back again. But no worries, I'm with you man!

P.S. FarFinder rocks, great job :)

Thanks for your support. Yes, I had contacted Daring Fireball, and now Macworld too. But the more people making noise about this the better, so please do sound off about this wherever you see fit. No secrets here!

There's a great iPhone app here, already written, and users like you who'd love to install it. Absurd! Rest assured I'll do all I can to get it to you.

How frustrating for both you and those who support your software! It is my hope that the Android store, now allowing paid applications, and the release of the Palm Pre, which I assume will be popular, will get Apple moving on this. Macworld and Daring Fireball have blogged about this before. Have you sent this post to them? It might be helpful to get the word out. I'd even be happy to do so on your behalf, as a frustrated consumer. Cheers from a biophysicist in NYC who is hoping for some FarFinder love on her iPhone!

I’d even be happy to do so on your behalf, as a frustrated consumer. Cheers from a biophysicist in NYC who is hoping for some FarFinder love on her iPhone!

Thanks so much for the blog update on the status of the FarFinder App. Every time I get an "you have an update" dialog box, I race to your site hoping to see "the app is finally live!!" smeared across your homepage.

Not yet. Much to your chagrin and mine.

Anyways, thanks for creating such a wonderful app, and I, along with many others patiently await the good news. As my one year old would say, "Silly Apple".
