Executive Summary -

This report contains the key findings and recommendations that were taken during the User Testing done on the Clash Royale Application. It contains 5 key findings from the report along with their evidence, i.e screenshots, and recommendations. The most severe problem that was found to be the inadequacies in the chat room and the recommendation stated is to revamp the chat room and add features that are available on other platforms.

The two users were asked to perform tasks like starting a game, venturing into the store of the game and events, and so on. Their observations and results were tabulated and analyzed to generate possible solutions that have been added in the recommendations section of each finding. Four out of seven findings have been highlighted as key findings. Please review the report for further details. Thank you.

Methods -

Target population - The target population was of the age between 13 and 25 as these were the people who aggressively play mobile games.

The target for enrollment was -

1. Has played the game at least once this month

2. Has been playing the game for more than 6 months.

User 1 - Was classified as experienced, she has been playing the game for more than a year now and plays regularly even today.

User 2 - Was classified as novice as he had played a game only once this month, but has been playing for 7 months although un-regularly.

Testing Methods - 3 tests were conducted, a pre-test interview, a user test, and a post-test questionnaire. The objective of the pre-test interview was to get to know the participant and his/her history with the application. It also included information about the test and information about consent and the test is voluntary. The user test consisted of observing the user while they perform tasks such as open the app, start a game, play a game, venture the store and events and chat with clan members and play friendly battles. The post-test questionnaire’s objective was to gain comments from the users about the test itself and suggestions on improving it.

Key Findings -
1. The Chat Room in Clash Royale Severity - 3/4
The users can only chat with the members of the clan that they are currently in. This creates a problem for people who want to play with their friends, as they have to use some other social media platform to communicate and decide on when to play, etc.

Recommendations - There should be a feature in the app that allows the user to chat with the people in their friend lists as well. This would decrease the requirement for the users to contact their friends on other platforms, thus making their lives easier

2. Slow Internet Connection Severity - 3/4
When a user starts a match and his/her internet connection drops, the user loses the match and thus their trophies. This might generate anger in users towards the app even though it is their internet connection who is at fault.

Recommendations - If the users are prevented from starting a match if their internet the connection is slow, or if there is a provision for the match to be canceled in such a situation instead of the user losing the match, their anger would be alleviated.

3. Inadequate features in the chat room Severity - 3/4
Even if we consider the clan chat room, the features which are available in all the current social media platforms are not available here, for eg tagging someone or replying to their message, etc. These features are used everywhere, thus their absence makes the users feel that something is missing.

Recommendations - Bring the features that normal social media platforms already have, which would make the chat room more engaging and user friendly than the current one.

4. Friend Request to Opponents in 1v1 Severity - 3/4
The users complained that when they played 1v1 and the opponent was very good, they could not place a rematch or send them a friend request. Allowing this feature would encourage and enhance the social aspect of the game.

Recommendations - There should be a provision for a rematch or for sending a friend request to stranger players after a 1v1 battle, which would
enhance the application's social aspect and connect more people together. If a user is a loner, he/she could have formidable opponents each time of their choosing which would increase the time of their gameplay and their interest in the game. The app 8 ball pool has both of these features, for reference.

Conclusion -
This report contains 4 key findings that were revealed in the user test conducted by me. The recommendations given are of my own opinion but urge you to look at them as possible steps going forward. Executive Summary

Google Flights is a subsidiary of Google, offering solutions for travel planning. Usability testing was carried out with 5 participants on the Google flight website to determine the problems faced by experienced travelers using Google Flights to plan their trips.

The test consisted of 6 tasks and the SUS questionnaire. Results from the test revealed 10 usability issues. Each of their severity was assessed on a 1 to 4 scale.

The 3 most severe of these usability issues were examined in detail. They are:

The inappropriate “Book” buttons on the flight search results page.
Vague Error message on missing a connection in a multi-city trip.
The bothersome Search Pop-up when searching for a flight

Solutions have been recommended for each of these issues.
The mean SUS score of 50 given by participants, is very low - indicating a potential bottleneck in user acquisition for Google flights.

By implementing the recommended solutions, the Google flights website can help travelers plan their trips in a much better way. This would likely step-up its SUS Score too. Thus, boost Google Flight's business by acquiring new and retaining existing customers.

Introduction About Google Flights

Google Flights offers comprehensive travel searches, from commercial flights, trains, and charter flights to hotels and vacation rentals through Airbnb. Google Flights website, mobile apps, and AI-powered bots compare top travel sites to show the best flights or hotels at the cheapest price. Their unique UI makes it easy to visually compare results.

Test Goals

The goal of this Usability Test is to answer the questions:

● Can experienced users of online travel booking websites use Google Flights to plan their trips?
● What problems do users encounter when trying to use Google Flights to plan trips?

This report includes a description of the Testing Methods and the Summary Results of the Test. The Key Findings are then summarized and Recommendations suggested for addressing the more severe usability concerns raised during testing.

The online travel planning industry is currently at a stand-still, but should see another boom once fear from Covid-19 disappears. These recommendations would help Google Flights to meet the expectations of users when they’re ready to travel again.

Methods

Recruiting Criteria

The audience for this test is “experienced users of online travel booking sites.” So, the recruiting criteria was defined as:

● Has bought a ticket online in the past year.
● Has not used Google Flights before

Diversity Criteria

Within this, it was planned to recruit participants who differ along two dimensions:

Flight Preferences

● Standard (no special accommodations).
● Complex needs (dietary restrictions, travel w/infant, special needs, etc.).

Frequency of Online Bookings

● 1-3 trips per year booked online
● 4 or more trips per year booked online.

Review criteria

Below is the list of criteria that will be used to score this assignment:

Verifiable: Are the tasks verifiable?

Realistic: Are the tasks realistic?

Leading the Witness: Does the task wording lead the witness?

Order of Difficulty: Do the tasks go from easy to hard?

Participant’s Profile

Five participants were recruited for the test, roughly in the age group 18-28 years. All participants had experience with using the internet, and previous travel experience, both internationally and within the U.S.

Test Preparation

A Gmail account was created for the purpose of this test and it was used to sign in to Google Flights. The Gmail and Google Flight profiles were made available to the participants for the test.

Test Instruments

Several instruments were used for the test. They are:

● User Test Script
● Consent Form
● Pre-Test Interview Questions
● Task Descriptions
● User Test Logging Sheet
● Post-Test SUS Questionnaire
● Post-Test Debriefing Guidelines

Evaluation Procedure

The evaluation procedure was largely based on observing the participants as they used the website for the first time, and made decisions based on the information available.

● They were instructed to complete 6 Tasks while narrating their thoughts (the “Think Aloud” technique).
● During each task performed by a participant, the Logging Sheet was used to note the Task Number, Errors, Assists, Success (with ease, with difficulty, alternative method), Failure (incorrect result, gave up), and other Observations.
● After the test, the Post-Test Questionnaire was given, asking about their experience on the site. The standard SUS questionnaire was used for this purpose.
● Lastly, a debriefing was done. The focus of the debrief was to walk through any problems the participant might have encountered during the Tasks. This was followed by the higher-level questions.

Analysis Methods

All notes, Logging Sheets, Questionnaires, and the audio/video recordings were later reviewed.

● Data from Logging Sheets was used to tabulate Task Success, Task Timing, and Errors. And Bar Charts were generated to present these results.
● The SUS Scores were calculated from the Post-Test Questionnaires and the results plotted on a Chart.
● The Debriefing responses were collated and summarized.
● Severity Rating was assigned to each of these according to the following scale:
- ○ 1 = Cosmetic Problem. No real usability impact. (It is just annoying).
- ○ 2 = Minor Usability Problem. Fix it, if there is time.
- ○ 3 = Major Usability Problem. Important to fix.
- ○ 4 = Usability Disaster. Must fix. (Prevents Users from completing the task).
● The 3 most severe problems from this List of Usability Issues, were reviewed in depth. These 3 Key Findings were analyzed and possible solutions were Recommended.

● Samples of Raw Data, Tables, and the List of Usability Issues are filed under Section 9.

Post-Test SUS Score Results

The standard Average SUS Score is 68. A score below that denotes below-average Usability, and a score below 50 is considered a Fail. One User gave Google Flights a SUS Score of 70 – just about average. All other four Users scored it below average, two of these were failing scores. The mean score given by Users for Google Flights is 50 – a borderline pass.

The SUS Score denotes the Perceived Usability of a system. This is significant because Perceived Usability is linked to adoption decisions. So, a low SUS Score of 50 for Google Flights would potentially affect its initial adoption by Users. This suggests that user acquisition could be a problem for the Google Flights website.

Post-Test Debriefing Insights

Likes

Three Users said they particularly like the Visual UI and the graphical representation of information like flight durations, timings, and layovers. Two of them specifically mentioned liking the sliders for adjusting Takeoff and Landing times.

Dislikes

Four Users complained about the Search Pop-up. Two Users said it is hard to find things, and that there is a lack of consistency across the different pages of the website. Two Users mentioned that it is hard to figure out how to do things, and needs an initial learning period to get the hang of things.

Key Findings and Recommendations Finding-1

The Bright Orange “Book” buttons displayed for all the flights listed on the Flight Search Results page is premature and misleading.

Description

On the Flight Search Results page of a One-Way trip, and on the Search Results page for selecting the last leg of a Round/Multi-City trip, “Book” buttons are displayed

Users would like to select and see the details of a flight/trip, before deciding whether to Book it or not. Here the Booking function is provided before the flight details are displayed. Users tend to click this button to see the flight details and are taken to the airline’s website – which opens up in a new browser tab. This disorients the Users because they’re not expecting it. At this point, they expect to select the flight and see the full trip details – not book the tickets. Google Flights does open a page with the full trip details and an appropriately placed “Book” button. But, the new tab with the airline’s site overlays the Google Flights site’s tab.

While expert users may use this feature as a convenient shortcut, this doesn’t fit the mental model of new and occasional users.

Evidence

All five Users in the study got disoriented and confused the first time it occurred – leading to a considerable increase in the Task 1 completion times. One User did not notice that the new tab isn’t Google Flights, and kept trying to complete Task 1 on the airline’s site – eventually needing help. Two other Users realized the site changed only after quite some time. All of them kept clicking the “Book” button to select a flight, for all the tasks – even though booking a trip was not an expected task outcome.

Severity

Rating 3. Major Usability Problem. Important to fix.

Recommendations

Provide “Select” buttons to select a flight on the Flight Search Results page – as done by Expedia.com. And provide the “Book” button only later in the process, on the Flight Details page, as it is now.

Finding-2

If the User inadvertently misses a connection while planning a Multi-City trip, the Error message is ambiguous and vague.

Description

The Error message, “Oh nuts! We could not find any flights for this search” gives no indication as to what caused the problem, or where it occurred. This totally confuses the User into a dead end.

Evidence

User-3 got this Error message in Task 3 and spent more than 3 minutes trying to figure out what went wrong, without success. Eventually, the moderator had to intervene.

Severity

Severity Rating 3. Major Usability Problem. Important to fix.

Recommendations

Another travel planning website, Expedia.com handles such errors effectively. The input field(s) where the error occurred is highlighted with red icons and borders, and the Error message is “expressed in plain language, precisely indicate the problem, and constructively suggest a solution”

Finding-3

The Search Pop-up when searching for a flight bothers the Users.

Description

Users don’t like the Search Pop-up covering the center of the screen when searching for a flight. Many Users are not sure of its utility – choosing to close it, rather than let it finish.

Recommendations

Internet users tend to distrust pop-ups. So, dropping the Search Pop-up would be a good idea. But searching has to be done to give the Users the best possible flight options. Nielsen’s Usability Heuristic #1 indicates that Users should be informed about what is going on, through appropriate feedback within a reasonable time”. So, the searching activity needs to be communicated appropriately.

One possible way is to use the Google Flight current Flight Search Results page layout to convey this searching activity more effectively.

Highlight the indicated area more visually during the search. Show the “Searching... xyz'' status here. Also, display the number of flight options retrieved, in real-time. This number will keep changing as the search progresses – and will give Users a credible indication of the ongoing search.

An iterative design process is suggested, to prototype and evaluate various possibilities, to find the best practical solution.

Conclusion/Appendices

Results from the test have highlighted some usability issues, which prevented users from completing certain essential tasks efficiently.

The most serious of them are:
1. The inappropriate “Book” buttons on the Flight Search Results page. 2. Ambiguous and Inconsistent process of setting a Fare Alert.
3. Vague Error message on missing a connection in a Multi-City trip.
4. The bothersome Search Pop-up when searching for a flight.
5. Difficulty in precisely adjusting the Time and Price sliders.
6. The confusing depiction of different time zones on the Time slider bar.

Solutions have been recommended to alleviate these issues.

Also, 3 out of 5 users said that they especially liked the visual, graphical representation of information. However, the mean SUS score of 50 given to the website by the Users, is very low. SUS Score denotes the Perceived Usability, which in turn is linked to adoption decisions. So, this indicates that user acquisition could be a problem for the Google Flights website.

By implementing the recommended solutions, the Google Flights website can increase its usability performance and match users’ expectations in a better way. This would likely step-up the SUS Score, and boost Google Flights’ business.

Course Description Obstacles :

1. Current website database does not provide up-to-date, descriptive,

or accurate details on a specific course.

2. Students do not know that some courses even exist,

which could be a factor in the later cancelation of some courses.

causing students hesitation when signing up for the course.

Class Communication Obstacles:

1. Many students only get advice from previous students that have already taken the course.

2. If a student misses class, they need to receive information.

3. It is hard for students to be connected and communicate with peers,
and potential TA/professors.

1. Students may have a better insight into a future course if given the chance to observe.

2. Students enjoy classes and perform better when they are interested
in the course content/teaching method.

3. Some students like to know different aspects of a course such as textbooks,
professor information, homework complexity.

When you click on your profile it takes you to a page that shows
all the classes the student is currently registered for.

You can choose to go to the individual class chats from there.

If you click on the Student information tab it shows a student profile

One can choose to scroll through all the course sections.
Once one is chosen, an accordion menu will open with all the classes offered
within that section.

When a class is chosen, a unique page will come up with two tabs:

Course Information and Course Rating.
It will open on Course Information which contains a detailed accurate description,
when it is offered, a past syllabus (if possible),
textbooks or materials that were needed or suggested in past semesters,
and finally a video or image of the class.

If you click on the Course Rating tab,
students will be able to see what others rated the course based upon set sections.
Once someone is in a course past the dropping period,
they will be able to contribute their own rating to it.

Project Goal

Travel Local is an app for people visiting an unfamiliar city. They specifically want to be able to go to areas of local interest and shop for gifts to take back home (souvenirs, delicacies etc..

Through some market and user, research UX team came with a design which will provide the user with the nearest shops and important places as per his current location without any effort. The user has to have a easy navigation from shopping, attractions and etc. Even though the app's main goal is to make the User's shopping experience easier, UX team have to consider other important areas like restaurants, lodging and local guides as important as a shopping experience.

UX Research and Design Process

What are the users' goals?

Quickly and easily come to a conclusion about where to purchase gifts for loved ones, where to have a quick snacks and visit a nearby tourist attractive location. Spend little time to create a trip, decide places to visit and able to share with any one.

Persona Creation

After a vast user research, Local Travel team understood that, their product target is mostly people who visit a location for few days. Usually a team of 2. People who like to have a quick look at a location which is not too far to reach, within few kilometres. Go to location take some photos, taste local good food, get few gifts and items to bring back. UX team came up with a persona called "The 4 hour person".

Scenario of use :

Scenario of use to describe the typical experience of a customer

T4HP is on a business meeting in a new city, meeting with the stake holders will end with a team lunch. While he was waiting for cab to office (in cab) he remembered about the Travel Local app suggested by a friend. T4HP quickly logins with his facebook acc, searches for a restaurant on the way to grab a morning breakfast. He ads that in to the trip. And searches for a attractive spot and a beer parlour near his lodge. When cab arrives he sent the trip plan to the driver. Driver picks up T4HP at 3 o clock pm and reaches the spot as per the trip details and returns to beer parlour at evening. T4HP liked the simplicity and ease of use of the app "great experience in a new city".

App usage duration ?

Product likely to be used for searching a location or store. And keep using until the user terminate or succeeded in mission. The second case can be once the trip is sent to the guide or taxi driver, user don’t need to use the app.

Will the product be used at home, in the office or on the go? Should Travel Local exist first as a mobile or web-based product?

Mobile version of the service is definitely needed. Busy workers used to use mobile phone in daily life a lot.They can be in the workplace, in the meeting, on the go to/from office, be with clients, but mobile phone is always at hand. It's much more easier to interact with mobile application if you have limited time. And also, in this case, product can be used for all scenarios (home, office, on the go).

Are there multiple users of a single account or device?

Its better to have one user for a single account, but there can be multiple users for one device. For example, dad and son can use one device but different accounts (with different in-app settings and billing info).

After receiving this assignment, first thing I did was going through the Titan web site and check the new campaigns. At first TV ads welcomed me there. Of course everything was related to new designs of titan and offer price for Diwali. Combining that information with the given assignment “Stay New” felt like giving importance to design is more relevant. Need a way to see the main models with a next and previous button is necessary. Social buttons with enough gaps will help the user not do overlap touch.

Think of these tips while writing your marketing flyer and you should be set up for success. Remember the final product should be a harmonious combination of good content and striking design, creating a clear, concise and effective flyer to boost your business.

Attractive headline:- Put a lot of thought into the headline of your flyer. It should be attention-grabbing and relevant to your business. Reading the headline, the consumer should have a good idea of what you do.

Benefits list :- Think of at least five benefits your company provides to customers and list them in a noticeable way. It’s a easy way to tell the consumer why they should choose you.

Research about your audience :- Do some research to determine the demographics of your audience. Keep the message and tone in line with the kinds of customers you want to reach. This flyer is written for meeting enthusiasts. No one else would understand half of the description, and that’s OK. Those who wouldn’t understand probably wouldn’t be interested.

Keeping your contact info at the bottom, Saves the most prominent spot for the headline. The last thing the reader sees, your business’ name and contact info, will be the thing to stay in their mind.

Everything must be clear:- What is the point of all this effort if the customer can’t read it? Choose a understandable font and make sure it’s at a clear size, usually no smaller than 10-point size.
