Last night, I saw The Room, but mere words cannot express how bad it is. I need my friends Geena, Laurie, and Sean to help me describe it. I understand it is coming to the Plaza Theatre here in Atlanta on November 24, which might necessitate a visit. If anyone has seen it, let me know.

Also today I rescued a young cairn terrier from being hit in the road and she was terrorized by Copernicus, but who didn’t see that coming?

On today’s show I interview my daughters Halley and Maia, who have been playing this text-based online game called Faery Tale Online. It’s very fun, but there is a waiting list to get on, as you have to be born to other players. In the game you create your own quests and live in different environments, plus you are not necessarily human. Its creator’s screen name is Lumin, and it’s free to play. Halley discovered it after she had been playing a somewhat similar game called Cantr for several years. Also, coming up is a similar type of game that will be called Reveri.es Virtual World which Halley and Maia are excited about.

If you caught yesterday’s show, you heard me whine about how my mixer was dead, blah blah blah. My husband unhooked all the wires and shook it and that seemed to bring it back to life. So all is well, I hope!

Today we got a return check for a service we canceled, and oddly enough, it was made out to me, only not my last name, so I am probably going to have to call and get that company to issue a new check. The problem is, they used my first name and my husband Dwight’s last name. I have been married 27 years and didn’t change my name when it happened.

I think women should not change their names because it causes their identity from birth to disappear. It reminds me of slavery days, when the massa would give his slaves his own last name to show ownership. My father-in-law is big on geneology, and even he will admit that oftentimes, the woman’s line totally disappears because she is swallowed up into her husband’s family line.

Actually, I am discouraged about marriage anyway for heterosexuals–it isn’t fair if gays cannot marry. The state has no business meddling in religious institutions.

Suddenly, I am getting a strange radio signal bleedthrough in my mixer or maybe my headphones. So I play nice reggae music: “Move to the Sound” by The Undercover Hippy, which can be found on MusicAlley.

Please excuse the sound quality of today’s show. I had already recorded a show for today and when I played it back, it sounded like poo, very static-y and echo-y (a sound sample can be found here if you are interested!). So I had to go searching around until I found my Zoom H2, which is a portable recording device and I’ve used it before. However, I like the sound quality and control of good mics and a mixer board, so I am very distressed by this turn of events, especially since I can’t afford a new mixer or even know where I can get this one fixed–it’s a Xenyx1202fx (Behringer). I know, I know. I should have bought a Mackie.

Ginger Campbell of Brain Science Podcast as well as Books and Ideas Podcast called in to wish me well and as an addendum to my teenage sex show, she will be interviewing David Bainbridge, author of Teenagers: A Natural History.

I recently read an article in LA Times about the controversial wolf hunt in Yellowstone Park, in which a radio-collared alpha Wolf 527, subject of a scientific study, was murdered by hunters who lured her out of the park. Clearly this is pandering to entitled assholes who only want a trophy–it’s not like they need the wolves for food. I’m related to hunters and am trying to understand their reasoning as I’m a city girl and a vegan to boot. But I am so angered I have to calm myself down.

Another year, another month of NaPodPoMo!

I’m starting up this podcast again. We had to move Dwight’s Uncle Clifford to a home because he had some health problems. Two cats died. We got a new lab puppy. I’m unemployed. Yikes!

On today’s show I talk about Rev. Charles Ellis of Detroit’s Greater Grace Temple who had a service with three vehicles representing the Big Three automakers, asking for God’s help to turn the companies fortunes around. I also talk about the results of the sit-in strike by laid-off workers in the shuttered factory of Chicago’s Republic Windows and Doors, which resulted in the loans by Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase, allowing the workers sixty days of severance pay and give them their accrued vacations.

I play a rap song by Elohim Marino - “Money is God” from the album Truth.

Next I talk about the vote on the Big Three automakers’ request for a $14 billion short-term bailout and how the Republicans are admitting to using it as a way of devastating the United Auto Workers labor union. Breaking news that didn’t make it on the podcast–the bailout failed. It’s more important to bust a union than prevent a depression, apparently.

I play my friend Graham Holland’s amazing song “Never Trust A Panda” from his album It’s a Frog’s Life. Graham has a Very Important music podcast also called It’s A Frog’s Life in which he plays acoustic music from Liverpool and the rest of the UK–I strongly order you to check it out. Graham has been pressuring me all along to re-start podcasting after my long hiatus and really, he is one of the main reasons I started up again.

I also found a band on Podsafe Music Network that I kind of liked. They are called Brendon Boogie Band and the song is “Monica Monica” from their album Disposable Pop. I believe they are on iTunes and they also have a podcast called Boogiecast.

It’s the last NaPodPoMo for 2008, and I’m pretty pumped about that. Now I can get into making longer, more elaborate shows, and not having to rush around getting a show recorded and on the feed right away in order to hit the deadline.

Sadly, I’ve gained about six pounds from just messing around and not being careful, and am now going to use the Mary McDougall mini-diet to eradicate some of the baggage and get back on track. Being a no-added-fat vegan is not so easy, especially when you can’t expect people to accommodate your eating plan (It would be nice if they did, but I don’t expect it.).

Once again, if you know of any musicians who would like me to play some of their pieces or if you have some expertise in the areas of liberal politics, atheism, skepticism, freethought, veganism, or anything else along those lines, I would like to have you on the show.

I would like to spend more time actually prepping for the recording session, writing what I want to talk about, having serious discussions with people, etc. And I want to have more guests besides the people who are always in my house anyway–not that I don’t appreciate them!

I would like to start playing indie musicians. I have a lot of folks I hope to play on the show and look forward to finding more. If you know someone or are a musician yourself, let me know. And I want to interview people who are in the fields of atheism, veganism, animal rights, environment, freethought philosophies, science, skepticism, or liberal politics, as this is the focus of my show.

I hate the time pressure, the pressure to be all happy, the pressure to be original, the pressure to spend spend spend. I hate feeling obligated and hate that others feel obligated on my behalf, because I really don’t want anything. I love my friends and family and would rather see them at another time–any time I see people I love, it’s a festival. I don’t need a calendar date.

I’m sad. I love my mother. And I just don’t love Christmas.

I came. I saw. I ate vegan when everyone else was not. I’m still hungry, but I’ll survive. I forgot to bring the humus, and nobody but me ate the other vegan food I brought. And I felt a too noticed by people wanting to know about my diet plan because I’ve lost a lot of weight and I’m embarrassed, but I’ll survive (If only it were possible to be invisible.). I tried to call my mom to wish her a happy Thanksgiving, but she wasn’t home and she won’t call me back I’m sure. And it’s a boring, noisy, windy show. I suggest you skip it. I try to do better tomorrow.

And now I’m eating too many peanuts and Trader Joes peppermint Joe Joes. Alas. So much for eating Bernard-healthy. I’ll be paying for this later on with high blood sugar readings. I’m a little verklempt.

I meant to cook a Tofurky to take to Thanksgiving, but forgot to thaw it. Rats. Oh well, it isn’t that great anyway. I’ll save it for Christmas dinner.

I couldn’t record in my usual quieter place in the house due to the fact that Maia was watching a movie in there. That would have been even worse.

So have a good Thanksgiving.

Is it dangerous to become an atheist? Is life worth living without a belief in God? And is Dawkins the best first introduction to atheism to young vulnerable people of faith (We don’t know as we haven’t read The God Delusion yet.)?

Pardon the sound. I don’t know what is going on–I think my settings are all messed up and was running out of time trying to fix them. Maybe it’s Satan. I just went back into Garageband, reworked all the sound settings, re-rendered it, and re-sent it back to the server, and it still sounds like caca. I give up (though it’s a little better than it was!).
