The tradition of Ijtema was initiated by an Indian savant named Muhammad Ilyas al-Kandhlawi and began as a small group of religious-minded individuals gathering at a local mosque. For forty-one years Tongi has been the chosen location, although similar programs are held on a lesser scale in other countries. The Ijtema is non-political, and therefore it draws people of all persuasion. Prayer is held for the spiritual adulation, exaltation and welfare of the Muslims community. This immensely popular program gives the people of Bangladesh an opportunity to interact with Muslims from other countries and is commonly attended by prominent political figures.

The congregation takes place at an area comprising 160 acres (0.65 km 2 ) of land (0.25 square mile). Devotees from approximately 150 countries, including the host country, Bangladesh, attend the three-day Ijtema seeking divine blessings from Allah. “Their meat will not reach to Allah, nor will their blood, but what reaches to Him is piety from you. Thus have We subjected them to you that you may glorify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you; and give good tidings to the doers of good.”(Surah Haji:37)

The Bangladesh Liberation War [a]

(Bengali: মুিযুMuktijuddho) was a revolutionary independence war in South Asia during 1971 which established the republic of Bangladesh. [14] The war pitted East Pakistan (later joined by India) against West Pakistan,and lasted over a duration of nine months. It witnessed large-scale atrocities,the exodus of 10 million refugees and the displacement of 30 million people. [15]

The war broke out on 26 March 1971, when the Pakistani Army launched a military operation called Operation Searchlight against Bengali civilians, students, intelligentsia and armed personnel, who were demanding that the Pakistani military junta accept the results of the 1970 first democratic elections of Pakistan,which were won by an eastern party, or to allow separation between East and West Pakistan. Bengali politicians and army officers announced the declaration of Bangladesh's independence in response to Operation Searchlight. Bengali military, paramilitary and civilians formed the Mukti Bahini (Bengali: মুিবািহনী "Liberation Army"), which engaged in guerrilla warfare against Pakistani forces. The Pakistan Army, in collusion with religious extremist [16][17] militias (the Razakars, Al-Badr and Al-Shams), engaged in the systematic genocide and atrocities of Bengali civilians, particularly nationalists, intellectuals, youth and religious minorities. [18][19][20][21][22]

Bangladesh government-in-exile was set up in the city of Calcutta (now Kolkata) in the Indian State of West Bengal.

India entered the war on 3 December 1971, after Pakistan launched pre-emptive air strikes on northern India. Overwhelmed by two war fronts, Pakistani defences soon collapsed. On 16 December, the Allied Forces of Bangladesh and India defeated Pakistan in the east. The subsequent surrender resulted in the largest number of prisoners-of-war since World War II.

And from 21 Feb. 2000, worldwide celebrate it as international mother language day. Bangladeshi National mother language bay become International Mother language day. This is really a wonderful achievement for our nation.

The Sundarbans is a vast forest in the coastal region of the Bay of Bengal and considered one of the natural wonders of the world. Located in the delta region of bangladesh & a part in indea

The history of the area can be traced back to 200–300 AD. A ruin of a city built by Chand Sadagar has been found in the Baghmara Forest Block. During the Mughal period, the Mughal Kings leased the forests of the Sundarbans to nearby residents. Many criminals took refuge in the Sundarbans from the advancing armies of Emperor Akbar. Many have been known to be attacked by tigers. [4] Many of the buildings which were built by them later fell to hands of Portuguese pirates, salt smugglers and dacoits in the 17th century. Evidence of the fact can be traced from the ruins at Netidhopani and other places scattered all over Sundarbans. [5] The legal status of the forests underwent a series of changes, including the distinction of being the first mangrove forest in the world to be brought under scientific management. The area was mapped first in Persian, by the Surveyor General as early as 1764 following soon after proprietary rights were obtained from the Mughal Emperor Alamgir II by the British East India Company in 1757. Systematic management of this forest tract started in the 1860s after the establishment of a Forest Department in the Province of Bengal,in British India. The management was entirely designed to extract whatever treasures were available, but labour and lower management mostly were staffed by locals, as the British had no expertise or adaptation experience in mangrove forests. [6]

The first Forest Management Division to have jurisdiction over the Sundarbans was established in 1869. In 1875 a large portion of the mangrove forests was declared as reserved forests under the Forest Act, 1865 (Act VIII of 1865). The remaining portions of the forests were declared a reserve forest the following year and the forest, which was so far administered by the civil administration district, was placed under the control of the Forest Department. A Forest Division, which is the basic forest management and administration unit, was created in 1879 with the headquarters in Khulna,Bangladesh. The first management plan was written for the period 1893–98. [7][8]

In 1911, it was described as a tract of waste country which had never been surveyed, nor had the census been extended to it. It then stretched for about 266 kilometres (165 mi) from the mouth of the Hugli to the mouth of the Meghna river and was bordered inland by the three settled districts of the 24 Parganas,Khulna and Bakerganj. The total area (including water) was estimated at 16,900 square kilometres (6,526 sq mi). It was a water-logged jungle, in which tigers and other wild beasts abounded. Attempts at reclamation had not been very successful. The Sundarbans was everywhere intersected by river channels and creeks, some of which afforded water communication throughout the Bengal region both for steamers and for native boats.

The Sundarban forest lies in the vast delta on the Bay of Bengal formed by the super confluence of the Padma, Brahmaputra and Meghna rivers across southern Bangladesh. The seasonally flooded Sundarbans freshwater swamp forests lie inland from the mangrove forests on the coastal fringe. The forest covers 10,000 square kilometres (3,900 sq mi) of which about 6,000 square kilometres (2,300 sq mi) are in Bangladesh. [9] It became inscribed as a UNESCO world heritage site in 1997. The Indian part of Sundarbans is estimated to be about 4,110 square kilometres (1,590 sq mi), of which about 1,700 square kilometres (660 sq mi) is occupied by waterbodies in the forms of river, canals and creeks of width varying from a few meters to several kilometres.

The Sundarbans is intersected by a complex network of tidal waterways, mudflats and small islands of salt-tolerant mangrove forests. The interconnected network of waterways makes almost every corner of the forest accessible by boat. The area is known for the eponymous Royal Bengal tiger (Panthera tigris tigris), as well as numerous fauna including species of birds, spotted deer,crocodiles and snakes. The fertile soils of the delta have been subject to intensive human use for centuries, and the ecoregion has been mostly converted to intensive agriculture, with few enclaves of forest remaining. The remaining forests, taken together with the Sundarbans mangroves, are important habitat for the endangered tiger. Additionally, the Sundarbans serves a crucial function as a protective barrier for the millions of inhabitants in and around Khulna and Mongla against the floods that result from the cyclones. The Sundarbans has also been enlisted among the finalists in the New7Wonders of Nature.

Kazi Najrul Islam, The national poet of Bangladesh. He has born 25May, 1899 west Bengol in India, Bodhoman District, Mohokuma- Ashansol, and the village of Churulia. He lost his father in his early childhood. He has passed his childhood with very sorrow that’s why he has a nick name “Dukhu Mia”. He joints a “lato Gan team” from his childhood and he gain famous to make various type of songs from there. Later on he takes an admission for studies in Bodhoman and Dirampur high school in Trysal, Moymonshing District. He became famous to write “Kovigan” when he is 11-12 years old. During his study of class ten in 1914 he joint the army of Bengali regiment and gone to Korachi. He began his Literary Life from there. Always he tries to write against Social injustice and Restriction from others, for this reason called him “Biddrohi Kobi”. His each Composition makes Bangla language rich and proud. He was like an angel for Bangla language. Poems, novels, plays, short stories, and essays in every sector he kept his healthy Contribution. Also he achieve famous by writing song, gojol. For Rebel Poetry in 1029 he punished jailed as first time and later on he was got sentence for six month as second time.

In 1942 poet was attacked by chronic disease and he left his voice when he was 40 years old. After establish Bangladesh bring sick poet to Dhaka and give him citizenship in 1972 and awarded as the national poet of Bangladesh. In 1974 Dhaka University awarded him Doctorate Degree. In 29 August-1976 at PG hospital Dhaka poet left his life. Beside the Dhaka University mosque occupied him with entire military honor.

His famous Poetry is “Agnibina”, “Bisher Bashi”, “Chhay note”, “Proloy Shikha” and “chokkrobak” and so on. Story and Novel is “bethar dan”, “Rocter Bedon”, Shuly mala”, Mittu khudha” etc very popular. And famous Article is “Jugbany”, “Durdiner jattry” etc. On the other hand he had a lot of song also. He wrote 58 books and near about 6000 songs.
