Here is a brief review of some of the research evidence on the effectiveness of hypnosis for smoking cessation:

90.6% Success Rate for Smoking Cessation Using Hypnosis

Of 43 consecutive patients undergoing this treatment protocol, 39 reported remaining abstinent from tobacco use at follow-up (6 months to 3 years post-treatment). This represents a 90.6% success rate using hypnosis.

University of Washington School of Medicine, Depts. of Anesthesiology and Rehabilitation Medicine, Int J Clin Exp Hypn. 2001 Jul;49(3):257-66. Barber J.

“I was very surprised that I actually didn’t crave a smoke even in the company of smokers.” W.V.M. – Focus Hypnosis client

87% Reported Abstinence From Tobacco Use With Hypnosis

A field study of 93 male and 93 female CMHC outpatients examined the facilitation of smoking cessation by using hypnosis. At 3-month follow-up, 86% of the men and 87% of the women reported continued abstinence from the use of tobacco using hypnosis.

Hypnosis Patients Twice As Likely To Remain Smoke-Free After Two Years

Study of 71 smokers showed that after a two-year follow up, patients that quit with hypnosis were twice as likely to remain smoke-free than those who quit on their own.

Hypnosis Most Effective Says Largest Study Ever: 3 Times as Effective as Patch and 15 Times as Effective as Willpower.

Hypnosis is the most effective way of giving up smoking, according to the largest ever scientific comparison of ways of breaking the habit. A meta-analysis, statistically combining results of more than 600 studies of 72,000 people fromAmericaandEuropeto compare various methods of quitting. On average, hypnosis was over three times as effective as nicotine replacement methods and 15 times as effective as trying to quit alone.

Everyone has the capacity for high self esteem, and if you feel that you would like to improve yours, read on!

Developing high self esteem is a gradual process which evolves over time, usually with a combination of positive approaches. Changes to long established patterns of thought and action won’t happen overnight. However developing high self esteem is a process you can start RIGHT NOW.

All you need to do is commit yourself to the change and give it time to allow those changes to happen in an easy, natural way.

Are you ready to make a commitment to increase your self esteem? If you are, these helpful tips will get you started. Look out for a SPECIAL BONUS OFFER with Tip 12.
Concentrate on a new tip each day and you’re on the way to feeling really good about yourself!

Be The Best You Can Be Tip 1: Avoid self deprecating comments on your appearance, career, relationships, financial situation or any other aspect of your life. This means not only the things you say out loud but also that voice in your head.

(No……. I’m not implying that you hear voices. I mean the voice of your conscious mind, the “internal critic,” that we all have.) If you catch your internal critic putting you down, tell it to STOP and instead focus on positive, encouraging thoughts.

Be The Best You Can Be Tip 2: Don’t compare yourself with other people. In each and every area of your life there will always be people who have more than you and some who have less. There will be someone with more money, someone else with a more endearing personality, better looks, creative talent… and the list goes on.
All you have to be is YOU. You are a unique combination of talents, abilities and personality traits, with enormous potential and the capacity for experiencing love of yourself and extending love to others. Once your self esteem grows, the real you emerges: You start becoming the best you can be!

Be The Best You Can Be Tip 3: Learn to say a simple “Thank you” for all the compliments you receive. Contradicting or belittling your achievement or attribute is unhelpful.

Rejecting a compliment with a statement like “It was nothing” means that you think you didn’t deserve it and you’re not worthy of the praise. When you simply say “Thank you,” the person giving the compliment will feel good too.

Be The Best You Can Be Tip 4: Use positive affirmations, for instance “I like and accept myself” or “I am a valuable, lovable person” or I deserve the best in life” or “I am a considerate friend.” Write one on a piece of card and carry it with you, repeating it to yourself many times throughout the day.

Be The Best You Can Be BONUS Tip: Allow Focus Hypnosis to escalate the change process with hypnotherapy. Why? Because in hypnosis the powerful subconscious mind is highly suggestible and open to ideas. Affirmations which take hundreds of repetitions to be effective, are readily accepted and believed by the subconscious mind in hypnosis.

“I’m extremely pleased with my treatment and newfound general confidence in my ability to handle anything that might arise. I highly recommend Hilary to anyone.” D. Brown

Many people notice immediate benefits from hypnotherapy. Others find positive changes develop naturally over a matter of weeks, instead of the months or years it may otherwise take.

Be The Best You Can Be Tip 5:

Be aware of the company you keep and as much as possible surround yourself with positive, supportive people, not those who are negative or who put you and your ideas down. Actively connect with those who accept and encourage you.

Be The Best You Can Be Tip 6: Think about all your past successes and put them on a list. Start with accomplishments you remember from childhood, for example learning to ride a bike. No one else needs to see this list, so write the things you are proud of, no matter how unimportant the events may appear to others.

Make at least 10 things in your initial list. Read this list often and add to it. While you are reading it, try to recreate the feelings of satisfaction and joy you experienced when you attained the success.

Be The Best You Can Be Tip 7: Pay more attention to offering compliments and help to others. You will feel that you’re making a valuable contribution to their well being.
This in turn will lift your spirits and make your relationships more rewarding.

Be The Best You Can Be Tip 8:
Make another list of your positive qualities. There should be at least 20 of them. Don’t be shy, be generous with yourself. Also review this list often.
Be The Best You Can Be BONUS Tip: Bring this list with you when come for your hypnotherapy session. It will be beneficial to incorporate your positive qualities into the session.

Be The Best You Can Be Tip 9: Remind yourself of the areas of strength in your life. What gives you joy or satisfaction? It may be your relationships with family or friends, your career or your leisure activities.

Always involve yourself in activities that you love and that you find stimulating. Avoid work you despise. If you don’t have the chance to explore alternative career options at the present, make sure that your leisure time activities nourish you.

Be The Best You Can Be Tip 10: Have the life you want to live, not the life others have decided is best for you.

You have to lead the life you want to lead in order to gain self-respect and feel good about yourself. Be true to yourself – don’t make decisions to gain the approval of friends or relatives.

Be The Best You Can Be Tip 11: Don’t sit on the sidelines or back away from challenges. Push yourself to take action. If you are afraid of moving forward you’ll end up frustrated and unhappy with yourself.
So be the best that you can be. In a positive, sensible way, start taking more risks in a small way at first.

Challenge yourself to move forward without fear of failure or the need for others to approve of you. Praise yourself for your steps forward, no matter how small.

Be The Best You Can Be Tip 12: Book in for hypnotherapy at Focus Hypnosis. When you’re committed to making positive changes, you can expect to see a difference in 3 to 5 sessions.

Mention this offer when you book your first session and receive a FREE Relaxation cd to take home. This cd is ideal for releasing tension and enjoying a short but blissfully relaxing hypnotherapy session at home.

If you are expecting a baby – Congratulations! This is a wonderful and very exciting time for you. You have so much to look forward to and by learning self-hypnosis you can take a huge step towards a confident, relaxed and empowering birth, free from fear. You may not have considered hypnosis for childbirth before, so here are a few facts:

Did you know?
* The average length of labour for mums using prenatal hypnosis is significantly reduced. One study (Jenkins and Pritchard, 1993) of 126 first time mums found that labour lasted on average 6.4 hours after hypnosis, compared with 9.4 hours for mums without hypnosis. Even more amazing, a retrospective survey by Gallagher (2001) noted that participants in the Hypnosis for Childbirth series averaged 4.5 hours of active labour, compared with 12 hours in other first time mums.

* Mums using hypnosis preparation for childbirth use significantly less medication. Both sets of research back this up. This is good for baby, and good for you because less drugs means faster recovery.

* You can learn the self-hypnosis techniques needed for a comfortable and confident childbirth in just 4 individual sessions. And you remain fully aware and able to cooperate with doctors and midwives throughout.

Your experience of the miracle of childbirth can be gentle, loving and comfortable. .

Smoking cessation with hypnosis has a higher success rate than any of the physical means on the market, such as gums, pills and patches. These methods tend to deal with the presence of nicotine, rather than the habit or pleasurable associations connected to smoking. Nicotine is gone from the body in 2 to 4 days but as we are all aware, many people who quit smoking relapse and return to the habit after some time. Basically it’s not the physical effect of smoking that is addictive.

Smoking is a psychological and emotional addiction. Certain behaviours such as drinking, having a meal or socialising become linked to smoking through repetition, creating neural pathways and pleasurable associations. Hypnotherapy can change the pathways and “rewire” the triggers that used to lead to a cigarette.

Perhaps you’ve tried to quit smoking before and found it too difficult or maybe you succeeded for a while and have then gone back to the habit, feeling disappointed with yourself. Hypnotherapy can help you to be a permanent non-smoker by using the power of your subconscious mind. All you need is a strong desire to rid yourself of the habit and be willing to make a commitment.

“If you are seriously thinking of giving up smoking please do not hesitate to make an appointment with Hilary. You will be glad you did.” W.V.M.

Your Commitment:
1. Decide that this is what you really want to do
- become a permanent non-smoker

It’s 2011 and time for a new start! Time to make those positive changes you’ve been putting off for a while. A New Year is like a blank slate – wiped clean of the past, full of optimism and ready for success with New Year’s resolutions.

However, maybe you have heard that little negative voice that lives inside your head telling you that you’ve tried and failed before. You know, that inner critic that loves to remind you of past mistakes and attacks your self confidence when you try something new? We all have one of these. The voice that uses nasty tactics to avoid change in an attempt to keep you safe. It throws self-doubt at you all the time and would like to see you safely wrapped up in cotton wool. How can you expect to make changes, to have success with New Year’s resolutions, if you listen to that?

There is a way to bypass that inner voice and approach your New Year’s resolution with energy and optimism. It’s by communicating directly with your subconscious mind, which is open to new ideas and is uncritical. Your subconscious mind is infinitely more powerful than your conscious mind and it can be accessed through hypnotherapy.

Hypnotherapy can help you to achieve success with your New Year’s resolutions easily. How would it feel to completely lose the desire for cigarettes ? Or to lose your fear of flying, or to develop strong self confidence? To start living a healthy, happy, full life?

” I have seen big improvements almost straight away.” Sarah G – Focus Hypnosis client

How to achieve success with New Year’s Resolutions

If you are all fired up with enthusiasm and want to get started now, follow these simple tips:

1. Identify your goal eg: give up smoking, lose weight
2. Write down what you will do to achieve this. It’s pointless to have a goal without formulating how you can get there. Try breaking your goal into small steps if appropriate. Attach these specific goals to a time frame. If it’s weight loss you are aiming for, make sure you set manageable specific goals.
3. Avoid environments where you might be tempted. If you can’t avoid them, plan how to handle them ahead of time.

Try this now for success with New Year’s Resolutions

Here is a simple strategy, using the power of your subconscious mind, that you can try NOW. Do this daily for at least three weeks and you can override that inner critic. By instilling this vision of yourself over time, it becomes a habit – you truly believe that it is possible.

Find a quiet and comfortable place to sit where you won’t be disturbed for 15 minutes or so. You will need to be relaxed so that your subconscious mind can be engaged. This is similar to, but not as deep as the state you enter during hypnosis.

Close your eyes and take in a deep breath. As you exhale, allow your body to relax comfortably. Do this twice more. Now breathe naturally, noticing the very instant that air enters your mouth or nostrils and the very moment that the last bit of air is expelled. Keep this intense focus on nothing but your breathing for 10 breaths.

Now use your imagination. Picture your future self before you. This is you after you have achieved total success with your New Year’s resolution. It doesn’t matter if your visualisation is sketchy, it doesn’t have to be photo quality to be effective.

Your future self is the best you can be, your most magnificent self. Imagine this future self doing familiar actions. See how he/she stands, walks, talks to others. Notice how capable and confident your future self is. Spend a few moments observing your future self.

Now, using your imagination, step into the body of your future self. Feel yourself wearing that body like a warm outer layer of clothing. Now see through the eyes of your new self. Hear with the eyes of your new self. Does it feel different? Enjoy the confident, self-assured feeling that you have, now that you’ve achieved success with your New Year’s resolution.

Allow yourself a few minutes to daydream about how your life will be and then, when you are ready, take a deep breath and open your eyes.

However, some of us do not regularly enjoy the benefits of a relaxing and refreshing full night’s sleep. The resultant tiredness has a detrimental impact on our ability to think clearly, make wise decisions and perform our work efficiently. Lack of sound sleep also drags down our energy levels and affects our emotions, for instance in the way we perceive our lives and the way we interact with family, friends and associates.

Have you ever had trouble getting to sleep, or have you woken during the night and had difficulty getting back to sleep? This can be so frustrating! Poor sleep is often related to stress but at other times the cause is unknown. The good news is that hypnotherapy can help. Hypnotherapy uses the tremendous power of your own mind to relieve stress and give you mental strategies which will enable you to achieve a healthy sleep pattern and maintain it.

Unlike some other remedies, hypnosis is a powerful, natural tool with absolutely no adverse side effects. There is nothing magical about hypnosis. The hypnotic state occurs naturally several times a day, for instance in that aware but “drifting” state when you are just waking up, or when you are driving a familiar route and can’t remember driving the last few kilometres because your conscious mind has been elsewhere. Hypnotherapist Hilary Wright uses the power of suggestion to induce the hypnotic state in her client and then works with the client’s altered state of mind to effect the desired therapeutic change.

If you suffer from insomnia, hypnotherapy can help you. If you know your sleep is not leaving you refreshed and ready to get the most out of your day, make an appointment with Hilary. Lasting benefits can be expected in just three sessions.

Make easy, restful sleep a health priority.
