Black tea can help fight diabetes

Washington, Aug 1 : Besides boosting the immune system, black tea can be used to control diabetes, according to a new study.

The research has been published in the Journal of Food Science, published by the Institute of Food Technologists.

To reach the conclusion, researchers from the Tianjin Key Laboratory in China studied the polysaccharide levels of green, oolong and black teas and whether they could be used to treat diabetes.

Polysaccharides, a type of carbohydrate that includes starch and cellulose, may benefit people with diabetes because they help retard absorption of glucose. The researchers found that of the three teas, the polysaccharides in black tea had the most glucose-inhibiting properties.

The black tea polysaccharides also showed the highest scavenging effect on free radicals, which are involved in the onset of diseases such as cancer and rheumatoid arthritis.

"Many efforts have been made to search for effective glucose inhibitors from natural materials," says lead researcher Haixia Chen.

"There is a potential for exploitation of black tea polysaccharide in managing diabetes," the expert added. (ANI)

I have heard that nuffnangers need at least 20 UNIQUE viewers a day to get ads on their site [correct me if I'm wrong please.] I know it's kind of frustrating especially to new bloggers who get less than 20 unique viewers a day. So i came up with a kind-of-lame-yet-good-enough idea.. And that is to make a team who would build traffic on each others site.

How does it work? Simple. Once you join the team, other team members will click on your site and leave a comment on your chatbox/shoutbox/crapbox with a DATE, that way you'd know if they DID or did NOT view your site. IF they DID, you SHOULD return the favor by viewing their site and leaving a comment. IF they DID NOT, then don't bother. It's up to you to check them out or not.

Blog URLs will be posted with their status if they are active or what. Inactive losers shall be reported so as to avoid wasting time. =D

Now if you want to join, don't be shy, just leave a comment or PM me. All we need is time to get more members.

It's the 1st day of 2009, and i'm here having coffee, trying to summon optimism in my veins, not wanting to be in a crappy mood coz i was up so early, and i don't want to feel lazy either. [mind over matter, baby!]

Anyway, tradition dictates that every year, you should try to kick bad habits and start your life anew. So imma sit down with a cup of coffee, a paper and a pen, and reflect: What kind of New Years Resolution will i make for myself this January 1st? [i'm being positive here so shut up.]

Facebook faces protestors

Protest against Facebook Ban of Breastfeeding Photos

Facebook is facing an online protest after removing pictures of breastfeeding mothers found to be overly revealing from the pages of members of the social network.

A Facebook group entitled "Hey, Facebook, breastfeeding is not obscene!" has attracted nearly 85,000 members as of Tuesday and a handful of activists held a rally outside its California headquarters over the weekend.

The organizers of the page, which is hosting a lively debate, receiving more than 10,000 comments, said they launched their "Official Petition to Facebook" after Facebook pulled profile pictures showing women nursing their babies. [source: Philippine Daily Inquirer]

Okay now, what the eff is wrong with breastfeeding photos? Nurses are working hard to encourage moms to breastfeed their newborns for pete’s sake. And it’s normal for moms to want to share that experience to their friends online.

The Facebook breastfeeding group staged a virtual protest online, called the Mothers International Lactation Campaign, which attracted more than 11,000 followers.

Real-life mothers also held a "nurse-in" outside Facebook's Palo Alto, California, headquarters the same day, the Palo Alto Daily News reported.

The local newspaper said a handful of activists attended the protest, signing songs, displaying signs and breastfeeding their children outside Facebook headquarters. [source: Philippine Daily Inquirer]

Now that is cool! I'm quite happy to know how actively they protested against this issue. I’m not a mother, but I’m a nurse. It’s a wonderful experience for moms, so let them be.
