How to delete a video link from a category/Home Screen. Switch into edit mode. Select the hamburger menu, then select ‘Edit current category’, select the video you want to delete and select the delete button.

I’m nearly there with the new PDF generator I’ve been working on for the last month. Building this feature has kept me inside on some sunny days, it’s been so much fun to do. Initially the PDF generator is a single fixed format but I’ve built it to expand potentially to allow generating different output templates and potentially entire photobooks suitable for printing at vendors such as Mixam.com. Right now the first page of the PDF is taken from the customised page of a category, then the subsequent pages are for every image in the included galleries of a category, finally there is a contact details page at the end (not shown here) where contact info is overlaid on the final image. Here’s a sneak peek at some output in Preview on the Mac. Today I’m creating the UI in Foliobook 4 to allow this to be previewed inside the app. Foliobook 4 is going to be a marketing hub for creatives to show and disseminate work on the iPad, in particular the iPad Pro so hopefully it can provide another way to help its users make more money. Like me most creative workers are probably earning zero at the moment, I was somewhat prepared for it as I’d planned to work on Foliobook 4 for a year using up my savings but I’d planned to be back bringing in money by now and lockdown has killed that. All new code I’m developing is formatted for iPhone use as I hope an iPhone version will eventually follow once I have all the key elements of the app rewritten so they are fit for another 10 years of use. That I hope will be complete by the release of iOS 14 in September, but there’s a lot to do instead of sunbathing in the meantime.

Foliobook includes a quick way to upgrade to the new Freemium version of Foliobook. Current users of Foliobook will get most of the cost of Foliobook discounted if they subscribe to the new subscription version before September 2020. Current users of Foliobook get a 3 day free trial to try out the new version and to copy their existing portfolio over to the new app. After that free trial the app permits basic non-professional use, but any existing portfolio can be viewed in read only mode without needing to subscribe preserving any existing work people have in the app.

Foliobook 3.9.2 released

Today we released Foliobook 3.9.2 which fixes two issues with the previous version.

Firstly, the most important of the fixes, is that we have removed an issue that was causing very slow opening of galleries.

Secondly, some changes we omitted from the previous release maintaining the Dropbox file picker have been added into this version, this is a software maintenance update adding alphabetic sorting to the Dropbox folder and file display which had lost this capability due to changes in how Dropbox worked. We’ve now updated this to keep Foliobook in step with the Dropbox service.

Fixing a hole ... large gallery slowness

I’m fixing a bug that is causing large galleries to load very slowly when tapping on the button. I should have this fixed in an update that will come out in the next few days (along with another minor omission from the last update). So for the moment if you are affected and need this solved before the update is out, reducing the number of images in large galleries can help.
