One Afternoon at Jollibee

Jollibee Palabok

After a few days of not eating decently when my father was hospitalized, I have decided to treat myself for an afternoon merienda (actually late lunch) at Jollibee near SPMC. I went to that hospital everyday to ask free medicines for my father and my sister thought that I deserve some treat. It is because of that effort, we were able to save a lot from my father's medicine expense.

My afternoon was really complete, my tiredness gone and my soul happy after eating palabok and french fries from Jollibee. It may sound crazy but it's true. :-)

Rice, Mashed Potatao, Mixed Carrots and Sweet Corn = Perfect Meal

I had the chance to enjoy this hearty meal from Red Ribbon due to my friend's insistence when we shared lunch a few weeks ago. It was actually a late afternoon lunch since we both need to finish some errands prior to our meet up. It was just a quick lunch date at Red Ribbon - Sales (Chimes) because this good friend of mine needs to hurry back to work.

Although short with time, the lunch date was very heartwarming and satisfying especially with Salisbury Steak served on our table. You can order this meal with a slice of Cookies and Cream with Oreo Cake and a glass of soda or you can do away with both and just simply enjoy this perfect meal.

Fresh Buko

During our tripping in Samal Island few Saturdays ago, we were given a chance to see some of the interesting sites in the Island for free. We also had the chance to enjoy the free lunch prepared by the sponsor but before that, we were given this fresh buko juice as another welcome drink in Talicud Island where we had our lunch.

We were very delighted because the fresh buko given to us is just perfect for the weather and also as a thirst quencher. Aside from sipping our fresh buko juice, we were also served with buko salad which I failed to capture on cam due to my excitement to eat. LOL.

Just like with most of my food escapades, my dear friend Exper is always by my side in my most gluttonous time.Lol! When I am tired and stressed out, one of the first best thing I can think of is EAT! So one afternoon, Exper and I decided to eat lunch together at Greenwich - Ilustre.

After the hearty meal, we can hardly think of any thing that stresses us out because we are focused on our bulging tummies.Hehehe... What a happy way to remove stress especially when shared with one of your best buddies.

They said that life begins at 40... I may not fully understand the full meaning of it but I believe that it is a "milestone" in everyone's life. So to celebrate Bren's milestone, we (myself, Tommy and my family) prepared a simple dinner for Bren last Tuesday.

It's okay chu, it is all part of life. I will always love you the same even if you are 39,40,50.... actually until forever. Cheers! Happy 40th birthday Tachu! May the Lord God bless you always.

CDO Vacation: My First Dinner Invitation

Days before our Yellow Cab lunch treat, we were invited by my good friend Lucille to have a dinner at their house. We were like inseparable because for the whole time that we were in Cagayan de Oro, Lucille is the one keeping me company and treating me like a visitor all the time.

An invitation for me is as good as inviting the whole household so together with my sister, brother in-law, Yoshi, Bella , Tita Jing and my sister's house help Sheila, we went to Lucille and Marlon's place to join them for dinner the first Saturday that we were there.

Aside from the delightful dinner that they prepared for us, the very important thing about that night is that we get to bond and catch up with each other. After all the eating, Lucille still served us with her famous Tapioca ( it's a dessert made up of milk,cream, fresh fruits and gulaman... only popular in Cagayan de Oro). The bonding as always didn't just stop after the dinner because Marlon and Lucille even volunteered to take us home using their family car. See how pampered we are? LOL!

Thank you very much Bing, Marlon, Ate Mika and Ate Nonon for all your time and for sharing all your blessings to us. It is such a wonderful experience spending time with your family. A million thanks.Cheers!

CDO Vacation: Lunch At Yellow Cab Pizza

We were invited by Tita Cindy ( my sister's SIL) to a lunch one afternoon at Yellow Cab Pizza, SM City Branch during our Cagayan de Oro sojourn. Since SM City is just a 5-minute jeepney ride from my sister's place so off we go!

If you have read about my Xavier Days post in my other blog, this is the siomai that I've been telling you about. I consider every opportunity to eat Siomai from Ludy's as one my luckiest and happiest moments during our Cagayan de Oro vacation. Yeah, unbelievably true!

Ludy's Siomai has this distinct taste that could not be found in any other siomai. I am a certified Siomaholic or Siomai Addict, whatever you call a person who couldn't resist eating any kind of siomai anytime, anywhere. I just love siomai... what can I do? Sliced Grilled Pork Liempo with Fresh Cucumber

If there is one thing our family loves doing it's nonetheless but eat. Since Mama and Papa are in-charge of the kitchen they were the ones who decide and prepare what would be the food for the particular meal.

Papa prepared Grilled Pork Liempo for dinner the other night. It was very delicious because he marinated it with special sauce for an hour. It was even made healthy and appetizing with fresh cucumber.

Pancit Miki Guisado

Cooking is a chore always assigned to my mom and dad at home. Although I graduated with a background in food but I am not really into cooking. My contribution is to taste and "evaluate" their finished products and give comments afterwards. And one of my mom's best recipe is the Pancit Miki Guisado. This recipe is mainly made of pork and pancit miki but you can choose to enhance the taste by adding shrimp and of course more vegetables.

Here is mom's Pancit Miki Guisado Recipe:

1/2 K miki (noodles)
1/4 pork perna / adobo cut ( sliced into small parts)
1/4 K shrimp (peeled off)
2 standard sized carrots (sliced )
1 cabbage (sliced)
2 tbsp. sliced onion leaves
1 red bellpepper (sliced)
3 tbsp. of minced garlic
1 onion, thinly sliced
6 tbsps. of cooking oil
2 cups hot water
Soy Sauce/ Oyster Sauce*
Seasonings (MSG/Magic Sarap)*
Ground Pepper*
Sugar*
Salt*

Procedure:

Wash fresh Miki in running water to remove its saltiness and oiliness.
Heat the cooking oil in the skillet.
Saute shrimp until it becomes pink. Set Aside.
Add the pork fat until the oil is thoroughly removed.
Add and saute garlic and onion together with sliced pork
Add shrimp, cabbage, carrots, salt, pepper, sugar and seasonings.
Mix together then set aside 3/4 parts.
Add hot water then add Miki.
Occasionally stir and taste. Adjust the taste by adding seasonings*.
When cooked, add the 3/4 parts of the ingredients (usually as topping).
Garnish with red bell pepper and onion leaves.
Serve hot. Enjoy!

*Depends on the desired taste.

It can also be eaten as is or paired with bread. This Pancit Miki Guisado recipe is always part of our weekly diet because the ingredients are readily available and cooking can be done easily.

My last night with Sue and Jiwon before they will go home to Korea are supposed to be spent eating a yummy lechon baboy. Sue wanted Jiwon to taste it but I was informed a little late. Although we tried looking for a restaurant in Davao who serves lechon biik but we could not find any. That is why we ended up eating at a Korean Restaurant.

I know Sue and Jiwon will be following me through my blogs so I purposely add Google Translator in all my blogs for them to easily translate my posts in their own language. Anyway, speaking of Lechon Baboy; prior to Sue and Jiwon's arrival in Davao I had an opportunity to ate lechon ( all by myself... just giving in to my craving) at a Lechon House along Chavez Street and also during my Uncle's birthday celebration.

My Korean friends Sue and Jiwon have taught me a lot about their culture. In their almost one week stay in the house, I have learned so many things about them which made me decide to study Korean language and explore more about their country. My interest in everything Korean is brought about by watching Korean TV Shows specifically what we call "Koreanovelas" and of course knowing my dearest Sue.

On their last night here in Davao, Sue and Jiwon decided to have dinner at Kimchi Restaurant because Grace (Sue's former English Tutor) wanted to eat Kimchi Chige. Sue actually introduced the food to her way back in 2006 when she was still doing her volunteer job in KOICA. I got excited because it was also my first time eating in a Korean restaurant.

The food was all new to me but I really enjoyed it especially the Kimchi Chige and Japche Bap. Only Sue ate most of the Bibim Guksu because its chili flavor is just too strong for the rest of us. The dining experience was really fun and very memorable for me because it was my first time eating all Korean food for dinner. The side dishes are unlimited and you can order as long as you want. The owner are so gracious for giving us free slices of pineapple for dessert.

It was such a super fun night and was made even unforgettable because of Sue and Jiwon's presence. It was my first time eating Korean food in a Korean restaurant and definitely not the last.

Pork Bulgogi... Sue's Recipe

Jiwon, Myself and Sue

My visiting Korean friends Sue and Jiwon wanted the family to have a taste of Korean food. And during the very first day of her stay here in Davao, Sue went to a Korean grocery store to buy some ingredients for her Pork Bulgogi recipe amidst the rain and the flood.

According to Jiwon and Sue, Bulgogi recipe can either be pork or beef. This is one of the very common and also a popular Korean food because it is easy to prepare. Together with Bren, Sue marinated the pork lean meat with Bulgogi Sauce, more onions, garlic and other ingredients.This can also be mixed with your favorite vegetables and can also be grilled or stir-fried.

Although we wanted to have this during our dinner the other night but since we are soaked wet in a heavy rain, Sue let Jiwon cooked it this morning. The taste is good and the meat is so tender. It has a perfect blend of sweetness and spiciness. The whole family really had a good day because we started our morning with this delectable Pork Bulgogi made out of love by Sue and Jiwon. Durian Season in Davao

Aside from the beautiful beaches and Philippine Eagles, Davao is also known for its Durian production. Durian Season usually starts from August especially during Kadayawan Festival until October. But I observed that Durian eaters and visitors during Kadayawan did not enjoy much on Durian this year because of its low production and high cost. Durian prices last Kadayawan ranges from 80-100 pesos per kilo.

And now that Durian is in Season, I personally enjoyed and took advantage of it. I buy Durian almost everyday especially when I go to the downtown area. Prices now ranges from 30-50 pesos and there are a lot of varieties to choose from. Some varieties are Puyat ( my super fave), Arancillo ( second fave), native, COB, chanee and a lot more.

Since Durian is in Season, you can practically find it anywhere in the City especially near the Public Markets. Most of us in the family eat Durian ( including Bella) but my father never tasted it because he couldn't stand the smell. So to all of you who wants to try Durian and but discouraged by its smell, this is how I described it... It smells like hell but tastes like heaven. Try one and you will be begging for more. Believe me because that was how I started eating and loving Durian.

Hubby and I both love Chinese food. We used to frequent most of the Chinese Restaurants here in the city when I was still working at the downtown area. But now that I already have Bella, we can only eat out or even go out on a date "when necessary." It means that being on a date is only a side trip to our intended purpose of going out.

Speaking of "necessary", hubby took a leave from work last week to finalize some transactions with the bank. Since the occasion calls for it, before heading home hubby and I ate the "necessary" lunch at the nearby branch of Mandarin Tea Garden.

I ordered Pork Asado Rice Toppings while hubby ordered his ever-favorite Beef Brisket Rice Toppings. We also added Pork Siomai to our order.

Pork Adobo with Pineapple Chunks

This is one of my mom's specialty recipe. I was out that day so I didn't have the chance to see how she cook her Pork Adobo with Pineapple Chunks. I think this is just a usual Pork Adobo recipe but with a twist of Pineapple chunks which made this dish very appetizing.

I seldom went out to shop or buy anything in the mall but when I do I usually make the most of it. Just the other day, I needed to go to the downtown area to pay for our internet bill and since I was already there, I took sometime to shop and buy some stuff for Bella and Macky. It was a hot afternoon so I stopped by at my fave fastfood chain to refresh.

I used to dislike coffee. But when I got pregnant, I have developed this craving for coffee. I heard some people saying that coffee is not good for pregnant women because it can be abortive if taken excessively. But my day wouldn't be complete without a cup of coffee and that's where my coffee story started.

Since the time that I have fixed my mind on working and earning online, my sleeping habits have changed. I went to bed at dawn most of the time. When I feel sleepy, I fight it with crackers and a cup of instant coffee. My husband was actually not supportive about my sleeping late and my coffee habit especially that I am still breastfeeding Bella.
