Thai Turmeric Chicken

Ingredients :

1/2 tsp white pepper
4 large cloves of garlic
3 tbsp fish sauce
2 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tbsp turmeric
2 tbsp brown sugar

Instructions:

1. Pound the garlic into a paste. (I couldn't do this step as my processer died on me.)
2. Mix all the marinate ingredients in a bowl.
3. Coat 2 large chicken legs with skin on with the marinate well and refrigerate for at least 1 to 2 hours. (i left mine for 6 hrs)
4. Bake in pre heated oven at 200 degree for 40 mins. Turn the chicken in between to get it cooked evenly. (Alternatively you can grill it)
5. Remove from oven when it is done and serve!
Note: original recipe calls for coriander seeds and cilantro stems which i didn't have so i skipped that.

Recipe for Coca-Cola Chicken Wings

Ingredients

1/2kg chicken wings
2 tablespoon dark soya sauce ( for marinate )
500ml coca-cola
2 tablespoon dark soya sauce ( for cooking )
Cooking oil ( agar agar enough to fried the wings )

Method
Marinate the wings with 2 tablespoon soya sauce for few hours ( I marinate overnite to make it more fragrance )
Fried the wings with cooking oil for about 5 minutes
Once ready take out some of the oil n put aside the add in coca-cola and add in the 2 tablespoon dark soya sauce to cook it till the coke become thick n sticky then serve.

Baked Chicken Sausage Pie for Family using Frozen Prata

(Enough for 6 pies – used 4 inch aluminium round cup)

Ingredients:

1 Carrot – Diced and boil with water till soft (do not throw the water)

6 Chicken sausages – cut into small pieces (or any meat of your choice)

1 table spoon butter

4 table spoons of Campbell chicken cream soup

A pinch pepper

Some Parsley flakes

3 hard boiled eggs – cut into half

12 pcs Frozen prata (must be slightly defrost)

1 egg yolk with water for egg wash (ratio 1:1)

1) Stir fried the sausages with butter in low heat for about 5 mins.

2) Add in boiled carrot with its water and 4 tbsp of Campbell chicken cream soup. Stir well and let it stew for about 2-3 mins

3) If it is too dry, can add some water . Add in pepper and parsley flakes when almost done. Set aside to cool down.

4) Press 1 prata in the aluminium cup , must be slightly defrost.

5) Add in the cooked ingredients and hard boil egg. Cover with 1 prata, fold and tuck in.

6) Brush with egg wash and bake in pre-heat oven 200 degree for 25-30 mins.

HELLO KITTY STEAM CAKE

Ingredients:

(makes 4-5 steam cakes)
150g Morinaga pancake mix
2 small eggs
30g sugar
45g milk
45g plain yoghurt
20g unsalted butter, melted
1 tsp baking powder
1 + 1/2 tbsp plain flour
1 tbsp cocoa powder
a little Wilton pink gel colour
a little Wilton yellow gel colour

Instructions :

1. Whisk egg and sugar in mixing bowl.
2. Add in yoghurt and milk till well blended.
3.Stir in melted butter.
4.Sift in pancake mix and baking powder and fold till well blended. Set aside 1 tbsp of the mixture and fill it in a pipping bag, you will need it for step 10 later.
5.Scoop 2 tbsp of batter from step 4, add 1 tbsp of dark cocoa powder,mix well. Spoon in pipping bag.
6.Scoop 1 tbsp of batter from step 4, add in 1/2 tbsp of flour. Add on a little yellow colouring using toothpick. Mix well. Spoon in pipping bag. Scoop 2 tbsp of batter from step 4, add on some pink colouring using toothpick, mix well. Spoon in pipping bag, set aside for step 10 later.
7.Fill cupcake cups with remaining mixture, fill till around 70% full. Tap cups lightly to remove air bubbles.
8.Pipe on Hello Kitty details, brown for eyes and whiskers and yellow for nose.
9.Steam cupcakes over preheated steamer on low heat for 12 minutes. When steaming, please cover pot lid with a cloth, to prevent water from dripping onto the cakes and spoiling the designs. Remember to use cloth to lay over cupcakes to prevent water dripping from steaming into batter, which will smudge the drawings.
10.Pipe out ears using white dough from step 4. Pipe out bow using pink dough from step 6. Pipe on a tray lined with baking paper, steam for around 3 minutes.
11.Make a cut with a knife on the cake, so that you can slot in the ears.

Crocodiles are one of the scariest creatures under water on ponds, rivers and some some sea. But did you ever think that this heart falling creatures can be serve as food on fiesta and other occasions?

In Davao, Philippines there is a farm that breed crocodiles and sell their meat on the market, some are chopped and some are serve as whole roasted crocodile. Here are some pictures that I have check on the internet.

See the pictures above are two roasted crocodiles in a yin-yang position and still scary to look at.

This picture looks yummy at the same time scary as its head looks like alive with a coconut on it.

Crocodile market is growing in the Philippines specially in Davao. Not only its meat but it whole package as its skin is also market international as for leather.

Note: This crocodiles are being breed and has an environmental permit.

The Genesis

There are a lot of myths and legends when it comes to the history of this drink. One of the most popular legends is associated with a goatherd named Kaldi. One day, when Kaldi was with his herd of goats he noticed a sudden change in their behavior. The goats turned spirited and that made him hunt for the probable reasons. That was the first time he saw a wild coffee shrub and it dawned on him that his goats had probably eaten some cherries off it. Curious, it led him to have a taste of the wild cherries himself. Upon feeling energized, he spread the story in his village. From the local monastery, the tale spread among the monks and even the locals.

The monks found it very useful as it helped them to stay awake for their ceremonies that went on throughout the night. The Arabs were considered to be the first to cultivate it. They even began the trade. The first plant is said to have come from the shores of the Red Sea. Coffee beans were actually considered to be a food in the olden days. The cherries were minced together and then mixed with the rest of the food. It was only in the 11th century that these beans were developed into a hot drink.

The Venetian merchants imported it to Europe and by the 17th century, it had made its way not only to Europe, but was gaining popularity across the continent. Initially condemned due to religious reasons, one saw major controversies erupt around this dark beverage. Despite the facts that surrounded it, the mid 17th century saw a number of coffee houses cropping up all over the town. A lot of people gathered here to discuss business and to gossip in general.

The Arabs were very possessive about the growing popularity of this beverage and its spread around the world. The beans were dispatched from Yemen and were kept as a highly guarded secret. It was later thought, that it was either the Dutch or a group of Pilgrims who finally tried to smuggle the plants to India. After a few attempts, it finally grew it's roots in this country. The cultivation then expanded to the islands of Java and Sumatra.

The Dutch brought it to France in 1715. Louis XIV of France was presented with a plant and it was then planted in the Royal Botanical Garden. Also known as the Noble Tree, it had the French really hooked on to this beverage and the crops really flourished with the plantation of the Noble Tree.

This tree saw itself have roots in various other parts of the world. Francisco de Mello Palheta is known to have brought it into Brazil. He was sent to obtain the beans from the French Guinea. The French were known to guard this fiercely and Francisco de Mello Palheta would have been unsuccessful, if he did not have a very appealing personality. This resulted in the Governor's wife presenting him with a huge bouquet of flowers. Later he discovered the seeds buried deep inside it.

The history of this beverage has seen so many travelers, pilgrims, and traders go on long voyages carrying these precious seeds all over the world. New plantations meant more business and slowly its export turned into a very profitable industry.

Many innovations that went into the making of this beverage, have seen it grow over time. So the next time you sip your perfectly blended cup of this brew, I hope this captivating past would linger on in your minds.

Who Invented Coca-Cola and in What Year?

It was Dr. John Stith Pemberton, a local pharmacist of Atlanta who invented the Coca-Cola. He made the first syrup for the drink in a three legged brass kettle in his backyard. He carried a jug of it to the Jacob's pharmacy, down the street. Here the drink was sampled and declared of 'excellent' taste. The drink was first sold to public at the same drugstore at a soda fountain on May 8, 1886. About nine servings of the drink were sold daily at the rate of 5 cents for each serving.

History of Coca-Cola

It isn't that one fine day, John S. Pemberton came out with formula for the drink. In fact the pharmacist was obsessed about the idea of finding the ultimate medicine and an excellent drink all rolled into one. During those times reports about the health benefits of the coca plant had gripped the world. It was known to have stimulant, aphrodisiac and digestive properties. With so many uses, coca was naturally the plant that Pemberton had been looking for. Angelo Mariani, a Corsican had already made a coca wine, called Vin Mariani using coca leaves. This drink was a huge success in Europe. Many celebrities, including Thomas Edison, Queen Victoria and even three Popes are believed to have been proponents of the drink. Encouraged by the success of the Vin Mariani, Pemberton launched his own brand - Pemberton's French Wine Coca which he advertised as the 'intellectual beverage'. In addition to coca leaves extract, Dr. Pemberton also used kola nuts in this drink. However, with the rise of the 'temperance movement' in the US, Pemberton soon realized that it would not be possible for him to sell a drink that was based on alcohol. Hence he started working on the formula of a temperance drink that would have extract of coca leaves and kola nuts but would not have alcohol. Finally in 1886 he landed on the formula of Coca-Cola syrup, the taste of which was acknowledged at Jacob's pharmacy.

It was Frank Robinson, the book keeper of Dr. Pemberton who coined the brand name. Do the ingredients of the drink give you any clue as to why is it called Coca-Cola? Robinson retained the names of the two ingredients of the drink coca leaves and kola nuts, to name it Coca-Cola. The only change that he made was that he replaced the 'K' of kola with a 'C'. Frank Robinson further convinced Pemberton of the virtues of advertising. Robinson is known to have good penmanship. He used his talent to design the famous logo of Coca-Cola. He thought that the two C's of the now famous logo would be appealing both as an alliteration as well as from the point of design.

However, the first year of the business ran at a loss. Despite its potential, the drink failed to sustain its place in the market. Some attribute its failure in part to the poor business skill of Pemberton, while others also cite his failing health. In 1887 he sold his rights to the formula of Coca-Cola to another Atlanta pharmacist and businessman, Asa Candler for $2,300. In 1892 Mr. Candler formed a Georgia corporation named 'The Coca-Cola Company'. It was due to Candler's aggressive marketing and good business acumen that by late 1890s Coca-Cola had established itself as one of the most popular fountain drinks of the US. The beginning of the 20th century witnessed the drink crossing the country's borders to be sold in Canada as well. Around the same time, the company started the practice of selling syrup of the drink to independent bottling companies, a model that is still followed by the soft drink industry of the US.

That was the story about Coca-Cola and its invention and how it spread from a fledgling business to being established as a multimillion company that produces a number of other Coca-Cola products. It is ironic that the inventor of Coca-Cola, Dr. Pemberton died within two years of inventing the drink and was not able to witness the success of his invention that is now synonymous with the essence of America!

PENIS DOG: Sausage-Stuffed Penis Pancakes

The neighborhood of Ximending is located in the Northeastern part of Taipei, and is the Taiwanese hub of fashion and Japanese culture. Often referred to as the “the Harajuku of Taipei,” there are many fascinating things to be seen just by walking up and down the streets, looking around at the numerous shops, and observing the customers that fill them.

eporters in Taipei recently stumbled across a food vendor that sells a corn dog-like concoction made by baking a sausage, coated in hotcake batter, in a special iron grill shaped like a penis.

The Taiwanese customers who visited the shop seemed to have no qualms about this startlingly detailed ‘penis dog.’ People casually nibbling on their penis while walking along the busy street, and it seemed to be particularly popular with children and high school-aged girls; the latter would purchase one penis to share with two or three friends.

One must admire the vendors who can boldly sell this in the middle of one of Taiwan’s busy shopping districts. Plus, at a mere $1.50, the price of this penis just can’t be beat.

In Japan there are a number of shrines that worship the penis as a deity, so perhaps this cock-cake represents the start of a new culture for Taiwan. Next time you’re in Taipei try discarding those dated conceptions of the penis as something obscene, and wrap your lips around one yourself! (written by Steven)

I used to see lots of different foods, drinks, vegetable dishes etc. and what I like the most is on how the people create and art and design in serving it. I have search different food carving, food design and food presentation throughout the internet and I want to share it with you :).

I named this picture as the alien cookie that portrait a character in Toy Story (if I am not mistaken ) .

“The Philippines Pride”

Filipinos are well known in different things like in sports, hospitality, entertainment and many more. And of course Filipinos are also known for their love and passion in cooking or in different variety of food dishes, food recipes etc. Of all the Filipino foods dishes the most popular and considered as the national dishes for Filipinos is the “ADOBO” when can be in different meat variety chicken, pork , turkey meat etc. Adobo is a mixture of vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, peppercorn and ginger. Most of the Filipina housewives know how to cook adobo because of the fact that is cheap and easy to cook. But for some who doesn’t know how to cook a perfect Adobo here is a step by step procedure that you can count on:

The Ingredients:

· 2 tablespoons thinly sliced fresh ginger root

1/2 tablespoon black peppercorns

· 1 (3 pound) whole chicken, cut into 8 pieces

· 1/2 cup soy sauce

· 3/4 cup distilled white vinegar

· 1 bulb garlic, peeled and crushed

The Procedure:

First thing to do is mix the chicken (or any kind of meat you want), soy sauce, ginger, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns in a casserole or a pot. Let it boil in a medium heat temperature. Once it boils, reduce temperature to a simmer level. Cover the casserole/pot and boil for 30 minutes, basting the chicken/any meat occasionally. After 30 minutes, remove the pot cover and cook until juice has condensed to half.

Then take away chicken (any meat) from the pot to a serving plate. Pull the liquid from the pot to remove all the food particles, and set aside. Serve chicken hot over steamed rice and drizzle with reserved sauce. Good for 6 serving.
