Sri Lembayung, Kiulap

Just a few days before examination in the previous semester, I had a chance to meet up Kang and Sheena (also known as DJ Madison from UBDFM) and had lunch together.

Due to that Kang was going to Kiulap to pick up some study materials thus we decided to just dine in that area. However, the three of us couldn't decide where to dine as we were eager to try out something new and honestly speaking, I think we have tried out almost all the eateries in this area. And then, suddenly I remembered there was a newly established Indonesian restaurant located in Kiulap thus I whatsapped them urgently and we all agreed to try it out.

This new Indonesian restaurant is named Sri Lembayung. It is situated on the ground floor in Seri Purnama Complex; the building behind HSBC Kiulap.

I guess most of you are aware that one of the most recognition Indonesian dishes is Ayam Penyet. However, Sri Lembayung is actually trying to introduce another significant Indonesian dishes to the locals which is Nasi Padang.

Some of you might be confused what is Nasi Padang and if you do have time, you might wanna read it up here. But in my own dictionary, I think it is similar to Nasi Campur in Brunei or Nasi Kandar in Malaysia. The concept of these three types of dishes are pretty much the same except for the different names given and as well as the different of cultural backgrounds have shaped it.

I would say if you wish to understand more of the Indonesia food culture then perhaps Nasi Padang at Sri Lembayung is a good start for you. The restaurant would prepare few varieties of Indonesian dishes for patrons to choose the dishes they want to try daily. And they even have set lunch menu available which is much cheaper when compared to ala carte. Not only Nasi Padang, Sri Lembayung also serves Sate but I have yet to try it as I thought it was too expensive.

It was rather a good dining experience for three of us and I love the bird cages! Haha I seriously don't know why I like it and even Sheena also went "AWW!" when she saw the bird cages haha!

In last November 2011, we welcomed a new family member and named it Cooper and obviously enough, the name is derived from the car brand Mini Cooper hehe

Since its arrival, it has really brought lotsa joy to the family and of course created lotsa funny epic moments haha! For example, Cooper loves his pink towel and toy ball a lot. He loves them so much that whoever snatches them away from him, he would go after to chase it back. He hates bathing so much that he would start playing hide and seek if he sees his dog shampoo bottle. And after bathing, he likes to roll on the grass which seriously made the effort of bathing him wasted =________=

Cooper has got the innocent looks just like the character "Puss In The Boots" in Shrek and this is why Hubby really dotes him a lot and always feed him with good food haha!

Babu's Kitchen (New branch at Gadong Central)

With most entrepreneurs choosing to establish their businesses in areas such as Gadong, Kiulap and now, Airport area now, I ever wondered which type of business industry would Gadong Central become.

But little did I know it is a new hot spot for our local food industry.

If you're local, you should already know that old Gadong is well known for the area where countless car garages are located. But other than that, it is also known as an area where many of our local signature kopitiams are located such as Jing Chew, Sing U Me, Tasty Corner and many more.

Thus, with the opening of new concept restaurants in Gadong Central, it is for sure that it would bring in some new elements to our local food scene.

So today, am gonna share some pictures of Babu's Kitchen which is located at the Gadong Central :)

Honestly, even before the establishment of Babu's Kitchen first branch in CBD area, my cousins and I have always been their loyal customers. It could also be said that we had spent part of our childhood walking hand in hand, blocks to blocks just to purchase some drinks to quench our thirst. At that time, it was still a home business which was located very close to where we stayed (just few steps away!). It was indeed a good ol' memories which we all shared!

Anyways, if you've never heard of Babu's Kitchen then you should give it a try very soon!

My family are actually fans of Babu's Kitchen but due to the location of its first branch (in CBD area), chances of us dining there is very slim as you know how hard it could be to get a good parking spot in bandar area. But now with the opening of their new branch in Gadong Central, it has really eased the parking problems and I can just drop by any time, any day I want!

All I can say is I really like its new branch; it is soooo spacious and even has 2 VIP rooms! I personally think that it is really a very good spot especially for tea session with friends.

Again, if you're new to Babu's Kitchen then perhaps you wanna try out these dishes of theirs which I personally think are must try!

Birthday brunch at Atrium Cafe, The Empire Hotel

Hey people! How's new year been treating you so far?

This is a long awaited post which I was supposed to post it last year but I didn't get to hehe

My mom celebrated her 50th birthday last month (or last year :P) and we had family brunch at Atrium Cafe. It wasn't my first time having buffet at Atrium Cafe thus there wasn't anything special to mention. But if I really have to then it would be their pasta station which patrons could choose the type of pasta they would like to have and type of sauce based on their preference. The chef would cook on the spot for you and serve to you while it's still hot. What I love most was actually the chocolate fondue! :D

Total amount of the bill was almost $80 for 5 adults and Hubby was eligible to free meal due to his Empire Select membership.

BYE 2011. HELLO 2012.

It's just like a blink of eye and 2011 is going soon, like very soon.

It has been a wonderful year with so much stuffs happened be it good or bad but I still managed to learn a lot.

It is said to be a very fruitful year and also a wonderful year as I really met a lot of different people who were willing to share their stories with me and taught me lots of stuffs that we are unable to learn from education institutes. That's what we called 'Life Experience'.

"You will never understand it until you live through it"

Here is a recap on what has happened overall in my 2011 ^^

1. My parents finally received confirmation letter from Govt. regarding the perumahan housing application after the long wait of 17 years.

2. I am already in my last year of university life and another few months to go till I get my "toilet paper". Jia you!

3. Had work attachment at KPMO and worked with fun people :D

4. Met too many new people during the attachment which was really an eye opener when people were willing to share their thoughts and experience to me. It was indeed a life lesson.

5. Revisited Kuala Lumpur City after 2 years.

6. Bought the most expensive dress ever in my life.

7. Also bought my first Levi's jeans. (Hubby said le me sakai =.=)

8. Got my customized Longchamp bag all the way from UK and it's a gift from Hubby :)

9. Had a chance to taste macarons from Pierre Herme.

10. Significant decrease in keeping this blog updated due to millions of errands waiting for me to settle. It is just to sad too see this blog being so deadly but I am bad in time management as well.

11. New family member in da house! And I am referring to Hubby's pet dog, Cooper. Everyone is loving him to bits!

Alright, I think these sum up for my wonderful 2011. Actually there is more but I am just too lazy to list down :P

Anyways, Good Bye 2011! You've treated me well and Hello 2012! Hope you're really not the 'end' haha!

Happy 26th Birthday Hubby!

Few days ago we had dinner together with SKY and Hwa at Capers Restaurant.

It was supposed to be just a simple Christmas dinner but we ended up giving Hubby a birthday surprise which it turned out really well (even though it was pretty last minute haha!).

In the past, perfume was considered the top choice when it comes to buying gift for Hubby. The reason being that the items on his wish list are commonly known as something which are pretty unacceptable as a gift due to the price tags (he surely knows how to pamper himself, lol!). To save the trouble, we normally just get him perfume since he likes to collect it. However, this year was slightly different.

Ever since the opening of Toys R Us outlet, he has been telling us how much he loved to play Lego when he was still a young kid and the story just goes on and on. Thus we, the 3 musketeers all came to a same decision of getting him Lego for his 26th birthday haha!

It was pretty tough at first cause knowing that Hubby LOVE the animated movie Cars to bits, I tried to find the Cars Lego set in local stores but couldn't find it at all. And when I decided to bid it off eBay, sadly to say, I lost bid to another bidder. Finally one day while I was doing window shopping in Toys R Us, I found the same Cars Lego set which I bid and the price was much cheaper than what eBay offered.

I have confidence that this has gotta to be his favourite birthday gift from us all these years hahaha!

And also, Hubby has a habit of pampering himself with the goodies that he has listed in his wishlist. Without any exception, this year he has bought himself a new desktop which he customized the specs himself. Guess it's really his fruitful year!

Anyway, today is the official day that he is turning 26 and I really wish you have a wonderful birthday!!!

Jerudong Polo Club Hi Tea Buffet

During one of the Sundays in early November this year, my family and I was invited to attend my nephew's 10 years old birthday party.

It was hosted at Jerudong Polo Club and the reason why they chose there was because my nephew (a.k.a the birthday boy) wanted to swim. My cousin (a.k.a birthday boy's mom) was actually having hard time making decision between Riverview Poolside and Jerudong Polo Club but she still ended up choosing the latter one as she found out it has pool for children while the other one doesn't have.

It was my first dining experience in Jerudong Polo Club. Over the years, I've heard a lot of good reviews from people saying that they serve really good sungkai buffet but I always didn't have a chance to try it out. This time I was there for their hi tea buffet. There wide varieties of food available for the hi tea buffet and frankly speaking, I didn't even manage to try out all the food.

Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience there and it is a very good choice for family to spend their quality weekends there!

Mochi Frozen Yogurt, The Airport Mall

With the recent opening of few dessert houses, I could sense that gelato days are over and it seems like froyo (frozen yogurt) is the next 'in' thing in town.

The latest addition to this is Mochi Frozen Yogurt located on the ground floor of newly established Airport Mall (next to Times Square). It is very easy to spot as it is situated near to the main entrance.

I personally think that it has got really good brand packaging and this can be easily tell from the design of the logo. If you look carefully, the 'o' & 'c' actually resembles a bunny and by choosing green as the main color is a very wise choice as it gives a refreshing feel and very attention catchy! What's more with the contemporary interior design in the dessert house, it really can make every customers feel "over the moon"!

There are two sizes available which are solo and sumo and obviously enough, solo means regular size while sumo means large. I decided to go for the sumo size which came with 2 choices of toppings. As for the ice cream flavors, there are two types available which are original and blue berries and since the staff told me that I could have combination of both so I ended up with mixed flavor. For toppings, the staff recommended us to choose honeydew mochi and mini nata balls and so we took her advice. The price for sumo with 2 toppings is $5.

Verdict:

As the ice cream is made of yogurt so it's common that the ice cream tastes sour and in fact, Hubby and I prefer this as it didn't have the 'after taste' like usual ice cream. What we mean here is that most of the times after eating ice cream, the sweet taste of the ice cream would linger for quite some time and there is always high chance of us feeling thirsty right after eating ice cream. However, after finishing the Mochi Frozen Yogurt, we didn't experienced this and in fact, we had the urge to have second round. So I guess this is shows the difference between the usual ice cream that we always eat and froyo. However, the toppings weren't as good as we thought. The honeydew mochi's texture actually tasted like marshmallows more and the IQ balls was tasteless and hard. And I think the portion of the froyo was little than what I expected.

Currently, Mochi Frozen Yogurt is having soft opening promotion with 15% discount on all yogurt items until 31st December 2011. Do give it a try ;)

Hey guys!

Just wanna inform everyone that in case you're unaware, Chempaka Restaurant had already closed its door for a month break starting from 25th November 2011 (Friday) and business will resume on 26th December 2011 (Monday).

Although dine in is not available but if you guys would like to buy rice dumplings, it's available on 28th & 29th November 2011. You may pre-order it if you're interested.

It was fortunate that Hubby and I was able to visit it on Thursday (the eve of its closure day)

This steamed egg dish maybe a simple dish to most people but it is one of the must try dishes in Chempaka Restaurant!

It really had been awhile since we last did a video assignment together. For this course, we were actually given options; either to write a 10 pages report or to do a video related to the topic.

After much considerations, we finally decided that this could really be the very last chance having all of us together to do a video. With this opportunity, we decided to make another animation video. Although it may not seem pro but this is at least the best of all videos that we had made throughout these 4 years.

KL Trip 2011: Day 2

On our day 2 in KL, we decided to spend the whole day in Pavilion as it's one of our favourite shopping malls in KL.

There was this area in Pavilion called Tokyo street (I think) and obviously, there were lotsa restaurants or stores selling Japanese related food, snacks and many other products.

For a few times during our stay in KL, we were debating whether to try out this or not hehe

Guess what? This is actually a lomography store with lotsa different types of lomo cameras available for sale. It's named "The Click Shop". We were so so so tempted to get the Fuji Instax but ended up didn't cause we still find it pricey. Left the shop empty handed hehe

Before our trip to KL, I actually read a post by KampungBoyCityGirl reviewing this stall named Ochado so I thought I should give it a try too.

We ordered one of its top ranked beverage named Roasted Tea with Azuki and 50% sweetness. It was RM5.90.

Few things that I noticed and I like about most bubble tea stalls in KL are that their straws are all wrapped which I strongly suggest all the beverage stalls in our country should do this too as this would lessen the risk of these straws getting contaminated. Another thing is that after taking order, the staff would print out the order on sticker and stick on the empty cup as this would reduce the chances of wrong order. I knew many places had already adopted this but so far not in Brunei. And with my recent experience in Each-a-cup, thought I should highlight it here.

I walked in with pocketful of ka-ching and I walked out this store like a pauper. Spent too much here! I still feel guilty even until now!

My 24th Birthday!

As the title says, I'm officially 24 years old now and my, time really flies!
When I was 14 I wished I could enter the adulthood as soon as possible so that I could do anything I want, earn my own first bucket of 'gold' to buy lotsa stuffs which my parents didn't allowed me to.

It was just like a blink of eye and I am really in the adulthood now but unfortunately, it wasn't what I wished it could be when I was in my teen age.

The fact that I am still a student often got me feeling I am lagging behind my other friends who have already started working for few years and living a better standard of living on their own. Some of these people are even married already and had started their own family!
With a few plans to execute in the upcoming year, I can already predict how my future would be and although it is still a question mark but I believe I can make it all come true.

I feel blessed to have a bunch of good friends and of course my family to celebrate my birthday with me this year. You guys rock!

As usual, my birthday wish this year also include hoping that everyone in this world would be living happily and also hoping for less disaster and war in this world.

This year my birthday fell on Wednesday. It was supposed to be a very busy week for both Hubby and I thus I didn't put high expectations on celebrating my birthday this year. To avoid disappointment, Hubby didn't want to give me any promise but instead, he suggested that we should have a pre-birthday celebration during the weekend at Miri. Both of us had restless week and with so much things scheduled ahead waiting for us to complete, I immediately agreed to Hubby suggestion as we both needed a break so badly.

Before we going down to Miri, we stopped by Red Leaf Restaurant located at Seri for quick breakfast. It was quite fun as we were eavesdropping the conversation between a group of uncles sitting next to our table. They were actually discussing either to go down to Kuala Lurah, Labuan or Trusan just to eat durians; lol!

We put up a night at the new Imperial Hotel near Pelita area and I must say we didn't like that hotel as much as our previous stay with Imperial Palace Hotel. Reason being that this hotel is just too near to night entertainment area. With the limited parking space in the hotel basement and so many clubbing kaki, we did not get ourselves a good parking spot in the basement. Instead, we had to park our car at the back alley of the hotel. Service was good enough but room wasn't as nice as Imperial Palace Hotel.

After checking in, we roamed the city to settle some personal stuffs then dropped by Boulevard for shopping. I was surprised to find out that Old Town has just opened a new branch there and my, the prices was steeper than other branches that I've been to in other places. However, despite the higher price, we still got ourselves a cup of Hazelnut White Coffee which cost $5.20 after tax.

After our shopping session at Boulevard, we headed to Good Taste Restaurant for its popular Bak Ku Teh. I've heard just too many reviews on their bak ku teh and it seemed like a must visit restaurant in Miri thus we decided to give it a try during this visit. Honestly speaking, we didn't like it much. The bak kut teh was pretty aromatic but the soup wasn't thick enough; still lacked of something. It cost RM10.50 for the smaller one which was good enough for 1 pax and we also ordered other food like Mushroom Chicken Feet (RM9). The total for this meal cost RM26.80 including drinks, rice and cakoi.

As for our dinner, we decided to have seafood and ended up in Yee Ha Hai Seafood Restaurant (which in Cantonese means Fish, Prawn, Crab) at waterfront area. Again, it was my first visit to this restaurant and because there were only two of us so we didn't ordered much. We ordered Stir fried Biding with sambal belacan, butter egg prawns and Grilled fish. Overall, it was just average =/

We woke up late in the next morning and missed the complimentary hotel buffet. With our hungry tummies, we decided to try out the Pelita Cafe located right opposite to 2020 Cafe. Every time go Miri also eat breakfast at 2020; it's really time for a change already. But sad to say, the dim sum choices and quality available in Pelita Cafe wasn't as good as 2020 Cafe.

After breakfast, we went back to hotel to check out and headed straight to Bintang Plaza plainly just to tapao drinks and snacks back home.

Lamb Char Siew @ Dim Sum Restaurant

Last Sunday night, Hubby and I had sudden crave on roasted duck and the first restaurant that came to our mind was Dim Sum Restaurant's roasted duck. Without thinking much, we rushed to the restaurant immediately. We rounded at least three times hoping to find a parking and that really showed how much we crave for their food haha!

Anyway, what surprised me during this visit to Dim Sum was their introduction on lamb char siew! It was really new to me and being lamb lover, of course I wouldn't let go of the opportunity to give it a try thus I ordered a plate of the lamb char siew rice which cost $4.50 each.

Ok, lamb char siew might be something very new to me but knowing that the restaurant is claiming that they are the World's first and only place that serves lamb char siew.. which this really is too exaggerating lah! Anyhow, I was convinced by the quality and taste of the lamb char siew! Although the portion was served less than I expected but the taste of the lamb char siew was delicious; the seasoning had made the char siew sauce tasted strong but it did not completely covered the taste of lamb. Ah, as usual I am bad in describing but I strongly recommend you guys to give it a try then you'll understand what I am trying to say here haha!

Savy's Brasserie, Bandar

Finally, I have extra time to sit down and do a proper update on this blog! Life has been so hectic and packed with all sorts of activities. I've been juggling everyday on different matters be it personal life, studies, relationship, work and etc. Although it might sound bad due to some sacrifices that I have to make (such as not having time to blog as often as before) but I can't deny the fact that I am actually growing and learning daily from all these stuffs happening around me. A big thank to all those people who have helped me and are still trying hard to help me grow and be independent. I have surely learnt and experienced a lot :)

To revive this blog, I am sharing series of photos which I have taken during my sungkai experience in Savy's Brasserie. Like I mentioned in the previous post, although I know it's really late to share this but I seriously don't want my pictures to be hidden in one of the many folders in my hard disk thus I am still sharing this :P

I was pretty surprised at that time when I heard that Savy's was having sungkai buffet as I knew it has always been a fine dining place. And of course without thinking much, I bugged Hubby to bring me there since I had never visited Savy's before. The impression on Savy's which people around me gave me was that it's very expensive to dine there thus I was not giving any high hope on the quality of Savy's at that time. However after my first and solely dining experience there, I must say it was really worth it.

Frankly speaking, there were not many choices available but each dish had got its food quality and standard there. Just the beef ribs and lamb dish had already awed us so much that we kept refilling our dishes for those two. Other dishes served include fried rice (which I didn't find it tasted good), Spaghetti carbonara, Potato wedges, Roasted chicken stuffed with risotto, (a fish dish which I wasn't sure of what it's called) and soup. There was another station which few varieties of appetizers and desserts were placed there.

As you all know that one of the few things which many patrons always afraid of when having buffet is actually insufficient of food. In this case, Savy's did very well as they always refill the food once the tray was about to go empty unlike some restaurants which do not do this.

Overall, it was a pretty good experience and I do hope that I can make a return visit again to try out their food on the ala carte menu ^^

KL Trip 2011: Day 1

During the period between 19th Aug 2011 to 23rd Aug 2011, I had a short trip to KL with Hubby. This trip was purely for leisure purpose as it had been about 2.5 years since our last visit to KL in year 2008 thus we decided to make a return visit. It was actually a last minute decision therefore our tickets cost us a bomb; we were traveling with the budget airline, Air Asia so this is pretty ironic and somehow didn't make any sense at all =_______=

Being the owners of a food blog, we both decided to make this a foodie trip rather than just a shopping trip. In other words, we are just 'tam chiak' lar! But I do know that there are certain people who would rather have only a meal per day when traveling to abroad for a shopping trip. It seems like to them shopping is more important than eating. Salute!

I would say that compared to my previous visit to KL, I heart this trip more as I managed to visit few places that I've always been wanted to go but didn't get to years back. And I also found some new interesting facts as well as experience during our stay in this neighbouring city. One of it would be us helping our taxi driver to find the route to the place that we wanted to visit by using Hubby's iPhone GPS; kudos to the modern technology!!!

Anyways, there are just too much interesting stuffs that I wanna share with you guys so I will divide it into few entries in accordance to my first day in KL till the last. So I am gonna start it off by sharing my day 1 in KL in this entry; enjoy reading!

Our flight was in the morning and to my surprise, there were just so many people flying together with us. Sadly to say, Hubby and I were unable to sit next to each other on the flight as it was a full flight so we weren't allowed to choose our seats. But it wasn't so bad at all as I finally was able to kick that big man away from me; just kidding! :P

We reached KL LCCT Airport at almost lunch time and we decided to take Skybus service to our hotel which was located at Bukit Bintang. In order to take Skybus service, we bought our bus ticket at the Skybus counter which was located inside the arrival hall after we had stamped our passports. Priced at only RM9 per ticket, it was really cheap! After leaving the arrival hall, we followed the signages and eventually found the bus stop at LCCT Airport and hopped on our bus. One important note is that this bus only brings passengers to KL Sentral which is about 45 minutes ride. Thus, after reaching KL Sentral we took a taxi to Bukit Bintang and the distance wasn't too far as it was only 15 minutes ride.

When the bus just reached KL Sentral, there were many people trying to convince us to sit their car to Bukit Bintang and one guy even told us if we get our taxi from the official taxi stand, it would cost us RM30. We found him untrustworthy so we just ignored him and found ourselves the official taxi stand at KL Sentral main door and bought the taxi coupon to Bukit Bintang which was actually much cheaper than we thought! Apalarrrrrrr that guy!

Finally reached our hotel! Initially I planned to stay at Hotel Capitol but after much research done, I stumbled upon Piccolo Hotel and made immediate decision to stay in this hotel. With its ideal location in Bukit Bintang, it has made shopping around in that area very convenient! Price was reasonable too.

As we both did not have any breakfast and after few hours of traveling, we decided to have some good food after checking our hotel by visiting the non-halal food court at Lot 10's basement. I have to say that I really heart KL's food court to the maxxxxxxx! During my previous visit, Food Republic already left me with extremely good impression but this Lot 10 Hutong food court really made me felt like I was in food paradise cause there were simply just too much choices of food to choose from!

What made Hutong food court unique and different from any other food court is that most of the stalls were hand picked by Tan Sri Francis Yeoh and have been in this industry for many years; like Song Kee Beef Noodles have more than 60 years of history! The main concept is to gather most of the well renowned KL street food under one roof so that people do not have to travel around in order to enjoy such delicious local delicacies and at the same time, visitors from other places are able to learn more regarding KL famous street food. Beside the food quality and choices; I am giving two thumbs up for the interior design as it really made me felt like I was sitting in a time machine and back to 40s.

We passed by Kong Tai which is a stall specialised in serving oyster omelet and decided to order a plate. It cost RM11.50 and after taxed, we paid RM12.20 for this. Honestly speaking, it wasn't as yummy as we thought. It was just average.

Geof highly recommended us to try out roasted food at Duck King which we did and was very very satisfied with it! There were different selections available and we wanted to try almost all of the roasted food thus we decided to go for BBQ 3 Combo which consisted of Roasted Duck, Char Siew and Roasted Pork. Those roasted pork tasted so much different from the ones I've had; the combination of its hot and crispy skin with juicy meat really made us felt like we were in heaven! It was just so delicious! This combo set cost RM28.80 before tax and RM30.55 after tax.

To quench our thirst, we bought a cup of soya bean and chrysanthemum tea from I Love Yoo! and it cost RM2.90 each before tax and Rm5.70 in total after tax.

After a round of satisfying meal, we decided to return to our hotel for a good rest so that we could explore the city later that night. Oh, not to forget Piccolo Hotel does have a massage center which provides fish spa service but I didn't manage to try it. Hope during my next trip I will finally be able to experience fish spa!

That night, we had a strong craving on wanting to try out Nandos so so so badly thus we went to few places to hunt for a Nandos branch in Bukit Bintang. Unsure why but iPhone GPS did not help much on helping us to locate Nandos. Perhaps Steve Jobs doesn't like Nandos :(

It was Friday night thus traffic jam every where in Bukit Bintang.

If I am not mistaken, this street is actually called Arab Street with lotsa halal restaurants available in this area and pictured are actually patrons having buffet for 'berbuka puasa'.

Massage parlors and budget hotels were easily found in this area too and do beware of the staffs in these massage parlors as they would try to ask you to enter their parlors. Some were pretty dodgy so be extra cautious.

Every night when I passed by this place I would see this guy wearing different color of shinny bling bling suit.

After so many turns and walking, we finally found Nandos!!! And it's actually just inside Sungei Wang Plaza =_______= Later then we found out Pavillion also has one; even more =_________________________=

Being new to Nandos, we were unsure of what to order so we just simply ordered a set of Chicken Kebab which came with potatoes salad and grilled vegetables and quarter chicken set which came with fries and coleslaw.

Ok, so here is the review. Before I got a chance to even try out Nandos, I've already heard rave reviews regarding how yummy it is but after trying it, I found it was just over rated. I personally think that no doubt the chicken is much more tender and the spices being used to marinate the chicken had managed to flavor the chicken and added fragrance to it. By adding the famous Nandos chili sauce, it made the chicken tasted even nicer. BUT, it was not up to the stage which is a 'No try guarantee will regret!' stage. Thus, no worries if you miss this out during your trip :D

Total damage for this meal was RM54.30 after tax.

We walked around Sungei Wang Plaza after our dinner and found a Subway outlet in that building which made Hubby went gaga over it. He was like, "EH! SUBWAY OUTLET OVER THERE!" Then he kept tempting me to buy it for our supper later. Actually he was the one who was craving for it but didn't wanna admit :P

As the time when we visited it was near to closing hour, staffs were actually cleaning things up already.

Nyonya - Sungkai Buffet

As you all know that Ramadhan month had passed and currently we are in the Raya festive mood so this post doesn't really provide as a guide to good food during the Ramadhan period. However, I still wanna share this with you guys since I had went there and taken pictures or else, these pictures could be gone to waste and hidden under layers of folders in my hard disks. In fact, there are two more reviews regarding sungkai buffet which I am going to share later.

It was my first time trying out Nyonya sungkai buffet even though they have been hosting this for few years already. The buffet cost $13.80 per head and I personally think that the buffet was pretty worth at that price. Most importantly, Nyonya's signature dish which is Butter milk chicken was also served as one of the dishes in the buffet menu. Unsure if you guys ever tried this, Nyonya's butter milk chicken is really finger lickin' good but I rarely have it cause it cost $6 per plate with rice and the portion was very little. Thus I was very surprised to see this dish served on the buffet line.

Overall, the food and service of Nyonya was pretty but I think I would like to point out is the quality of the fried noodles on that night. It tasted uncooked actually cos the texture was too hard. But nevertheless, we still enjoyed the night ;)

Kaizen Sushi, Waterfront BSB

I bet most of you are aware of this newly opened branch of Kaizen Sushi at bandar Waterfront. Before the signage of Kaizen Sushi was put up, I actually had a feeling that Kaizen Sushi was gonna open a new branch there. Unsure why but every time when I passed by that building, it just got me thinking that it's gonna be none other than Kaizen Sushi. A woman's 6th sense is always 'chun' one, don't play play~ haha!

Food and beverage industry has never been easier before and it's always in a very stiff and competitive environment in our country; unlike other places where you can see long queues in most restaurants and people beg to have seats in some well renowned restaurants. In this case, Kaizen has really done its best in giving a whole new dining experience. It pretty easy to spot lots of differences and unique values of this new branch apart from other restaurants in the country.

Upon arriving the place, we were welcomed by the Japanese Zen themed garden which made me felt even curious to find out how would the restaurant's interior design looks like and if the food quality meets our expectations. And honestly speaking, it was way more than what we expected. The restaurant was huge and spacious! I was really impressed on how the management tried to cater more customers with different types of seating. For example, there are sushi bar with high chairs where customers who prefer to enjoy their food while watching how the sushi chefs prepare the sushi could choose to sit there. Others include normal dining table and Japanese coffee table style (tatami) which the table is much lower and more authentic. To my surprise, Kaizen also served teppanyaki and customers could also choose to sit at the teppanyaki bar watching how the chefs preparing food for them but this is definitely not a good choice if you hate how the smoke stain on your hair and clothes. Not to forget, there are also private rooms available and if I am not mistaken, there are actually 3 rooms which one room big enough to cater 16 people or more.

The menu is kinda different from its main branch in many ways and even the price is much more expensive compared to other local Japanese restaurants. But even if it is so, I find it reasonable in a way that the management has already spent a lot on renovations to provide utmost comfy ambience in their restaurant and food quality was there too. We ordered some of its sushi to try out that night and also soft shelled crab, skewers, tempura ice cream and etc. Out of all these we had ordered, I really would love to point out the fact that their raw ingredients such as salmon was really fresh! All other items were delicious except for its tempura ice cream which was a big disappointment. We were expecting the outer layer of the tempura ice cream to be deep fried with bread crumbs but instead of this, it was deep fried with flour and then topped with chocolate syrup. This was completely different from what we thought it would be and as expected, it didn't taste good at all. However, this shouldn't be the reason that I should stop dining in Kaizen Sushi. In fact the overall experience was brand new and food quality was above average except for the tempura ice cream; otherwise I could have give it full score.

And for the next time I am dining there, I'm gonna try having meal at the tatami seating!

Rizqun Coffee House Sungkai Buffet

This year I've seriously lost the mood to enjoy sungkai buffet thus you can see how little the update is. But it's not that I have not tried any completely. In fact, I've tried like 3 so far and the first one was Rizqun's sungkai buffet.

It was a family gathering and I was obliged to attend although I knew beforehand that I wouldn't like the food. The reason why I said that is because the Rizqun is renowned for its local kampung delicacies buffet theme every year during Ramadhan month. And it happens that I am not a fan of such buffet theme. But nevertheless, I still enjoyed the food and it was really crowded! I would advise you to make earlier reservation rather than walk in to avoid disappointment especially when it's the pay day period now.

The buffet is $23 per pax for adult and $11.50 per child. If you're interested and would like to make reservation, you can contact the management at 2423000 ext. 7811.

Ok, I know I've been m.i.a for so long but now I'm back with filler post *paiseh ah!*

New semester has just started and I'm still not done with my report yet I'll be flying off to KL tomorrow morning.

Actually I was thinking of writing review on Rizqun and Nyonya's sungkai buffet before I leave for KL but I don't think time is allowing me to do that.

But rest assured, I'm sure this KL trip is gonna be a fruitful trip with lotsa foodie pictures.

Deli-Bites Cafe, Jubilee Plaza (Kianggeh)

I still remember vividly how my secondary classmates and I walked to Jubilee Hotel building just to have our lunch at Deli Bites during the old times. We were still poor students but really wanted to experience having lunch at such cafe rather than school canteen haha! I admit that we were quite naughty :P

And at that time Deli Bites was still located on the first floor in the building. Without having any idea what to order (I was still a nOOb in Western cuisine), my classmate Esther recommended me to try out their lasagna and I agreed even though it cost $8 which was a very big sum for a poor student like me (it is still a big sum to me even until now! haha!). After ordering, we four just waited waited waited and waited for the food to come and finally finished our meal 2 hrs later.

During the waiting period, we were so nervous as we had afternoon class after the 1.5hrs lunch break. We walked so fast from Jubilee back to school and when we finally reached the classroom, our teacher was interrogating us on why we were late and we just simply came up with one reason like we went back to my friend's place and her mom's car broke down so we had to make call, waiting for her dad to pick us up to send us back to school and etc. HAHA! This is definitely not a good thing to be learned but I gotta said that it was one of the sweet old memories I had during secondary times.

Ever since that experience, I had never visited Deli Bites again and I didn't even know it still existed until months ago I found out that it has moved down to the old Ahan Thai unit. This really surprised me and I wanted to make a return visit so much after so many years to revive my old memories haha!

Anyways, I then found out Deli Bites is currently having set lunch promotion during puasa period and I thought the promotion was pretty reasonable so I decided to bring along my mom, uncle, aunt and Amy there to give it a try.

The promotion is available from 10AM until 4PM so don't worry if you have a late lunch break like at 2PM, you are still able to enjoy this promotion. And another good thing is that there are many choices available when it comes to choosing main course. You can just simply order any one of the rice dishes out of the so many listed on the menu. Not only this, it also comes with a choice of cafe latte or a pot of tea and a slice of cake. This cost $8 per set and my family and I thought it was pretty reasonable especially after trying out their food, we were quite surprised with the food quality.

I had Deli Bites Nasi Lemak as I've heard some raves regarding Deli Bite's signature Nasi Lemak. Initially, my opinion on paying $5 for a plate of Nasi Lemak is a bit too much. But after trying out Deli Bites Nasi Lemak, I finally understood why there are people who are willing to pay so much just for a plate of Nasi Lemak. In Deli Bites, their Nasi Lemak is very well decorated on plate with sliced cucumber, half hard-boiled egg, peanuts, anchovies and 2 pieces of rendang chicken placed around the rice. Most of the nasi lemak that I've tasted were using fried chicken instead of rendang chicken so I find this interesting and in fact the chicken tasted quite delicious as the gravy has rich and thick coconut milk taste which this actually added fragrance to the dish.

Overall, I think that even though $5 for a plate of nasi lemak is still expensive but it's worth trying and I'll definitely make a return visit!

Pho Real, Times Square Food court

Just last week, mom was asking how come I never blogged bout Pho Real since I visit it so often. So here you go mom!

In case you're unaware of this, there is actually a place serving Vietnamese food in Brunei. I still remember vividly that there used to be one Vietnamese restaurant located at Batu Bersurat (the current Gold Leaf Restaurant) but it didn't lasted long. It's still a myth why the business ended but in my opinion, I think that it was probably because people at that time weren't daring enough to try new stuffs. It was only recent years when people started to accept different varieties of cuisines available in the country like Japanese, Korean and even Mexican food. I would say that this is a very good sign; at least for food lovers like us, we get to enjoy wide varieties of yummy food!

Ok, back to Pho Real!

It's not a restaurant but a stall located at the newly established Times Square food court. When I first found out about Pho Real, I was pretty eager to try it. And having visiting it for numerous of times, I would say it has never disappointed me. Food quality is always there and I would say it has got the best soup base of all the soup noodles I've tried so far.

Beef stew noodles is their signature dish which is highly recommended by the owner and it is also their most popular dish which I do agree. The beef stew is really soft and tender and the noodles being used in Pho Real is very different from other eateries. It's glass noodles which is made from flour and the texture and looks is very similar to kueh teow but less thicker. I would say it looks more like "mee pok". I actually prefer Beef noodles (clear soup) than the beef stew but it would be even better if less msg was used.

Another must try dish is Vietnamese Spring Rolls. I would say it is an iconic dish of Vietnamese cuisine and it wouldn't be completed without it! In Pho Real, there are three choices available when it comes to choosing the fillings for spring rolls; chicken, prawn, beef. I've tried all three of these and my favourite would be chicken but Hubby loves prawn fillings.

Menu is actually very limited in Pho Real but it's good enough. However, I still hope that the crew will be introducing more authentic Vietnamese dishes soon! :D

To cater the patrons better, the staffs actually served the bean sprouts and authentic Vietnamese chili powder with lime separately. In my opinion, the chili powder is not spicy at all.

Afternoon Tea Buffet @ The Empire Hotel's Lobby Lounge

After so many months, I finally had a chance to try this out, YAY!!!!!!!!!

I've always been wanting to try out Empire Hotel Lobby lounge's English afternoon high tea set simply because I wanted at least for once, enjoy the short moment of being "Tai Tai"... sipping hot tea, having different types of cakes and finger food served on that tiered stand while gossiping with friends, lol!

BUT, it never came true :(

Finally when Hubby's voucher was about to expired, instead of letting the free vouchers gone towaste, he decided to bring me there to fulfill my Tai Tai wannabe wish. And because of this, I even made the reservation a week earlier to secure the seats :P

SKY decided to tag along last minute so there were three of us but the reservation was only for two. Thus, the staffs had to move extra chair from another place to the lobby lounge and this actually took them quite awhile, something which I didn't expect of because it was pretty ridiculous to go such a far place just to grab a chair. I could see that most of the tables were reserved thus the staffs didn't want to move the chair of the next table which was nearer to us and instead made extra effort to grab the extra chair from their store room (I think). But those seats weren't all filled up too =/

I still thank the staffs for their effort and they could actually do it better by putting smiles on their faces. Somehow I had a feeling that they weren't that happy with us... They would need some training to improve their CRM (customer relationship management).

Anyways, back to food! I didn't expect it to be buffet and I was actually expecting some afternoon high tea set with food served on tiered stand. The choices of food available were mini burgers, scones, sandwiches, fried wan tan, fried noodles and so on. It was considered quite plenty of choices but the quality wasn't there. The fried noodles tasted below average while the burger breads were too hard. However the sandwiches and cheesecakes were finger lickin' good!

Our vouchers were only valid for two diners and due to the reason that it was a buffet, we had to pay for the 3rd person. I learnt that the normal price for this buffet actually cost about $23 per pax which I don't think it worth that price at all. But fortunately enough, we were entitled to discount with Hubby's Empire Select membership.

Although we weren't that happy with the food and service but we still enjoyed it due to the ambience and environment. And this ended my very short Tai Tai wannabe experience haha!
