I’d like to announce a new website in our family: The Learning Linguist. It’s in an early beta stage right now, but we’ve got people working on great new features. Right now you can get lists of great books to help you learn German, learn French, learn Bulgarian, or learn just about any other language you’d be interested in. Features to be added soon include a directory of language lesson podcasts, vocabulary lists, and user forums.

Check it out if you’re interested in becoming a polyglot!

We just rolled out another new feature: RSS feeds for recent reviews of a city’s restaurants. If you use a feed reader to keep up on blogs, you can use your reader to keep track of new restaurant reviews for your favorite city. For example, you can go to our Seattle restaurants page, and you’ll find the feed right next to the “Recent Restaurant Reviews” title with the standard feed icon: . Just go ahead and add it to your feed reader just like you would any other feed.

You can find your favorite city by going to our homepage and using the search box at the top of the page.

As always, please post a comment here if you have any comments or suggestions.

In case you haven’t heard of it, Twitter is an online service that allows you essentially to send small messages to groups of your friends, perhaps to keep them informed about what you’re currently doing. Someone described it to me once as being able to send out instant messages (IMs) to a bunch of friends all at once, as long as they are listening for them.

One thing that we here at Foodry are often currently doing is eating out at restaurants, so to make things a bit easier on Twitterers, we’ve added a button to the upper-right corner of our restaurant pages that will let you easily send a message about that restaurant.

For example, if I were about to go get some excellent Chicago-style pizza at Delfino’s in Seattle’s University Village, I’d head on over to that page, click the “Send to Twitter” button and send out something like “Eating at Delfino’s Chicago Style Pizzeria.”. We pre-populate the message with something useful to make it even easier and also add a short URL to the restaurant page so your friends can see reviews and a Google map of the place, in case they want to join you.

Foodry isn’t associated with Twitter at all; we’ve just taken advantage of their graciously supplied API to post messages. You’ll need to use your Twitter credentials to sign-in on our Send to Twitter form. Don’t worry, we don’t save them or do anything except pass them on to Twitter, so we won’t know anything about your Twitter account beyond what information they return to us when we send them a message.

If you have any comments, suggestions, or bug reports, please post them below. We hope this new feature is something you’ll find useful!

I’ve added a few little things to improve the usability and to make it a bit more interesting in general.

First, I’ve added a Top Reviewers list to the home page. Looks like Aaron has taken a huge lead with 31 reviews.

I’ve also improved the city pages a bit. Where they were just a search results page, now they are more of a summary page, with a tag cloud and most viewed restaurants list. Future features will include top reviewed restaurants, top reviewers for the city, and a list of nearby cities. Take a look at a few: Seattle, WA, Cleveland Heights, OH, and, one of the most popular, thanks to Aaron’s reviews, Stevensville, MI.

Look for some more updates coming soon!
