As ordinary members of staff at the Royal Bank of Scotland lose their jobs, Fred Goodwin is home free with his £650,000 a year pension. Where is the justice in this?

Darling denies knowledge of £650,000 Goodwin pension - Well there's no surprise there! No one seems to know what anyone is doing in matters of government and business.
Sir Fred Goodwin should renounce RBS pension and perhaps he might think about dropping the "Sir" title at the same time. It's clear that those who should monitor these things will allow him to continue to lord it over us punters for as long as he cares to do so.

As a society we are a joke.

Two child actors from the film Slumdog Millionaire will be moved from slums to new houses by Indian authorities.

Rubina Ali and Azharuddin Ismail, who played young versions of two main characters, were discovered by casting agents in Mumbai's Garib Nagar slum.

There was an outcry when it was found they were still living there after the success of the Oscar-winning film. - BBC News

I [the writer of this blog post], am sorry for all the distress that has been caused by the failure of the banks. We are all sorry that it has happened.

This appears to me to be the same level of apology I heard today from Sir Fred Goodwin, Sir Tom McKillop, Andy Hornby and Lord Stevenson of Coddenham, the bankers, as they were questioned by the Treasury Select Committee. I heard no genuine, first person, apology for their part in the matter. I heard no acceptance that they were even remotely responsible or culpable. In fact, they seemed to imply that they were victims. The sorrow expressed seemed to be more to do with the money they and their colleagues had lost. It defies belief. We live in a gutless amoral society devoid of Truth.

Teenage Disney star Miley Cyrus has defended a photo in which she is making a slant-eyed gesture, claiming she was "simply making a goofy face".
The leaked shot of the 16-year-old singer and actress was taken with a group of friends, one of whom is Asian.
The Organisation of Chinese Americans criticised Cyrus for setting "a terrible example for her young fans".

Society has gone mad. The thought police are now jumping on folks who make funny faces. What the hell is going on! It seems to me that the true intent of those who insist on jumping on the racist bandwagon and dragging all and sundry with them needs to be questioned. I have no idea if there was a racist intent in this photo [unless you were there, neither do you] but I do know that those who cry racist at every opportunity are doing us [society] no favours at all.

So where are those two fine upstanding goody two shoes [Chiles and Brand] hiding while all this furore has erupted over Carol Thatcher's "golliwog" remark? Why the hell did this end up in the paper? Surely such mature adults could have sorted this issue out quietly in private. How pathetic they are. Talk the damn issue out.

The One Show - don't make me laugh! It would be better described as "The Non Show." Even at its best it seldom manages to reach any standard of serious reporting.

The BBC have shown themselves to have no sense of proportion. This episode is in no way, shape or form, similar to the Brand/Ross affair. Carol Thatcher's remark was never broadcast. We have no way of knowing context and/or tone. Brand/Ross were offensive on air.

Hypocrisy, stupidity, mediocrity are just some of the words that spring to mind when I ponder the situation. One wonders just how well the 'players' will come out of this.

You really have to wonder at the absurdity of this event. If there is any instance of offence then surely it should have been attended to there and then without some idiot running off to the newspapers. I get the impression that the folks at the BBC are looking for a pat on the back for effective thought policing. How sad is that!
Update: The furore continues. The players seem to deny their respective involvements as portrayed by the media and the blogs. The story seems to change with every passing minute. The facts seem scant. ...and I cannot help thinking that society's clout has fallen under the sway of idiots. Something that should have been handled very simply has been allowed to spiral out of control. Where have all the effective managers gone?

Giant snake discovered

"The discovery of fossilised remains belonging to the world's largest snake has been reported in Nature journal.
Titanoboa was 13m (42ft) long - about the size of a London bus - and lived in the rainforest of north-east Colombia 58-60 million years ago.
The snake was so wide it would have reached up to a person's hips, say researchers, and was estimated to have weighed more than a tonne."

What a load of rubbish!
A little bit of snow and everything grinds to a stop. I cannot remember a day in my life when I was prevented from travelling to work because of snow. I can remember getting in a little late because of it... but that is it!

And what is it with bus drivers playing snowballs in their yard instead of shovelling the snow out of the way so that the buses can get out. Make a damn effort!

Good work ethic is no longer in evidence.

Apostrophes abolished by council

It is a very strange state of affairs.

It seems that the councillors in Birmingham would rather pander to ignorance than make serious efforts to improve standards of education.

Perhaps the councillors are advocates of an Animal Farm type of society. Sometimes it feels that this has become the primary directive in British politics and business.

F1 and Fred Goodwin

I cannot say that I am surprised that F1 might approach someone like Fred Goodwin to replace someone like Max Mosley. I gave up on F1 some years back. It seemed to have lost touch with society and the world. After an ever growing list of F1 nonsense [and what appeared to be, in my opinion, ineptitude], the final nail, for me, was the idea that fuel might be uselessly "burned off" in the name of qualifying. It defied belief. Admittedly, the F1 cars did not waste much fuel, in the great scheme of things, but the notion that such a concept should in any way be deemed acceptable was ludicrous. It was a smack in the face of growing global concern for conservation and no one in F1 seemed to notice.

"Reward for failure" indeed, but that has been the way of modern business for some years. As a spectator, I am no longer astounded at the fat cat antics, it has become the norm. Even as banks fall around us the fat cats still manage to leave with multi million pound pension plans intact. "I'm alright Jack" is the motto of privileged society's uncaring dross. They do not care about you or the environment.

If I was Fred Goodwin I would hang my head in shame. I would disappear from the public eye. I would contemplate the absurdity of my ways in the hope that such an effort would help me regain a modicum of moral fibre. Of course people like Fred Goodwin might disagree. Who cares!
