BLACK + WHITE! BLACK + BRIGHT!

Black and white.  It’s that simple.  And that makes it easy to set our wardrobe for spring since most of us have black and white in our closets.  But the fashion question is how to wear black and white. The look this spring is graphic patterns such as stripes and dots, mixed and matched together to bring clean, dramatic combinations. At our FOOT TRAFFIC photo shoot, we had a great time using lots of black and white for our 2013 SPRING LOOK BOOK as well as pops of color. When building your foundation wardrobe for spring, you should include (and probably already have!) the following items:

• Black skinny jeans or boyfriend jeans
• White jeans
• Black leggings
• Little black skirt or dress
• Crisp white shirt
• black and white stripe anything
• Black and white Polka dot anything

The stars put on quite a show for us at home as we gawked at those that followed the rules and those that dared to show some skin. But that is so yesterday!

As much as I love holiday music and have it playing non-stop in my car starting the day after Thanksgiving, I don’t need to hear another carol until the same time next year.

And, now that winter is here and the holiday rush is over, I get excited about music and new tunes.  I will read more, relax more and exercise more, all with new music as my backdrop.   I love to keep abreast of new artists and songs that I will enjoy with my post-holiday agenda.

So this time of year, I grab my music socks. 

I have various pairs of music socks from ankle socks to knee socks to no-shows. Whether under my boots, with my ballet flats or under my work-out shoes, I gravitate to the music socks! Music socks remind me to keep a song in my heart, keep my feet tapping and my music cranked as I step, leap, and dance into the unknown year ahead.

It is the one time of year when I can decorate the house with a big tree, lots of lights and lots of greenery! As my son once said , “ You decorate with lots of love.”  That I do! But this year, I have made a decision to simplify my decorating. I am going with Christmas white decor, holiday greenery and a dash of sparkle.

I need to add another stocking to the mantle this year and found this wonderful holiday recycled stocking that I am going to make. I am a DIYer to the core and this looked neither difficult nor expensive (recycled sweaters and felt).  It came from the book, Indygo Junction’s FABRIC FLOWERS by Amy Barickman. The book features wonderful fabric flower patterns including this stocking and the felt poinsettia.  I will also tackle the wreath.

What does this have to do with socks and legwear?  Every year I fill the stockings for my family with fun gifts, including novelty socks from Foot Traffic. They are perfect stocking stuffers because I personalize them to each recipient.  The smiles and chuckles that I witness when they find their socks is what Christmas is all about.  Yes, the holiday atmosphere is important but not as important as shared smiles and giving gifts that show you know someone.  It’s as simple as that.
