			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I was thinking of Steve McNair&#8217;s Super Bowl today.  His scramble in the fourth quarter that led Kevin Carter and D&#8217;Marco Farr to the Rams sideline to be chewed out for being quitters by Dick Vermeil is one of my favorite Super Bowl plays.  If only they could have closed the deal on that one and not come up short.</p>
<p>Amazingly this video is still on YouTube.  Highlights of Super Bowl XXXIV.  The Scramble is at the 1:30 minute mark.  This is how I will remember Steve McNair.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://footballjabber.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/mcnair.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-1801" title="mcnair" src="http://footballjabber.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/mcnair.jpg" alt="mcnair" width="107" height="120" /></a>I have been out of the loop this July 4th, spending time with the family out at the campground.  I just got online to see that Steve McNair was found shot shot to death.  That made me sad.  I liked Steve McNair.  I always said that more people should play like him when he was in the NFL.  I found the news disturbing.  Reading some of the comments following the article I found myself more disturbed.  People like bobbysmith (If that is your real name) tick me off.  Here is bobbysmith&#8217;s reply to some people expressing feelings over the loss of McNair at <a href="http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2009/07/former_nfl_quarterback_steve_m.html#post" target="_blank"><strong>Cleveland.com</strong></a>&#8230;</p>
<p><em>&#8220;One of the good guys?</em></p>
<p><em>Two DUIs - one with a loaded 9mm on the front seat. You must consider Donte&#8217; Stallworth right up there with the pope.</em></p>
<p><em>And Jesus Christ people. The plural of a noun ending in &#8220;y&#8221; is &#8220;ies&#8221;. Not &#8220;y&#8217;s&#8221;. Not &#8220;ys&#8221;. It&#8217;s hard to take you or your comments seriously when you show such a profound ignorance of basic grammar.&#8221;</em></p>
<p>Judge bobbysmith would be handing out the Death Penalty a lot this weekend as some everyday Joe&#8217;s that have a lapse in judgement get behind the wheel when they shouldn&#8217;t this 4th of July weekend.  We won&#8217;t debate Drunk Driving.  It&#8217;s stupid (been there), I know, but rarely does a Jury find that someone be put to death for it.</p>
<p>What gets me is imagining bobbysmith getting a smile on his face when reading this thinking, &#8220;This is my time to shine!&#8221;   Plotting his every word as clever as he is, using this as his opportunity to be witty and and have others finally see it for themselves.  You know&#8230;that almost wouldn&#8217;t be as bad as what I really think it is.  What I really think is going on is the guy uses the internet to say things to people he wouldn&#8217;t have the guts to say to them on the street.  He likes to see people get wound up over what he says and there is nothing they can do about it.  I&#8217;m sure that bobbysmith is an a forum somewhere right now cutting someone down for saying &#8220;seen&#8221; instead of &#8220;saw&#8221; and enjoying every minute of it. (<strong>Update:</strong> Nope.  bobbysmith is still leaving reply after reply on that page as of four minutes ago&#8230;more than three hours past his first reply&#8230;and really does appear to be enjoying the waves he is making.)</p>
<p>Enough&#8230;I&#8217;m not going to let bobbysmith get me wound up anymore than he has.  He does remind me of an article I read recently called <a href="http://www.cracked.com/article_17522_6-new-personality-disorders-caused-by-internet.html" target="_blank"><strong>6 New Personality Disorders Cause By The Internet</strong></a>.  Seems to fit most of those.</p>
<p>I miss Steve McNair already, even if he did make some poor choices.</p>

<p>If you have been listening to Sirius you have more than likely heard of the new FREE application.  Personally, I have not carried a cell phone in two years (not since I was a therapist and HAD to carry a phone all the time, no desire since then), I do however have an iPod Touch and have it going right now.  Tell me of a better way to spend the weekend at the In-Law&#8217;s house.  I can sit appearing footballess, only to have it going in the headphones while tapping my finger to &#8220;the beat&#8221; and nodding at the wife.</p>
<p>It did not take the App long to shoot up the Free Applications chart, sitting at #4 as I type.  How does it work? If you are a subscriber you just enter your login info when you are near a wireless connection and you are HOOKED UP!  I hear there are some music stations available too but I have not got past NFL Radio.</p>
<p>On another note&#8230;for those that listen to NFL Radio, does Ross Tucker sound like Tommy Chong to anyone else other than me?</p>

<p>Thomas Boswell at <em>The Washington Post</em> has a look at how the <strong>Redskins</strong> are putting on a &#8220;<a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/04/25/AR2009042503009.html" target="_blank"><strong>How not to treat a QB</strong></a>&#8221; clinic for Jason Campbell.  After failing to get Jay Cutler and the temptation of Mark Sanchez in the draft, the Skins staff now can do some damage control.</p>
<p><em>&#8220;The Redskins&#8217; brass can explain to him that, even though they tried to move heaven and earth to trade for airhead, pouting, party boy passer Jay Cutler three weeks ago, and despite the fact that they were still trying to trade up to grab USC quarterback Mark Sanchez on draft day yesterday, the team&#8217;s top executives still love him madly.&#8221;</em></p>

<p>There have been quite a few headlines that <strong>Donovan McNabb</strong> <a href="http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/eagles/20090613_Eagles_give_McNabb_a_bonus__now_he_wants_a_Super_Bowl_ring.html" target="_blank"><strong>wants a Super Bowl</strong></a> now that he got his bonus.  Well&#8230;if that is all it takes I&#8217;m sure the <strong>Eagles</strong> would have forked over more cash rather than lose all those NFC title games.</p>
<p>Just what the rest of the NFL needed.  The<strong> Steelers </strong>young players are <a href="http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/sports/steelers/s_629215.html" target="_blank"><strong>making huge strides</strong></a>.</p>
<p>The <strong>Dallas Cowboys</strong> Defense is taking on a <strong><a href="http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/football/cowboys/stories/061209dnspoarcher.6ee80d66.html" target="_blank">new look</a></strong> in 2009.</p>
<p>Eric Mangini says that the QB&#8217;s for the <strong>Browns </strong>are <a href="http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2009/06/cleveland_browns_anderson_miss.html" target="_blank"><strong>heading into training camp even</strong></a>.  Does that mean Derek Anderson had the lead before injuring his leg and missing two practices?</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>So NFL Draft-Day One is in the books.  I have to say, this more streamlined NFL Draft that the Commish has put together is pretty sweet.  It was however tough to wait until 3pm to get started.  Business as usual&#8230;trades, people falling, people going sooner than expected.  Have to love it.  Here is some pick by pick first round NFL Draft Jabber&#8230;</p>

<p>For three months this shot was called&#8230;so much that in the last week people tried to make any case they could think of for it not to happen.  The Lions got their guy.  Word is he will watch Dante Culpepper from the sidelines next season&#8230;or most of the season.</p>
<p>2) St. Louis Rams:<strong> Jason Smith</strong>, OT, Baylor</p>

<p>I walked away to get some food and came back to see a smiling Eugene Monroe on the phone.  I learned soon enough that they would do this often and did not mean that was the picked player on the phone.  Made me often wonder why these guys are not keeping the lines open.</p>
<p>Anyway, Jason Smith goes to the Rams despite all the Mark Sanchez talk.  Good pick.  Once Orlando Pace was shown the door they HAD to get one of the top Tackles.</p>

<p>The first somewhat surprise of the draft.  It made sense&#8230;just Aaron Curry was sitting there and sometimes people expect you to take the best player on the board&#8230;especially if he is a linebacker and linebacker is a HUGE part of the scheme you use.  Still, Jackson makes sense and should help the LB crew the Chiefs have behind him.</p>

<p>Curry almost made it here in the last mock draft.  Otherwise, he had not seen himself past #3 since sometime in late January I believe.</p>
<p>Of course there is Sanchez talk here&#8230;also Eugene Monroe.  Once Curry fell though it was all over.  He addressed a major need for the team and was looked at as the safest pick in the draft.</p>

<p>The first trade.  It would seem like unlikely partners since the Jets gave Mangini the boot recently.   The Jets just seem like they would be a team with a QB with some charisma.  Was kinda funny to watch the two guys booing and throwing their arms about in the Jets jerseys.  Didn&#8217;t so much look like they were upset but more like that is what they are supposed to do as Jets fans at the draft.</p>

<p>Everything else aside this was a great pickup for the Bengals.  There will be all the character jokes but we are used to that.  So much that they are losing some zing for me.</p>

<p>The first pick to be bashed by the media experts.  Todd McShay kinda wondered out loud why Al Davis has not learned speed isn&#8217;t everything.  He also pointed out that this is one of the main reasons that the Raiders are picking so high every season.</p>

<p>After acquiring Tra Thomas in the offseason, Offensive Tackle was kind of put on the back burner as a need.  This pick still makes sense though as Thomas is not a spring chicken and Monroe can play as soon as you want him to.  Kind of shocking to see them not take Michael Crabtree since the WR spot is still very shallow and Torry Holt is not a long term answer.</p>

<p>By now have you noticed that the family surrounding the prospects wants to be on TV more than the prospects themselves?  This was an awesome pickup for the Packers (especially since they got their pass rusher later).  It will make the transition to the 3-4 that much smoother.</p>

<p>It would likely be tough to find a projection this season that found Crabtree fall past pick #10.  Although all signs pointed to D&#8230;well&#8230;not all&#8230;they need help at OT, QB, and WR&#8230;the Niners found themselves with a gift on their lap.  We already heard the Jerry Rice comparisons before the video delay of the news reaching Crabtree.</p>

<p>After the Bills traded away Jason Peters this spot became OT in the eyes of many.  Trading away Peters did not change the fact that the Bills went into this process looking for a pass rusher.  They got him here!</p>

<p>The last week word really started coming out that the Broncos may go RB.  WHAT?  The Broncos don&#8217;t draft RB in the first round, do they?  Well, Mike Shanahan is not pulling the trigger anymore and as we have seen it is apparent that Josh McDaniels is doing whatever he wants.  Good move for the Broncos since with all the RB&#8217;s they have brought in they still do not have an identity.</p>

<p>This was a fall for Orakpo.  Tyson Jackson and Heyward-Bey moving up into the top 10 pushed him out.  The Skins just got a solid pass rusher to put on their new look defensive line.</p>

<p>Jenkins to the Saints was called be almost as many people as Stafford to the Lions.  Not only are the Saints in desperate need of CB help, but Jenkins projects as a Safety and they need help there as well.  Had he not went back to OSU last season he would have been a top pick in 2008.  Good move for the Saints.  Word is they tried to get up late in the first to get Beanie Wells&#8230;that woulda been swell.</p>

<p>Given the family ties and the local media&#8217;s man-crush, I thought this pick would have been Clay Matthews.  Brain Cushing is the more polished of the USC LB&#8217;s though and it is a solid pick.  Watch out for the Texans in 2009&#8230;they may be sneaking up on some teams.</p>

<p>English was one of those guys that you thought would go in the first round but didn&#8217;t quite know where to put him.  How about on a team that does not really have any glaring needs?  The Chargers continue to stock up on talent.  One of these days Lombardi trophy&#8230;one of these days.</p>

<p>Freeman is telling the media that he was told by the Bucs that the Leftwich signing was a smokescreen&#8230;Wonderlic test scores should be demanded soon.  Not the best move  Rook.  Anyway, it was a good move by the Bucs.  Could become the Big Ben of the 2009 draft in the future.</p>

<p>Ayers is listed as being drafted as an OLB.  He was thought to be one of the top prototypical DE pass rushers in the draft, which makes it a little shock.  Watch Everett Brown fall&#8230;</p>

<p>What a pickup this late for the Eagles.  Long looked at as the speedy WR that would be in Oakland, Maclin falls almost out of the Top 20.  How is that for some weapons Donovan?</p>

<p>The Falcons needed a DT maybe more than any other position.  I personally did not think that Jerry would fit out of the options for them.  Regardless, good pickup for the Falcons.</p>

<p>Some weeks back there was talk about Davis in Miami.  Sounded like he wanted to be there and sounded like Miami was eying him.  Should be a solid addition to a needed position for the Fins.</p>

<p>This was the jaw dropping point for me.  Not that Matthews should not have went here&#8230;he could have went earlier&#8230;it was because I was thinking how they already got Raji earlier in the draft.  WOW!  Talk about a starting point for that new 3-4 D!</p>

<p>This goes to show you that the Colts will not hesitate to bring in a change at RB (ask Marshall Faulk and Edge James).  The Colts could certainly use two RB&#8217;s&#8230;you have to wonder if this will effect the future of Joseph Addai though.</p>
<p>28 ) Buffalo (from Panthers through Eagles), <strong>Eric Wood</strong>, C, Louisville</p>

<p>Buffalo adds needed bodies to both lines in the first round.</p>

<p>The Giants had the luxury of not having a bunch of holes to fill.  With the whole Plaxico Burress thing we knew they should add a WR here.  Nicks gives them the possible threat to step in right away.  Nice move Giants!</p>

<p>Just like the Saints went CB in the first round after years of nagging, the Titans went WR.  Kenny Britt&#8217;s stock shot up the last few weeks finding his projection going into the first round.  After toying with the Anquan Boldin idea they have the big WR for Collins.</p>

<p>Whodathunk Wells would have fell this far.  He fell into the lap of the Cards in our last mock draft but it was really by default because of earlier picks.  Great pickup for the Cardinals.  Watch out NFC West!</p>
<p>32) Pittsburgh Steelers, <strong>Evander Hood</strong>, DT, Missouri</p>
<p>To this team in  2009 Football Jabber Mock Drafts:  NOPE</p>
<p>The Steelers could have passed on this draft and still make it to the Super Bowl again.  No glaring needs although they could have really used O-Line.  Hood adds help on the D-Line.</p>

<p>The other day I was pondering what sort of eats I will be preparing for myself this weekend to pound into my face while watching the draft.  Then it occurred to me&#8230;we have a Chef  hanging out in the forums.  I asked Chef Jimmie to whip something up for us and what he would like to see his Browns do in the NFL Draft.  Jimmie was happy to.</p>

<p><em>On the site, we have some nice info on preparing your wings. take a few mins to look it over.</em></p>
<p><em>I do offer &#8220;Samples&#8221; of the sauces. the size is about 4 ounces of whatever sauce you want to try, all I ask is that you pay postage, usually less than $5.00</em></p>
<p><em>Meat rubs, add flavor to your food. great for grilling and roasting.</em></p>

<p><em>There is also a strawberry salsa, its phenomenal!</em></p>

<p>Now on to the NFL Draft Day eats! Try some of these&#8230;</p>
<p><em><strong>&#8216;Tater Skins</strong></em></p>
<p><em>Idaho Potatoes 6 each<br />
1 pound of Bacon (chopped and cooked)<br />
1 pound of cheddar cheese (Shredded)<br />
chives (dried or fresh) (your choice)<br />
Sour Cream</em></p>
<p><em>1. Bake your potatoes. (45 mins at 375)<br />
2. After they are cool enough to handle them cut them in half length wise<br />
use a spoon to dig out the potato part, leaving the skin and a thin (1/4 inch) layer of potato.<br />
3. If you like crispy skins, deep fry the skins for 3-5 mins.<br />
4. Once you have cooked and drained the fat from the bacon, add the bacon to the potatoes and top with cheddar cheese.<br />
5. Bake for 5-7 mins<br />
serve with Sour Cream!!</em></p>
<p><em><strong>Buffalo Wings</strong><br />
wash and then place your wings on a baking tray the night before, leave uncovered and place in fridge, to dry overnight.</em></p>
<p><em>Fry your wings in fryer for 10-12 mins<br />
toss in your favorite sauce (http://www.chefjimmie.com ?) and serve<br />
(you can toss your wings in flour of you like, but I like mine nekid!)<br />
Serve wing celery, blue cheese or ranch</em></p>
<p><em><strong>Nachos and spicy bean dip</strong><br />
get a bag of your favorite nacho chips<br />
1 12 oz can of refired beans (I perfer vegetarian beans)<br />
1 16 oz jar of your favorite spicy (or not) salsa<br />
mix and heat in you crock pot or microwave.<br />
top with shredded cheddar and serve!</em></p>
<p><em><strong>Variation #1</strong><br />
Pick up a loaf of Velveta cheese<br />
Dice up some of the cheese and add to the dip. The heat</em></p>
<p><em><strong>Pumpernickle bread w/Spinach Dip</strong><br />
1 cup mayonnaise (not miracle whip and not LIGHT Mayo)<br />
1 (16 ounce) container sour cream (not light sour cream!)<br />
1 (1.8 ounce) package dry leek soup mix<br />
4 ounces finely diced onion<br />
1/2 (10 ounce) package frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained<br />
1 (1 pound) loaf round pumpernickle bread</em></p>
<p><em>1. Mix together mayonnaise, sour cream, dry leek soup mix, onions and chopped spinach. Chill in the refrigerator 6 hours, or overnight.</em></p>
<p><em>2. Cut out a hole in the center of your bread, add dip.</em></p>
<p><em>3. Cut up the part you have taken out and place around the loaf. tear off more as you go and dip!</em></p>
<p><em><strong>Kielbassi and kraut sandwiches</strong></em></p>
<p><em>add 1 12 oz can of kraut<br />
4 oz finely diced onion<br />
3 tbsp applesauce<br />
mix well<br />
heat in your crock pot or dutch oven<br />
add kielbassi or hot dogs and heat well<br />
serve with some spicy mustard on a hard roll.</em></p>
<p><em><strong>Sauteed Mussles (or Shrimp) and beer</strong><br />
3 pounds of Mussels (or shrimp)<br />
3 oz butter<br />
1 bottle of your favorite beer</em></p>
<p><em>Rinse your muscles,<strong> if you have any that are already open, disgard them, they are dead and should not be eaten.</strong><br />
Melt butter in saute pan over medium heat<br />
Add beef (be careful, beef is flammable!!!)<br />
Add Mussels or shrimp.<br />
Saute shrimp until shrimp just starts to close (tail moves to the head) but not completely touching. (overcooked shrimp is tough and rubbery)<br />
Muscles will open up when cooked, again avoid over cooking.<br />
(cooking time should be about 3 mins.)</em></p>
<p><em>Remove from beer/butter and enjoy!</em></p>
<p><em>&#8230;and of course serve all the above with your favorite &#8220;DRAFT&#8221; Beer, Lager or Stoudt</em></p>

<p><em>I think that the trade Brady Quinn and Braylon Edwards get two more first round picks or a first and three seconds.<br />

<p>There has been major movement in the NFL Mock Draft in the last week.  NFL Draft Prospects are out visiting teams, trades, rumors, stock rising, stock falling and smokescreens.  Love this time of year!  Here is a look at some of the influences in changes and the mock draft&#8230;</p>
<p>It is looking more and more like Mark Sanchez is not going to make it out of the Top 10.  Either Sanchez goes to one of the QB needing teams or, more than likely, there is a trade up to get him.  Our mock draft does not have trades so we have him falling to a Top 10 team.</p>
<p>The <strong>Broncos</strong> first round picks are interesting as it can really help a team that has strong needs on defense.  They certainly could be in the Sanchez race but for some reason McDaniels comes across as a guy that thinks his system can make the QB&#8230;even if that QB is Chris Simms or Kyle Orton.  If they go defense with those two picks they can make it look like a Madden draft in the first round with two studs added on that side of the ball out of the gate.</p>
<p>Speaking of two picks&#8230;the <strong>Lions</strong> have a tough decision to make with the first pick.  Chances are they are going to go Matt Stafford for several reasons, none of which are that he is the hands down best player to take there.  Anyway, that second first round pick is interesting.  On one hand there is going to be an Offensive tackle to take that to protect their first overall choice.  This can take some heat off if they can get a guy that can keep Stafford upright enough&#8230;alive enough&#8230;to make people forget they could have had Jason Smith.  On the other hand, they could land a defensive player who is a #1 or #2 prospect at his position, addressing both sides of the ball.  Interesting in deed&#8230;</p>
<p>Will the <strong>Saints</strong> do what they are expected to do every season and take a CB or LB&#8230;or will they fill the one so-so need on that offense at RB?  The problem the Saints have is that they have seen what it is like to be hurting at RB because of injury the last couple of seasons.  That could mean that all this Beanie Wells love being thrown out there lands him in New Orleans.  It also could mean that the Saints would like more draft picks and want to move out of their spot with a number of valuable players still available there.</p>

<p>1. <p>Yes, you have heard it before.  The Lions are starting over…from ground zero.  A new face for the franchise is in order and that is Matt Stafford.  Of course there are needs all over the board but the Lions likely go QB here to start over.  It is starting to look like this is one of those years that the QB you HAVE to take at #1 might not be #1 worthy.  Tired of saying the same thing over and over, many are starting to place Jason Smith in this spot.  Certainly a need but there will not be a QB at #20.  We know that the Lions need to start in the trenches and all that and Matt Stafford isn’t going to step in and make them Champions.  They are not an OT away from the Super Bowl either and they have a better chance landing one of those at #20.</p>

<p>2. Rams:<strong>Jason Smith</strong>, OT, Baylor</p>
<p>The best player for this spot is certainly an Offensive Tackle.  Not only do the Rams seriously need an OT, they let Orlando Pace go already.  Now what else would you be drafting if you cut the player you seriously need to draft someone to replace soon anyway?  Jason Smith is shooting up draft boards after the Combine.  If Crabtree was not falling you would have to wonder about him here too as Torry Holt is now gone.  Aaron Curry would make any team better as well.</p>

<p>3. <p>In acquiring Matt Cassel the Chiefs have freed themselves up to take what could be the best player in the 2009 NFL Draft here.   They also shake up some other picks as teams have to adjust to their move as well.  The Chiefs could use help on both of the lines…but how do you pass this guy up?</p>

<p>4. <p>The Seahawks were the long time landing spot for Michael Crabtree and still could be.  Although I’m not as convinced as they may be that T.J. is the long term answer, we are going to go in another direction.  B.J. Raji is a logical choice here but in obtaining Corey Redding they may feel that DT is good now too.  Next logical choice is to go with OT and Monroe is the best left on the board.  What the Seahawks have done in their moves though is gave themselves options to not have to rush a player, which would allow them to take either of those mentioned above.  Rumors even have Mark Sanchez falling here.  Now wouldn’t that shake up the board?</p>

<p>Still in search of that outside pass rush the Browns could go for Orakpo who we know is  a stud and some project could be an OLB in a 3-4.  Malcolm Jenkins is a possibility here as well but he needs to bring his stock back up.  B.J. Raji could very well be the pick here, especially if there is one of those DE/OLB hybrids they think may fall to them later.</p>
