Cristiano Ronaldo says there is a chance he might one day return to Manchester United.

The Portuguese star spent six years at Old Trafford before joining Real Madrid in 2009 in a record-breaking £80m deal.

"I have good memories from Manchester and when I watch sometimes the games I miss it a lot because it’s part of me I left in England," Ronaldo told Sky Sports News.

"Just because I play in Madrid I’m not going to miss speaking with the old guys so, when I have an opportunity, I speak with Sir Alex Ferguson.

"It was important for me when I played there, when my life was there, so it is good to speak with him because I’ll never forget who really helped me.

"I don’t close the door (on returning to England), so maybe in the future. I hope so, because I know the league, I know the players, I know the atmosphere."

The Ivory Coast international is on the mend after sustaining a heavy concussion the last time the Blues played – against Norwich City on August 27 – and he is likely to return when the Londoners travel to Old Trafford in ten days’ time.

Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas says that this weekend’s trip to Sunderland is too close for Drogba, as is Tuesday’s opening Champions League group stage meeting with Bayer Leverkusen at Stamford Bridge.

"He has to be authorised medically to make his full return to training," Villas-Boas said.

"He has been doing light sessions, of course, with our physios.

"Let’s push it to the limit to try for him to be available for Man United.

"I wouldn’t say he would be available for Leverkusen."

Villas-Boas added: "The first days were, of course, tremendous pain, and he had his family supporting him.

"He had complete support from the medical staff, who were with him 24/7.

"And we’ve been getting this support to him.

"We just have to make sure that he’s fully recovered before he comes back to training because that’s the requirement you have to do neurologically."

Arsenal are chasing Barcelona wing wizard Gerard Deulofeu.

The Daily Star says the Gunners have set their sights on the new Cesc – Barcelona youngster Deulofeu.

Cesc Fabregas joined Arsenal as a 16-year-old and went on the become the Gunners captain before rejoining the Spanish giants this summer.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is desperate to land Gerard Deulofeu – who is being compared to striker Lionel Messi – before he turns 18 next year.

Players in La Liga are only allowed to sign professional contacts at 18 – which means the Gunners can sign Deulofeu for just £3m.

Chelsea veteran Frank Lampard is remaining defiant regarding his England career even though the critics are looking to bring him down.

Lampard knows that there will be some knockers because of his age but he insists he will not call it quits on his international career until the manager makes his decision for him.

"One thing I do know is that, while I can give everything, I will give everything," said Lampard.

"And the only time I would probably not play for England is when the manager doesn’t want pick me any more – which can happen – or whether I find it a lot more beneficial for me in terms of my long-term career that I don’t want to play, and I’m certainly not near that.

"I’m 33 and once you hit 30 or 33 then people will always start talking up the ‘old’ thing.

"I’m here in the squad and very proud to be an England player."

Arsenal signing Mikel Arteta has made it very clear that he has not come to the club to step into the boots vacated by Cesc Fabregas or Samir Nasri.

The Spanish playmaker arrived from Everton after signing with the North London club on transfer deadline day but has warned fans that he is different to the departed duo.

However, he does feel strongly that he can assist the Gunners get back to normal following a tough start to the season.

"They were two top players for the club, they did really, really well in the last few years and now we have some new players coming in to try and make the same impact. I am sure we will,” he told Arsenal Player.

"I don’t want the fans to be expecting the same as them because every player is different.

"We need some time to adapt as well, but I am sure that we will give everything we can to make this team better."

Wayne Rooney says he is looking forward to reuniting with Manchester United strike partner Javier Hernandez this weekend.

The England star and Mexico young gun have formed a great relationship since Chicharito landed at Old Trafford last summer and they will be back on deck together against Bolton this weekend.

Hernandez has had a slow start to the new season after sustaining a heavy concussion in pre-season but he is expected to start at the Reebok Stadium on Saturday in the absence of the injured Danny Welbeck and Rooney can’t wait for him to get back to his goalscoring ways.

"I’m looking forward to him doing the same, if not scoring more goals for us, this season," Rooney told MUTV.

"Of course people know about him now but, if you look at all the top players around the world, people know how they play and it’s still difficult to stop them.

"His movement is so good it’s difficult to defend against. It won’t be easy for players to defend against him whether they know about him or not.

"It’s great to have a lad who has just come into the team, who speaks good English and is always smiling."

But, facing a race against time to reach an agreement as they looked to bolster a midfield recently shorn of both Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, Arsenal clinched the deal with minutes to spare before the deadline.

Meanwhile, Arsenal new boy Joel Campbell has been sent out on a season-long loan to FC Lorient, while fellow youngster Gilles Sunu joined the French club permanently, having spent the end of last term on loan there.
