What I enjoy is to see a player improve, to build a training session where you feel the team goes forward, and I believe that once I do not enjoy any more to go out on the pitch, then I will stop anyway because that is 90% of my pleasure. When I am on the phone until three o’clock in the morning, I must tell you frankly, I can delegate that easy.”

“Agbonlahor (pronounced ag-BON-la-hor), the son of a Nigerian father and a Scottish mother, tallied the winner for visiting Aston Villa against Manchester United on Saturday. It was Villa’s first win at Old Trafford since the start of the Premier League in 1992-93.

“England Considers its World Cup Strike Force” – New York Times Soccer Blog

Sometimes I wonder who that blog is for. Like, is there somewhere on the great big Venn diagram of soccer/football fans where the circles for “is into it enough to follow soccer blogs on the internet” and “doesn’t know how to pronounce Gabriel Agbonlahor’s name” significantly overlap enough that I’m overlooking?

It feels a lot like when John Harkes and JP Dellecamera, god bless ‘em, insist on referring to anything other than the US as “overseas.”

Maybe this is all just part of the big build up to the ENG-USA match in South Africa, a match that anyone in their right mind who has seen these two teams play recently is bored to death just thinking about. It’s like they both work very hard at having no style, an anti-style of football.

But, hey, they speak English! And they’re mostly white guys! I mean, they are, right? Special relationship!
