Emile Heskey scored his first goal in a competitive match for England since the 2002 World Cup as Fabio Capello’s side won 4-0 in Kazakhstan.

Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard combine with a short corner down the England left and from Gerrard’s cross, Man City’s £12m man Gareth Barry is unmarked at the far post to head into the corner.

Steven Gerrard’s cross is deflected and a backpeddaling Alexandr Mokin can only palm it into the path of Emile Heskey, who lashes home. Game over.

Johnson gets to the byline down the right, and powers the ball into the six-yard box. Heskey can’t connect, but Rooney can, sending an effort towards the top left. Mokin claws it out brilliantly - that’s a really outstanding save - but it’s all in vain, Rooney swivelling with his back to goal and hooking the rebound instantly into the net.

Mokin makes a wonderful close-range save from Cole, but again his work goes unrewarded. In the ensuing scramble, Abdulin tugs down Heskey and is booked. Lampard smashes the resulting penalty high into the roof of the net.

Man Utd go back to the top of the Premier League by beating Man City 2-0 at Old Trafford.

Stephen Ireland brings Dimitar Berbatov down and from then on it’s all about Cristiano Ronaldo. He rifles the ball goalwards, it takes a slight deflection and dips horribly just in front of Shay Given, beating the keeper’s dive and nestling into the corner.

That’s a brilliant goal to watch, and Carlos Tevez might just have proved his point. A long ball is played over the top of the City defence and Dimitar Berbatov showcases his unbelievable touch, somehow bringing it down and playing it back to Tevez. The Argentine shifts it sideways and rifles a superb shot in-off the right-hand post from 20 yards. Stunning.

West Ham Vs Liverpool Highlights

Steven Gerrard scored twice as Liverpool went back to the top of the league.

What a start by the away side. Torres slides a beautiful ball down the inside-right channel. The West Ham back line are rooted to the spot as Gerrard breaks onto it from deep - he looks miles offside, but he’s well on - and rounds Green on the right before pinging the ball into the empty net.

Gerrard sends a low penalty towards the bottom-left corner, but it’s not well struck, allowing Green to save brilliantly. Sadly for the keeper, the ball comes back across the face of the empty net, and Gerrard can follow the rebound home from two yards.

Another break upfield by Liverpool, but this one counts. Kuyt zips down the right (as much as Kuyt can zip) before standing one up towards Babel, free in the centre. Babel’s header from close range is parried by Green, but the keeper can do nothing as Babel hammers the rebound home from two yards.
