Premier League Greats-Jurgen Klinsman

2012-08-15T02:01:00.001-07:00

Jurgen Klinsman

Klinsman was signed by Tottenham Hotspur at the beginning of the 1994-1995 season, and highly regarded as one of the world's greatest strikers. The German international had won the World Cup with West Germany in Italy in 1990, he was then playing for Milan and at the peak of his career.

His next club was Monaco, and in 1994 Klinsman scored five goals at the 1994 World Cup finals cementing his reputation as a great striker.Next stop was the Premiership and Spurs.

Klinsman At Tottenham

Jurgen Klinsman had a reputation as a "diver", and although respected as a world-class striker. He was not popular in England and was a surprise addition to the Spurs squad, but the Spurs and English football fans would warm to the soon to become likeable German.

Premiership Debut

It was maverick coach Ossie Ardiles and his diamond formation that led to Spurs playing five forwards in the first match of the season away to Sheffield Wednesday.

Colin Calderwood scored the best goal of the game with a rocket into his own net that made it 2-2. Jurgen scored Spurs fourth goal with a header in the thrilling 4-3 triumph, and celebrated with the now famous full length dive.

A superb hat-trick in the 6-2 win against Wimbledon in the five minutes and ended up with four goals in all as Tottenham clinched Premiership safety in the penultimate game of the season.

Klinsman scored 20 goals in his only season in the Premiership and took the football writers" player of the year".

He started the season as "the man they loved to hate", and ended as one of the best-loved and finest Premiership players.

Most Dangerous Opponent? My ex-wife. Frank Worthington, answer to magazine questionnaire.

The Greatest Goal scored at Old Trafford

2011-02-13T06:24:00.000-08:00

There have been many great players who have played for Manchester United and the have all scored great goals at Old Trafford. Think of Bobby Charlton, George Best, Willie Morgan, Jimmy Greenhoff,Steve Coppell, Gordon Hill ,Frank Stapelton,Bryan Robson,Mark Hughes,David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Eric Cantona, Andy Cole,Christiano Ronaldo,Berbatov and Wayne Rooney. But surely the greatest goal was scored by the King, Dennis Law.

Dennis Law.

Law was born on February 24th 1940 in Aberdeen, Scotland. He signed for signed to Huddersfield Town in 1955.Dennis had spells with Manchester City and Italian team Torino. It was a then record signing of £115,000 on 18th August 1962, that took Dennis Law to Manchester United. Here his career really picked up and he achieved his legendary status.

Here is a list of Dennis's personal achievements and titles won with Manchester Utd.

European Footballer of the Year 1964
Inaugural Inductee of the English Football Hall of Fame 2002
Scotland's Golden Player by the Scottish Football Association (most outstanding Scottish player of the last 50 years) 2003
37 goals in 67 appearances for Manchester City
236 goals in 393 appearances for Manchester City
30 goals and 55 appearances for Scotland
Total of 587 league goals in 300 games

1963 FA Cup with Manchester United

English First Division Title 1965 and 1967 with Manchester United.

For me the greatest goal scored at Old Ttrafford was by Dennis, his great back-heel for Manchester City v M anchester Utd in last game of the 1973–74 season .
After a great run by Franny Lee who took out three players, he then slipped the ball back to Law who promptly back-heeled the ball into the back of the net.Law's lack of celebration was because his goal had relegated United, however they would have been relegated even if the match had been drawn.

Do you think this is the The Greatest Goal scored at Old Trafford?
