This one's a case of nothing ventured, nothing gained. I received this tip from a friend who tells me that the odds don't reflect Newcastle's perilous position on the cusp of relegation. Sure, Newcastle's fate depends on the performance of the teams around them, but he's right that the odds are very appealing.

The Magpies have 3 matches remaining this season: away to West Ham today, away to QPR on 12th May and at home to Arsenal on 19th May. You've got to fancy that QPR, who face their own relegation woes, will come out all guns blazing. It's also pretty unlikely Newcastle will beat Arsenal, even at St James Park.

Wigan still has a game in hand over Newcastle. They face West Brom later today, who they have beaten a couple of times in recent memory. Next Tuesday they face Swansea at home in what is likely to be a very close match. Wigan seem to play better at home than Swansea do away, so they could really bag a result there, particularly as they have so much to play for. Wigan then take on Arsenal away on 14th May. In all likelihood they'll not win that one, but their final home draw, to be played on 19th May, is an absolute peach against poorly performing Aston Villa who have just about clung on in the Premier League.

Newcastle's fate depends very much on Wigan's performance, but with the lure of a nine-fold return on investment I'm inclined to chance it.
