I don't get it but I guess it appeals to the mathematically inclined. Games go through these trends. Twenty-five years ago it was Rubiks Cube.

Niche Affiliate Marketing System (NAMS) Workshop 3 (Photo credit: rogercarr)

How to become affiliate marketer

Affiliate marketing is a system where a company pays marketers (affiliate) for each customer or visitor brought to the company's site by the marketer(s) efforts. More simply, the affiliate gets paid for each buying customer that he brings to the company's site. It is a simple system that anyone can do. You don't need to know how to make a site or code to get started, though they can help you if you do. It is a way to make some extra bucks or a full time salary if you work hard at. The great thing about it is that, you can do it without leaving your bed. You can finally be your own boss. You can set your working hours. It just depends on how much you want to make. If you work more you will make more and less if you work less, duh. I am going to teach you the system. The rest is up to you.

The system is broken down into a simple four steps process.

Customer visits affiliate's website or article page.

Customer becomes interested in the product and is directed to the company's website

Customer buys the product.

The affiliate gets paid a commission.

Each affiliate is given a unique "affiliate link" to direct the potential customer to the site. This link is a tracking device so the company knows which affiliate brought in which customer. You can get as many affiliate links as you want; meaning you can promote as many products as you want. There are thousands upon thousands of companies out there with affiliate programs so don't worry about running out things to promote.

To get started you will have to create an account on an Internet marketplace clickbank.com, cj.com, or linkshare.com. These are sites where thousands of companies put their products for affiliates to choose from. That way you don't have to go all over the web searching for good affiliate programs. You should also make an account on an article directory site such as ezinearticles.com, squidoo.com, or articledatabase.com. After setting up your accounts you will be ready get down to work.

To start, you need to pick something you want to write about: a good niche. Finding good niches is a whole other beast but basically a niche is a specific market for example diets, acne treatment, making money, etc. By picking the right niche, you can make a lot more money, a lot easier. For starters however, just write about what you know about, but keeping in mind that "products that solve problems" sell the best.

After you write pick your niche topic, write an article about the topic. You should give out value information about the topic to give readers a taste. After you finish your article you should go to the Internet marketplaces and find a suitable product(s) that fits your topic. Pick one and the company will give you a unique affiliate link that you put at the end of your article. Then you can either post it onto your own site or submit it to the article directory that you made an account for. Repeat the process and watch money flow in.

So there you have it! "The basics of becoming an affiliate marketer." It is a lot of work at the beginning to get your first articles up, but don't nitpick at one any one article. Just keep writing. After a bit, you will be pumping out articles like second nature. Oh, how did I forget to mention this: When you put your articles up they will be making money for the rest your life without you ever having to do anything! It's called residual income and it one of the golden perks about affiliate marketing and Internet marketing as a whole. Yea, I got the butterflies too.

If you are really serious making money from home or just interested in learning more about affiliate marketing, I run a site called marketingempires.com, where I offer more in depth details and suggestions. I personally learned many of my material from wealthyaffiliateuniversity. Hopefully it can help you out as well.

Web Hosting Servers (Photo credit: ivanpw)

Computer Servers for Dummies

To begin with, servers are defined as computers that are configured in such a way that they are able to provide specialized services to a specific client user or machine. They serve as task masters that manage a variety of services such as files, system jobs, network requests, and other various processes. Although they can be used for a myriad of purposes, servers primarily function as web hosting solutions.

The Wonder of Web Servers

Servers have become a very versatile solution for a variety of user needs. May it be file storage management, a network firewall, an email server, or simply as a web hosting solution, servers are the answer to almost every need. In fact, it would be very difficult to find any type of contemporary business or company that does not make use of some sort of server.

One of the biggest misconceptions about web servers is that they might be too complicated for the average Joe. The truth is, they are quite simple to manage and so long as a user has some level of technical knowledge, he should be good to go. In fact, setting up a server for one’s own website isn’t too much of a daunting task. Although it will still require a certain level of computer know-how, it is no Herculean feat at all. With a little research, some patience, and a whole lot of resourcefulness, one could very easily set up a personal server for one’s own site. This is also made possible by the fact that most server providers equip their users with easy-to-use tools to make the entire process much more user-friendly.

The Basics Types of Web Servers

When it comes to the configuration of web hosting servers, they generally come in three different offerings. First is shared web hosting which is the most common type of web server today. This immense fame is brought about by both its affordability and simplicity. Websites that run on shared servers will (obviously) share the same IP address as well as make use of the same system resources.

The second web hosting option for users is dedicated servers. As its name implies, websites that make use of a dedicated server will have full rights and control of the whole system. Because of the fact that they do not share their servers with other websites, this also means that they will have exclusive access to all the resources of the system.

The Keys to Success

Because of websites’ growing need for more hard drive storage space and bandwidth, servers have become more and more of a requirement rather than an option. Each individual or business will have a different set of requirements and needs which means there is no one-size-fits-all sort of web hosting solution for everyone. However, the good thing is that it isn’t that difficult to set up a specific type of server that will fulfil the needs of one’s own website. Doing a little online research will definitely be helpful in this regard as there are a multitude of websites that provide information and tips on how to set up a server for all sorts of business website.

Use CV Templates to Guide The Writing of a Perfect CV

By Dilan Davis

Whichever job applied for, it is the standard procedure to submit a CV a or a Curriculum Vitae. In layman's terms a Curriculum Vitae means "course of life". This could be translated as what was done during the course of your life. A CV provides information on the applicant's life and qualifications. It is longer than a resume and is mainly used for academic and medical careers. More information about a person's qualifications and life is submitted with a CV. CV is an important element in the screening process of the applicants and therefore should receive a lot of effort when being written.

CV Templates are used when applicants do not have the time to decide how they should create their CV or when the CV they have sent many times does not get a response from the organizations. A template is a rigid piece of information, which others can use as a model and learn from it. A template of a CV will provide the applicant an idea of how he should create his CV. It is a direct guideline in which the style and the layout are already designed. The applicant merely needs to type in details and customize the document. It should be kept in mind, however, that a template is ONLY a guideline. It should not be copied word for word. The applicant will have to decide what information is relevant to the job he is applying for and delete the items which are not relevant when a template is being used.

CV Templates are freely available online. There are many sites dedicated to this task. They will offer templates of CVs, resumes, and cover letters. Using a template makes the writing process easy since it provides you with the information needed to decide how you should format the CV. It also designs the styles and layout of the CV. However, there are disadvantages to it as well. Using a template for the CV is cheaper than hiring a writing service, but a template will not inform you as to what your CV should contain. Since the content is critical to the quality of the CV while the presentation is secondary, a CV written by a professional firm has a better chance of making the employers sit up and take notice. Also to note is that the styles of CV's change often, it is important to know which style is the most current in order to select the correct template for your CV

When using CV Templates it is important to make your CV customized and unique. It should not be like everyone else's CV. Most employers tend to judge applicants by the appearance of the CV. Even if you are the best candidate for the job, if your CV is not original and creative you may lose out on the chance of being called for the interview. Bear in mind that although a CV can be two or three pages long, if the wording is short and concise, and lack spelling and grammar mistakes and presented in a manner that is easy to read your CV is bound to be read. Templates take this in to account when they keep plenty of white space and use bullet points to present information.

If you are unsure about how your CV will turn out even after using a template, do not wait for someone else to get the job because his CV was professional and presented better than yours. GrandResume.com is a writing service which will help you with all your CV and cover letter needs. You may browse through some of the CV Templates in our web site and make use of them or entrust the job to us. Our writers have dedicated themselves to creating professional, unique and original CV's. All that is required from you is the information regarding your qualifications and skills etc. and GrandResume.com writers will do the rest of the job. Our writers will be available to you right through out the process and you can collaborate with them with your own inputs. You can be assured that the CV we create for you will be nothing short of the best that your prospective employer will receive.

The Complete Idiot's Guide To Real Estate Investing

A Beginner's Guide to Real Estate Investment Strategies

By Jennifer Minge

Deciding on your financial goals for your real estate investments is your first step in starting a good business. Do you need steady monthly income? Are you preparing your nest egg for retirement? Are you building up a portfolio to use for your children's education in upcoming years? To meet your goals, you need to choose the proper method of real estate investment.

One method to make some fast cash, even if you don't have any money, is locating great deals and selling them to other investors. Real estate investors are always looking for profitable deals, and if you can help them find them, they will either buy the contract from you, or may pay you a finders fee. Check into local real estate investment clubs and organizations for possible partners.

If you are wanting to establish a steady monthly income, the most common investment strategy is buying rental properties. You will need to put on your accountant's hat, and figure the price of the property and the rental income very carefully. Factor in all of your costs for the mortgage, insurance, taxes, and set aside a repair budget. You want to buy properties which will return more in monthly rental payments than the cost of owning the property. Many times buying less than prime properties and doing minor repairs and cosmetic touch-ups can make a single family home a great rental property. Your own local neighborhood may not be the hottest area for rental properties, so you may need to step into other neighborhoods, and communities to find the right mix of rental prices, and low cost properties.

Rental properties do come with one additional cost, which many investors overlook on their first purchase, their time. Some tenants can be demanding, others are slow to pay, and even others quit paying entirely and must be evicted. Choosing tenants wisely helps to reduce these issues, but you will always have some challenges. If you prefer not dealing with tenants, you may want to explore other options in real estate investing.

Another popular investment strategy is flipping properties. In this strategy you buy properties under market value, possibly because of the quality of the property, and you make the necessary repairs and renovations before selling for a profit. You'll need a good calculator and a sharp pencil for your budget planning on these deals. You need to take into account all parts of your planned renovations, and all possible costs to make sure the investment is likely to return a sizable profit.

Some real estate investors are in for the long haul, and buy properties to hold onto for a longer period of time, counting on rising prices to increase the value of the property before selling for a higher profit.

Your choice of what real estate investment strategy is best for you can be based upon your available financial resources, income needs, and interests. You may even decide to work with a combination of these methods to fill your real estate investment portfolio. Combining buying rental property, with a long term strategy of selling for a higher price is a common combination investment. Welcome to the exciting world of real estate investment.

The Complete Idiot's Guide To Mortgages, 2E

2012-12-10T03:43:00.000-08:00

A Comprehensive Guide to Mortgages

By Kathleen Dougherty

If you are considering the purchase of a home or property, you will likely need to get a loan to cover the cost. The type of loan you will need to secure property is called a mortgage. For most people, getting preapproved for a mortgage is recommended so you can more fully concentrate of finding the property you want. This way, you can concentrate solely on the types of homes that fit within your budget whether you are looking for a single family dwelling, condominium, townhouse or tract of land and newly constructed home.

The reason mortgages are necessary is because most people do not have the large amount of available cash to purchase a home outright. As typical homes range from $100,000.00 and up, it is rare to have that much sitting about in your checking account. Therefore, a person will apply at a bank or lending institution to obtain funding. In order to get approved, you will generally need good or at least decent credit. The poorer your credit, the more difficult it will be to secure a loan. If you do obtain a loan, you will likely have a higher interest rate to compensate the lending institution for the increased risk.

Once a mortgage is approved, the bank will hold a lien on the property until the entire mortgage is paid off. The property itself is the collateral used to secure the loan. Payments on the mortgage are typically made monthly though there are some exceptions depending on the lending institution. There are also different types of mortgages and different terms. A fixed rate mortgage means you will have the same percentage through the life of the loan unless you refinance. A variable rate mortgage will fluctuate depending on market trends.

If the financing terms of the mortgage are not met, for example if the home owner is unable to make the required monthly payments, the bank that holds the mortgage may put the loan into default. During default, the homeowner has a certain amount of time to bring the account current. If it is not done in a timely manner, the bank may seize the property and sell it to recoup their losses. This is called foreclosure.

There are various parts to a mortgage that you should be familiar with. When you get a mortgage you will likely see some or all of these terms on your financial documents so it is important to know just where your money is going and how it is being used to pay off your mortgage.

Down Payment - This is the amount of cash a buyer will put down on the home. Banks and lending institutions may dictate a required percentage or lump sum amount the buyer is required to have.
Principal - This is the gross dollar amount you are borrowing from the bank in order to purchase your property. For example, you may have a home that costs $500,000.00. If you have a down payment of $50,000.00 you will need to finance $450,000.00. The $450,000.00 is the start of your principal balance.
Interest - The bank offers loans to make money. They also want to mitigate risk so they charge an interest rate on the loan. This rate can vary depending on many factors including income, credit rating, and type of property. Shopping around to various financial institutions is also recommended because each one will have varying rates and may compete to get your business.
Taxes - Property taxes are assessed on the home that can vary from location to location. Sometimes the estimated property tax is added to your loan and that amount is held in escrow until it is due. This ensures there is no shortage and the taxes will be paid on time so no liens are added to the home.
Insurance - There are various forms of insurance that should be carried on a home in order to protect the investment. In addition to protecting the home, mortgage insurance may also be added to protect the bank in case of non payment of the loan and this amount may be added to the mortgage payment.

The monthly payment amount is calculated using particular portions of the above components. Each component is broken up into detailed amounts to make the sum payment. The amount that goes toward principal and interest is called amortization. If you over pay your mortgage the additional amount goes straight to the principal and this has the possibility of reducing your loan and paying it off faster. Mortgages typically range from fifteen years to thirty so shaving some time off that by consistently making higher payments is recommended if possible.

Tips for Buying or Selling a Home

By Gregory M Nicholas

There are going to be quite a few different tips for buying or selling a home which you will want to follow, depending on which side of this situation you are on. Whether you are trying to buy or sell a house, it will be important to get a good realtor. A professional real estate agent will be able to help you get what you need when it comes to finding the right home for you or selling the one you are currently in. One of the absolute best things you can do when trying to sell your house is to make sure that it is clean and presentable when people come to look at it. You will also want to clear away all of the clutter and extra pieces of furniture so the people who come to see it can picture the house with all of their things in it. You house doesn't need to be completely baron but it should have a minimal number of things in it.

You might also want to think about painting the walls in order to get them a fresh coat and look better as well as doing some minor repairs like patching holes in the wall and other things that prospective buyers look at in order to determine whether or not they really want to get the house. The Complete Idiot's Guide To Greening Your Business

Green Business Tip - Use a Promotional Tote Bag

By Brandon Glenn

Why should you consider "greening" your business? This is the question that many business owners are asking. Is the green movement just a fad? Do people really care about the environment, or are they just looking for more ways to make money?

That all depends on your answer to this question: are humans naturally good or evil? If they are evil, humans only care about their selfish desires, and they only want to go green because in the end it will make them more money. If your answer is that all humans are naturally good, then humans really do want to help the environment as much as possible and make as little of an impact as possible.

So, what do you believe? If you're in business, it doesn't really matter. Either way you look at it, people are going green; most likely with both motivations. People are going green to make money and because they really care about the environment. If you're in business you need to make your customers happy, and one positive thing you can do for your customers is to give them a promotional tote bag that is eco friendly.

You don't even have to just give it away for nothing, either. Some businesses that are moving into the green realm are giving their customers a free promotional tote bag when they purchase a certain amount of merchandise. For example, a meat market may give their customers a reusable shopping bag when they purchase more than $50 of meat. A coffee shop may give away a cotton drawstring backpack to customers that return to their store to fill up their cup 10 times.

There are lots of ways businesses can go green and a great resource for going green is by downloading this free guide: http://greenbagpromos.com/green-ideas-for-business.html

Brandon Glenn recommends you visit http://greenbagpromos.com to see options for a promotional tote bag.

Vegetable Gardening For Dummies

Why is "Vegetable Gardening for Dummies" so expensive - is it out of print? If so, will...?

...it be republished?
This book is one of the many from the popular "Dummies" how-to series. Charlie Nardozzi is the author.

It is indeed out of print. However, it's been replaced by the Gardening All-in-One book, which describes itself as "7 books in one". Its final sub-book is the vegetable gardening book, and was written by the same Charlie Nardozzi, probably taken from the same text as the Vegetable Gardening book.

I imagine there's enough common material on the basics of gardening that it doesn't really merit 7 separate books, which are more effort to produce, more valuable space on bookstore shelves, etc.

And at $20 at Amazon it's a lot cheaper and more complete than the old book.

Stem Cells For Dummies

2012-07-22T13:33:00.000-07:00

Use of some cells for diabetes

Diabetes is a syndrome characterized by disordered metabolism and inappropriately high blood sugar resulting from either low levels of the hormone insulin or from abnormal resistance to insulin's effects coupled with inadequate levels of insulin secretion to compensate. The symptoms usually are excessive urine production, excessive thirst and increased fluid intake, and blurred vision; these symptoms are likely absent if the blood sugar is only mildly elevated.

The current best medical practice for those with type 1 diabetes includes insulin by multiple daily injections or continuous pump infusion. Recently developed insulin analogues have helped to more closely approximate normal glucose homeostasis and have been especially beneficial in reducing hypoglycaemia while tightly controlling blood glucose. Glargine insulin provides nearly 24 hours of low level basal insulin activity, while mealtime peaks in activity can be mimicked by administration of rapid acting insulin analogues such as lispro and aspart insulins. Delivery of insulin by continuous infusion pump allows even finer tuning of insulin activity.
Although current insulin delivery modalities are quite good and improving, limitations still exist. Frequent self-monitoring of blood glucose is still required, as is estimation of insulin doses based on multiple factors that might affect future glycaemic changes.

Stem cells offer a potential solution to the opposed requirements of cell proliferation and function. In theory, these cells can proliferate in an undifferentiated state and then be converted to take on required metabolic functions through genetic and epigenetic manipulations. Stem cells have been isolated from embryonic tissues as well as a variety of fetal and adult sources, including umbilical cord blood, bone marrow, central nervous system, liver and pancreas. One potential advantage of adult stem cells is that they could be used for autologous transplantation. This might preclude the use of immunosuppressive medications to prevent allorejection. However, recurrent autoimmune-mediated destruction targeting cell proteins would remain problematic.

Xenogeneic cells are a potential source of cells for transplantation therapy. Because pigs regulate glucose in a similar physiological range to that of humans, and because porcine insulin has been used as an exogenous source of insulin, pigs are generally considered the most promising donor animal. However, islets from xenogeneic pancreata are more immunogenic than allegoric islets

Writing Fiction For Dummies

2012-07-22T13:05:00.000-07:00

What would be the best book for me?

I'm really sorry, I asked this question earlier but Y!A wasn't very busy and I didn't get many replies. I don't like it when people keep posting the same question over and over but I really would like some help. Sorry.

My birthday is coming up and I've been asked to give my parents and boyfriend a list of things I'd like. I'm writing a book at the moment (fiction) and I was wondering if there are any good books out there that can give me hints and tips on all the basics. I own Stephen King's 'On Writing' and I found this to be really helpful, but I'm looking for something that has a little more information. I have found 'Writing Fiction For Dummies' online, is this any good? Are there any published authors out there that used a book similar to this and found it really beneficial? Any help would be gratefully received.

Yes, Writing Fiction for Dummies is very good. It is written by Randy Ingermanson. I have his software novel writing program "SnowflakePro" and like it a lot. Here's his Advances Fiction Writing website:
http://www.advancedfictionwriting.com/
And a free download you shouldn't miss...
http://www.advancedfictionwriting.com/art/snowflake.php

There are several really good books. I'm reading this one now: "Writing and Selling Your Novel" by Jack M. Bickham. Really good. You'll have to get it used, but it's worth it.
http://www.amazon.com/Writing-Selling-Your-Novel-Bickham/dp/0898797888/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1263508762&sr=8-1

While you are working on y our novel, I suggest you work on a few short stories, to get your feet wet and to learn more quickky...here's a good book on that...
http://www.amazon.com/Schaums-Quick-Guide-Writing-Stories/dp/0070390770/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1247851525&sr=1-1

And this book is a little involved, more so than those above, but very good...
http://www.amazon.com/Plot-Structure-Techniques-Exercises-Crafting/dp/158297294X/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1263509115&sr=8-2

And by all means, go to this lady psychologist/writer's website and get her first two lectures on putting emotion in your writing...fabulous and so important and such good lessons...
http://www.margielawson.com/index.php/lecture-packets
I'm talking about "Empowering Characters' Emotions" and "Deep Editing..."
A bit advanced but as a fiction writer, this will be among your top investments in your craft!

Keep writing.

The Complete Idiot's Guide To Barter And Trade Exchanges

Barter Trade Exchange in Today's Business Operations

By Terry Lamb

In today's world, our economies are built around the acceptance of the almighty dollar, or pound, or euro for our everyday transactions. If you don't have currency, you are almost completely unable to complete a sale or transaction at a retailer today - that is unless your a member of a local barter network. Credit cards and other types of plastic currency have reduced the exchange of money, but have still placed the focus of business dealings on monetary units until now -- where barter is taking over for some businesses.

With that in mind, your position as a business owner may make you feel as if it would be helpful to conduct some business in the form of barter. Although barter trade exchange may seem to be an outdated idea, it can be an excellent alternative, particularly between businesses that can provide services that would be mutually beneficial for each business.

Minimizing the loss on your business's income can be achieved by using barter trade exchange agreements to acquire materials for use in your business operations. For example, if a print shop were to accept toner in payment for producing advertisements for an ink company, this would be a barter trade agreement. Another example would be a steel business being paid in heavy machinery vital to their trade, say a forklift truck or metal stamps, when they supplied another business with their products. Both groups at either end of the barter deal can reap advantages and profit from agreements of this kind.

On top of this, loop holes exist that can help your business avoid various tax issues by using barter trade exchange. These could be costly if you tacked them directly onto corporate earnings, but bartering can help that. In many countries, corporate earnings are taxed at an absurdly high rate, and bartering can give that company a break, especially if the bartered goods can be implemented into the business.

In addition, companies can utilize bartered goods and use a middle man as a third party in a transaction to turn the aforementioned bartered goods into currency in another market. For example, a car manufacturer may take payment from a company that operates in a transitional economy in the form of fresh produce. The auto maker can then seek out another company interested in this produce and sell it for currency, which will ultimately end up with the auto manufacturer.

An often overlooked resource is barter trade exchange. It may provide a company with access to goods and services it needs in lieu of cash payment. The company may have difficulty in determining the value of the exchange with other participating companies. However, the company retains its cash to use for other needs and meets its current needs.

The Complete Idiot's Guide To Public Speaking, 2E

2012-06-18T03:39:00.000-07:00

A Simple Guide to Public Speaking

By Akhil Shahani

Most of us will probably freeze at the mere thought of making a speech.

Yet, public speaking is one of the key skills that a successful leader needs to

have. Experts will tell you that most people are not born with the gift of the gab;

impressive speakers are made with a little bit of guidance, but mainly through

perseverance! While there are lots of resources devoted to the art of public

speaking, like "Great Speaking Ezine" on here are a few quick tips for someone

who wants to hit the ground running.

Know your audience: The listeners are the most critical element of any speech. Therefore, make the effort to understand your audience. What could you incorporate into your opening remarks, which can set the stage for a lively interaction? For example, is there an issue of general, topical interest that you could mention? Well begun is half done, and if you can start off on a good note, it will give you much needed confidence to face the crowd.

Put into practice: Face it, there's no easy way out. The best way to speak in public is to rehearse the whole exercise beforehand. While you must not memorize your talk word for word, as that will make it sound stilted and unnatural, you should know the flow of your presentation by heart. That will also help you pick up the threads in case there are any interruptions. Remember, it is you who will be speaking on stage, and it is therefore up to you to control the proceedings.

Choose your words carefully: The importance of doing so cannot be overemphasized. Make sure the words you use are appropriate to the situation and the nature of the audience. Coarse slang and obscenities have no place in a public talk. Again, think twice before making any references to issues that might stir up strong emotions, like religion, cultural practices or politics.

Lighten up: Humor is a very powerful and effective tool of public speaking. Not only does it give the audience some relief in the midst of a heavy speech, it also makes the content memorable. You don't need to try too hard to be funny, or go over the top. Use caricatures, anecdotes or even jokes, but make sure that they are relevant and inoffensive.

Spur action: Be clear about the objectives of your speech. Is it aimed at motivating action, solving problems or sparking a discussion? The real impact of public speaking can be gauged in the response it generates among listeners. A sparkling speech is not worth the paper it is printed on if it's forgotten as soon as the audience leaves the room.

Expect the unexpected: If you suddenly find that the audience is not catching on, be prepared to change your talk mid-way. Stop to clarify, or invite questions in between. Also, if you are running out of time, be ready to leave out the less important parts of your presentation. On the other hand, if you have extra time, make sure to utilize it effectively - a Q&A is usually a great way to interact with the listeners.

These were some useful pointers along the path to effective public speaking. No doubt, you want to know a lot more. "Instant Speaking Success", an e-book available at "10 Days to More Confident Public Speaking" and "How to Develop Self-Confidence and Influence People by Public Speaking" from can help you transform into a powerful public speaker.

The Complete Idiot's Guide To Creating A Graphic Novel, 2nd Edition

2012-06-17T19:44:00.000-07:00

How To Write A Graphic Novel

By Dy Loh

There are really many factors to consider when writing a comic strip or a graphic novel. You have to decide on your writing style, drawing style, publishing woes, distribution etc...

It is never an easy ride.

Writing

The best way in this case is to find a partner and pool your talents together. Creating a graphic novel is rarely a one man show. Most importantly, as a WRITER, you must start honing your writing skills and let people critique your work. The more criticisms the better! Look for criticisms and embrace them for they will always spur you on and help you your skills. Do remember that you cannot please everyone.

Publishing

Where do you submit your work after you have completed your grand masterpiece? My website has the resources that shows where exactly to go and what to do.

Here are some useful tips on publishing.

Formatting. In what type of format must you submit your work? What if you have changes? How do you submit cover art, author photos and other information? What about ISBN numbers? You would have to decide on which platform you want to do your work from the very start.

Editing. Are the books edited or proofread and are there fees charged for editing or proofreading? What experience do they have? You might consider using the editing service or hiring a freelance editor to proof your work for you prior to publication. Editing is a must if you want to make sure your first graphic novel goes well.

Promotional Benefits. Does the publisher promote its authors? Does it contact the media for you? Does it have a media contact list or a mailing list where you can announce your book? How does the publisher feature its most recent releases? There is nothing wrong with this approach, but be sure you know what the company policies are so that you are not disappointed.

The Complete Idiot's Guide To Improving Your Credit Score

2012-05-27T18:17:00.000-07:00

Improving Your Credit Score

By Beverley Stern

If you are thinking of improving your credit score, there are steps you can take to do so, but you must be aware that improving credit takes time and there is no easy or quick fix for bad credit. It can be helpful to remember that it took time for you to get into the situation where you have a bad credit score, so it will also take time to get yourself out of this situation. There are many companies out there who claim that they can fix your credit or remove bad credit ratings or negative credit items from your report. It is important for you to know this is false advertising.

The only way to improve your credit score is to follow the guidelines for good credit for a period of time. There is a legal date of expiration after which negative items must be taken off your credit report. There is no shortcut and no way to get these items removed quicker. So what are the ways of improving your credit score? The first is very simple. Just pay your bills on time and in full. This can be difficult and it might require sacrifice, but you must adopt timely and complete bill paying practices in order to establish good credit.

If you can't pay your bills on time for some reason, you should always pay at least the minimum amount due. This will be the least likely to harm your credit score in the long run. Reduce the overall amount of debt that you are in. Be sure you put paying your debt ahead of other things in your life. The sooner your debt is paid, the sooner you'll be able to buy the other things you want and keep the money you are earning, as well as improving your credit rating.

Another thing to remember when you are focused on improving your credit rating is that you should keep your credit card balances low and never go over the credit line. The more you go over the credit line, the worse your credit will be. In general, you want to be very attentive to how you are using your credit. Try not to make too many applications for credit. Applying for a credit card and getting rejected, for instance, can cause a negative mark to show up on your credit. These methods will help you improve your credit.

10 Tips For The Perfect Job Interview

By Gail Kenny

Preparing for a job interview is extremely stressful - there's simply no denying it. The 30 minutes of intense questions and answers will decide the direction your life will take for you, so it's imperative to make it count. At our online travel jobs website, we try to prepare our visitors for their job interviews by giving an insight into what's expected. Nonetheless, having worked in recruitment for over 10 years I have seen the same job interview mistakes occurring time and time again. The good news is that all of them are fixable with a little research and some practice when preparing for a job interview.

In preparing for a job interview, be sure you don't fall into the following 10 traps:

1)Poor presentation or dressing in the wrong way for the tone of the job interview.

Why it may ruin your job interview:

If you don't give the impression that you care about your appearance then you will be judged accordingly - after all, if you don't make the effort when preparing for a job interview, why would you pull your weight for their company if appointed?

How it can be corrected:

Take some time to appear well groomed and professional looking. Although some offices are increasingly less formal with clothes, you don't want to assume it applies to interviewees too, so phone up in advance and enquire about the dress code. If this is impossible, it's best to err on the side of caution and appear overdressed rather than under, for the reason explained above.

2) Nervous job interview body language

Why it may ruin your job interview

If you find yourself fidgeting, slouching or refusing to hold the interviewer's eye contact in the interview, you will come across as lacking in confidence, and no employer will be impressed by someone so timid and awkward around people.

How it can be corrected:

Some nerves are expected and acceptable in a job interview, so don't make yourself more nervous worrying about this one. On the other hand, appearing more confident than a rival candidate with similar ability can give you the edge, so try to seem assertive. Greet your interviewer with a firm handshake, maintain eye contact and stand straight.

3) Not listening at the job interview

Why it may ruin your job interview:

Some people who are worried about their job interview performance actually manage to shoot themselves in the foot by planning too carefully! If you attempt to counter your nerves by planning your responses to potential questions while the interviewer talks you may miss out some valuable information about the work, the questions and any tasks you are to be set.

How it can be corrected:

Just relax, listen and show the interviewer you are hearing their points. Match their style and pace, and they will be aware you are following their lead.

4) Verbal overkill!

Why it may ruin your job interview:

The point of the interview is to find out about you, your aims and your attitude, but if you overdo it, they'll have their answer! This is often a problem with under prepared candidates, who make up for their lack of succinct answers by rambling.

How it can be corrected:

Carefully preparing for a job interview is essential - match the job specifications to your own abilities and be sure to only share relevant information with the interview panel. Listen to yourself talking, and if you feel yourself slipping off the question, then sharply bring yourself back around.

5) Appearing over confident in your job interview

Why it may ruin your job interview:

If there's one thing worse than a timid interview candidate, it's one who's overconfident to the point of arrogance. Nothing can get an interviewer's back up than a candidate's brashness, and it's all too common for this to result in no job offer at the end of the process.

How it can be corrected:

This one is usually the result of reserved candidates going too far the other way, but if it's a personality issue it's quite hard to correct because you may not know you're coming across as brash! While it's important not to play down your achievements, try and be slightly modest about them without ever make them seem easy for just anyone to accomplish.

6) Not maintaining formality in the job interview

Why it may ruin your job interview:

No matter what the tone of the interview, the dynamic remains the same: the interviewer is in control, and you need to be polite and respectful at all times, maintaining the decorum of the situation. Different interviews have varying levels of formality, but even if the interviewer is being casual and informal, don't assume you can relax and behave how you would with your friends - it makes you seem a less serious candidate unaware of the situation.

How it can be corrected:

Try to match the tone your interviewer adopts, but don't step beyond it. If it's a stuffy environment with no room for humour, then don't crack a joke. On the other hand, if they are being deliberately informal to help you relax; show you appreciate the effort by dropping the formality a notch.

7) Answering questions without thinking

How it may ruin your job interview:

If you jump straight in to answer a question without thinking your answer through, you'll end up rambling and, unless you're very good at blagging, you're unlikely to impress the interviewer this way.

How it can be corrected:

It's understandable that you don't want to leave an awkward pause, but most interviewers would rather you take time out to think of an appropriate time you showed the required skills than for you to list any old thing because you're under pressure. Ask if it's okay for you to take a moment to think - don't take too long, but ensure there will be no pointless ramble.

8) Failing to keep your job interview language formal

How it may ruin your job interview:

This one seems obvious, but if you don't keep your language formal and appropriate you may end up causing offence and ensuring that you don't make the impression of an on-the-ball employee.

How it can be corrected:

Don't try and temper this to the degree that you sound forced and insincere, but ensure that there is no slang in your speech, and steer clear of any references to age, politics or religion.

9) Any Questions? No.

How it may ruin your job interview:

It may seem like an innocent question to give you something to say at the end of the interview, but often the "Do you have any questions about the job" enquiry is designed to test your enthusiasm for the role. Unless they've been remarkably detailed in their talking, there's bound to be something to ask - and if you don't and your competitor does, guess who seems more excited about the role!

How it can be corrected:

Listen carefully to everything said in the interview, and if a point appears that you'd like more information about, make a mental note to bring it up later. If they've been incredibly thorough and there's nothing to say, you can either ask about when you'll hear the outcome of the job interview, or turn it into a compliment of how thorough they've been!

10) Candidate seems unnervingly desperate (Employ me, pleeeeease!)

How it may ruin your job interview:

This really is quite understandable, especially if it is your dream job or you're currently unemployed, but unfortunately appearing incredibly needy is a major turn off for employers. It undermines your confidence and makes you seem desperate.

How it can be corrected:

Try to dampen your desperation - appear keen and enthusiastic, but not unnervingly so. Remain cool and calm and let your performance and skills do the talking. Also, make sure you don't follow up your job interview with endless pestering emails and phone calls - it can really undermine the impression you gave the employers.
