Like a Florida Sunset...Orly Terracotta & Nina Pro Evening Sun

I have really been enjoying revisiting my orange & coral untried polishes. Today, I have two more. The first is from one of my favorite brands, Orly. This is Orly Terracotta. It's a coral crelly-cream/jelly with a red undertone. For some reason, it brings to mine lobsters whenever I see it-"a lobster coral red." I have always loved Orlys cream polishes and this one is no different. The application was easy and was fully opaque with 2 coats. While this is an older shade, I have seen it in CVS and Sally Beauty. Terracotta is a "safe color" for someone just stepping into the coral range.

This next polish is one I have owned for years, but again for whatever reason just never wore it. It's so old the bottle has changed since I made this purchase. This is Nina Pro Evening Sun, available exclusively at Sally Beauty. This is a gorgeous burnt orange with a golden shimmer. The golden shimmer in the polish is a great complementary color for the gold/yellow undertone my complexion. In this picture I'm wearing 2 coats, but to have no visible nail line (VNL), I would suggest at least 3 coats. As I mentioned, while this is an older polish and the brand has changed its bottle, the color is still available.

Nina Pro Evening Sun is perfectly named; on my nails and in the bottle, it reminds me of a beach sunset.

Since I won't be vacationing anytime soon, I will be living vicariously through my nail polishes. What are some of your favorite vacation polish shades?

Harvesting Some More Oranges: Pure Ice Twinkle & Wet n Wild Club Tropicana

Yesterday I started a mini-series on some of my favorite oranges, corals, and peachy nail polishes. I've been loving these colors lately and have been trying to go through my untrieds. One thing for certain, I have love all the polishes I have acquired in the past. Not a dud in the bunch yet.

Today I have two more. Let's start with an apricot-peach with a golden shimmer. I purchased Pure Ice Twinkle from Walmart at least 2-3 years ago. The golden micro shimmer just adds something to this polish and it complements any tanned skin, thereby making it perfect for Spring & Summer manicures and pedicures. This is 2 coats and I had no issues with the application. As I mentioned, I purchased this Pure Ice polish from Walmart and the MSRP is $1.97-very budget friendly.

This next polish is one I have also have for at least 2 years. Wet n Wild Club Havana, a dusty orange cream. It was one of the first Megalast polishes I purchased from Walgreens when Wet N Wild first redesigned the Megalast polish line. Notice the "New" label. I don't know why I was hesitant to wear more shades from this brand. I love the colors, the formula and even the brush. Not to mention, the price is very budget friendly at $1.99. Wet n Wild Club Havana, in particular was a bit streaky, but with a little care, application wasn't a big issue.

I hear rumor that there are several new Wet n Wild Megalast polishes being released this Spring/Summer, so I am excited to see what the future shades look like. Have you spotted any of the newer Wet n Wild Megalast polishes yet? NouveauCheap posted earlier this year about the 40+ new shades set to be release and I can wait to see them in person.

Maybe it was all the rain we've been getting lately, or maybe it's just because Spring is finally here, but for whatever the reason, I've been loving oranges and corals lately. Today I'm sharing with you two more of my untrieds. First, Zoya Myrta, from the Surf Collection of 2012. This is an orangey-reddish-coral foil with a golden shimmer. It's a perfect Spring & Summer shade tanned skin. Once again, I am impressed with this Zoya polish and need to add more to my collection. As pictured this is 2 coats.

And to add some more bling to Zoya Myrta, I pulled out China Glaze Mango Madness. This was one of the polishes from the 50 Specialty Collection of 2009. Mango Madness is a mango-coral jelly holographic glitter. While I guess with 4-5 coats you could wear it alone but I layered it over Zoya Myrta. And this was a match made in heaven.
These two colors complement each other perfectly. This is definitely a combination I will be sporting again throughout the warm months and being that I live in Florida, the "warm months" are May-November...UGH!

Of course, the Zoya polishes can be purchased on Zoya.com and the China Glaze Specialty Glitters can still be purchased through several of the online retailers, such as Victoria Nail Supply, 8TY8Beauty, and Head2ToeBeauty.

PRODUCT REVIEW: Mary Kay TimeWise Gel Mask & Eye Cream

Mary Kay is a brand that has been around for 50 years. But because of a less than positive reaction I experienced years ago after attending a Mary Kay party, I avoided the products. Even after my best friend became an Independent Beauty Consultant, I would not use the products. But that was over 25 years ago. Recently, I was offered the opportunity to review some of their newer products. After reading the information provided and asking some additional questions, I decided to give the brand another try. As I've mentioned, the aging time clock is ticking and I won't go down without a fight.

In addition to aging, I suffer with seasonal allergies and oddly, the "season" seems to be getting longer. Mary Kay has recently released some new products that claim to help relieve some of the discomfort associated with seasonal allergies, such as puffy eyes, and dry skin.

I have always had oily to combination-oily, skin but lately I've noticed more dry patches and find lines across my forehead. What the heck?! So the first product I was interested to try was the Mary Kay Moisture-Renewing Gel Mask.

First, their claims:

Combat dryness and brighten complexion.

Cooling mask contains a potent blend of vital skincare essentials, including moisture-loving Sodium Hyaluronate, Vitamins E and B3, and an extract of superfruit Acai Berry
Helps skin feel calm, purified and nourished

Now, my experiences:

Of course, one of my initial concerns was if this would aggravate my oily skin. But it is for dry to oily skin, dermatologist tested & oil-free.
Because of my experience years ago, I did a patch test for a couple days, and after no adverse reaction, I was ready to go full on.
It is recommending that this is used 2-3 times a week, so the first two applications, I tried the "10 minute then rinse method". Since then I have been doing the "overnight" at least once a week. I love the cool, hydrating feel.
Especially after the overnight use, the next morning my skin feels moisturized and I am seeing an improvement of the dryness and fine lines I was seeing on my forehead.

The next product I was interested to try was the Mary Kay TimeWise Repair Eye Renewal Cream. At least for me, one of the first areas that started to show signs of aging was that area around my eyes. With the constant rubbing, watering, itching, and squinting, the area around my eyes takes the most abuse.

Now, their claims:

Soothe puffy eyes on contact
Targets undereye bags, puffiness and dark circles
Unique zamac metal applicator tip gently massages the under eye to help reduce puffiness and provide a fresh, cooling effect

Now, my experiences:

The area around the eye is very delicate and needs to be treated as such. When I'm looking for an eye treatment, I look for a product that is gentle yet effective.
I have been applying this eye cream before my other moisturizers. Once pplied, I use the gentle touch of my ring fingers to pat in the product.
I apply it twice a day and have experienced increased hydration, reduction in the appearance of my fine lines and reduced puffiness in the under-eye area.
I love the cool touch of the applicator. It too, allows for a gentle application. A little trick that I use is to store this product in the refrigerator so that when I apply it, I get an even more intense cool application.

Now for the stats of the products:

PRODUCT REVIEW: Tresemme' Smooth Keratin Shampoo & Conditioner

I wish my hair care life was as easy as my nail care life. I know what works for my nails, but where my hair is concerned, I am truly a product junkie. I'm constantly trying new products, hoping to find that holy grail product that will work miracles for my hair. It's just short of 3 years since I started my healthy hair journey, but during these three years, I have see-sawed between keeping my hair chemically straightened (relaxed) or going natural. Depending of this, my hair reacts differently to my hair care products. So this means that my product closet has, on occasion, over-flowed. I'm almost ashamed to admit, at one time my linen closet looked like a beauty supply store stock room, LOL! I have for the most part calmed down with my purchases, but every so often I will try a new product.

Today's post is a review of the Tresemme' Smooth Keratin Shampoo & Conditioner. I am currently attempting another transition to natural hair so moisture is key for my hair's health and manageability. Tresemme' is a brand that is often talked about in a positive light in the natural hair community. So earlier this year when I saw this new line from Tresemme' I decided to give it a try. As I mentioned my hair responds differently depending its status (relaxed or transitioning). I have used these products a few times so that I could come to a well tested decision.

First, the Tresemme' Keratin Smooth Shampoo. It's a lower sulfate formula. I'm normally not an ingredient snob but, non-sulfate & low sulfate shampoos seems to be the latest hub-bub. So what the heck? I have tried some non-sulfate shampoos, and wasn't overly impressed. But with this "lower sulfate shampoo", I liked that while it lathered as a normal shampoo, it didn't leave my hair feeling stripped. Out of habit, I always do two lathers but even with the first, my hair felt clean yet, again not stripped. Although, I must remember the next time I use this shampoo, that with the second lather, not to use as much product as I do with the first. I had lather overload on my second application. LOL! I can't say that it's has hydrating and moisturizing as some of the conditioning shampoos I've used. There was definitely the need for conditioner when finished.

Ingredients
Water (Aqua), Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Glycerin, Potassium Chloride, Dimethiconol, Fragrance (Parfum), Carbomer, Styrene/Acrylates Copolymer, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, TEA-Dodecylbenzenesulfonate, Glycol Distearate, Citric Acid, Tetrasodium EDTA, DMDM Hydantoin, Hydrolyzed Keratin, PEG-45M, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, PPG-9, Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891).

So after using the Tresemme' Keratin Smooth Shampoo, I went to the Tresemme' Keratin Smooth Conditioner. I applied it as directed, focusing at my mid-length and ends. Then applying it to my roots. Almost immediately after applying the conditioner, I felt my hair softening. However, it didn't have the level of slip that I like. I normally detangle while in the shower, but with this product, detangling wasn't as easy as with my other products. I was tempted to used my normal conditioner but to give a full review of this shampoo & conditioner combination, I did not. I'm not sure if it's because these products are infused with Keratin (a protein), but while not feeling stripped, my hair did not feel as moisturized as I would like. I understand that these products do not claim to be hydrating or moisturizing, but I do expect some level of moisture from the products I use.

Ingredients
Water (Aqua), Cetearyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, Stearamidopropyl, Dimethylamine, Behentrimonium Chloride, Fragrance (Parfum), Dipropylene Glycol, Lactic Acid, Amodimethicone, Potassium Chloride, Disodium EDTA, DMDM Hydantoin, Hydrolyzed Keratin, PEG-7 Propylheptyl Ether, Cetrimonium Chloride, PEG-150 Distearate, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone

So my overall opinion, would I repurchase these products? Probably not the Keratin Smooth collection, but I haven't given up on the Tresemme' brand. I still want to try the Tresemme' Naturals Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner. As I mentioned earlier, I'm currently transitioning so I'm looking for a shampoo & conditioner that is hydrating and moisturizing, while giving me slip to make detangling easy.

What are some of your favorite moisturizing shampoos & conditioners? As I've always said, moisture is key, for healthy nails and hair.

Host of Holos: Layla Hologram Effects Swatches

It was about this same time last year that I first saw this brand, it was love at first sight. Layla Cosmetics Hologram Effect Nail Polishes...OMG!!! While I have been loving nail polishes for decades, it was really only in the last 3-4 years that I started collecting them. So I missed out on the earlier collections like China Glaze OMG, Nfu-Oh and OPI DS. The first full holo collection that I was able to acquire was the China Glaze Tronica collection. While there have been other holo collections, not many have the strong holo effect of the earlier brands. So when I encountered the Layla Hologram Effect, I knew I had to own at least some of them. During the Spring of 2012, Ulta and Ulta.com was the best place to purchase them and you can believe I did.

I purchased 5 of the collection. They are the following:

Layla Coral Glam: not that I would ever consider my skin tone "coral", but for me, this is an excellent neutral with a little bling. I would definitely consider this "office safe". I am only wearing 2 coats here, but I would absolutely go for 3-4 coats next time.

Another shade I purchased was Layla Retro Pink. It's a mid-pink, but not too "in your face". Definitely one that needed to be in my collection.

Of course there would be a purple in my shopping bag. Layla Ultra Violet is a gorgeous mid-range purple. The linear holo effect was very evident.

Layla Mermaid Spell is another must have. Truth be told all of the collection are "must haves". Anyway, Mermaid Spell is an absolutely gorgeous light blue-green. Of the five I own this is probably my number 2...can you guess #1? As with all of these polishes, I used 2 coats, but with future manicures I will go for 3-4 coats. Since this line is fast drying that won't be an issue.

That's right, my favorite of this Layla Holo haul is Layla Ocean Rush. Look at this blue. What can I say? Photos don't even do it justice. There was no question that I would own this. A Blue Holo? Hello! This blue has a turquoise undertone but is definitely blue.

As with most holographic nail polishes, there is some sort of care that needs to be taken with their application-an aqua base coat or a specialty buffer. While I do own an aqua base coat and a holo specialty buffer, in these applications, I wanted to try them with just a normal fine grit buffer. I also allowed each coat to dry so that I would experience any dragging as is often the case with holo polishes.

Layla Cosmetics suggests the use of their 2-sided emery board. In addition, they provide these instructions for optimal application:

HOW HOLOGRAM EFFECTS WORKS:

1. On clean bare nails, take the Layla 2-sided emery board marked ‘side 1’ and rub all over the nail.

2. Immediately buff the nails with ‘side 2’ and a glossy base coat will appear.

3. Apply one full coat of Hologram Effect nail polish onto the nail. Wait a couple of seconds to add the second coat.

4. Apply Top Coat.

Layla Cosmetics Hologram Effect’s fast drying, high coverage polish will last 1 week. The revolutionary formula will not stain the nail and is free of toluene, camphor, formaldehyde and DBP. Choose from 8 intense colors to produce holographic nail art at your fingertips: Mercury Twilight, Coral Glam, Retro Pink, Ultra Violet, Jade Groove, Mermaid Spell, Ocean Rush and Flash Black.

While I purchased mine from Ulta.com, I recently checked and did not see the brand listed on their website. Layla is still available at Zappos.com and Aveyou.com. So if you are a holo-aholic such as myself, you need to add some of these to your collection. What are some of your favorite holographic brands?

TUTORIAL: Color Club Patchwork Manicure

Not too long ago, I posted a quick manicure I did while playing with my Color Club Halo Hues from the 2012 collection. I had a few people ask for a tutorial so I thought I would do a post explaining this really simple nail art.

First, I lined up my 2012 Color Club Halo Hues. I believe that this would work with most holographic polishes, whereas polishes like creams, would have a different effect. It's the effect of the holographic polish that plays tricks on your eyes and adds to the overall look of the manicure.

I took my first polish, Cherubic and applied 1 decent coat, not too thick but thick enough to get full coverage. Let it dry. Since I will be overlapping other polishes, I don't want the colors to mingle on the brushes.

Next line up the other polishes, I alternated with Blue Heaven, Cloud Nine, Angel Kiss and Halo-Graphic.

This really is a very simple manicure. I have added this diagram to show how I applied the polishes. Base Color, another color diagonal across, and the third color down one half of the nail. That's it. I am not one for complicated and detailed nail art. It's all smokin' mirrors. LOL!

When applying the diagonal colors, again it's just one coat. If the coats are too thick they won't "bleed through" to give you the same effect. Just remember the colors you use on the diagonal, Left to Right, use in the reverse order on the vertical line. (1-2-3-4, 4-3-2-1).
Once the diagonal color has dried to the touch, it's time to apply the vertical color. Again, just one thin coat. Again, remember, 1-2-3-4, 4-3-2-1. And that's it!

As you can see, by not applying the colors too thick they appear to "bleed through" each layer; giving you a rainbow holographic effect.

I hope you like this and I hope that for those who requested a tutorial, that this was helpful. I love holographic polishes and Color Club has some of the best. What are some of your favorite holographic polishes?

Glitter Galore: Pure Ice Viva Las Vegas with Pure Ice Playtime (Bare It All)

To me, there's something about today's manicures that just scream elegant! Maybe it's the descriptive I'm using, it a "Champagne Gold". Today I'm sharing with you two more from Pure Ice. The first is Pure Ice Viva Las Vegas. I have other gold nail polishes but this one is classic and elegant. I could certainly see this on a Red Carpet.

Pure Ice is a brand sold at Walmart for less than $2.00 a bottle. When I first started purchasing Pure Ice polishes, it was for their layering polishes. Some of their earlier polishes were just gorgeous for layering. They could definitely add to a manicure and Pure Ice is still one of my favorite brands.

This Champagne Gold shimmer polish has a taupe undertone and is another that gives me with my skintone a mannequin hand effect. Here I am wearing 2 coats but to avoid visible nail lines, I would suggest 3 coats. Pure Ice Viva Las Vegas is a great shade to have in any polish collection.

While Pure Ice Viva Las Vegas can stand on its own, I felt the need to add some bling. So to it, I layered another Pure Ice, but this time a glitter, Pure Ice Playtime; which has been re-released as Bare It All. Bare It All is described as an "ultra-fine, dense gold and copper glitter". While I ready owned Playtime, I received a bottle of Pure It Bare It All for review. Since I already own one, I'll add this to my Giveaway Stash.

This is another polish that I would describe as "elegant". I've been going through a glitter phase lately and some glitters can be "in your face". However this Pure Ice Bare It All has a stylish and chic look. Again, this manicure just brings visions of a gold formal dress with the matching shoes and gold beaded clutch. If ever I'm presented that opportunity, at least I have the manicure ready.

Zoya Blues: Skylar, Crystal, Noel, Charla, & Zuza

I've been going through my untried nail polishes and recently used Zoya Zuza. I fell in love. The application, formulation, color pigmentation, and brush head all were great to work with. I remember back to when I started my blog, I asked if Zoya was worth all the hype. I still remember the day I purchased my first Zoya polish, Dita. Anyway, I have since purchased several other Zoya polishes but like many of my polishes, they went untried for long periods of time. Well today, I'm sharing with you some of my Zoya blue polishes. If you have followed by blog you should not be surprised that I would start with blue polishes.

So let's get started. First is this light denim blue polish is Zoya Skylar. It was part of the Zoya Spring, 2012 True Collection. It contains silver and gold glass flecks. I love the finish, while there are the glass flecks, its not bold or "in your face" like some flecks. I really don't have any others in my collection like this polish. Here, I am wearing 2 coats.

Next, is a polish that most polish and/or Zoya collectors own, Zoya Crystal. This was part of the Winter 2010 Flame Collection. It is a gorgeous blue metallic foil with gold flecks. I need to get an extra for a Crystal I know. The only polish I have that is even kinda similar is OPI Absolutely Alice, but while the coloring is similar, the finish is definitely different. I hear rumor that there was an earlier OPI shade that was a dupe, OPI Reflecting Pool, but that was released long before I started collecting and blogging about nail polish.

This next, is a polish I purchased is from the 2011 Holiday Gems & Jewels Collection - Zoya Noel. Noel is another denim blue foil. It looks to be like the base of the above Crystal before they added the flecks. Has pictured I used 2 coats. As with most of the Zoya polishes I tried thus far, the application was smooth with not streaking. I will admit that since Noel is a metallic, you do need to use some care if you are concerned about brushstrokes.

This next polish as one of my all-time favorites and I can see why there are so many attempts at dupes. Zoya Charla, from the Summer, 2010 Sparkle collection, is a gorgeous blue-green, fleck-filled, metallic polish that has been copied by just about every polish brand. It looks like a Caribbean ocean in a bottle. Pictured, I'm wearing 2 coats.

There is something about Zoya Charla. I am instinctively drawn to similar shades. Without even realizing it, I have purchased and continue to purchase similar polishes. From my stash, I have found 7 different polishes that fall into this same color family. And I know that there are others. I never did get OPI Catch Me In Your Net-another Charla dupe.

And lastly, for now, is Zoya Zuza. I recently posted this manicure but wanted to include it with my other Zoya blues. Zuza was released last year as part of the Zoya Beach and Surf collection. This teal-aqua blue applied smoothly and with no issues.

Well those are all my Zoya blue polishes for now. I have a shopping list for future purchases. I know I just missed their annual Green promotion, but that is another great thing about Zoya, they have several promotions throughout the year. So eventually, Song, Tart, Tallulah, Jo, Indigo, along with some others will be part of my collection. What are some of your favorite Zoya polishes?

Salon Perfect: Sweet Melon, Pink Mystique, & a reminder...

Today's manicures are from a brand I have blogged about recently. Today I am sharing with you two more from the Salon Perfect brand. I really wanted to share these with you because my most recent blog post on Salon Perfect was about a giveaway. So I wanted to allow you another look at some of the Salon Perfect polishes. These are two more that I purchased during the Walmart trip I discussed in my April 24th post.

First, I have Salon Perfect Sweet Melon. That name is a good fit. Sweet Melon is a pinky-melon cream-jelly-"Crelly", as my nail blogger friend, Rhonda of Nails Beautiqued has coined this finish. I was able to obtain a fully opaque application with 2 coats. The formulation was smooth and had an almost self-leveling ability. This is a great summer color without being too bold.

Next, I have Salon Perfect Pink Mystique. As I have mentioned in a previous post, many of the Salon Perfect nail lacquers are very similar to the China Glaze nail lacquers. Well Salon Perfect Pink Mystique is very similar to China Glaze Strawberry Fields. This polish is a berry pink with a gold glass flecks. I love this shade and definitely say that if you missed out on Strawberry Fields, get this one. Here I'm showing it with 2 coats, but probably should have went for 3.

Glitter Galore: Sinful Color Diamond Lust Collection - Shine On Me layered with Pure Ice Free Fall

Well today, I'm sharing with you the last of the Sinful Colors Diamond Lust Glitter Polishes that I purchased. There were 8 polishes in the collection, but I only purchased 6. The last two were just two similar to polishes already in my stash. Now on to this last glitter, I won't say that I saved my least favorite for last, I'll just say that Sinful Colors Shine On Me took the most effort to work with. It appears to be a very sparse chunky glitter. There are micro, mid-sized and larger diamond-shaped holographic glitters. Looking at Shine On Me closely, it's probably just as packed as the others, it's just that the micro glitter in Shine On Me is a holo-clear. So with that being the case you only see the colored mid and diamond glitters, thereby making it appear sparse.

I decided to pull one of the untrieds, Pure Ice Free Fall, from my stash to use as a undercoat. Free Fall is a bright, fluorescent pink shimmer. That is one of the things I like about the Pure Ice brand, while the initial reason I started buying their polishes was for their layering shades, they really do make some great opaque shades that are perfect for undercoats. This is 2 coats. I will still need to do another manicure with Free Fall standing on its own.

Layered over Pure Ice Free Fall I placed Sinful Colors Shine On Me. As I mentioned about, the micro glitters are holo-clear, so all you really see are the mid-sized and diamond glitters. This is another case of me having to "place" the larger glitters to achieve a somewhat even look.

Well I have enjoyed this collection and it has sparked a glitter bug in me. So you can be assured that there will be other glitter manicures in the very near future. I hope you found these posts helpful and maybe even generated some glitter love. So if asked, which were my favorites? Glitter Galore: Sinful Color Diamond Lust Collection - Scene Stealer layered with Zoya Kimber

Today, I have the fifth in my Sinful Colors Diamond Lust series. Lately, I've really become obsessed with glitters. For the longest, I said that I really didn't like glitters, but something has changed. Now I am buying them up like crazy.

First, I needed to decide on a base to layer with today's glitter. Lately, I've also been wow'd by the Zoya polishes in my stash. I had purchased them throughout the year but often didn't get around to wearing them. The polish I chose to layer was Zoya Kimber. I remember when this polish came out with the Beach & Surf Collection last year. That was a beautiful collection. I ended up buying like 7 of the 12. Kimber is a warm-toned raspberry magenta pink with a golden shimmer. I obtain full opacity with two coats. I don't think I have anything similar to Kimber in my stash. It really complements my skin-tone. I am starting to understand the love so many have for the Zoya brand.

With Zoya Kimber, I layered from the latest Sinful Colors Diamond Lust collection, Scene Stealer. Scene Stealer is in a clear base, magenta and peach micro glitters with pink holographic diamond glitters. The diamond glitters are kinda sparse, so you need to "place" them to get good coverage. The method that I am finding most effective for me is to drag the brush on the inside of the neck of the bottle and "pick-up" the chunkier glitter to be placed.

Zoya Kimber and Sinful Colors Scene Stealer is another good combination. I have one more of the Sinful Colors Diamond Lust Glitters to share with you. Have you purchased any of them yet, and if so, what are you combining them with? I could always use other suggetions.

Glitter Galore: Sinful Color Diamond Lust Collection - Gemtastic layered with China Glaze Sky High Top

So far, I have shared with you 3 of the glitters from the Sinful Colors Diamond Lust Collection. Today, is number 4 and it's one that should come as no surprise. Gemtastic, is a bright blue glitter. It's in a clear based with blue bar, micro and larger glitters. Because of the clear base, I would never try to apply this to its full opacity. So that means I needed to decide on a base color.

I decided to wear Sinful Colors Gemtastic with a favorite from the 2009 Kicks Collection. I chose China Glaze Sky High Top-a bright mid-blue that has a slight silver shimmer. Depending on the lighting, I sometimes see a teal shimmer. This is just a great blue, even if worn alone.

So to China Glaze Sky High Top, I added Sinful Colors Gemtastic. This is another great combination. The application required a little "placing" of the glitters but it wasn't the worse. Gemtastc is a polish that I'm happy to own.

I have tons of blue polishes so I can't wait to find other complimentary shades of blue as well as other colors. Have you had a chance to try any of the Diamond Lust collection yet? Which are your favorites?

I know that it has been a really long time since I've done a Favorites blog post and as I have been really trying to pick up my blogging game, I thought that now would be a great time to start doing Favorite posts again. So here are my April, 2013 Favorites.

Nivea Touch of Renewal Lathering Body Scrub - (received for review purposes), It's no secret that I love exfoliants & scrubs. I look forward to my DIY Spa Nights. So any opportunity to try a new scrub, I'm all for it. Several months ago, I was sent a Nivea review package and one of the first products I tried was this Lathering Body Scrub. Most often I scrub on dry skin, but with this as it's a "Lathering Body Scrub", I used it as a body wash. It's moisturizing, gentle enough for daily use, and the scent is AMAZING! I have already purchased a replacement with my own money. I hear rumor that some stores are going to stop carrying this product, so I need to stock-up. I bought mine at Walgreens, but you should also be able to find it at most drugstores (Walgreens, CVS, Rite-Aid, etc.) and mass-marketers (Walmart, & Target). Online, Drugstore.com has it available. MSRP averages $6.

Dickinson's Pore Perfecting Toner - (purchased by me). I grew up in the era that taught that toners weren't working unless they sting or burn. Well we have come to learn that is not true. Witch Hazel has been around for decades and one of it uses has been for skin care. This toner helps to cleanse your skin without stripping it of its natural oils and moisture. After I cleanse my face, I apply it with a cotton round to remove all traces of makeup. It's gentle enough for daily use and all skin types. This product is 100% natural and for those who are concerned, it's vegan. It can be purchased as most drugstores and mass-marketers, as well as online. MSRP average $6.

O'pro Organic Protein Leave in Conditioner Detangler - (purchased by me). It depends on the day of the week. Somedays I'm transitioning to natural, somedays, I'm texlaxed, but whatever the status of my hair, it loves this leave-in/detanger. I stumbled across this product one day while in Marshall's and decided to give it a try. The first couple of uses was ehh, but now, I absolutely love it. Whether my hair is freshly texlaxed or months into a stretch my hair detangles easily and is super soft. My only concern is its availability. I've only seen it in Marshall's but no other stores. Amazon is my other option. But whatever the case, this is a hair staple. At Marshall's I paid $6.99. Online I see it priced between $7 and $12 dollars. I will need to stock up when I find the best price.

Nail Life Nail Revitalizer - (purchased by me). I have been using this product as a nail treatment for years, long before I started blogging about nails and nail care. I may have change cuticle remover, polish remover, top coat, and hand cream, but this is the one product that you will always find in my nail care stash. For 98% of my manicures, I start with this product. It's for treating soft, weak, splitting and peeling nails. I use it to help maintain my healthy nails. I see that Sally Beauty has it on sale for 2 for $11 for the month of May. The regular coat is $7.99 each. The only place I've ever seen it for retail is Sally Beauty.

Sedona Lace Pointed Crease Brush (EB15) - (purchased by me). Ever since I purchased the Sedona Lace Vortex Brush set, my favor brush out of the set has been this brush. It is ideal for getting color into my crease and helps with my smokey eye look. When purchased the set the brushes were sold individually, but now that they are, I will be getting at least a couple more. Individually they sell for $8.95.

Sara Happ Peppermint Lip Scrub - (received for review purposes). When I received this product, I had just finished up the lip scrub I loved. Unfortunately, it had been discontinued, so this came just on time. But I was still skeptical, because my former lip scrub had been my favorite for years. I have used this for several weeks and love it. It's granule size is perfect to sloth away dead, dry, flaky skin. Leaving my lips soft and supple. I really like the cooling effect of the peppermint and want to try some of the other flavors-brown sugar, blood orange pink grapefruit and red velvet. The MSRP is $24. This product can be purchased on the Sarahapp.com as well as Nordstrom and several online websites.

RoC® RETINOL CORREXION® MAX Wrinkle Resurfacing System - (received for review purposes). I have been using this system for several months and have even replaced it with my own money. At 47 years of age, I am fighting signs of aging with everything in me. As we age, retinol is an important step that needs to be added to your skincare regimen. I will admit, it is a bit pricey for a drugstore product, MSRP $30, so I normally restock when I find it on sale. Just so happens, Walgreens will have the RoC® line of products on sale next week B1G1 50% off (5/5/2013-5/11/2013). But the RoC® line of products are available at most drugstores and mass retailers (Target, Walmart, etc.)

Gourmet Club Silicone Pot Holder and Trivet - (purchased by me). We all have seen or at least heard about the Silicone Makeup Brush Glove the Sigma Beauty released earlier this year. The concept was wonderful but it came with a $40 price tag. I found this silicone pot holder in Walmart and it worked wonders to clean my brushes. Bigelow Half & Half Tea & Lemonade - (purchased by me). Living in the South, it is very common to drink Iced Tea or Lemonade. Another drink often available is called an "Arnold Palmer". It is an Ice Tea & Lemonade combination. I would often purchased prepared Iced Tea and Lemonade from my grocery store and mix the two. A few months ago, I came across these tea bags. Perfect. Not only are very good, they are low in calorie. They claim to be naturally sweetened and that very well may be true, but I still add an artificial sweetener. When prepared as instructed, an 8 oz serving is only 15 calories. I have purchased at least 7 or 8 boxes since first finding it. My grocery store sells the single box for $3.19. Each box has 6 family-sized tea bags.

Glitter Galore: Barielle Bling-Purple Hearts & Starchild

Recently, I was given the opportunity to review some of the Barielle Nail Lacquers and Nail products. I was excited because I have always thought of Barielle as a high-end, high quality brand. This may sound odd, but I still remember the sense of pride I felt when I purchased my first Barielle nail lacquer.

So being that I am currently going through a serious glitter craze, two of the polishes I selected were Barielle's Purple Hearts and Starchild.

Purple Hearts

Barielle Purple Hearts is a gorgeous clear based glitter with purple, silver, & holo glitters in addition to larger purple hexagonals. The glitters are densely packed so the application was easier than many glitters I have dealt with. There was not need to "place" the glitters.

Purple Hearts is great for layering. You are only limited by your creativity. The first base I chose was the vibrant royal purple-China Glaze Creative Fantasy. I love how the holo glitters pop with this manicure combination.

Another color combination I decided to try was a lighter pale purple to show all the detail of the Barielle Purple Hearts; for that, I chose China Glaze Sweet Hook. With this lighter base, the micro glitters are more evident and the ease of application is understandable. You can see the even spread of the glitters.

Starchild

The next glitter I chose was Barielle Starchild. It's an absolutely gorgeous silver, densely packed, holographic glitter, with both micro and hexagonal glitters. I have seen many other holo glitters, but this has an awesome holo effect.

So far, I am loving the Barielle glitters. They spread evenly and don't require placing the glitters, like so many of the other glitters need. Starchild will complement any base color. But one of the first colors I selected was China Glaze Grape Juice. This darker base, helped to bring out the various particles in Barielle Starchild. Whether I was using flash lighting or natural light, the holographic glitters popped!

The last for this post I decided to combine with Barielle Starchild is a silver base. I chose Nfu-Oh 61 (silver holographic). This combination was one of those I just couldn't stop staring at. I realize that it is just May 3rd, but I have already claimed this as a New Years Eve manicure. This very well may be my favorite silver holograpic glitter. It will definitely need to do a comparison of those that I own.

Barielle is a brand that I have been aware of for many years, and I prior to this opportunity, I did own a couple shades. I look forward to wearing the other Barielle polishes now in my collection. As I mentioned earlier, I still remember the first Barielle I purchased-Berry Blue, big surprise! I just wish they were more readily available. For me, products like nail polish are those that I like to see in person. What are some of your favorite Barielle Nail Lacquers and/or Nail Products?

REVIEW: China Glaze Texture Collection Swatches

The most recent collection released by China Glaze is its Texture Collection, - "a unique new lacquer that applies as a crème but dries with a 3D texture effect". Many of the other nail polish brands are also releasing similar finishes-Zoya, Milani, Sally Hansen, etc. I must admit that I was hesitant when I first heard of the collection, because I prefer a smooth finish to my manicures. But I recently received the China Glaze Texture collection to review and surprisingly, I am liking this. It is different but fun.

The application and formulation of the entire collection was pretty consistent. A bit more watery than the other China Glaze polishes I have used. I found that application worked best by applying 2 very thin layers-not loading up the brush when polishing my nails. Also, I didn't know what to expect from these polishes, but they removed easily, not like a glitter polish, dried fairly quickly, and very important, did not stain.

There are 6 polishes in this collection:

Unrefined — I call it a blue-based bubblegum pink.

Unrefined — described as a "bright pink with textured grit"

Bump & Grind — I would call it a Watermelon.

Bump & Grind— described as a "hot pinkish-red with textured grit"

Itty, Bitty, & Gritty — a pretty coral-melon

Itty, Bitty & Gritty— described as a "melon with textured grit"

Toe-Tally Textured — a Mango orange which is one of my top two favorites

Toe-tally Textured— described as a "tangerine-orange with textured grit"

In The Rough — is a honeydew melon green

In The Rough — described as a "light lime-green with textured grit"

Of Course! Of course, if you've read any of my previous posts, you would know that this blue would be my favorite in the collection. It's a beautiful cornflower blue.

Of Coarse!— "bright, cobalt-blue with textured grit"

While I have not seen any of the Zoya Pixie Dust polishes in person, it is my understanding that they have a slight sparkle to their finish. This made me wonder what would this China Glaze Texture look like with China Glaze Fairy Dust applied as a top coat? So I gave it a go. It loses its textured effect but still pretty. China Glaze Fairy Dust is like chocolate, it makes everything better. LOL!

Glitter Galore: Sinful Color Diamond Lust Collection - Queen Of Deco layered with Pure Ice New Lilac

I've been sharing with you the polishes I purchased from the Sinful Colors Diamond Lust Collection. As you may remember, the Diamond Lush collection is described as an "Intense 3D effects for the ultimate bling". So far, I have really enjoyed each of these polishes that I have purchased. They have initiated a love of glitters.

The next in that collection that I have to share with you is a lilac purple combination. So first I had to decide on what base I wanted to use. Another Pure Ice polish in my stash was ideal. I chose Pure Ice New Lilac, a lilac frost. I'm normally not a big fan of frost polishes but this a great complement for today's glitter-Sinful Colors Queen of Deco.

Pure Ice New Lilac is a very Spring appropriate pastel lilac frost. As with most frost polishes, it gave me some challenges with brushstrokes but being that I was layering this polish, no big deal. If I were to wear this alone, I would just need to take more care during the application process. I don't think Pure Ice polishes get as much love as they should. They have some really great colors AND they are only $1.97 at Walmart.

To the Pure Ice New Lilac I layered Sinful Colors Queen of Deco. Queen of Deco is a clear base with micro purple and silver glitter. It also has purple holographic diamond shaped glitters mixed throughout. The application was like most chunky glitters; the larger diamond-glitters needed to be placed for an even application.

I need to go through my polish collection and choose some other polishes to layer with Sinful Colors Queen Of Deco. What colors would you suggest?
