We're in a special position right now regarding cats and litterboxes. Our old cat, Tigra, has "ruled" our house for about 11 years now. She'll be 14 in August, and she's very "set in her ways," as are most older cats who've been the only cat -- in her case the only pet! -- in the house. But a couple of months ago, Tigra discovered she was sharing her house with a new cat -- 7- or 8-year-old Dot, a cuddly smaller female cat who belongs to our daughter.

Because of a housing remodeling project, daughter and hubby are living in his mom's house, but Dot had no where she could go. "Grandpa" and "grandma" (my wife and I) came to Dot's rescue.

We live in a two-story house, with no one now using the upstairs. In fact, there is almost no heat up there. So Dot moved into our daughter's old bedroom. Along with Dot came her own covered litterbox. Which brings me to the point of all this.

My point is this: Thank God for separate litterboxes, because Dot and Tigra simply DO NOT get along and play well together. I cannot imagine how we would work things out without separate litterboxes.

Of course, from Dot's point of view I suspect her litterbox not only reassures here and gives her a feeling of home, it also provides a shelter for her when she's having a bad day. In the few days she was without a home before we took her in, Dot spent some time with a my daughter's friend who had a large family and three other cats (I think). Her kids and the aggressive cats just overwhelmed poor Dot -- and the woman either thought Dot's litterbox was not necessary or decided she didn't want to bother with it, so Dot was forced to try to share a litterbox with the hostile cats.

Can you see why Shirley and I were quick to offer Dot a temporary home??

Dot's our "upstairs kitty" now, and Tigra our "downstairs kitty." We make frequent visits to Dot's area and give her run of two rooms, a long hallway, a couple of windows, and even the upstairs bathroom.

It's not the greatest arrangement, but the two cats fought mightily the two times we tried to carefully introduce them to each other. As things go now, we've got just over two months, then Dot will have her home and family back. Meanwhile, we're very thankful for two good, SEPARATE litterboxes!

Some months ago, perhaps more than a year ago, I set up a script that was supposed to show pet videos. What I just discovered is that deeper into that pet video site, the script was showing YouTube videos of Arab dancing girls, India rock videos, and all sorts of rap videos.

A few days ago, my server crashed repeatedly because people were overwhelming it searching for those dancing/rapping/music videos. So I removed that script completely.

Please do not use the search function to look for those videos. They are GONE.

This was intended to be a pet related site for pet lovers -- hence the name, "For Pets and Pet Lovers."
