Changes. Always changes. I have said that many times through the years, but this one, well, it’s the biggest one yet. As of last week, I am no longer working in the paper crafting industry, due to lay offs. For over 12 years I have been working for manufacturers, designing projects, taking photos, filming video tutorials, and more. I was published over 500 times nationally and internationally in print. 8 book and magazine covers. Became a contributing editor to Paper Crafts Magazine. Then I moved into designing the stamps, papers, and dies that I had been using for years. It has been my job, but my joy, my passion, sometimes my heartache. It has been where I have met my dearest friends. What a privilege it has all been!

Over the past few months, I have fully immersed myself in a new direction. Before I had only dabbled, but now, I know this is my next path. My next adventure. Surface pattern design is my next dream. Surface pattern design is the artwork you see on everything. From sheets to curtains. From dresses to gift wrap. It surrounds us. And it is a new challenge that has helped me find my spark of excitement and bring my creative energy back.

I have not shared much of my journey here, because honestly, I was afraid. Afraid to lose followers. That’s ridiculous. This is who I am. This is authentically me. And I am ok with me and where I am headed. My sweet friends and community on my instagram account have been so loving and supporting. They shared in my secret. In my dream. And their encouragement is why I am making the move to publicly share.

This is scary. So scary. Yet thrilling. Putting myself out there is not comfortable for me. But I am putting myself out there for my goals. I hope you will continue to follow along. I promise to share. To continue to post beautiful images. Thank you my friends.

What you are seeing in this post is the very first collection I have ever designed called,

Farmers Market Flowers. After taking an intense, online course on surface pattern design over the last couple of months, I am tackling this new dream, this new goal, this new brand, head on! It completely amazes me that I could create artwork like this! The entire process has been so very exciting and thrilling!

My ultimate goal is to have my artwork be licensed. Either by a fabric company, a paper company, or anyone who just loves what I have created.

To begin with, my work will be available for purchase in the Spoonflower shop. Spoonflower is an incredible shop full of fabrics designed by people from all over the world. If you can dream it up, it is probably there!

Spoonflower allows you to purchase fabric in 8x8 swatches, fat quarters, or yardage. You can also choose which fabric type you want as well. There are over 20 different types of fabrics!

Creating these mock-up images allows you and me to see how the designs look on fabric. Best part is, this past week, I got all my real fabric samples and now they are ALL available for purchase!

When designing a collection, there are usually 2 color ways, or 2 different color palettes. Because I fell in love with a couple of the different results, I ended up with quite a few designs! This second cooler color way is called Farmers Market Flowers-Anemone.

This color way is called Farmers Market Flowers-Midday.

Again, you can get a good look at the fabrics. If you are not interested in purchasing fabrics, but love the designs. Spoonflower has a sister site called The Roostery. The Roostery has all of my designs put onto home decor items. Bedding, table wear, pillows, and more!

Vintage Lilacs and Shiplap - New Collection available at Society6

Happy spring my friends! Finally! The weather here has been so cold and rainy, but we have finally broken through and are enjoying sunshine, breezes, and flowers! My lilacs bloomed yesterday, so I picked a huge bouquet of them and brought them in the house for a little photo shoot. Because, that's what I love to do! After placing the lilacs on both a white shiplap background and a dark barn wood background, I was in love with the images! And you all were too, based on all the love I got on social media! So I decided to edit the photos up a bit and place them on new products in my Society6 shop!

I want you to be able to bring the reminder of spring and the sweet, fragrant scent of lilacs to your home!

The second look. I love the white shiplap background and then I added a watercolor effect. So dreamy! I am certain it is the romantic in me. Its probably from watching Anne of Green Gables waaaay to many times!

Back to the barn wood and a deeper watercolor effect. Again, so dreamy!

Beautiful Paper Flowers for Mother's Day

Getting flowers for mom for Mother's Day is going to be a bit tougher this year. So to make it easier, I created these beautiful paper roses with the We R Memory Circle and Spin tool and beautiful papers from DCWV called Petal Paper. While these papers are specially made, you could follow the tutorial below and create these flowers with tissue paper, patterned paper, and even card stock. You know what, even magazine or newsprint would work too!

Start by placing your paper inside the Circle Spin and Trim tool. Cut a circle. The larger you made your circle, the larger your flower will be.

The Circle Spin and Trim tool has two blades stored in the top. (Love that!) Twist the blade into the slot that corresponds to the size you wish to cut. Place the paper inside, close the lid, and turn the knob. You will need to hold the tool down, like any other cutting tool.

Using a scissors, cut a spiral from your circle. Cut off the end to square it up, and trim up any other wonky edges that might appear.

Begin rolling the paper, starting from the outside and working your way in. Use your fingers to help keep the bottom paper level. The top is not a concern, as it spreads out, it will create more realistic looking petals.

Stop rolling once you reach the circle in the center of your paper.

Put glue on the bottom of your rolled up paper. I find that a sticky craft glue works best.

Place the glue down into the circle left at the center of your paper. Hold in place for a few moments. And also, allow the roll of paper to loosen up slightly, once again, creating a flower that looks more real.

You can manipulate the paper how you see fit. Especially when working with a wet glue. There is time to arrange the paper as you see fit.

Make as many flowers as you desire. Don't forget to cut out some leaves from paper as well. They can also be folded and bent to add a realistic look.

Surprise mom with flowers for Mother's Day. No need to tell her how easy they were to make, all she will see is how beautiful they are!

Thank you card with a gift card pocket - We R Memory Keepers Pocket Punch Board

There are SO many people who deserve our thanks these days. So many people who need our support as we live in unprecedented days. I pray that you are safe, and healthy. Hugs to each of you as we all face stress and fears. I hope that you find ways to make yourself happy. Usually finding a way to help someone out, or to spread cheer fills my heart up. Making cards is definitely one bright spot in my days!

Because people need our thanks, I thought it would be fun to make a card that can hold a gift card. Using the Pocket Punch Board from We R Memory Keepers made it easy. I love when my design team assignments turn into a great project to use immediately!

Die Cutting and Embossing with the We R Memory Keepers Revolution

Die cutting and embossing are my two favorite card-making techniques! And while I love using them for cards, they are also awesome for scrapbook layouts as well! We R Memory Keepers has a new manual die cutting machine out called the Revolution. It is really smooth and creates clean cuts and deep embosses!

The plates and platform are so easy to use. The base is also magnetic, making it easy to keep your dies in place while passing everything through the machine.

Its wonderful for me as a beginner because I can learn how designs look best and not worry about the rest. I earn a small commission on every yard that is ordered.

Emboss Resist with the We R Memory Keepers Glue Quill

You all know that We R Memory Keepers has the Foil Quill for your digital die cutting machine. Where it makes the beautiful foil images on your projects. But did you know there is also a Glue Quill? Oh yeah, its pretty awesome! You can have images drawn onto your paper for things like glitter and embossing powder. Imagine the possibilities not only for your cards, but also your scrapbook layouts!

For my design team project, I used the Glue Quill in my Silhouette. After laying out these beautiful flowers for a piece of 12x12 paper, I sent the image to my Silhouette using the sketch feature and it drew the entire page of images!

The glue has a wonderful blue tint that helps you see it. What really impressed me was the fact that the glue did not dry out, even after all that drawing! (I mean, I went and made a quick bite to eat while it was working hard!)

Once the Silhouette was done working, I removed the paper and then sprinkled white embossing powder over the entire page. A small paintbrush helped me remove the excess powder from the page before I heat set the powder. Knowing I would be doing a resist technique, I didn't want any stray powder sections showing through!

Make sure when doing a resist technique that your embossing powder has been completely heat set. You will know it is ready when it goes from matte to shiny.

I trimmed the 12x12 paper down to card panel size. By cutting my pieces to 5.25"x4" I was able to get 6 card panels!

Then I went over each of the panels with watercolor. Look at how fun and bright! You could do this with ink if you do not have watercolors. Simply apply the ink to the surface of the paper. Remember that the embossed surface is resisting, so you will need to wipe the top off if you use ink.

Take a look at March 11. Its Johnny Appleseed Day. I remember that day clearly because at my elementary school, we always celebrated. Each grade had a different way of celebrating, but it was something fun we always did. It makes me think of my teachers and what an influence they have on my life. I am fortunate to still be able to be in contact with many of them, so on that day, I will mail a card or two, simply saying, hey, I was thinking of you today. My cards don't even need to be apple themed, but they could be.

Let's look at March 16, National Panda Day. Newton's Nook, Simon Says Stamp, My Favorite Things, The Ton, and I am sure more, all have adorable panda bear stamp sets. Use the day to inspire some card making with those stamps forgotten in your stash.

Simple Paper Quilling - USB Spinning Tool from We R Memory Keepers

Who needs some sunshine and rainbows in their day today?! Hopefully this project sends some brightness and happiness your way!

For this project for the We R Memory Keepers design team, I used the Spinning Tool. This USB-powered tool has three attachments. One for making pom poms. The second for making tassels. And the last one, shown above, for quilling. Quilling is a form of paper art where you roll paper. There are some incredible artists out there, go and find quilling on Instagram. Seriously. You will be blown away!

When I saw the curled paper, my mind immediately went to clouds. And what goes with clouds? Rainbows of course!

I went waaaay out on the edge and added my own hand lettering to the this one. It was scary for me to put that on a project. But you know what? It looks pretty good. I need to do this more!

Valentine's Day Cards - adding texture with embossing folders

Love is in the air! It is time to start making and sending those Valentine's Day cards! These cards came together in minutes with some great tools from We R Memory Keepers and products from Heidi Swapp!

Using the new We R Memory Keepers manual die cutting machine, the Revolution, I ran some striped patterned paper from Heidi Swapp through the machine in a heart embossing folder.

After I took it out of the embossing folder, I gently sanded the top of the raised surfaces off with 180 grit sand paper. Doing that exposed the white core of the paper and added awesome depth to my texture!

On the paper, I added stickers with sweet words of love.

This peony was hand-drawn and water colored by me last summer. The inspiration for this flower came from a peony I cut from my own garden. This past summer we planted 4 new varieties in our yard. I cannot wait to see them bloom this year! Peonies have long been my favorite flower. My grandparents grew the most beautiful peonies. They truly had green thumbs. I spent many happy hours with them in their gardens.

Over at Mail It Monday, we are striving to get better at sending cards. Because we know what a difference it can make in someone's day to get happy mail! For example, February 9 is National Pizza Day. This brings up a few thoughts for me. Valentine's Day Decor - We R Memory Keepers Fabric Quill

Love is in the air! I have always loved decorating for holidays, and other than Christmas, the most decor I have is for Valentine's Day. Is it because I am 100% a sappy romantic? Probably? That red is my favorite color? Yep. Is it because the heart image has always been one of my favorite icons? Totally!

We R Memory Keepers has some pretty amazing tools out there right now. Using several of them, I was able to create this adorable banner. And honestly, it didn't take me very much time at all! Good tools help make that happen. And I don't know about you, but I sure love sitting down and creating and having everything work well and end up with a successful project!

I began by adding color to my canvas banners with the Cordless Marker Airbrush. Using both pink and orange made an interesting background. I also like how subtle the color ended up being once it dried on the fabric.

Then I used the new Fabric Quill to draw the hearts on each part. Well, I didn't draw them, my Silhouette drew them with a pink marker in the Fabric Quill Kit. The Fabric Quill comes with an adapter for each major digital die cutting machine and markers. It utilizes the pen tool feature of the machine. The results are pretty darn great and I was really impressed!

I grabbed The Works All-In-One Tool to create the tassels. That tool has every possible paper crafting need you could have-all in one tool that is the size of a paper trimmer. One that's been folded in half! I added some punched hearts, letter stickers, and enamel shapes to finish things off. This looks SO cute hanging in our kitchen over the table!

Welcome to 2020! It is a new year, hey, even a new decade and it is time to start working on goals. This year, make your goal about sending more snail mail. Whether it is a card you made or a card you purchased, let The Ultimate Inspiration Calendar for Card-Mailers help inspire you to mail cards.

The goal of this calendar is to encourage you to find reasons to send cards. Each day of the month has a serious, fun, or downright silly celebration attached to it. Use those days to help you create a card, or think of someone in your life who could use a card.

For example January 3 is chocolate covered cherry day. This makes me think of my dad. He loves anything chocolate. I remember when he was excited about Dairy Queen having a chocolate covered cherry Blizzard. They were his favorite. Because I am thinking of my dad, I will send him a card and probably drop a Dairy Queen gift card inside the envelope too. Not only will I send him a little gift, but the story is a wonderful memory and he will know that I was thinking of him. That is a lot of love tucked inside an envelope. Imagine the difference you can make in your world by sending cards?!

For another example, take a look at January 21. Its National Hugging Day. I can think of several stamp and die sets I have with the word "hugs." GinaK has one that pops to mind. On that day I will make a card using those products and send it to someone who has been on my mind. See all the inspiration possibilities?!

Happy New Year! Quick and Easy Party Favors with the We R Memory Keepers Foil Quill

Happy New Year! May 2020 be filled with joy and happiness for you and your family!

One of my all-time favorite treats is Moose Munch from Harry & David's. Especially the dark chocolate version! Its a special treat that I get once, maybe twice a year. After I found some at my local grocery store, I knew it would also be perfect to use for a great New Year celebration party favor! Crafting and chocolate snacks? Does it get any better? I mean really? :D

To start with, I typed my words out into the software of my Silhouette Cameo digital cutting machine. While I was formatting the type, I plugged the We R Memory Keepers Foil Quill into a USB power source and placed it in the pen tool slot on my Cameo. (I have version 3, with two tool holders.) Once the wording was formatted, I sent the image to the Silhouette and the Foil Quill performed its magic!

When adding the foil to the top of your cardstock, use washi tape to hold it in place. The foil also needs to be as flat as possible on the paper for the best results.

After the foiling was complete, I used the WRMK Tag Punch Board to create tags. When using this tool, I always test a scrap piece of paper first, to check the angles on the top.

The Tag Punch Board also helps you punch a hole. Using the lines, you can perfectly center the hole.

I filled decorative treat bags from Michael's with the popcorn and closed the bags with a twist-tie. Then I wrapped ribbon around the bag closure. Both ends of the ribbon were passed through the tag hole and tied tightly around the bag in a bow.

To add more bling, I punched gold glitter paper with a WRMK Clear Cut Punch. It added some fun bling. In fact, I should have added more stars!

The straight ribbon ends seemed kind of blah to me. To add some curl (to my wired ribbon) I wrapped it around my stylus tool. How cute is that?

Fun, easy, quick, sparkly, and tasty. Seems like one fabulous party treat for New Years Eve or New Years Day! For more details, visit the We R Memory Keepers Blog for my post.

quick holiday cards - Cordless Marker Airbrush

Because I certainly fall into that category!

After die cutting various leaves and berries from basic white card stock, I added layers of color with the Cordless Marker Airbrush and the markers that come with it. The markers are juicy and vibrant. The color selection is great-especially for layering!

By layering greens, yellows, and blues, I was able to get a ton of dimension and texture on these die cut pieces! Adding the color is easy, making quick work of mass-producing cards!

I created the custom background paper with a stencil. Using stencils with this tool is wonderful! Great coverage and the stencils wash clean quickly with water in the sink.

I also added a touch of color and stripes to my envelopes! What a fun way to finish off my cards!
