DIY BRILLANCE! It happens all too often to brides.... you try something on, whether it be a gown, jewelry or shoes, that fall way outside of your budget. You fall in love and have the painstaking task of forgetting that it ever happened just to find out that you never truly forget about it. Instead you settle for something you like within your budget, while wishing you could just run to the store and buy the item that stole your heart. Well this happened to one of our newest stationery clients, Elizabeth. She came into our Studio on Saturday for a consultation and told me about the journey of her shoes and I was so impressed I wanted to share with all of our fans and clients. I bring you today, her affair with a fabulous pair of Louboutin shoes, her will not to cave and pay the price but rather make herself a pair of shoes that not only look fabulous but saved her from taking a huge chunk of change out of their wedding budget.

Let there be cake!!

Hi everyone! I hope ya'll are having a great week so far! I wanted to talk about a business I highly recommend. It's Tasteful Elegance located in Easley, SC. They do deliver. My sister got married a few years ago and we went to one of the Wedding Festivals at the Hyatt Place. We were both looking forward to trying out wedding cakes. There were a lot of bakery venues there and out of all of them one stood out. We walked up to Tasteful Elegance booth and was greeted with a smile by Cheryl. She owns and operates this yummy place. She gave us a sample of her famous white chocolate cake and we each took a bite and we didn't even have to speak, we looked at each other and knew this was the cake for my sister. No questions asked! It was literally melt in your mouth good! My sister later made an appointment with Cheryl and was very pleased with her. At my sister's wedding, people complimented on her cake on not only how beautiful it was but how tasty it was! My sister had a lot of cake left over from her wedding and people found out and asked her if she could spare a few slices. No joke lol!
After getting engaged I knew who I wanted to do my cake. I immediately made an appointment with Cheryl at her studio. We came on a rainy day and Cheryl opened up her studio to us and immediately offered us warm drinks. Joey ( my stud muffin fiance) and I and sat down and looked at pictures and magazines to get ideas. Honestly, we had no idea what type or style of a cake we wanted. We came in there with a clean slate. We told Cheryl how we didn't have an idea for a cake but the only thing we did know that we wanted was something different and creative. Surprisingly, Joey was working with Cheryl on different sketches and we found one that we really liked. Joey designed the cake with Cheryl all by himself! I was so pleased because the cake was everything we were looking for! Cheryl let us try several samples of cakes as well as fillings and frosting. They were all so good. Her cakes are so smooth and fresh. We of course went with white chocolate and buttercream frosting. We also ordered a groomsman cake for Joey. Joey is a big sports fan and I thought I would steer clear from that because I figured he would of expected something like that. Joey goes to starbucks at least once a day. Yes, I said at least once a day and not once a week. They all know him by name. So I decided on a starbucks inspired cake!
Cheryl is not only a good and creative baker but she's also very kind. She's very personable which to me is very important. Just to give you an example, I went to the Wedding Festivals with my future mother in law and went up to her booth and she recognized me. When it comes to a venue you want to make sure that they not only have good service but also have a care of what you want. She does cakes and cookies for all occasions!

So the yummy cake award goes to Cheryl with Tasteful Elegance! Below are some pics of her work. Please note that these pictures don't do justice of what they look like in person!

Hi all, or shall I say ya'll lol. This is my very first blog ever!! I am a bride to be and I hope that my blog will give you some helpful tips as well as some ideas and inspirations for your big day!! A little about me, I'm 26 and I will be getting married September 2012. I got engaged this past December and I've been really on the ball with my wedding planning even though we kind of had a long engagement. I don't consider myself a traditional bride, I like different things and bright colors! I guess you will be following me on my wedding planning journey. I'm half Chinese and half Korean and my stud muffin of a fiance' is Italian and Irish. Can you imagine what our kids will look like?? We live in upstate South Carolina and I hope my experience of this whole wedding planning will help you as well as anyone that lives in the area!!

I've been really curious with airbrush makeup lately. My main concern is if it really works. For me, my skin is a combination of dry and oily. For my wedding day I know I will be pretty emotional so I really want something that lasts! I've heard that airbrush makeup can last up to 24 hours!! A little bit about airbrush makeup for those that don't know-

• There are 3 different types-Water based (Matte finish, usually doesn't require any powdering). Silicone based (Gives a light dewy finish, very youthful glow). Alcohol based (light finish, stronger, can be used for special effects and tattoo coverups).
• All airbrushing is hypoallergenic and the best part is that it's the most sanitary way to put on makeup if you think about it.
• This is non-transferable, sweat, smudge and tear proof. It's also good for your skin because it actually sits on top of your skin and it does not penetrate to the pores.

Now, let's get to the good part to see if it really works! I looked up different makeup/hair artists in the area and found a few. I looked up each of their information and asked around about them. I found one that I kept eyeing on. I asked several girls and she got all good reviews. Her name is Katie Cotton. Her company is called Cotton Rogue. She also travels. Me and my sister met her on Sunday and she was very friendly and perky. She wanted to make sure that I was comfortable with my appearance and didn't want to be looking of the ordinary. She also has good prices-$120 (hair and makeup). For all other bridal parties-$85. She told me about the different types of airbrushing, I went with alcohol based because I really wanted it to be durable and it seems like the majority of the brides get it done. When she was airbrushing me, it felt so light that it almost tickled. It literally took about 1 minute for her to do the whole base of my face. She covered up all of my blemishes and my oily/dry skin was gone. Just a fair warning, there is a light smell to the alcohol based but it didn't bother me one bit. Those that have sensitive noses might be bothered, but just note that it only takes a few seconds. After she did my airbrushing, I looked in the mirror and I was super shocked. I loved the way my skin looked! My skin looked soft and smooth. I was very impressed.
When I got home I changed shirts. We've all gone through with changing clothes and getting makeup on it, very annoying. When I changed shirts, no makeup smeared on my shirt!! I got my fingers and wiped it across my cheek, nothing! I got pictures to prove it! I even faked cried, and nothing!

So if you want something durable, then I would really go with airbrushed makeup. It's worth it. You don't want to have your makeup smear or mess up on your big day. Katie will give you a consultation and you can talk about your likes and dislikes with hair and makeup. To me she's the most reasonably priced. Plus she's been doing makeup for over 12 years!

When I was in high school I would always get my makeup done at local department stores for "free" (it's free but they usually expect you to buy something which I did). And I was never impressed. They either never listened or they never made you look they way you wanted to. Notice the picture of me in high school with one of my best friends who is also a bridesmaids. Look at all that makeup! We laugh at this photo. My blue eyeshadow is ridiculous!!

So for me, airbrush makeup is a definite yes!! If you are on a budget and don't want to spend the extra money on getting it done by a professional you can do what I did, I asked my sister to pay for it for my birthday and she did! I hope this helps! Every week I will be posting a different topic!

WE ARE RELOCATING & EXPANDING!

If you missed all of our posts on our facebook page lately that we've done in sheer excitement, FTMB is relocating from NJ to SC on SATURDAY! We are very excited but as you can imagine extremely busy between working and preparing for the move. We will be "closed" until next week. Some orders are being wrapped up and then others will resume at our new lo...cation. A production email went out to all May clients this morning, please keep your eyes opened for that (check spam/bulk folders as well just in case). Orders can still be placed on our website, that is not effected at all. Just know that if you fill out any contact forms or send any emails, you may encounter a delayed response but we will get back to you as soon as we possibly can. FINALLY! We've been dying to do a bright green & black damask custom wedding card box and April made that happen. She loved one of the boxes she saw in our gallery (same layout up but in purple) and she added on a coordinating advice box for a matching set. It's going to go perfectly with all the decor pictures she sent in to us for inspiration. Another"For The Modern Bride" custom save-the-date... these bad boys were so fun to create!

Using engagement photos captured by the amazingly talented Chris Lo Bue of cLb photography (which were taken at the movie theater), we used some of the awesome shots to custom design an appropriately movie theater themed save-the-date for Adhari & Maverick. The design features the two of them watching a movie starring themselves. Super cute! Complete with 3 scratch-off sections that will reveal their wedding date to their guests, tucked into a custom printed envelope. The back of the card displays another photo that we spot colored & movie stubs that outline the accommodation information. These were really fun to make and definitely a set that their guests will not have seen before.

Our first custom designed wedding card box topper! Jamie wanted a card box for her winter wonderland wedding but requested that it be modern with clean lines and not too much "frou frou". So the design of the card box itself is sleek and minimalistic to stay streamline with her wedding and colors of silver, white & black. She asked that the top of the box not be a now or flowers but rather snowflakes. So up for the challenge, we created a snowflake topper which is the elegant and sparkly focal point of her card box as it sits atop a pile of snow. The glitter of the snowflakes goes beautifully with the sparkle of the satin silver fabric.

What an awesome party for these twins! It was a hybrid theme of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland and Charlie & the Chocolate Factory which was approrpriately named "Wonkaland". This theme allowed us to have so much fun being creative and really pulling together these two movies and make it work for one spectacular B'Nai celebration!

We go from not having a peacock themed wedding client in 5 years, to having two in one week. Love it! Here is another peacock card box for a gorgeously detailed wedding (she mailed in pictures & inspiration) and the colors are awesome together. It's a bit different from the typical peacock themed wedding, many will do purple, teal, peacock blue, etc but this couple took put their own twist on it. The bride's favorite color is green and the groom's is royal blue so with that pairing, the peacock theme was perfect. Look how fabulous everything compliments each other. Absolutely love it! Yay our second custom peacock wedding card box :) We can't wait for more!

We FINALLY had a client who was doing a peacock wedding theme. We absolutely love the mix of colors that come with this theme and was itching to create one. Randi was our first client, after 5 years!, and we were so happy it was. Not only was it a peacock themed wedding, but it was one that will have vintage touches throughout. This allowed us to get a bit more creative and design a modernized, vintage peacock wedding card box that will be noticed. It wasn't very difficult as the colors are amazing: eggplant, green & bright blue. Our clients adore it which is our #1 goal, but we are also thrilled with it as well. Congrats to Randi & Brian and their upcoming wedding!
