Everywhere around the world on January 28 is Data Protection Day. On Jan. 28, 1981 in Strasbourg a treaty was signed called ETS #108. There was a convention in Strasbourg to discuss data privacy by The Council of Europe a committee of CDCJ a governmental group of experts under the authority of the European Committee opened for Member States of the Council of Europe to sign a treaty ETS #108 to secure the protection of automated information. The convention at Strasbourg is to strengthen data protection. Data from accounting, data bases, payroll, and other data storage areas are very important information and must be protected. Data whether for business payroll or your home photos are important and must be protected. How does the world protect such valuable information? What rules and laws apply to our data? At the Convention in Strasbourg on Jan. 28, 1981 these sensitive areas were discussed and signed into a treaty. We celebrate Data Protection Day to celebrate the achievements of the world for such a unification to protect private or business data. I love using the computer! Sometimes I check the week’s ads for computer sales, amazon.com and go to the sites of pc companies only to window shop for pcs. It’s fun to do and you’re aware of new prices and more importantly new tech equipment. Commercials on television has something new about pcs all the time and I love it. I even read a newspaper ad about solar i-phones! Solar computers would be great if they make the compatibility for solar pcs at least eight hours at a time. If you’re like me and use the library public computers you get accustomed to having your computers ready to use. When you buy your own computer you have to set up everything yourself. Doing everything yourself includes security for your pc. I read in countless security books for computers, different books per computer and other computer books that each tech device comes with its own security built in, but you have to turn it on. You must apply it per computer. When you use a public computer it’s done for you and all you have to do is sit and begin to use the computer. Life is easy when you use a public computer, but nothing beats having your own computer! I just saw on television the new i-pad mini, dell’s Ultrathin laptops and never mind the new i-phones and smartphones that’s coming out with 4Gs, video conferencing and more! So much new pc in desk models and smartphones that’s like a little computer. Droids, Galaxy tabs and Sony Vaio Duo 11 Ultrabook. Software? There is new Windows 8! All the newest computers, it’s hardware and software up-dating all the time and when you own your own computer you’ve got to do everything yourself from installing it and of course the fun part is to use it. Being user friendliest kind of person I’ll depend upon tech support and have them install things and turn on the computer security so nothing goes wrong when I use the computer. I just read in yesterday's Honolulu Star Advertiser newspaper in the financial pages that many are suffering from id theft and then tax returns stolen. When will they figure out crime doesn’t pay?
