is it just Me, being an old guy, or does anyone else have problems with the touch screen. I find it very distracting driving and trying to operate the radio and climate controls. I traded a 2010 Taurus for a 2013, and wish I had old car back. To change temp. controls, You have to take Your eyes off the road. I find the system very distracting to use while driving. Maybe a 16 year old can figure it out, but not this old man

So, my car's body rolls quite a bit around corners. One suggestion I've gotten is boxed rear upper control arms with urethane bushings. I'm willing to try that. The lowers are already boxed with urethane bushings from Steeda.

Next year, my plan is to go to coilovers and swap out the front control arms for QA1 tubular ones with "compressed rubber" bushings. I will also be swapping my 17" wheels for 16". My car also already has subframe connectors (going in now) and strut tower brace.

My ultimate goal is to have a pretty solid chassis for some handling precision, but also a soft enough ride to drive it a lot. Softer than your typical "handling suspension". Do you think the rear upper control arm swap is worthwhile considering my goals? Will adding the stiffness of urethane make the ride harsher or just help with cornering? And how far should I go with that? I know they make bushings for the trans crossmember too. I know the factory crossmember isn't boxed. Is it worth getting a stronger one considering I'll already have subframe connectors?

Thanks for any thoughts!

Upon opening the door she noticed the blower was blowing in the vents while the car was off. She called later while driving to say that the chime was going off intermittently. I'm assuming this is some type of fuse or electrical issue but was hoping someone had a quick remedy.

Hey, if you have a 5.4 3valve engine and you are starting to have cam phaser issues, check out Livernois performance. They have a cam phaser lockout kit with a Performance tuner to make your engine run properly. It costs about 500 bucks and should keep us poor souls with issues from having to either replace the phasers or the engine all together. I hope to order this kit for my wifes 06 F150 at the end of the month, I will keep you all updated as I do this install.

Just bought a used ‘98 Ford E350 Club Wagon (80k miles) and need to do some work on it. Got 2 different mechanic’s opinions – one very tidy, upscale, “professional” garage, one more “casual,” but a good mechanic, just maybe not for real serious jobs.

I need help prioritizing what jobs to do first. I’m about to go on a ~6000-mile, 40-day trip with a lot of weight (about 1300 lbs, including people). Anything that is gonna cause big long-term problems or be a safety issue for now, I want to fix.

I’d really appreciate the help! Here are my questions:

1) Trans fluid replacement… this thing is at 80k and I don’t think the fluid’s been changed. One mechanic said it’s a good time to totally drain and replace. The other said that if it’s never been changed, the trans may be used to running on thicker fluid, so if you replace it all, it could start slipping.

2) Serpentine belt – both guys said I need to replace it… but I have a ripoff concern… both quoted ~$200 labor to replace my serpentine belt and pulleys, but found something online that says it should only be like $70?

3) Spark plugs and air filter – one mechanic (more “casual” guy) said they’re shot, other (more “professional” guy) said they’re fine… again, something I’ll notice?

Thanks!

  1) Shocks -- The more “professional” mechanic said they’re okay, more “casual” one said they’re shot. What’s the danger of driving on rear shocks that are on the way out?

2) Brakes – more “pro” mechanic said they need to be totally done (rotors, bearings, pads), more “casual” one said they’re fine and just need a cleaning (so, opposite to #1). To my foot, they don’t feel too bad… is this something I will notice getting slowly worse over time, or are the brakes just gonna go out on me?

My 1993 e150 5.0 started running weird after dumping some Octane Booster in the gas tank. Not being satisfied with the Octane Booster being the culprit I decided to pull the vacuum line off the fuel pressure regulator and there was no significant change in idle. I hooked up a hand held vacuum pump to the FPR and no significant change in idle. My years of shade tree mechanic knowledge tells me the FPR is bad, makes since right but how often does the FPR go bad immediately after putting Octane Booster in. Any ideas on what's going on?
