Are you an active equity trader, you can't decide which stock to trade, you are all over the place, as soon as you buy or sale the stock market goes in the opposite direction. If your answer is yes, then you have stumbled on a blog that keeps stock trading simple by focusing on the numbers from an accounting perspective. We believe the stock market is a giant ledger that requires balancing and when the out of balances persist volatility is aggravated.

By capturing nightly data, and we focus on NASDAQ stocks trading between $10 - $45 daily, we locate stocks whose numbers are exaggerated. We run the numbers through our proprietary forensic trader sniffing tool to locate unique data that stock traders can exploit. An example of a unique data we calculate is a stock's bias. Again, our methodology is accounting based so we believe every thing should balance. If it does not balance we capture and display the out of balance as a negative or positive bias. If you are day trading wouldn't you want to know a stock's bias.

Let's look at an example. CTRP closed with a negative bias of - 30 on 1/25/2013. We picked CTRP because it was down 13.48% on 1/25/2013 and for no other reason. In addition to bias, we calculate where the break even point (in balance) is located and potential momentum scalps. In this instance forensic trader calculates a break even of $19.94 and a positive bias above $20.54. Positioning ones trades around said numbers could prove profitable but I must say day trading can be an expensive endeavor and there are no guarantees of success but if you are discipline and stick to the numbers your chances will improve. Let us provide the break even and momentum ranges so you are prepared because numbers don't lie..
Many specialize in day trading techniques and stress charting as the main tool for determining an entry and exit points. We also believe in such methods but what sets us apart is the Forensic Trader Radar (FTR). The FTR considers the equities market a giant ledger that requires balancing each night. Each night the radar pings the equity markets and selects stocks displaying the most significant short term volatility that is expected to continue. After locating the stocks that match our criteria we determine the support and resistance indicators through a proprietary process that we have coined "Forensic Trader Simply by the numbers" based on pivot point trading methods.

Consider this, when you have a group of traders focused on the same stocks strength in numbers becomes an advantage. Visit http://forensictrader.com/ and become a subscriber so you too can become a part of an anonymous virtual trading group.

Forensic Trader - Copyright © 2009, all rights reserved.

Investing and Speculating

Welcome to ForensicTrader.blogspot.com, the sister website to Forensictrader.com . Over the years our blog has provided articles or tidbits pertaining to investing and speculating. Our blog was one of the first to write about investing in Smart Grid technologies. We are forward looking and continue to search for opportunities that have not been noticed by the investment community. We are also of the belief that day trading stocks can be profitable if the speculator is prepared. We like to consider ourselves the CSI of speculating hence the name Forensic trader. Next generation screeners are used to analyze the daily price movement of stocks that appear ill-liquid and are displaying significant volatility short-term. Our strength is data crunching coupled to statistical measures to find patterns that we believe a day trader can exploit without churning, thus reducing trading costs. Our goal is to provide active traders with accurate and precise stock data that can be used to enhance their trading strategy.

Because of the globalization of electronic stock markets, more participants are competing against the spread. High frequency traders (HFT) which are basically computers that execute trades based on algorithmic programs are dominating the markets. Stock traders need every advantage to succeed against such fast execution. Subscribe to our premium service and receive the all important support and resistance calculations, a most have for the active trader.

Visit http://forensictrader.com/

Forensic Trader - Copyright © 2007, all rights reserved.

SMART GRID on the Radar

A re post from 1/7/2008
A dear friend asked how come I had not written any recent articles about the credit crisis, the gargantuan trade deficit, the plunging dollar, gold above $900.00 an ounce, or commented about the recessionary trade winds that are permeating our economy. Well, since these issues are front and center in the media, and rightfully so, I have decided that I would not feed the fire by adding fuel to an already challenging environment. Instead, because I am an eternal optimist who likes to focus on the positive, (definitely not saying ignore the negative) I will concentrate on investing for the future. As I look back to the United States of the past, and I am not a historian, we see a nation that is built on ingenuity and vigor that always rises to the challenges. Some examples of ingenuity are motor vehicles, telephones, railroads, bridges, tunnels, Internet, man on the moon, and the space shuttle to name a few, all made possible by our number one resource, the electrical grid. Where would the United States be without electricity? Electricity has been the unpinning of every developed country and in America’s case taken for granted until now. I believe that is about to change and I will tell you why. As the world becomes more educated people desire to live in a more comfortable life style is a natural phenomenon. India and China are perfect examples. These countries populations are enormous with great desire for absorbing information and learning brought on by the Internet. Other countries are following, increasing the demand for the non-renewable natural resources that enable the creation of electricity. Want some irony? America has been and continues to outsource manufacturing and service related industries to countries that have reduced labor cost. The result is increased demand by those countries for the resources used for the generation of electricity. So, not only are the jobs gone but competition for the natural resources used to create electricity that is America’s underpinning has increased tremendously and does not seem to be abating. Additionally, climate change issues abound thus causing increased pressure to manage the creation and usage of electricity. There is no quick fix to the electric conundrum, however it seems law makers are reacting. On December 18, 2007 our President signed H.R.6 the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. The short version of the bill is the funding for the reduction of greenhouse gases and to enhance energy conservation and efficiency. This means alternative energy supplies generated via renewable natural resources will becoming online. I have also noticed and increased usage of the phrase “Smart Grid”. In order for America’s electrical grid to take advantage of renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, geothermal, and battery storage the electrical grid has to be upgraded. However creating new supplies is half the battle, managing the supplies is the other half, hence the term smart grid. In closing several years ago in an online chat forum I wrote that Google has the ability to recognize a trend before the trend has fully developed. Google at that time with several others invested $100,000,000 into a privately owned smart grid company called Current Technologies. IBM is working with CenterPoint Energy to create a smart grid. Cree, Itron and Echelon are other companies worth mentioning. Flying way under the radar at .041 cents a share and buried in the over the counter bulletin board (OTCBB) land of lagers is ABTG. Ambient Corp. is working with Con Edison, Duke Energy, First Energy, Entergy and a recently ended trial with San Diego Gas & Electric on smart grid technologies. I have often wondered why would behemoths utilities work with a company that does not have the resources to expand. I have not arrived at an answer but possibly trials with Ambient Corp is investing in the future, if so, should I? Thank you to my friend for inspiration.

ForensicTrader.com - Simply by the numbers

Forensic Trader is a term I coined when referring to the dissecting of stock market daily activity. Numereous strategies enable day traders to determine entry and exit points and I am certainly not suggesting they are worthless, but I have come up with a strategy that is simply by the numbers. No love, no hate, no emotion, just simply by the numbers. Using my proprietary calculations with surgical precision I was able to determine with a strong probability values that are relevant for the active trader. Visit the services page of my web site via the below to subscribe and learn more!!!!!!

http://forensictrader.com/services.html

ForensicTrader - Copyright © 2008, all rights reserved.

A ForensicTrader.com

ForensicTrader.com is a web site that utilizes next generation analytics to locate stocks displaying short-term inefficiencies in the stock market. Using our proprietary stock screening techniques we identify up to twenty (20) NASDAQ traded equities whose trading range was significant and have the potential to continue volatility the following day of trading. Our concept is called the Forensic Trader Radar and it is tuned to identify the stock market undercurrents not detected by competing products. On this blog and on the home page of Forensictrader.com we display free generic data that market participants can easily recognize via a spreadsheet we call Day Trading Edge.

Electricity has been the unpinning of every developed country and in America’s case taken for granted uptil now.

Flying way under the radar at .041 cents a share and buried in the over the counter bulletin board (OTCBB) land of lagers is Ambient Corp.

Forensic Trader - Copyright © 2007, all rights reserved.

Notable economic observations from previous blog logs

The below are notable excerpts of economic trends observed by the Forensic Trader. Will the American consumer cutback its spending? Should black Friday be the measure of the consumer? May be a fantastic door busting black Friday does not bode well for the Christmas season.

http://forensictrader.blogspot.com/2007/11/day-trading-black-friday.html

Saturday, November 10, 2007

Volatility Views

A weaker dollar, with oil rising closer to $100.00 each day made retailers feel pain and technology hints of the same.

A weakening dollar may just be suggesting that the scales are being balanced.Since the US economy is in competition with numerous developing nations demand for a limited resource such as crude will cause the price to spike.Add to the equation the science of climate change. The facts appear to be indisputable. Can the development of “renewable energy sources catapult the US back into a leadership position?Does going green mean seeing red for while and is the US willing to sacrifice luxury for efficiency till the production of alternatives are ramped to levels that are meaningful.

http://forensictrader.blogspot.com/2007/11/volatility-views.html

A Day Trading Plan

MSFT high price on 1/7/2008 = $34.80. The market is rallying and you purchase only to lose capital on the trade. The market is tanking and you sell short only to lose capital on trade. You feel snake bitten, you feel the market has it in for you. Don’t take it personal. Armed with the data that is available by subscribing to http://forensictrader.com/ services may help to alleviate your frustration. For example, let’s say you day trade symbol = MSFT. How would you prepare to enter the trade. Most day traders follow the same routine. They team a level 2 screen with a 3 minute stochastic chart, watch the futures, and wait for a trend. Not a bad technique, but what if you knew based on MSFT closing data on 1/4/2008 the support and resistance prices for the next trading day (1/7/2008). In my opinion, armed with such data enhances the chances of profitability. Let’s put MSFT under the microscope based on closing data 1/4/08, 4PM.

Closing price = $34.38, % change = -2.80%, Volume = 72, 051,850

"The Forensic Trader Radar calculates that MSFT closed below its Support of $34.52 and will find Resistance at $34.79."

ForensicTrader.com Launched

As promised http://forensictrader.com/index.html has been launched. A visit to the local vegetable markets for a family favorite called ripe plantains gave a hint. For those who are familiar with ripe plantains and are Seinfeld fans just think about how nuts Kramer was about them. Well to make a long story short for many years ripe plantains, a relative to the banana, were sold three or four for a dollar. Several months ago I noticed that that the plantains were being sold two for a dollar by most merchants. I asked why am I being shorted on my plantains stash and the response given in most cases was that the cost to transport the product had risen. So it was not a surprise to hear that the consumer price index is displaying some inflationary pressures.

Several weeks ago in an earlier blog I wrote that my kid mentioned that the lines in Costco were shorter. Not today (12/15/07). The parking lot was packed and the store was bustling. I’m sure the looming snow storm in New York explains the crowd who are trying to stock up. As I sneak a peak into shopping carts to see what is being purchased this Christmas season it is very apparent food is the gift of choice today.

That is when I struck by the thought that Costco helps to minimize inflationary pressures when members team shop. Yes, buying those super size products and splitting the cost helps to stretch the weakened dollar. It requires some planning but may be us Americans need to plan a little better. So call your fellow members, discuss what products you both use all the time. You will be surprised how much you have in common. Drive one vehicle, split the cost of gas. “Costco size” inflation I say. Be efficient with the dollar, save on food and gas the Costco way, plus you get a free meal with all the delicious finger snacks they distribute. Bottom line is you do not have to shop at Costco to buy Costco if know what I am saying stock pickers.

Costco can teach efficiency to consumers, The Forensic Trader Radar (FTR) can make day traders efficient. Since my blog is directed at the investment community what does it take for an upstart like me to get established when the competition for that niche market is enormous? I could reformulate existing events that I consider politically polarizing and economically impacting to the daily stock market trend like other publishers. Certainly that was not a dig at other publishers because the news has to occur before thought is given and human nature is to draw an opinion after the event. Yeah, that would definitely resolve my writers block but it would not set me apart from the myriad of more recognized sources. So I pause for a moment and meditate, feeling the surge of ideas building, an epiphany.

What does it all have to do with E = G you wonder? Well, since there has been so many reports that Google is preparing to bid for the 700MHz radio waves being auctioned by the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC), should they succeed, the already dominant Google brand could easily turn E’s into G’s. For example email = gmail. Using my above paragraph I will expand my E = G scenario. I will rewrite the paragraph replacing words where appropriate that begin with the letter “e” with the letter “g.”

As I contemplate what to write about this blustery winter morning it is becoming increasing clear that blogging is not as easy as one thinks, particularly if the blog’s content is original material. This won’t take long. Today 163 stocks were returned at the end of trading day that matched the criteria I always use. Exchange = NASDAQ, Price = $15 - $45, Volume => 1,000,000 share traded. Four (4) companies were up greater than 15%. The stocks are JRJC +19.84%, MLHR +17.46%, TBSI +16.30%, and VRGY +28.03%.

Let us go the tape! You won’t have to go far. Just scroll down to my November 27 articled titled “A day trader’s wish list" or just click on the Forensic Trader Radar (FTR) that follows.
http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pWDllmclb1SYe-0TrrFOtGQ

What is readily apparent is that 3 of the 4 stocks are displayed on the FTR. I also stated in the body of my post that VRGY was to be watched because of an after hours gap. Can any free or paid service match the precision of the FTR? Is it technicals or tea leaves?

The stocks to watch will published tomorrow before 8 AM eastern standard time based on the closing data of 11/28/2007.

Forensic Trader - Copyright © 2007, all rights reserved.

Symbol, Volume, and Closing price data are assumed accurate, however readers are responsible for verifying stock market data. The equity markets sure have been whipping around. Not a moment to relax as the avalanche steam rolls participants with out mercy. Well, take sometime away from the markets and get some Christmas shopping done early. Some gift ideas are Swiss army watches, Versace pocket books, HP computers, and if you really messed up and need an early gift flowers always work. A blog of cheer, have no fear, forensic is here. A one stop shop for wish list items plus the Forensic Trader Radar (FTR). Where else can a day trader get total satisfaction? Oops, you better not answer that or else the FTD ad down below will really be in your cards.

Speaking of the FTR, see the stocks that were captured by clicking on the below link. New readers should scroll down to older posts to see the criteria used for the selection process. Who would have thought that on a day known for online shopping the most popular items are stocks for sale. I remember writing on November 3, 2007

“Credit markets still on a slippery slope. Markets nervous, seems a shoe drops weekly, I am hopeful that Cinderella is not a centipede”
http://forensictrader.blogspot.com/2007/11/good-bad-ugly.html

If you are reading what I am saying now then it is imperative you click on the link above and read what I said then. My blog is geared to the active trader however it is also forward looking because it mentions economic events that are festering or sometimes hints of potential stock plays and should not be discounted.

Just finished watching “Mad Money” and Jim Cramer said investors should protect their portfolios from recession, (well he did not say recession, he said the “R” word) with defensive stocks such as Coke, Pepsi, Proctor Gamble, and others. A good idea if your name is Warren, but if you are a Citi, Countrywide, Bear Stearns,or Merrill employee ………………

At this point who wants to risk capital for the long term, only investors who can afford to and employees contributing to 401k plans? Ironically, the contributions amounts were increased and new employees will be defaulted into contributing into their companies plan unless they opt out.

As always keeping real, see the Forensic Trader Radar (FTR) by clicking on the below link.

http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pWDllmclb1SYVITSeK9-EbA

Forensic Trader - Copyright © 2007, all rights reserved.

Symbol, Volume, and Closing price data are assumed accurate, however readers are responsible for verifying stock market data. Because black Friday was a shortened trading day I eliminated Friday’s volume from the selection process. Instead, I substituted the volume average for one (1) month equal to or greater than 1,000,000. Please see the column highlighted in yellow above. Other stocks exist in the retail sector however since volume is a key indicator a shortened day of trading had to be factored.

Forensic Trader - Copyright © 2007, all rights reserved.

Symbol, Volume, and Closing price data are assumed accurate, however readers are responsible for verifying stock market data. Let me emphasize, the FTR captures blips that are potential day trading candidates for the following trading day. As always the FTR surface criteria is simply,

Exchange = NASDAQ, Price = $15 - $45, Volume => 1,000,000.

Additionally, my references are specific to daytrading, daytraders, and active traders. Let me begin.

If one were to extract data based on the criteria above for close of trading 11/23/07, the query would match and return fifty six (56) stocks. The highest percentage mover is BIDZ whose percentage gain was +13.88%, a significant move. If one compares my FTR stocks for close of trading 11/21/2007 one would notice the symbol BIDZ is displayed. I also wrote “As I digest the Forensic Trader Radar (FTR) numbers the retail industry stands out more than others”. This is the power of the FTR, even though BIDZ was down -7.84% on 11/21/07 the FTR sensors captured the under currents not visible to average screener. Logically speaking most individuals would have eliminated BIDZ from trading on Friday because the human tendency is to focus on what’s hot and discard what’s not.

So, in a nutshell the FTR identified a stock that had the highest percentage gain the following trading day based on my criteria. If you continue reading my older post you will see a similar pattern. What an advantage to have a tool like the FTR in your arsenal.

Forensic Trader - Copyright © 2007, all rights reserved.

Symbol, Volume, and Closing price data are assumed accurate, however readers are responsible for verifying stock market data. Will the American consumer cutback its spending? Should black Friday be the measure of the consumer? May be a fantastic door busting black Friday does not bode well for the Christmas season. That being said, twenty one (21) NASDAQ stocks blipped on the FTR for the close of trading Wed. November 21, 2007. Please click on the below link to view the stocks that are displaying day trading characteristics.

http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pWDllmclb1SY67rF3IYPqTQ

CROX Closed above its resistance on 11/21/2007 with a plus (+) 0 .33 BIAS.
Resistance = 38.44 Support = 37.79

Forensic Trader - Copyright © 2007, all rights reserved.

Symbol, Volume, and Closing price data are assumed accurate, however readers are responsible for verifying stock market data. Even a day trader can’t help but wonder about the bird. Such is the life of a day trader, every holiday or news event sets up the next trade. In an odd way there is a parallel between a thanksgiving turkey and day trader. The similarity is called preparation.

That’s right, turkey brine is to a tasty turkey as volatility is to a daytrader. A good cook knows how to season without tasting, like wise, a good day trader recognizes trends instinctually and sticks to the plan. Once the turkey or trade is prepared timing becomes the key. Do not over cook the bird. Do not over stay your welcome in the trade. Once the turkey is done cooking, sharpen the carving knife like a scalpel and slice up that turkey. Uneaten turkey can be used for other meals. Greed is not good, save your appetite for another day, in other words live to trade another day.

Now the dessert! Forensic Trader Radar (FTR) peach cobbler is on the menu. Click on the below link to see the menu items that may be ready for good eating or trading.

http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pWDllmclb1SbEViWwUR8BEg

Retailers look tasty and are represented by several entrants like BIDZ, DLTR, GYMB, HIBB and PLCE. Hope black Friday is Good Friday early. What else is on the menu? Hmmm, the communications group should be considered. What big volumes you have said the wolf to the sheep.

Forensic Trader - Copyright © 2007, all rights reserved.

Symbol, Volume, and Closing price data are assumed accurate, however readers are responsible for verifying stock market data. I will start by saying that my spreadsheets enable a day trader to plan his strategy. Some traders are adept at trading on the fly, however that is an extremely difficult task for electronic market participants who trade from the comfort of their homes.

This is the purpose of Forensic Trader – Simply the numbers. It allows a trader to have a plan. First things first, bookmark my blog's URL http://forensictrader.blogspot.com/ and visit daily to see which stocks appear on the Forensic Trader Radar (FTR). Click on the below link to view stocks

http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pWDllmclb1Sb6-s35qfcMGQ

Understanding the FTR

The FTR selects NASDAQ traded stocks because it has been tuned to the undercurrents of that market. Easily located surface criteria like volume and percentage (%) change are its main focus. FTR also detects ripples that are not captured via normal queries. This may sound absurd but in my opinion FTR has artificial intelligence. Simply by the numbers, FTR knows. In all honesty I am not always able to immediately decipher what the numbers mean. However, daily comparisons during the trading day following my publications usually provide a clear picture of what FTR detected.

For example, on Saturday, 11/17/2007 I wrote that YHOO should be followed. On 11/19/07 Merrill Lynch upgraded to a buy. On 11/17/2007 I said watch the trucking industry and displayed YRCW on the spreadsheet, on 11/19/2007 YRCW traded down 5% from its open price. Furthermore, since trucking was down that was a lead indicator for transportations and the overall negative market sentiment. On 11/14/2007 I said watch CSIQ, on 11/15/2007, they announced a major contract.

Let me say this, either I am very lucky or you guessed it, Forensic Trader – Simply by the numbers. What does this blog have to do with Thanksgiving? Nothing! May be the readers will discuss my blog over turkey and football or possibly search engines will find. LOL.

Forensic Trader - Copyright © 2007, all rights reserved.

Symbol, Volume, and Closing price data are assumed accurate, however readers are responsible for verifying stock market data.
