Imagine this: you’re sitting poolside basking in the warm sun. You protected your skin with natural sunscreen and your eyes with chic designer shades. You’re feeling terrific until you go back inside and look in the mirror. You notice that your hair has a case of major frizz.

Unfortunately, frizzy hair is a common hair issue for most women. It doesn’t matter if you’re hair is really curly or stick straight, frizz happens to almost everyone. The good news is that you can easily combat frizz with the right natural solutions and styling techniques. Here are the top tips for fighting frizz the natural way!

1- Leave Your Hair Alone

This is more of a challenge than a tip, but its true that touching your hair on a frequent basis triggers a case of bad frizz. The same also goes for frequent brushing. The solution: wash and condition your hair once a day with vegan products, then brush your hair once a day with a nylon hair brush. After that, just leave your hair alone.

2- Cover Your Hair In Vinegar

Skin conditioner and coat your hair in vinegar to close up your cuticles and seal in natural moisture properties. Use vinegar at least once a week, and vegan conditioner once a day,

3- Skip Silicone-based Hair Care Products

Silicone based hair care products only aggrivate frizzy hair and make it worse. Seek natural based or homemade product with zero silicone.

4- Cut Back On Heat Styling Usage.

The more you use heat styling appliances(hair dryers, flat irons, curling irons), the more damage your hair accrues.

All good hair days start with a healthy vegan diet. A healthy diet utilizes pure nutrients found in fruits and vegetables to improve your hair all the way from the root to tips. Add shine, prevent hair loss, increase hair strength with a variety of vitamins and minerals found in your favorite meals. Its a hard feat for almost everyone to eat a completely balanced diet, even for vegans. Here is a small list of what you need to incorporate to your meals. Once you establish a healthy diet, you will notice a big difference in your hair.

Seeds and nuts are an excellent vegan source of protein, which is what your hair is mostly comprised off anyway. Of course, you can’t make an entire meal out of seeds and nuts, but you can incorporate them into your meals. You can garnish your spinach salad with seeds or you can layer different types of nuts with fresh fruit to make a non-yogurt parfait.

Throw out your conditioner and replace it with olive oil. Not only does this moisturize your hair, it also strengthens your hair better than any $50 vegan hair conditioning product on the market. You could coat your hair with olive oil, or you can mix in with fresh salads or you can use it to cover up your veggies before grilling them.

When it comes to growing out a bad haircut or trying to regrow hair after hair loss, its all about vitamins. You need a healthy dose of vitamins B-3, B-5, B-6, and B-12 to maintain long healthy hair and help reinstate healthy hair growth. Since most vegan skin care and vegan foods don’t contain all these vitamins, one way to ensure that you get your needed vitamins is to take a health supplement t least once a day. On the other hand for the benefit of mineral and vitamins, you can use Le Mudd Clay from foreue to clean your hair, yep, besides cleaning your face with it, or giving your whole body a spa treatment with it, you can also wash your hair with it. Add to wet hair and you will feel the slipperiness as if it were soap (Sorry not sudsing). Remember to use a plastic cap to keep the brown clay from drying out, thereby keeping it easy to wash out. You will want to condition after the wash. Check it out to see if it works for you. BTW, clay can make some hair more voluminous–a blessing for some.

Health Benefits of Mint (Pudina)

Mint or pudina is a very common herb that is known to people since years. It is so common that a lot of us plant it in our backyard so that we can get fresh access to it. We use it in teas, chutneys, gravies and a lot of other preparations. We even use it after a meal or a smoke as a breathe freshener. But little do we know that this so called common herb has some uncommon benefits.

Mint, scientifically known as Mentha, is a garden herb that has known to have originated in the Mediterranean region. It has been known for its curative properties since 2000 years. Even the ancient Greeks and Romans used it as a perfume and a bath scent. They also used it in medicine and in cooking. There are many types of mints like, apple mint, water mint, horsemint, pineapple mint, orange mint, pennyroyal and spearmint. From all of them, peppermint and spearmint are probably the most widely used species of mint. Mint leaves, without a qualifier like peppermint or apple mint, generally refers to spearmint leaves.

Mint is actually a greek name that is named after the Greek goddess Minthe. Story goes that Hades, God of the Underworld, fell in love with Minthe. But when Hades wife, Persephone, found out about this affair, she turned Minthe into a plant, so that everyone would walk all over her and trample her. Hades, not able to undo his wife’s spell, gave Minthe a beautiful aroma so that everyone would be careful and not walk over her.

Mint is not only tasty but also very healthy. It has many medicinal properties as well. A few of these are mentioned below:

Good for stomach: Mint is a good appetizer and promotes digestion. Menthol, a volatile substance contained in the essential oil of mint, has a direct antispasmodic effect on the smooth muscle of the digestive tract. The ability to calm cramping stomach muscles makes it a superb treatment for reliving symptoms of indigestion, heartburn, stomachache and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS – an intestinal disorder that causes abdominal pain, bloating, and irregular bowel movements). It also helps the muscles around the intestines to relax thereby promoting less gas production and better overall digestion.

Fights headaches and other pains: Balms which are based on mint or mint oil, when rubbed on forehead and nose, give quick relief in headache. Because of its antispasmodic and nervine properties (beneficial to the nervous system), it is especially recommended for people with migraines. The strong and refreshing aroma of mint is also a quick remedy for nausea. So if you feel headache or nausea, smell the oil of mint or crushed fresh mint.

Skin care: Mint, because of its ability to act as an anti-pruritic agent (soothes and calms the skin that’s itchy or infected), is used in a variety of beauty and skin care products such as skin creams, toners, body lotions and face masks. Mint pastes when applied to the face helps the skin rejuvenate and re-hydrate. It has been also beneficial to cure blackheads, pimples and acne because of the high content of salicylic acid found naturally in mint. This acid loosens up dead skin cells, allowing them to shed easier and thus helps to prevent your pores from clogging up, resulting in fewer pimples and clearer skin. It can be also used to treat insect bites because of its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. Mint is a very good cleanser for the blood as well so regular consumption can lead to a very glowing skin.

Dental care: Mint is used for dental care because of its germicidal and freshening properties. It reduces the growth of bacteria in the mouth and keeps your breath, tongue and teeth clean. It also helps keep oral diseases at bay. That is why it is extensively used in dental products like toothpaste, mouthwash, chewing gums etc.

Anti cancer properties: The phytonutrient, called perillyl alcohol, in mint has been shown in studies on animals to prevent the formation of skin, colon and lung cancer. However, further human studies are needed to see if this important benefit extends to the humans.

Beneficial in asthma and cough: Regular use of mint is very beneficial for asthma patients because of its strong aroma which helps in opening up congestion of nose, throat, bronchi and lungs. The soothing and cooling properties helps in the break down of cough. Being an effective expectorant, mint can also help in removing mucus and phlegm from the respiratory tract. Hence it is used widely in inhalers and cough medicines.

Enhances body’s immunity: Mint tea acts as an immune system booster, since it is rich in nutrients like phosphorus, calcium, vitamin C, D, E and small amount of vitamin B complex. It also helps in keeping the body safe and protected from many infections and inflammations. Mint reduces the growth of fungus & bacteria in the body as well.

Benefits especially for women: It helps in reducing nausea and morning sickness during pregnancy. It is also beneficial in curing menstrual cramps during periods as it can help in relaxing the smooth muscles.
Precautions: Nursing mothers should stay away from mint as it can decrease your milk flow.

Mint is in fact so widely use that it is added in toothpaste, chocolates, chewing gums, mouthwash, liquor, lipsticks, candies, ice creams, inhalers and mouth fresheners. Mint has a lot of benefits for the body so make sure to incorporate mint in your diet today!

This article is so full of info that you will be amazed. The popular herb called mint that is so plentiful during the summer months is a little miracle in itself.

At Foreue, we use it all the time in our formulas because it is so versatile and helpful. Remind yourself to read labels and you will see how popular mint is in formulas from food to skin care to health care. Find out how you can use it for your special needs or just at tea time, if you please.

The Greek mythology of how mint got its name and why it exists is such a great story. I think you will have fun with it as I did, cause the myth is so creative as it solves the issues of the day. So, read on and enjoy.

Talk about vegan treats! Only I would not eat these for breakfast. Have mercy, lets get the fruit out, the granola, the smoothies and oatmeal. Save the cupcake for mid day snack if our personal diet allows it. This recipe sounds so wonderful, I thought I should post it though, and let you tell me if its thumbs up or not. Who’s trying it first? (BTW) If you can cut down on the sugar in the recipe by at least 25%, you will be doing yourself a favor. Otherwise, have fun!!!!!

Life is so much more enjoyable with a few indulgences every once in a while, and what a better way to indulge than to to enjoy a luxe (vegan) skin care treatment? You don’t need a lot of money nor do you need to spend an entire day at a spa. Just purchase a few of your favorite vegan spa products and use them at least once a week(preferably on a weekend evening when you have time). Here are a few must-have vegan spa products to get you started!

1- Fake a good night’s sleep with Pack Your Bags-They’re Leaving Instant Gratification Eye Gels. A winner of last year’s Beauty With A Conscience Natural Solutions Award, these eye gels contain ingredients like cucumber, seaweed, essential oils, lemongrass, and vitamin E.

2- This Organic Cold-Pressed Coconut Butter is a real treat! This nourishing body butter gently cleanses and exfoliates, reduces inflammation, and restores your skin back to health. As a bonus, this organic skin care product doubles as a conditioning cream rinse!

Clear up acne and renew your skin with this detoxifying and exfoliating product which was formulated with pineapple and papaya. This product also combats against other blemishes such as blackheads and whiteheads.

4- A do-it-yourself manicure needs the right products like Critical Cuticle Treatment, a nourishing oil that adds strength to your nails and cuticles. Complete your manicure with vegan based nail lacquers from SpaRitual

5- Go au natural with the right makeup remover. Try Herbal Makeup Remover, which is a creamy and luxe alternative to most makeup removers.
It’s been said that healthy people are sexier. Considering how healthy, slim, and attractive many vegans and vegetarians are, this might just be true. But, it’s not enough to just go vegan in order to be healthy, fit, and slim. You can’t just eat a bunch of carrots and apples and sit on the couch and expect to feel good, look good, and be healthy. It takes effort, consistency, and willpower to be healthy and well. To get on the journey to vibrant good health and an improved attractive appearance, there are a few simple things you will need to do. One of the most important is to study and learn about healthy vegan eating. Sometimes we have to relearn or adjust how we cook and select new nutritious foods. There are many helpful and great websites, books, magazines and youtube videos that will help us and provide us with support and resources.

“Back To Eden Cookbook” is one of the best books I’ve ever read and it helped me tremendously when I was first learning how to cook delicious healthy vegan meals. It also helped me understand the food I was eating and improved my relationship with it. The author, Jethro Kloss, was a health inventor and pioneer in the same era as Dr. Harvey Kellogg and helped many people discover healthier ways of eating and living. Vegweb.com, http://www.vegweb.com is a wonderful online community that has many resources for helping the newbie vegetarian and vegan on the journey to health, wellness, and higher awareness. You’ll find many wonderful recipes, great new like-minded friends, and healthy supportive recommendations.

The Internet is an invaluable tool for learning how to be a healthy, happy, aware vegan. Just type words like “vegetarian website” or “vegan resources website” into google or yahoo and do a little research when you have time.

Soapwort is generally considered an alternative to commercial soaps and cleansers. Soapwort is a herb that is often used like soaps, however it is actually gentler on sensitive skin types and does not dry out skin like some soaps do. Soapwort is also all natural. It features no harsh chemicals, additives, or preservatives, therefore it’s safer. Soapwort contains a natural ingredient called saponins which is what gives soapwort the sudsy cleansing action.

The easy way to turn soapwort into usable soap is to boil the leaves and stalks in water, and then strain them. Ingredients include about a cup of fresh soapwort leaves (or one half cup of dried) to about a pint of water. The wonderful liquid that is left is great for expensive fabrics or those that require a gentle wash. You will find this simple herbal soap alternative invaluable if you need to clean delicate older fabrics too.

Soapwort is a good herb to use to make soap or cleansing agents simply because it is less harsh than a lot of soap agents. You’ll discover that soapwort lathers well.

Besides using soapwort as a laundry soap, you can use soapwort for a natural body cleanser or shampoo. If you bathe your rashes or acne with it you will discover the skin soothing properties it offers for skin conditions and sensitive skin. skin conditions like rashes or sensitive skin. Have fun trying out soapwort for yourself.

Shopping for vegan skincare and beauty products just got easier, particularly for those with an iPhone or iPod Touch. A quick search on iTunes will yield dozens of vegan friendly applications (or “apps”) that make your vegan lifestyle that much easier. From consolidated shopping lists to recipe apps to green lifestyle guides, you’ll find it all. And the best part here is that many of these apps are acutally free! Lets take a better look at some of the vegan apps you need now.

Cruelty-Free App for iPhone/iPod Touch.

You finally found the perfect moisturizer, but you want to know if it was tested on animals. Now you can carry the entire list of cruelty-free products and vegan cosmetics right in the palm of your hand. It’s the same list you’ll find on their website, only in the form of a smaller application to fit your iPhone. With this app, you’ll never have to question products when shopping because this time saving list names all the cruelty-free companies and products.
One hard thing about being vegan is not being able to use certain types of material or cloth. This includes makeup brushes, which is something you can argue as one the most important parts of vegan beauty or eco-friendly products for skin care. You may feel limited and to be honest, it can be tough finding soft man-made brushes that can stand up to traditional brushes, but it can be done. So what vegan products are out there, in the market, to pamper vegan skin that can stand up to regular makeup brushes.

Taklon is an animal-friendly kind of brush to use. Not only are they soft, but they also blend very well. The material is 100% man made fiber, yet maintains softness. It is very good choice for those who prefer soft brushes and are willing to pay a little more money for a quality.

Nylon is another option, and while they are not as soft as Taklon they still do the job well and usually can be purchased for a cheaper price.

These two are the most common types of vegan beauty makeup brushes, but you may also find a few rarer types as well.

Never trust a company that does not state what the bristles are made of. Even if the company says their brushes are synthetic, the keywords are “100% synthetic” and “not tested on animals”. This is important. So always double check labels for more info or do your research online.
