I have to admit, this was the most fun answers for one of my interviews!

Where did you write the most (at home? Starbucks, etc.?)

Definitely at home. Actually, only at home. I don’t drink coffee, and I just bought a laptop two months ago. I’m not very cool, now that I think of it.

What's your favorite food and beverage?

My favourite food is the goulash that my Oma used to make. It’s like a steak and gravy sauce on pasta. Very healthy. And my favorite beverage is probably beer. Some mornings it’s my least favorite.

Did you have a schedule while writing The Vindico, and if you did, what was it?

I did. I wrote at the same times every day—I treated it like a real job. It’s just the best job ever.

Will The Vindico be the first book of a series, or a standalone?

It will be the first of a six book series, if all goes well. The sequel, The Feros, is already written and will be published in June of 2013. I’m hoping readers are going to want to grow with my characters, because I certainly do. There are a lot of darker and more mature themes I want to explore with them, much like the Harry Potter series. You’ll see the first signs of that in The Feros.

What would be the most surprising thing you didn't know would happen by becoming an author?

People think I have important things to say now. Unfortunately, that’s rarely true.

What would you say to your younger self as you were beginning to write The Vindico?

I’d say “Take a little break and write 50 Shades of Grey.”

The Vindico's cover is really amaze-pants. What did you think the first time you saw it?

I was pretty blown away. I didn’t expect it to be so eye-catching. I was slightly afraid that it was a little masculine and female readers might not like it, but as usual that just proved I know nothing about females.

Describe your book in five words or less!

Teens get superpowers; chaos ensues.

Where did you get the idea for your novel?

I have no idea, actually. I once wrote a chapter describing two villains (Sliver and The Torturer), having a merry chat about torturing a superhero in acid at a ballroom party. Somehow from that this entire premise came about. I don’t get it either. But I’m certainly glad it did.

Who is your favorite superhero, and why?

Wolverine. I just like that he’s a superhero but also kind of a jerk.

If somebody told you to your face ' I hated your book', how would you react?

I’d probably thank them for reading it. I’m 6’7, so if it was a younger reader, it would probably be a very amusing situation. That said, if you watch my promo video you’ll see that small children can still bully me quite easily.

Anything we readers should expect from your future books?

In terms of The Vindico series, expect darker themes as the series progresses, but also the same humor and relationship-building to dominate the story. These five teens have a lot of growing to do, and I’m excited to see where this adventure might take them. And as for the other projects I have on the go, expect them to be nothing like The Vindico series.

My Opinion :

A unthinkable twist was waiting for me at each turn of a page!

It said in the book, countless times, that Sarah J. Maas already has a legion of thousands of fans due to her first posting her book (several stages of writing before the final product) on internet! Now that is a seriously awesome marketing plan, people!

Grave Mercy, Poison Study, and ANY fans of YA will enjoy Throne of Glass!

After being for one year in Endovier , a slave camp where criminals are sent to mine salt day after day, and being whipped while mining the salt, 18 years old assassin Celaena Sardothien now gets sent to the castle, where the King and Crown Prince(Dorian) reside. And, she is told that she will fight many men to be the king's Champion, and that if she wins, after four years of serving the king, she will gain freedom; something she has never tasted before. She starts training with the captain of guards, Chaol... and she starts liking him... and she starts liking Dorian too. But when evil starts lurking in the castle, and the ghost of a thousand-years-old-dead woman, and ex-queen, comes help her, Celeana doesn't know what to do, or who to trust.

I feel like this may be the next Hunger Games, guys! I can smell 'movie' written all over the book! Don't you? With a plot like that, boys and girls will LOVE IT!

Although I really liked Throne of Glass and found myself immersed completely in the story at times, it just wasn't THE complete package; I felt like there was something missing, although I couldn't put my finger on it. I guess it just wasn't met to be for me, but I can say that you NEED to buy Throne of Glass if you want a good, adventurous books to make spike your summer (or any time of the year) up and, maybe to make it better! I know that, for some people, Throne of Glass was a favorite of 2012, if not their very favorite!

The writing is special; a little bit lyrical, entertaining, fast-paced are only a few words I would use to describe Maas' writing! And, that's only a tenth of how I'd describe it!

I am more of a 'Team Chaol'; I didn't like the romance between Celeana and Dorian, because it felt like only Dorian loved Celeana, and Celeana just liked him, not liked liked him.

With its beautiful and mesmerizing cover, its stunning plot, its unputdownableness, and lyrical writing, Throne of Glass is a MUST!

Today, we are discussing Hardcovers vs. Paperpacks vs. Mass Markets vs. eBooks. I'll be stating some ups and downs for each.

HC vs. PB vs. Mass M. vs. eBooks

Hardcovers

Ups : Hardcovers are the best of these formats, for me. The spines are almost always the same heights, and so my Hardcovers shelves look pretty. Also, you have the 'hardness' of the book. It's hard to damage it. When I read Hardcovers, I take the jacket off, because, first, I don't want to damage it, and second, it doesn't feel comfortable when you hold it.

Downs : It's heavy, and the most expensive of all

Paperbacks

Ups : They sometimes have different covers from Hardcovers, which means, if you don't like the HC cover, you can get another one! Also, it's not too heavy

Down : They have many different sizes. That's a MAJOR down.

Mass Markets

Ups : They sometimes have different covers from Hardcovers, like the Paperbacks! They are easy to carry, in pockets and everything! And, they are the cheapests of physical formats!

Down : They are little, easy to damage, and are sometimes hard to open without damaging it.

eBooks

Ups : They sometimes are cheaper than other formats, and you can carry many eBooks on ONE Tablet.

Downs : Prices are sometimes more expensive than physical formats, which doesn't make sense to me. You don't have the 'feel' of real books, and you can't see their pretty spines in your bookshelves. You don't have to smell of books.

As I said, I prefer HARDBACKS :D

A short but sweet hiatus

Yes.

I, Cathee, am taking a short hiatus (actually a month) from blogging. That doesn't necessarily mean I won't be active in the blogging community, but I won't be active on my blog.

I never would have thought that I'd do this, but, for a few days, I don't feel like writing, or posting anything even thought I have so many post written up (but they do need some 'polishing'). I just don't feel like it anymore.

I'm giving myself a month. We'll see how it goes. Now, I can read WHATEVER I WANT.

My Opinion :

I was really interested in reading ReVamped, mainly because of its purely kick-ass cover (what? Don't judge me! I love beautiful covers, people!), but also because of its popularity, and how nice the author was to her fans on Twitter. Also, the title and summary intrigued me.

Although ReVamped was a bit slow in the beginning for me, after about halfway through, it started getting fast-paced, action-packed, and I couldn't stop thinking about the pure awesomeness that this book is.

A stunning debut novel!

I almost ran into a wall while reading this book. I was too immersed into the story!

ReVamped is about Dawn, a young Born vampire, and the Vampire Us President's only daughter. But then, she is sent on her first mission; she has to go to Angel Creek to 'revamp' - or train - new vampires to guard and protect the humans in the city. But... what if she met love? And that she learned a handful of truths about herself, Ethan, Sebastian... and her mother.

I really liked how the characters were all built; they all had different personalities and didn't really deter from them! I love that the author was able to stick to them and not forget to develop and keep them throughout the book!

A talented author. A gorgeous cover. An awesome storyline. Not one, but TWO hot guys. Fast pacing. What more would you want? (I mean, seriously)

My Opinion :

Scribbler of Dreams may be a pretty old book (it was first released in 2001… I WAS THREE back then! Wut? I KNOW!), but that doesn’t mean it isn’t as awesome as any other newly released book!

Scribbler of Dreams is kind of a retelling of Romeo & Juliet, although fortunately, none of the love interests die! Ain’t that just great?

Its unputdownability makes the book even richer, stronger, and better! A must read for any Shakespeare fan, or any romance fan! Even DRAMA fans will devour this priceless novel in no time!

The story follows Kaitlin and Bram’s dramatic sotry as they quickly fall in love with each other. But, the thing it, Kaitlin is a Malone, and Bram is a Crutchfield. And their families can be considered as archenemies to each other. And so, because she loves Bram too deeply, Kaitlin hides that she is Malone, fearing what Bram would thing of her if he knew who she really was. She mainly hides it because her father killed his father (now, imagine how the family reunions will be 0.0) And as the non-stop lies continue growing, she’s not sure how she’ll tell Bram the truth about her identity.

The writing isn’t really the most sophisticated and lyrical writing that ever existed, it has some sort of beauty to it, one that I didn’t think I’d find while reading this pretty awesome book.

I am really not a fan of insta-love; I find it, most of the time, stupid and not good at all. But, it wasn’t the case for this book; this book’s insta-love doesn’t happen because they fall in love with each other for no reason, but because they are pretty much the same, and they understand each other.

I felt like Bram (I thought that was a weird name… just wanted to point that out…) and Kaitlin made a really cute couple!

But, one bad thing is that the book was too quick for me! I wanted more of the book, more of the characters, more of everything! And, the ending just felt rushed to me, as if the author couldn’t wait to finish the book.

Cold Fury : Book Review

My Opinion :

Cold Fury had a, surprisingly, compelling feel to it. I say 'surprisingly' because I wasn't expecting too much of the book.

Kick-ass debut! Although, I can say that I would have preferred more romance.

Although Cold Fury has about 0.01% of romance, and that I am a huge romance fan, I still found myself pulled into the entertaining story that Goeglein created.

In Cold Fury, we meet Sara Jame Rispoli, the daughter of the boss of 'The Outfit', a mafia group. Except she only discovers that she really is after her mom, dad, and little brother get captured- or worse, are dead. All of this because of the stupid 'notebook'; the best weapon to getting into The Outfit. Now, many people are after the notebook- and her, because she's got it. All she wants is her family back, and she'll use anything to get them back- even the notebook.

I couldn't stop turning the pages, because I wanted to see how the book ended... then I saw on Goodreads that this was a series! WHY, OH WHY! *sigh*

I liked Max and Doug, Sara Jane's friends, although I would have liked Sara Jane's and Max's almost non-existent romance had a bigger part in the book!

A perfect book for boys; action-packed and awesome!

I'm pretty sure this would make an awesome movie! With its awesome plot, and it's non-stop action, it would definitely attract teenagers.

A thrill-ride from the beginning till the end!

Books to Graphic Novels : Why the Trend?

Have you notice how many books are now made in Graphic Novels? I have. And so, I just want to discuss. So, this time, the issue is :

Books to Graphic Novels

Don't be shy and comment on your thoughts after reading the post!

First, I want to show you the shocking evidence :

And there are quite a lot upcoming Graphic novels!

Anyways, it seems like many Young Adult books (both popular and not that popular) are getting published into graphic novels. And, I love it. I love reading Vampire Academy : The Graphic Novel, although, since (I think), there is a movie coming up, it just messed up how I pictured the characters; I think that'S the only negative consequence about Graphic Novels.

Something good, is that it opens up to a whole new public; for example, I have this friend called Jean (this isn't her real name :D), and she loves Manga and Graphic Novels. She hates books without pictures in them. And so, if I wanted her to read Hush, Hush, she probably wouldn't want. But, if I'd show her the Graphic Novel, and she likes it, then maybe she'll give the real books a try!

Also, there is the fact that it can be read pretty quickly! I read Vampire Academy : The Graphic Novel in about 20-30 minutes. I needed more VA, and, instead of rereading the whole series, I read the Graphic Novel, and even though it wasn't as good as the real VA, I liked it.

But, sometimes, you take the chance that, by reading a Graphic Novel, you won't like it, but you loved the real book, and so, it will maybe ruin your opinion of the book, or maybe not.

My Opinion :

I have been a fateful fan of Cassandra Clare since the first time I read City of Bones, a book I wasn't sure I would like. But I LOVED it. And my love for miss Clare hasn't died out. No; it has grown bigger. Even bigger with City of Lost Souls.

City of Lost Souls was filled with surprising twists that made me gasp.

City of Lost Souls is just after City of Fallen Angel's ending (which was a frigging huge cliffhanger!) and, let me tell you, when you start City of Lost Souls, even if you had forgotten everything that had happened in City of Fallen Angels, everything just FLOWS back to your mind.

As always, Cassandra Clare's writing pulls you in, and doesn't let you go away easily!

Jace really scared me in some parts of the book, and I was so utterly confused about what was going on with him. I wondered if he had really changed sides.

Clary, fortunately, has gained a lot of maturity throughout all the series. I thought she was at her best in City of Glass, but in City of Lost Souls she was almost as great a character as she was in the third book.

I cannot wait to read the next installment in this thrilling series!

My Opinion :

I was so thrilled when the blog tour host accepted for me to be on the blog tour. I had heard quite a few good things about this book, and the premise really sounded interesting to me.

Contemporary - and fantasy - fans will love KNEE DEEP

Jolene Perry takes you into the world of Ronnie Bird and Shawn, Ronnie's boyfriend. Shawn is what Ronnie calls 'her soulmate'- or so she believes. The book begins with them all lovey-dovey and nice, until Shawn starts getting more jealous of anything and everything. It starts affecting the way Ronnie does everything, and she begins being afraid of him. And then he starts hurting her. But... could he really do that? Ronnie believes it'S just because things aren't going well at home. But should she let him? And Luke, her lifelong friend, is starting to worry for her.

I loved that the book has different aspects to it; the Romeo and Juliet play, Luke, even Ronnie's best friend.

The love between Ronnie and Shawn was really heart-breaking. But, I thought Luke and Ronnie's forming love throughout the book was beautifully crafted! Bravo to Perry!

I know that this book deals with a harsh issue, and I find that more people should read books that discuss it, so that it never happens, and that if it does, that people react faster.

Knee Deep hypnotized me from start to finish.

This book may be really short, but sometimes the quality beats the quantity; as it did for this book. I felt connected to the book in a weird way; I cheered for the main character, Ronnie, to find a way to get away from Shawn. I just wanted her to be safe.

A great read I'd recommend to anyone looking for a great contemporary.

My Opinion :

If only Spark had been as good as Glow was for me... alas, it wasn't.

Glow was a really great book, but its sequel had the Stupid Sequel Syndrome (why, oh why!!!!!!!!!). Spark was only about Kieran being an ass and Waverly turning into a cold-blooded bitch (well, she wasn't always... but she was a bitch sometimes)

In Spark, the only thing happening is a kind of fight between Kieran and Waverly. It's kind of a political tirade going on for the entire book. But, of course, there's this kind of terrorist on board... so I guess the book is not too bad... but I just didn't like it!

The writing was way more fast-paced than what I would have liked it to be, but I think it was the best aspect of the book.

As you may know, I hate hating a book, and I hate giving it as bad rating, because I feel sometimes like it's my fault that I didn't like it. But, in this case... I think it was the book. Not me.

I didn't exactly hate Spark... but I strongly disliked it.

Kieran was... oh god. I don't think I have strongly hated someone this much in a book. EVER. I think that's what the author was going for.

But, Miss(es) Ryan also made me dislike Waverly A LOT.

After I finished my studies, I decided to try writing something different from Shadow Falls. I wanted to try writing something more lighthearted and funny, but that still had some substance to it. This is how Vibes was born. I had heard of that elusive creature, the book that wrote itself, but I had not experienced it before Vibes. Kristi was such a strong character, with such a strong voice, that the story just poured out of me. In four months, I had finished it. After one or two quick revisions, I sent it to my agent, who quickly found a very enthusiastic publisher for it.

Now I write full time in my house in Colorado, where I live with my cute fluffy dog and my cute unfluffy husband. Being a full time writer is a dream come true.

My Opinion :

I have been a huge Gleek (or Glee fan) since the beginning, and I would be lying if I said that Kurt Hummel (played by Chris Colfer, the author of THE WISHING SPELL, his wonderful debut novel) wasn't my favorte character. I love him as an actor, and I was really happy to find out that I like him as an author too!

I'm not one for Middle Grade novels. I do really enjoy Rick Riordan's novels, but otherwise, I don't read Middle Grade. But, as you can see, I dug into The Wishing Spell pretty quickly and enjoyed it a lot!

The Wishing Spell follows twins Alex and Conner Bailey's story as they discover The Land of Stories' magical world where fairy tale characters actually exist. But, they have to find a way back home, and so they start on a quest to get the seven items needed for the Wishing Spell, a spell that can give you any wish you want. But, the Evil Queen, Snow White's stepmother, wants the Wishing Spell too. And the problem is; the Wishing Spell can only be used two times... and there is only one left.

Near the end, I was sweating, turning the pages as fast as I could so that I could see how it ended.

After a while, though, the quest to finding all the objects got kind of long, but then the best part of the book came by ;D

Although I do like series, I'm seriously wondering where Colfer will takes us next.

Seriously adorable!

If you get the book, look closely at the cover; it's just so beautiful, and represents the book perfectly!

One thing I hated was how the author portrayed the twins; they are 12. I'm 13, so let's say we're the same. And I am not at all like that. They seemed like they were 9 or 10 or something!

My Opinion :

Wicked Jealous is an updated take on the popular fairy tale Snow White, but not many aspect of Snow White, one of my favorite tales, were in the book, apart from the evil-stepmother trying to feel the main character apple even though she was allergic to it.

To say that Wicked Jealous was a very great book would be a too far of a stretch, but it definitely was an entertaining book that you should add to your (ever-growing) summer reading pile.

Wicked Jealous is the perfect summer book that has you grinning and laughing out loud. It definitely has a summer feel to it, and even though (while I am writing this review) summer has not yet started for me (D:), it made me more eager for it and had me relax even if I still have a couple exams left.

Wicked Jealous is Simone's story. Simone is NOT your typical teenager. She loves old French movies, and music, hates popular shows. And she eats when she's stressed; hence her being more... roundish, let's say. But then, she starts this Zumba dancing class and starts losing weight. Then, there's the murderous, evil and bee-atche step-mother (or well, supposedly-soon-to-be... and if you have read the book, you know all about the murderous part), Hillary.

Wicked Jealous is a good contemporary book, but I didn't really enjoy its writing, mainly because the book was too slow-paced for me at times. The writing isn't anything special, even though it is pretty much enjoyable.

Simone was a good character, and I would have liked her better if it had not been for her problem of self-esteem

I think the best part of the book was when she started living with Max, her brother, and his friends.

My Opinion :

I have to admit, and although I am now ashamed to admit it, that I wasn't planning on buying the book or anything. It didn't sound my kind of book, and I thought the cover... was weird. But, in person, it's wicked cool. What I mean is, that I, was, again, stubborn. And that I really enjoyed this book, WAY MORE than how much I taught I would.

Croak is about Lex (or Lexington... and that'S a weird name. I kept thinking about a town or something when I saw her whole name... anyways, moving on!), and Lex has been angry for a few years. Angry at nothing in particular, just.... angry. And, she's violent. I mean, she made her school's whole hockey team cry. But now her parents have had enough, and they send her to her uncle.That's when she discovers she is actually a Grim Reaper. Or a Killer. Which means she takes a person's soul from Earth to transport it to the Afterlife.

I think that my favorite thing about the book was Lex's... charms. Okay, not charms, because she's not exactly the charming type. But... I think it was more of her snarky and witty personality that made me love her as a character, and made me enjoy the book way more.

Also, something that always made me grin and/or snort unladylike was when there were some times about the Afterlife, and that there was someone previously famous, like Edgar Allan Poe. It was just so hilarious!

The writing style definitely is one that I like a lot! I love to have a good laugh when reading a book, and this book was just like that!

As I said, Lex was my favorite aspect of the book. But Diggs falls into that category too. Their 'romance-although-not-really-romance-more-kind-of-something-else' was just so funny. I loved it. And... when he said who was on his precious picture.... I was like this :

An incredibly funny debut that I liked a lot!

My Opinion :

Illuminate was a promising debut book. But, it just wasn't for me.

I know that quite a lot of people seemed to like or love Illuminate, and so, of course I was really anxious to read it, because... just LOOK at that cover. It'S SO pretty. And, I normally really like and enjoy angel books a lot.

Illuminate fell flat for me.

Illuminate is the story of Haven, a teenage girl, who's 'mother' is actually a nurse that adopted her after she was found at 5 years old with no memory of what had happened before. But now, she has been invited, along with her best friend (a guy) and another classmate to go to this hotel and help them with stuff. But, it turns out that that's not really what the hotel wants.

You could just tell that the book was going to be a series the way it was written!

Although the story seriously lacked in action (except for the few last hundred pages), saying that the writing sucked would be a total lie. Because, I liked it quite a lot. It just... there wasn't enough drama!

I think something else that made me NOT like the book at all is the main character, Haven. She didn't have a personality! AT ALL!

I know that the summary I made, and the one on Goodreads may sound mysterious, and that'S what I thought. I thought this book was going to be so good, but ti wasn't. BUT, it may be right up your alley, so don't just take my word for it! Go over to Goodreads to see other reviews :D

My Opinion :
I was really surprised when I saw how little Never Eighteen was. It doesn't have many pages, AND the book is surprisingly small. I guess that's why I picked it up so soon after receiving it for review; I wanted a really quick read :D

Never Eighteen wasn't the best book I had ever read... but it WAS a good book. And, you may know that I didn't really enjoy The Fault in Our Stars that much... and Never Eighteen was about the same, except I liked it just a LITTLE more.

Never Eighteen is Megan Bostic's first novel (or debut novel), and I hope that, if she writes books in the future, I will enjoy them more than I did with Never Eighteen.

Never Eighteen deals with Austin. who will never turn eighteen (hence the book title). Because he has leukemia. But, he decides that he has to make things better with a few people. And so, on a weekend, he asks his best friend, and also love interest (he'S in love with her, but he doesn't know if she feels the same way) named Kaylee, to drive him to people's places. She agrees, and they start going around. And Austin changes people's lives.

The writing in Never Eighteen is really fast, and the book is actually two days worth of events (well, 180 pages of the 200 pages). Sometimes, when Austin went to people's house, I enjoyed it, but other times I found it boring.

The romance was only developed enough for me to enjoy it near the book's end. And then, it got killed off... which made me NOT happy. I really like romance, as you may have guessed.

Weirdly... I didn't cry. I'm not the biggest crier, but I do sometimes cry, especially when the book is sad (No shit, Sherlock *sarcastic*), but I guess it didn't get to me enough.

My Opinion :

The book definitely spiked my interest in the movie!

Snow White and the Huntsman was a good book, although it lacked romance too much for me, and the storyline didn't have enough content to it to make the book a 3.5 roses.

Snow White and the Huntsman is obviously a retelling of Snow White, and while other retellings don't have much to do with the fairytale they 'retell', this one was a lot like the original, but more... raw... or maybe violent! Also, it was too quick, and I felt it didn't have a proper ending! I needed more romance, because... you know, romance is awesome!

Snow White and the Huntsman is about Snow White and her evil step mother that killed her father. Snow White has been imprisoned in a prison for ten years. But then, the evil step-mother learns that she can be immortal if she kills Snow White and gets her heart... but then Snow White runs away. And, she may be the only bit of hope that citizens of the kingdom have of killing the evil step-mother a.k.a. evil queen.

While I do enjoy a good fast-paced story, this book was just too quick. Not in the 'oh-I-wish-there-were-more-I-loved-this-book-so-much-and-I-need-more' way but in the 'ummm-this-feels-uncomplete-to-me' way. I don't like these kind of stories... at all.

I thought Snow White didn't have ANY personality. I hated her (as a character). But I did like the (almost non-existent) romance between her and the Huntsman, and I wish there was more development to it!

One good thing (and the main thing that is keeping me from giving it a 2 roses), is that it brought me some nostalgia, because it is a fairytale retelling. At least they got that right!

Although it wasn't the best book ever, I did enjoy some parts thoroughly, but others not at all.
