Lewis Hamilton is now the 2015 world champion.

Lewis Hamilton started this race 66 points ahead of his nearest rival Sebastian Vettel for the champion ship. It was more important for Vettel to at least finish 2nd in order to keep the championship open to him.

Lewis Hamilton's Race Focus.

Becoming world champion in F1 is no easy feat, Lewis has said in a past interview, that he does not consider all the mathematics that are needed to win a championship. Nor does he take notice of those who mention it. He says his target is to win every race and cross the finish line in Abu Dhabi as world champion!

After the race, standing on the winners podium, Nico Rosberg was obviously unhappy and disgruntled about not winning.

Nico refused to join in with the traditional drivers champagne shower celebration ritual and handed his champagne to Paddy Lowe - (Technical Director at Mercedes).

The Race - (Race 16 / 2015).

It was a difficult and eventful race. First reports said there was no rain expected, but as the race start time approached, the weather changed with winds picking up.

At the start of the race Hamilton managed to get ahead of his team mate Rosberg, squeezing him out onto the run-off area at the first corner. Rosberg dropped back by three or four places on the first lap until he was behind the Red Bulls.

Perhaps this was what caused Rosberg to put on a bad show on the podium, (as explained further above, Rosberg refused to take part in the champagne celebration on the winners podium).

If it were not for that refusal to take part in the traditional podium champagne celebration, I would have said Rosberg was my favorite driver of the race for his fight back to finish second.

Personal Comment.

When the virtual safety car was implemented, even though
I have followed F1 since the mid 1970's, I was confused! So I know that many other spectators / fans must be too. It seems to me that even some of the drivers don't understand where they are in relation to the virtual safety car. I think the 'virtual safety car' is a really stupid and confusing idea for all.

Rosberg fought admirably with Hamilton for first place several more times throughout the race. Each time Hamilton took the lead, obviously not wanting to collide and damage either car, there was plenty of wheel to wheel action from those Mercedes team mates. We hardly needed any of the other drivers to make this race exciting!

QUALIFYING AT USA RACE 16./ 2015.

Qualifying was disrupted by a hurricane that brought down a torrential flood and totally washed out qualifying. There were delays and spin offs during Q1 and Q2, and it was deemed too dangerous to continue, so Q3 did not take place.

Rosberg took the lead from Hamilton, passing him after a struggle through turns 13 - 14 - and 15. However, having got past Hamilton, Hamilton was then called into the pits, over the team radio for a new set of tires. Switching from intermediates to softer slicks, gave Hamilton the edge to catch up with Rosberg again a few laps later.

Meanwhile...

Whilst Hamilton took a lap to get his tires up to operating temperature. In that time both the Red Bulls had pitted. It was too late for Hamilton, by the time he sped down the start / finish straight on his next lap, both the Red Bulls of Kvyat and Ricciardo and his team mate Rosberg were in front.

It was amazing to see the next progress that Hamilton made, slicing through those other world class drivers. This was mainly due to having those softer slicks on.

Jenson Button in his McLaren had also chosen his tires correctly and had put in the fastest lap of the race during this period on slicks where Hamilton fell back whilst his tires came up to operating temperature.

Hamilton took both the Red Bulls, first Kvyat, then a lap later Ricciardo. Kimi Raikkonen had damage on his Ferrari from going off the track and hitting the barrier, although he got the car going again he was later told to ("slow down and box"), and pit as his car was too damaged to continue.

Marcus Ericsson (team Sauber), then broke down on the circuit and a real safety car, (not the virtual safety car), was called out. This effectively put an end to the 10 second lead that Rosberg had gained over his team mate Lewis Hamilton.

Queuing up for a rolling race restart behind the safety car, were Rosberg, Hamilton, Ricciardo, Kvyat, Vettel, (some other drivers took the opportunity to pit for new tires); Rosberg totally aced the restart and took off, pulling away from Hamilton.

It took Hamilton several more laps to catch up with Rosberg, to get to a point where he was in a position to overtake. Up to this point, Rosberg was in charge of the lead and setting the pace.

Then a virtual safety car (for the second time this race), was ordered because of a collision between Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Hulkenberg.

Rosberg was then called in for new tires, and Lewis Hamilton took the lead. Both the Red Bulls pitted for new tires. Kvyat went with medium and Ricciardo went out on slicks.

Hamilton was then left with a dilemma, could he make it to the end of the race without pitting for fresh tires or would he make it to the end of the race? Over the radio, Hamilton and the team were trying to assess the state of the tires. They looked to be OK.

Kvyat then crashed out all by himself, totally his own mistake as he ran wide onto the artificial grass, spun and hit the barrier.

Out came the safety car again!
Hamilton took the opportunity to pit for fresh tires, (as did several other drivers). Rosberg retook the lead again!

This was great, first one then the other, like a game of Russian roulette; Who was going to be left out in front? Lead drivers constantly switching with each safety car. As the safety car came in, Rosberg was in front and sped away from Lewis once again.

Rosberg then made a mistake coming out of turn 16, got a bit of a tank-slapper going and lost time going wide onto the run-off area. Hamilton took the lead once again.

For this F1 Fan, it was the most exciting race of the season. Even the BBC commentary team said this was 'one of the most eventful races; Not only of this season but also of any season of the last few years!' I agree! WOW! I love F1 when it is like this!

Needless to say, Hamilton took it to the finish line from there on. Rosberg did put up a great fight, but in the end Hamilton was the better driver, not putting a wheel wrong throughout the whole race.

I think Rosberg was in a different place mentally to Hamilton, possibly one of anger, from when Hamilton forced him to go wide on the first corner and then from then on, maybe it played on Rosberg's mind throughout the race. Who could blame him for being angry?

Yet, after Rosberg's last mistake on corner 16, letting Hamilton past; he must have been really peed-off with his own performance. Hence, his reaction on the podium.

I was going to call it; Rosberg: man of the race. But, like I said earlier; Because of his refusal to take part in the podium champagne celebration, that spoil't my opinion of Rosberg.

His failure to take part will have a big impact on fans and no doubt, it will be a talking point for weeks to come.

'What a sore loser' I thought!

Great podium for Sergio Perez - Force India - (Previously Eddie Jordans Team), as he prepares to go to his home race at Mexico in a few weeks - the first time F1 has been to Mexico since the 1990's. Race 17 - Mexican Grand Prix. Mexico City, 30 October - 1 November 2015.

It was a shame that we lost Rosberg due to a technical fault on his throttle, this could have been a very different podium, However, it was still a very exciting last few laps to the race.

Valtari Bottas - Crashed out on last lap colliding with Kimi Riakonnen, sent Bottas into a spin, but Massa was able to continue.

Rosberg Starts Russian GP on Pole Position!

Niko Rosberg beat team mate Lewis Hamilton for pole position, of course they are both still front row, so I don't think it will matter too much to Lewis whether he was 1,2 or 2,1. See further below for the Qualifying Results.

Roman Gosjean Crashes out in his Lotus, big style on Lap 13, after losing down-force and running over the marbles, spinning his car out hitting the barrier.

Carlos Sainz races in Russian F1 GP following his high-speed crash in practice.

Carlos was taken to hospital in Sochi as a precaution after smashing head on into barriers at Turn 13, he had approached the turn at 200mph, and hit the side barrier due to his rear wheels locking up under breaking.

Carlos was then just a passenger in a three wheeled wreck that continued straight across a run-off area and into a barrier. The worst of this was that his Torro Rosso car actually went under the barrier. Its a rare thing to see and no doubt, this incident may bring about a change to barrier design to prevent this in the future.

In a BBC report, Both Eddie Jordan and David Coulthard said that the impact estimated at 5g was not a big impact, in fact, under normal driving drivers hit 5g breaking to a stop. The reason why Carlos had to go into to hospital to be checked over, was to do with medical rules and regulations.

F1 to keep Pirelli as the main Tire supplier.

Today 11 October - Bernie Ecclestone announced that he has made a further deal to keep Pirelli as the main Tire supplier, manufacturer for F1 for a further three years.

Bernie said, Pirelli had everything that F1 required, there is no need to change.

Lewis Dominates at Suzuka.

It was a lovely podium screenshot with the German flags either side of the British flag. Hamilton had some problems even though he appeared to glide through the race.

Lewis says he had a flat-spot on one of his front tires, that shook his car so much for about fifteen laps, that he was having blurred vision because of the vibration.

The damage to Lewis's tires was not serious enough to force him to pit for new tires but the effects was giving him a headache with the added concentration and strain of dealing with the vibration. Lewis still made his win look easy!

The Big Story here at Suzuka!

Alonso says "GP2 Engine"

The big story here that developed during the race was about a supposed lack of power from team McLaren's: Honda engine's of both Alonso and Button.

Fernando Alonso was very vocal and public about it, saying: 'GP2 Engine!' repeatedly over the team radio.

In the driver interviews after the race, both drivers indicated that they had problems, and were frustrated with constantly being overtaken because of lack of engine power.

Jenson Button said he was frustrated with being overtaken and constantly falling further and further back, to eventually being lapped.

This is very bad for Honda here in Japan especially since it is their home country race.

It also reverberates throughout other F1 teams who use Honda engines, as this lets non Honda powered teams use this news in marketing their promotional package. (Like other advertisers who would want / or not want to appear alongside Honda with their advertising). Its a money hungry sport!

Max Vonstappen has still to take his driving test when he hits 18 later this week. BBC Sport's David Coulthard asked, 'I suppose you will be looking forward to being able to buy a drink legally at bar when you hit 18?' Vonstappen replied; 'No - in my home country of Belgium, you can legally buy a drink from the age of 16, so I can already do that! but, I am looking forward to passing my driving test!'

Not used to seeing Ferrari in the top three with both cars? Me too, I was devastated not to see Hamilton win as I had predicted, (more so because I lost quite a bit of money on that bet).

Vettel interviewed after the race, said this win gave him a boost. Ferrari had the pace yet just about everyone in the pit lane were surprised to not see Hamilton win.

The big surprise for me was Ricciardo, who would have to be driver of the race for this F1 fan. He stood out from the start of the race, starting second on the grid.

Team Toro Rosso had ordered, (via team orders), for Max Verstappen to let his team mate Carlos Sainz Jnr to pull over. Verstappen ignored that order. We will have to see what penalty Max faces from his team bosses for disobeying orders.

Filipe Nasr (Team Sauber), got stuck on his out-lap to the starting grid and had to retire to the pits. The three front rows were in running order with Mercedes on the front row, Williams cars on the second row and Farrari's in the third.

Only Max Verstappen was on hard tires at the start, everyone else was using medium. Max might have gained positions with hard tires, but would eventually have to switch to medium tires.

It was an eventful start to the race on a fine summers race day, starting out in the first lap there were collisions with the worst possible consequences.. Re - Hitting and taking out team mates cars!

First we saw Maldonado hit his team mate Grosjean, in the Lotus team and both cars were out; Then we saw Alonso hit his team mate Button on the McLaren team. Fortunately there were no injuries, but those race incidents brought out the safety car and backed up the remaining drivers into a parade F1 drivers all chomping at the bit to get going again.

Whilst all this was going on further toward the back of the racing pack, up at the front Hamilton made a great overtake on Bottas moments before the safety car came out.

This predicted twp stop race was going to be hard and hot on tires. Tire wear became a difficult factor to manage for most drivers, especially when following another car and judging breaking points.

On lap four, the Red Bull of Max Verstappen skidded off into a gravel trap and was beached. That choice of starting on hard tires did not pay off me thinks!

My View Point Comment.

I think you have to go with what tires your main competition are using. If everyone else is on medium tires, (you should speculate that), at least you will have an equal chance to compete!

-Perhaps your cars setup will lend its-self to different tire choices than everyone else, but you have to keep in mind that all these F1 cars have so very much in common, due to strict racing safety and design specifications, that it is almost impossible to make any gains in speed and performance over other competitors. This is what makes F1 a drivers race, more than a manufacturers race.

An interesting new feature in this race. is the virtual safety car first seen in back in Montecarlo. It is confusing to the drivers, and Hamilton got it wrong back in Montecarlo! During a virtual safety car period, lights and flags on the circuit, (yellows I think), and main primary lights on the drivers steering wheel display, say when the virtual safety car is out.

During this phase, the drivers have to hold position and speed, which is intended to prevent cars bunching-up and the concertina effect that generates. In my opinion, (whether for safety reasons or not, I don't care), I think this is too much interference.

A natural race obstacle is when drivers are held up by other race incidents. The next level of interference that the rule makers might as well impose, is that drivers shouldn't race each other and might as well only race against the clock. F1 racing is going down the toilet with all these rules and regulations.

No refueling, cars that you can crash into a concrete barrier at 200 kph and walk away unscathed, DRS, traction-control, not allowed to race your team mate, team orders that go against ethical racing and all the rest of this crap is ruining F1. Its not what it was.

I have followed F1 since the late 1960's and seen it all. F1 certainly used to be more exciting although more dangerous. I hate where those drivers sport the 'No-Fear' logo. Yes, they have no-fear, because there is no-danger.

I still enjoy F1, if you can understand that, I like the technical side of F1, but F1 used to be much more enjoyable and exciting than it is now. I support the F1 dumb-ing down argument.

Better drivers that needed more skill to hold a car on the road and drivers that needed backbone and courage to succeed. I reckon if you ask any of the current F1 drivers to race for real at a 1950's through 1970's or even 1990's standard of F1 rules and regulations, they would refuse.

This is why we revere drivers like Brabham, Clark, Moss, Mansel, Stewart, Senna and of course Schumacher and many, many others. Those days are gone forever..

My favorite F1 era was definitely from 1980 - 1990 when I used to attend a lot of the races, and latterly from 1990 through to 2000 when Schuey was at his best.

Driver of the race for this F1 Fan is two fold; Hamilton and Bottas.

First has to be Hamilton because of his fabulous pole position qualifying, then after starting out overtook Bottas with a surprise attack.

Next, Hamilton fell back down to third on the grid and pulled into the pits for his scheduled first stop. The team were right on form in the pit-stop, it was so quick it made me gasp!

Coming out of the pits, Hamilton had dropped even further back to forth. Then Hamilton fought his way back to the front to win the race.

I especially liked what Hamilton had to say after the race, when he said he had to spur himself on for the fans and kept telling himself he could not let them down.

As a Brit, we like to see our local hero win the home race. I think that sentiment goes for every nationality.

Bottas made great progress throughout the race and gave us the most exciting points in the race, even when he was being overtaken by Hamilton!

Bottas left his tire change too late in my opinion and should have come into pit at the same time as his main race competitor Hamilton did.

After Hamilton came out of the pits from his first pit-stop on new tires, Bottas was still ahead, but in reality Bottas had now to stop himself and emerged from the pits behind his own team mate.. He did drive though and I believe blame should lay with the teams race director and planner.

The team should have watched what their nearest competitor was doing and matched it. Just like in boxing, if you don't square up and at least match your opponent, you won't stand a chance.

I think Bottas could have won this race if he had matched Hamilton's race plan!

Nico Rosberg took the lead by the first corner in the race and held it till the end. Then Raikkonen (Ferrari) and Alonso (McLaren) collided and ended-up in the barrier with the McLaren perched atop of the Ferrari, all before the first lap was over!

The next few laps were done behind the safety car. Commentary said that no-one was to blame in the collision, but it seemed to be an error by Alonso who got into an uncontrollable tank-slapper of a squirm then hit Raikkonen who was close behind.

Driver of the race for this F1 fan would be Pastor Maldonado - for his overtaking of Nasr and then Kvyat. Later he had a massive loss of down force whilst on super soft's and snapped right off the race line, then with 'cat-like reactions' (as Culthard commentating for the BBC described it), Maldonado kept hold of the car and got it back under control. Many drivers would have gone off at that point.

I actually missed the Canadian race due to the excitement of the arrival of my first grandchild on 2nd June 2015. He arrive five weeks premature, (maybe he will be a successful F1 driver)?

Being first over the line, (5 weeks early), I had to jump into action and redecorate a bedroom in order to accommodate the new arrival. Not planned to do this until next week!

Make no mistake - Monaco is a hard and demanding street circuit for both drivers and their cars.

The narrow streets are lined with steel and concrete high impact barriers that are there to protect the street buildings and people.

Lewis Hamilton took his first ever pole position at Monte Carlo 2015 with his Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg closing off the front row. This is important because mostly the front runners will always win here as it is almost impossible to overtake.

The real race has already been run, that happened today in qualifying. This is one circuit where qualifying is crucial.

I'm going to leave this days (Saturday qualifying), foreword and not change it. You will see I am probably going to be right, the qualifying result will dictate the race result or at least the race order.

What was amazing was how Daniel Ricciardo was able to get the fastest lap time during the race! Verstappen had a big collision with Grosjean - they were driving and fighting well with each other in lap 63. Then, suddenly, just as the BBC reporters were saying how well Grosjean (as a newer driver in F1), is doing; SLAM - Verstappen hit the right rear of Grosjean's car with his front left.

It was clearly Verstappen's fault in my opinion, yet everyone and his dog, (let's blame the dog); was saying it was Grosjean's fault for braking early. Not so, Romain did not even change position. In fact if anything, the point of collision was exactly where you'd expect Grosjean to be braking and turning in for the right-hander! Yet, he showed great experience and judgement and seemed to be giving Verstappen plenty of room so that this sort of thing wouldn't happen.

Why everyone (including Verstappen), was blaming Grosjean was because he is the relative newbie on the circuit. Look, its simple - Verstappen hit Grosjean in the rear, in a well documented braking zone area! (Even if it is just a lift-off or a tap on the brake)! What's Grosjean supposed to do, use telepathy to project his intention to brake? (Did you hear me screaming at the TV)?

Verstappen had already hit the back of Maldonado on lap 6. Everyone forgot to mention that whilst they were busy blaming Grosjean for Verstappen crashing into Grosjean on lap 63 later in the race. Luckily the FIA saw and remembered. If we were nominating the most aggressive driver of the race, that would certainly go to Verstappen this race.

The Verstappen Verdict.

When all was said by the sports commentators from several different programs, the race FIA officials did the right thing anyway and gave Verstappen a five position penalty for the start of the next race and (no-doubt a hefty fine), plus two penalty points! Nice!! Exactly the right thing to do.

Max Verstappen was pushing too hard, (see the race and look what at what he was doing), after his pit stop he was using Vettel (who had previously overtaken Verstappen), to slip by other drivers. All you can do is say that Verstappen was good at tailgating to get-by other drivers. Its like mugging those other drivers, not clean and obvious overtaking.

During Verstappen's pit stop there was a problem with a wheel nut that delayed Verstappen, he came out of the pits in a temper in my opinion. Forcing his way round. (I remember thinking that if Schumacher had done that, everyone would have been on Schuey's case about driving aggressively).

After the pit disaster, Verstappen caught up with Vettel who had already lapped him and used him as a ram to get past Sainz and then Bottas both on the same lap. However, this advantage came to an end when Lotus saw what he was doing and radioed forward to Grosjean and Grosjean closed the door on Verstappen. (Which he is quite within his racing rights to do).

I think Verstappen decided to go past full throttle with no intention to brake, you saw the gap open slightly and then close up too fast for Verstappen to react. It was his own fault. It crossed my mind that I thought Verstappen had an engine failure as he suddenly dropped back. That was him letting off momentarily before he floored-it to try and get past Grosjean.

Hamiltons Hopes Gone Up In Smoke.

I think Hamilton could even blame his race loss on Verstappen, (and his smoking wreck of a car after the barrier attacked Max V. - I'm sure Max V. would blame anyone and everything else before he blamed himself). because if it wasn't for that incident, (which could have been avoided if Verstappen wasn't such a hot head), Hamilton wouldn't have been brought in by his team for a tire change whilst the safety car was holding up the race).

The team was at fault there. The teams race director / planner should have let Lewis decide if he should come in for a tire change with only about 15 laps to go.

Next - There is a new F1 feature called the 'Virtual Safety Car' - a system that slows all the cars, it confused the situation, (I have not heard of this 'virtual safety car' before myself, so I was wondering what was happening), Obviously the teams were confused. - then out came the real safety car.. So why have a virtual safety car - I thought?

This is where Hamilton lost his position. The team was confused and released Hamilton too early - that's what the team claimed later after the race. They were apologising to Hamilton for their error. A team error. Hamilton was leaving the pits after a routine tire change and got his nose slightly forward of the lead car and crossed the safety cars line that he is not supposed to cross as he exits the pit.

Under the safety car rules, you have to not gain any positions. Hamilton was now third - Bang went his race and all that hard work.

***Here’s the continuation of what I said before the start of the race!

I predict the only change will be where some cars will crash out due to lapses in concentration or shunts mainly at the start and possibilities for collisions throughout the race. However I predict the order will remain quite the same as the qualifying order. I'm not afraid to leave my prediction here, (even if I'm totally wrong), I will leave this as a reminder that we cannot always predict what is going to happen in a race 100%.

Here's the first ten runners qualifying order.

Hamilton

Rosberg

Vettel

Ricciardo

Kvyat

Raikkonen

Perez

Sainz

Maldonado

Verstappen

Grosjean got 11th however he will be taking a 5 position penalty for a gearbox change. So this will mean Jenson Button, Hulkenberg, Massa, and Alonzo will move up in front of Grosjean.

Next will be Nasr, Bottas, Ericsson, Stevens and Merhi. Lets see how this plays out!

Is this Monaco race won in the qualifying session?

As a quick look - as I said before the race, the drivers order did stay more or less the same. They swapped positions in three's in the first six positions.

Quali = Ham / Ros / Vet / --- / Ric / Kvy / Rai / ---

Race = --- / Ros / Vet / Ham / --- / Kvy / Ric / Rai

Quali = / Pere / Sain / Mald / Vers / Gros / Butt

Race = / Pere / Butt / Nas / Sain / (Out of the points) > Hulk / Gros

Quali = / Hulk / Mass / Alon / Nas / Bota / Eric / Stev / Meri.

Race = / Eric / Bott / Mass / Meri / Stev /

Race = Vers / Alonso / Mald - (These don't matter as they are out).

It wasn't a definitive YES this time, but you can at least see that grouping stays similar in the first and second three drivers groups. Those drivers in the last four point gaining positions were all messed up this race, because of the big crash out by Verstappen on lap 63.

So, that's the beauty of F1, it's not predictable nor is F1 boring.

Driver of the Race is two fold for this F1 fan. First this goes to Grosjean, for not tearing into Verstappen for trying to blame him for his own mistake. Verstappen owes Grosjean a public apology for that. Also, Grosjean's skill at holding the car after Verstappen shunted him off the track, it could have been a lot worse.

Secondly Vettel - who drove wonderfully and gave us the best overtaking action we saw. His pit team turned the car around fast too. - I did expect overtaking to be difficult if not impossible here, but when it does happen, it is nearly always spectacular at Monaco. (Even when Verstappen overtook Maldonado - -wow (that was close to disaster) but very exciting to see).

F1 Spanish Grand Prix 2015

Typically, as was pointed out several times by the BBC Sport F1 commentary team, the pole sitters or front row won the race as has happened in each of the past eight years F1 races here at Catalunya. It seemed to be an uneventful race except for the odd bump here and there.

This circuit has a few unusual idiosyncrasies. First it is laid out on a hill-side, so it presents uphill and downhill routes. This decreases and increases breaking points and distances respectively.

Next, this circuit can experience high winds that buffer the cars sideways. These winds are the natural airflow up the hill-sides. Some drivers cannot adapt quickly enough as the winds change direction rapidly.

Lastly, because of the high temperatures in Spain tire wear is often higher. A harder compound is often a better choice on this circuit, but a lot of the drivers appeared to go for the softer compounds.

Tire wear usually depends upon race strategy, two stops can get cars through the race, but unusually, three steps can shorten the race time, by changing tires more often to keep new fresh rubber on the track and improve grip throughout the race.

The retirement of Alonso at lap 28 was most spectacular, when he came into the pits fast and hot and nearly ran over his pit crew because of break failure. (Nearly ran his front jack man over but he managed to sidestep Alonso's overshoot of the pit area).
They retired his car immediately.

In another similar incident Romain Grosjean did actually hit his front jack man, ramming the jack handle into his stomach and pushing him about five feet.

The front jack man was OK though and was seen with an ice pack on his stomach, watching the rest of the race from his chair in the pit crew area. (With a promise of a beer later from Romain, he was laughing about the incident).

Probably these pits area overshoots, (blamed on lack of breaking power or faulty breaks), are in-fact a resulting effect of the harder breaking (and increased break wear), required on the downhill parts of the track. No one mentioned this in commentary.

This was an awesome race - the stuff real races are made of. If you didn't see it, it is definitely a keeper for the collection of great races.. I did have to go out on an emergency in the middle of the race and will need to watch it again on iPlayer - I don't know if this next link will work for you are they are specific to region and my IP I think. if not just search for iplayer Bahrain F1 GP.

Personal Comment.

Looking forward to the race this weekend - temperature on track may well prove a change to the podium, (I still want Lewis to win), but tire management in higher temperatures like at Bahrain will prove crucial to the outcome of the race.

OK you may say - 'what heat' this is a night race! It is still very warm in Bahrain even at night. The other major unique problem here at Bahrain will be the drivers having to drive under a lit circuit. Those lights and dazzle, will stress some drivers and wear down their concentration level faster, rather like working under office lights all day. This is not going to just be like another day at the office!

No German F1.
I will miss not seeing the German F1 this year, and I was hoping that by some miracle, the race would be slotted into the calendar at the last minute. If this were the British F1 - It would be unthinkable to even consider losing it, so I am really upset for German F1 fans. How would you even deal with this? Its worse even than losing an FA cup, because they are not even getting a home race!

Bernie Eccleston, said in an interview with Eddie Jordan for BBC Sport that, he had done all he could to help the German circuit host a race this year, even taking 50% losses to help financially. He said the rest was up to them. I'm sure the German circuit will be back on the calendar next year.

Man of the Race!

Man of the race for this F1 Fan was Max Verstappen, even though he had a DNF when his gearbox locked up his back wheels and prematurely ended his race. Why? - His overtaking maneuvers were classic F1 stuff that movies are made about.

Opinion and Comment

I personally think that Max Verstappen could be a future world champion. If he keeps pulling moves like he did in his Chinese 2015 F1 race here today. Reminds me of a young Michael Schumacher with those absolutely great overtakes.

As we start this last race of the season, this race is going to be about the battle for the championship between Hamilton and Rosberg.

Lewis Hamilton is best inline for the championship. Hamilton only needs second or first place to win. Hamilton's team mate Rosberg needs to win and for Hamilton to finish third at the most in order to get the championship win from Hamilton.

Rosbergs car started to develop DRS problems at about lap 27 with Hamilton already way in front. A few laps later it seemed that Rosberg had resigned himself to just trying to finish the race, over the radio he asked his engineers, 'just get me in the top six';

Rosberg's engine management was being controlled from the garage and they had turned down his cars performance we think, they had also told Rosberg, 'We can turn your car back up whenever you are ready'.

At this stage it is more important for Rosberg just to finish and hope that Hamilton's car lets him down or Hamilton has some sort of mishap that takes him out of the race.

Ten laps later Rosberg is still having problems, adding tire wear to the list even though he has already pitted and had new tires.

Lap 41 and Rosberg has a big struggle to keep his car inline, his tires certainly are losing grip. Hamilton also has his engine management 'turned down' as he has just been telling the engineers over the radio on lap 43 'Please don't turn up my car', everything must be working well with the car.

Inevitably Nico Rosgberg's car gives up at lap 51 Rosberg is crawling along losing places, Nico just wants to finish the race no doubt. The car would have no more scheduled races after this race anyway. Hamilton's Championship is assured. In the garage - Rosbergs side has been cleared ready for his car.

The engineers have just said 'box box box' over the radio to Rosberg, but as I just wrote and guessed correctly, he asked 'I'd like to go through to the end if possible' and they confirmed that Nico could drive to the end of the race!

Summary
It was a shame that Rosberg's car let him down in the end. He is driver of the race for this F1 fan for his determination to drive to the end of the race, even when his engineers had advised him to come in. (I don't think he would have obeyed that instruction anyway - so they really had to let him stay out).

Also for Nicos gracious defeat, such a nice guy, sportsman and gentleman; he did the right thing respectfully saying that Lewis deserved to win the race today. That is the sportsmanship we love to see. I think he really is pleased to see Lewis win, he and Lewis have been friends since their karting days.

We look forward now to next years championship.

Nico Rosberg needed to win this race and Lewis Hamilton's spin basically handed the race to Rosberg. Lewis had been leading the race and was actually faster than Rosberg up to the point where he span-out, Hamilton must have damaged his tire balance, (flat-spotting them or something similar).

BBCF1 - Hamilton Quote: Lewis Hamilton says the spin "cost me the win", adding: "I was a much quicker up to that point. I went a second quicker on the next lap, thought I was going to pit on that lap, used all my tyres and on the next lap there was nothing left.

"I locked the rear and went wide. No-one's mistake but mine. It was a great race pushing right to the finish, which is what motor racing's all about." #BBCf1.

Driver of the race for this F1 fan is Lewis Hamilton for a fantastic drive. He kept the pressure on and pace was consistent throughout the race weekend.

Here we are after the break, too long a break for F1 I think.
There is controversy in F1 over the way teams are being treated and we've just heard news of a possible boycott of this race by some of the teams. Eddie Jordan reporting for the BBC said that a boycott wouldn't happen because teams will lose funding from F1 if they boycott.

Jenson Button qualified seventh, but dropped five grid places for a gearbox change.
Daniil Kvyat qualified fourteenth, but was dropped ten grid positions for an engine change.
Sebastian Vettel qualified way back in seventeenth and started from pit lane for a complete power unit change.

Take a look at the starting grid after qualifying, (second image below), the first six drivers are in the same race order in relation to each other, as they were when they started. - Interesting?? A bit of a strange race me thinks?? Exciting but unusual!

Hamilton has won four races in a row - previously a record held by Schumacher and then last year Vettle did it.

I was pleased to hear the Russian TV presenter who interviewed the three podim winners, pronounce Ricciardo's name correctly. Something most of the current TV presenters are not doing.

F1 Race 16 RUSSIA (Sochi) 10 - 12 October 2014.

Inaugral Russian F1 Race
This new Russian circuit is described as a fast street curcuit. At 3.6 miles / 5.8 klm to lap, it is one of the longest on the F1 calendar. It will need 53 laps to complete a race. Sochi is a tourist resort that does mainly get Russian visitors currently. Russia is not everyones first thought as a usual holiday destination, such as Spain, France, Italy, (or even the UK).

It looks like a fabulous race circuit, (I can't wait, its feels like Christmas). I was surprised to see the sunny curcuit conditions, with reporters walking about in their shirt-sleves and fans in T-shirts like on a Spanish F1 circuit. I probably had a presumtion that Russia was a cold, rainy, icy and windy place like we often see in western films. Obviously I am mistaken! Not a bit of snow in sight. Many people might have thought like I did.

F1 Sochi - Russia 53 laps = 309 km converts to 192m Race distance is 2 hours or 305 km; (or 200 miles is what we used to say). Race Distance Rule - Clik here!

The unique special factor about this circuit, is that the temprature changes over time are greater than at most other tracks around the world. (Not counting total weather changes of course). Where at most circuits you might get a few degrees of change throughout the race, if the weather stays the same; Here at Sochi, normal temparature changes will move through about 8 degrees over the race time.

This means that the drivers will have to watch out more for front tires losing heat more rapidly than the rears. (As David Coulthard reporting for the BBC, was just saying during the Sochi F1 race commentarty); The rear tires, especially those softer compounds, will hold their heat longer and more easilly than the fronts. The other issue is that the length and corner designs of this circuit may require a hard compound tire to complete the race. We just don't really know at this point.

Lap 40.
This is turning out to be an exciting circuit. Now at lap 40 of 53 as I write, we see that there is plenty of room to overtake but because of the high speeds, drivers run the risk of flatspotting their tires at every overtake. You are forgiven, if you think that most of the flatspotting mistakes might be due to drivers not knowing the circuit; But, F1 drivers can learn and adapt to a new or different circut more easily than you'd expect.

These flatspotting mistakes are purely due to the high pressure the circuit puts on the drivers and their cars. It is a demanding circuit. Its like an opposit track to Monacco.

One Car for Marussia-Ferrai- Jules Bianchi.
Marussia-Ferrai are only running one car this race, in respect of Jules Bianchi's crash at lap 41 in Japan last week. The team said they want to pay-respect to Jules by not running his car this weekend.
Jules Bianchi will not be in this race and is still in a serious condition in hospital.

During the Last Race in Japan...
At 19:00 UK BST time, we heard that Jules Bianchi had serious head injuries; Which, considering the high safety standards in the cars cockpit and all the extra neck support and helmet high impact specifications, means he must have gone out with quite a bang.

This F1 Fans Opinion on Jules Bianchi - Marussia-Ferrari.
I respect that the team want to show their concern and respect for Jules Bianchi, but I think that Jules would want the team to do well even without him. If they had have ran Jules' car, another new driver would get a chance to show what he or she could do. It would also shake up the race having an unknown new driver in place.

What About The Marussia-Ferrari Sponsors?
On the flip side of Jules wanting the team to do well without him, the team should concern itself more with its sponsors. Let me ask you, if your company had paid hundreds of thousands to have your name displayed on two cars and two drivers, then you only get one, surely you should get half your money back?

Sponsorship is the lifeblood of F1, without it, your team dies. I'm sure they will get by this time and the team is not in a position to win any accolades this season, but if I were a sponsor, I'd see this as giving up. I might well want to sponsor a different team next season / or next race.
