Comment on Sewer Restrictive Covenant Will Remain In Place by Allen County residence

Allen Country Residence,

Some of the residence of Homestead Acres (who are not officially part of H.A) have roughly 4-5 acres in the metes and bounds area of the subdivision. Well enough land, legally I might add, to support today's current decentralized waste water technology. Do a bit of research and look up decentralized waste water treatment. You'll see a plethora of information on this subject.

The homes in the front of the edition can benefit from the sewer as their lots are considerably smaller, even though we treat waste water on lots smaller than those every day.

The root of the problem lies within the government's inability to manage decentralized waste water treatment as they do centralized treatment and this comes at a considerable cost both short and long-term.

However, the truly disappointing factor is that homeowners are not afforded the option and breadth of tools to responsibly manage their own waste water system as they do their car, appliances and overall home. It's referred to as "self-sustainability". Once the decision is made you must follow the law regardless of your individual situation and hook up to the grid.

Another contentious item is the "waiving of our annexation rights". What has that got to do with cleaning up our immediate environment? Evidently, this is how we manage centralized waste water treatment.

The ultimate goal of protecting our environment seems to come at a considerable cost to some tax paying residence of Allen County.

Sincerely,

Allen County Taxpayer

Comment on Firekeepers Casino by Eric

As a former resident who currently works in the casino industry I would be psyched to see a casino go up in Fort Wayne. I'm actually hoping for it so that I might return to be closer to family. That part being said, the economic impact alone would, both in temporary construction jobs and then long term full and part-time jobs would help to re-vitalize the workforce. The size of the casino I think would complement FTW nicely would probably employ between 800-1500 people depending on actual size and if a hotel/convention center also accompanies it. It would probably have about 35 table games and 1500 slot machines. The dining options would be around 5 and would probably include a buffet, burger joint, and a steakhouse at the very least. Yeah, I know FTW really doesn't need more restaurants but casino venues are a constant source of business from the gambling crowd. I understand the arguments against them such as possible increased crime, pawn shops, and the theory that relationships and marriages will crumble as people gamble away their mortgages. Most of the people I encounter are responsible gamblers. I'm sure some gamble beyond their means, but who am I too judge what they can and cannot afford to gamble with. If not here they will go to Michigan City, Chicago, Detroit, Vegas etc. Keep that money in FTW, and bring in tourists from the region and give another exciting entertainment option when trying to draw in national and regional conventions. As far as crime, I ask you to look at what has put FTW in the national news the past few years. Crime will always be around, a casino doesn't breed it. With the proper security and police presence a casino could be a real asset to the city with the Grand Wayne Center, Tin Caps, and other entertainment options available to the public. Again, I hope a casino is considered for the area, even if one is constructed on the out-skirts of town and not necessarily downtown. If the land was available, downtown would be the best place for it.

It was a dumb thing to do. But if it makes you feel better, a follow-up article says that the couple did this because they thought the kids would find it exciting. I believe them. I think if the kids fully understood what kind of danger they were in, they would have fled. This was a case of stupidity, not sadism.

I also voted for Paul and Mourdock. I do not live in FWCS so I could not vote on that bond issue. That being said I own real estate and tangible business personal proeprty in FWCS so when the bond issue passes my taxes will go up a small amount.

In response to Tori's comment :
"Renaissance Square is a great idea… IN THEORY. Unfortunately, in practice, the area will be nice for a year or two, but a few years down the road, it will be run down, weeded, and a very expensive eyesore."

The policy with maintaining the grounds are pretty clear in the contract, tenants are required to mow and water their grass and maintain the shrubbery and flowers including all landscaping issues after summer 2013. Renaissance Pointe is very particular about it.
