Mike and Sheminith Post-Nup Slideshow

Mike and Sheminith got married last January 25, 2013 but they never had their pre-nup photo shoot. After a year, they decided to have one. It is not yet too late to have your own pre-nup.
These two were my classmates in high school. Who would have thought they would end up together?
The photos were taken by a Nikon D5100 with Nikorr 50mm f/1.8G lens and edited in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.

Sunrise Engagement Shoot Idea in Naga, Cebu

Last February 15, 2014, I attended a Valentine's Day Concert in Inayagan, Naga, Cebu. We had a pool party after it and for me, it was the coolest party I've ever been. It ended until one or two in the morning so I and my friends decided to stay until the sun rise up.

When it was six in the morning, we decided to go to the beach and witness the sunrise and took several pictures.

How To Shoot Sunrise?

Since this is a landscape photography, the aperture to be used is between f/8 to f/16. I was on Manual Mode and Manual Focus so it was easy for me to switch shutter speed and aperture. It was daytime so I was using ISO 100. The lens attached to my camera is the 50mm f/1.8G lens and I am happy with this lens because it is super fast.

Settings: 1/100ƒ/16ISO 10050 mm

Fortunately, a bird passed by as a good subject with this sunrise. I remember the photography workshop I attended that a sunrise or sunset is better when someone or something passed by in front of the camera and capture it.

Settings: 1/100ƒ/8ISO 10050 mm

I usually cropped the image like it was zoomed. With the fast lens I have, if I zoomed or cropped the image, it is still sharp.

I called up my friends as my subjects while the sun was rising and act up as if they were engaged couple. I just directed them what to do to make it romantic. Haha!

Jophael and Zerla Wedding

My relatives and I were invited to a cousin's wedding last October of 2013 so I got the opportunity to try shooting a wedding. I was not the official photographer but I shoot as a guest. I was already aware that I should not interfere the official photographers around.

I was happy with my shots and felt like I was the second photographer. Hehe!

This is my first time of taking photos on a wedding using a DSLR camera and purchasing 50 mm 1.8G is not a regret.

Daniel Padilla Concert Live in Naga last July 2013

This is a very late post but I will going to share these pictures here on this blog of Daniel Padilla during his concert here in City of Naga Cebu last July 2013. Fortunately, I got three free tickets from Cebu Barkada with my mom and sis.

This is the first time I used the Nikkor 50mm F/1.8G lens for a concert especially that the lights on the stage were so distracting. Sometimes I got good shots, sometimes bad.

The photos were originally in landscape so I decided to crop the photos into 8"x10" through Adobe Photoshop. The pictures were taken as is with no further edits.

Basic Photography Workshop Experience

This October, I and my friends went to Manila and visited Intramuros. I was envious that there was a Basic Photography Workshop for a certain fee. Oh, how I wish I could stay in Manila and join the workshop but it would be expensive. So by the time I came back to Cebu, Cebu Shooters Guild (CSG) created a workshop for free on basic photography so I grabbed the opportunity to learn from the pro for free.

I wasn't so keen on taking notes but I am hoping that I could still remember what I've learned from the mentor Jan Mat. The discussion was not too technical, good thing because I am not good at it. The elements I need to remember in photography: light, camera and subject.

Make good use of the natural light. We don't need expensive flashes and strobes unless you are working in a photo studio. Even though you're just inside the house, as long as there is light from a window or an open door then it's okay. We had an exercise using our hand to find the light, it's a technique where you can place the subject.

The camera, either it's a digital or film slr, as long as you can manually adjust the camera then you're ready to go.

The subject, in our discussion it was about portraits. In portraits, you can ask your friend to be your model for the photo shoot. After all the discussions, we had an activity to apply the things we learned from the workshop. Of course, the settings like ISO, Aperture and Shutter speed were also included. We also had a glimpse in Photoshop and Lightroom.

Since it was all portraits, most of us have the 50 mm prime lens f/1.8 or any lens that has a wide aperture of at least f/2.8. The wider aperture, the better because it renders natural and beautiful background blur.

Shooting Fireworks - My First Time

Today, City of Naga in Cebu celebrated its 6th Charter Day as the current mayor of the city is also celebrating his birthday. A while ago, there was a 5-minute fireworks display (actually I didn't know it was only 5 minutes until it ended). I had no idea how to shoot fireworks so I decided to search through Google what are the settings to be used for the said shot.

Settings: 2 secƒ/11ISO 10050 mm

I tried using the 50 mm prime lens and very anxious about it since I had no freedom to use a wide angle lens. So it was challenging for me and my tripod is not sturdy enough. As I was fixing my camera, there went the explosion. I was not really that ready at all. Forgive me for being a noob.

Settings: 2 secƒ/11ISO 10050 mm

I tried using the aperture f/2.8 but it was overexposed so I was using f/11 all the time. As what I've said earlier, I never thought that the fireworks display was just too short. I would love to play a smaller f-stop at least f/5.6 but I did not get the chance.

All in all, I only got 23 shots and all of them are not that impressive but still I'm happy that I have experienced to shoot some fireworks. May be, if only the fireworks lasted for 20 to 30 minutes, I would have the chance to improve some of my shots.

I'm using Adobe Lightroom for some retouching. I got the process from this site but this is the process I use:

+17% for the Contrast
- 100% for Blacks
+5% for Saturation

Lazy Day - a Self-Portrait

Last Wednesday of August 21, 2013, I got bored and got nothing to do. Few days before that, I purchased some e-books about photography at the app store so I had that itchy feeling to take some snapshots. Well, I have taken photos of our cats inside the house and sort of a boring subject already. Hehe! I need a human to pose for me but to no avail.

I saw my liquid eyeliner I purchased few months ago and decided to apply it for some practice. I found some tutorial for some techniques but I'm no make-up artist. I even uploaded a selfie on Instagram for the result of my make-up. That's when I decided to create a self-portrait.

The photo shoot took place at the Playboy Mansion. Haha just kidding! My free tripod with low quality broke down so I just used the table. I used the sofa covered with white cloth for me to pose.

Settings: 1/8, f/4, ISO 400, 24 mm

Settings: 1/6, f/4, ISO 400, 22 mm

For photo enhancement, I was using Adobe Lightroom 4. Instead of black and white, I chose sepia tone. I scrolled for a positive exposure of my choice to get that soft feeling.

The Nifty Fifty Project

I am happy to start this project because I am inspired from the different websites I get into. So now that I got this AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G, I go out and practice shooting.

I created a subdomain for the Nifty Fifty Project. There, the blog would look minimal in design but with several snapshots, of course. This is an open-end project. I can post several photos all about 50 mm shots. I am excited for this self-study photography.

Happy 115th Independence Day to my country, the Philippines! I am happy to be back with a new set of photos for this blog. I am happy to announce that I now have a dSLR camera, a Nikon D5100. This is really a dream come true for me and this blog.

This afternoon, I decided to have a photo walk around my town or city, Naga, with my mom. I took several pictures but I chose to post these 5 photos first. I found these photos very dramatic. When the sun was going to set, the city turned on the lights.

These images you can see right now are not edited through Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom. I just let it stay the way it is.

Photo Restoration Project 2 - Face Replacement

So I have a fond memory with this image. This is the project I had in high school with our computer subject. Since Smallville was a big hit and I am a fan of Tom Welling, I decided to browsed any images with Clark and Lana. Haha! So I found this one.

I didn't have a nice picture of myself that fits the face of Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk) so I only got 95% for the project but not bad enough because of the humor that was playing on my mind. Actually, the picture above was not the original image I submitted to my teacher but a revised one. My face that was replaced on Lana Lang's was a picture when I was a college student.

The original image I submitted to my teacher was created through Adobe Photoshop but the revised image was created through the combination of GIMP and Fireworks. I have trouble using with the two image enhancing soft wares because I am not used to it until now. I prefer Adobe Photoshop.

Photo Restoration Project

I just want to showcase here some of the photos I edited or restored using Adobe Photoshop. The original photo was heavily damaged so I need to restore the old photo with no blemishes and background imperfection. The ears of the little boy are also damaged in the picture so I needed to replace it with another ears of another black boy found in Google images.

Behind the photo: We went to the cemetery at night together with my mom, aunt, sister, cousin, nephew and niece. Since there were lots of candles in that place, I tried some candle or candle light photography. Actually it can be found in Olympus camera because there is a setting for that. Good thing my nephew, niece and my sister participated for this little photo session of mine. My cousin who is the mother of my nephew and niece appreciated the result of the photos because at first thought it was like taken from a DSLR camera.

Hand Painted T-shirts

We hand paint your t-shirts (old or new). For this picture, I used my old PE t-shirt in college and wore it around the campus when I was still a student. Until now I am still wearing it at home or anywhere I want to go. We have lots of old t-shirt stocked inside our closet and we felt it is already outdated and we chose not to wear them anymore.

To give it a twist, why not put your favorite anime on your old or new t-shirt? Actually, I really don't know the name of this anime character but I found this one sexy so I drew and painted this by hand.

In Memory of the Three Little Kittens, Only One Survivor

Behind the photo: These four little kittens have different dads. Their mother is a stray cat and we call her Mother Blackie. The four kittens were named Mutya, Sylvestera, Tigger and Lil Blackie. Only Lil Blackie survived. The three kittens already died because they were sick. All of them were coughing and sneezing. All cats and kittens were having cat flu. This is the first time I edited the photos into Black and White because if these were colored, there are things that are not pleasing to the eyes. As what I've said these kittens were sick while I took these pictures. Mutya died first, then Sylvestera and lastly, Tigger. It was very sad for us.
