Al concorso hanno partecipato fotografi professionisti, fotogiornalisti e fotodocumentaristi provenienti da tutto il mondo. In totale erano in gara 103.481 immagini realizzate da 5.666 di 124 Paesi.

"Che fotografo sono? Sono un misuratore di spazi: arrivo in un luogo e mi sposto come un rabdomante alla ricerca del punto di vista. Cammino avanti e indietro, la cosa importante è cercare la misura giusta tra me, l’occhio e lo spazio. L’azione fondamentale è lo sguardo, la foto è la memoria tecnica fissata di questo sguardo. ma c’è bisogno di tempo, la foto d’eccellenza è contemplativa».

"Credo che molto spesso il concetto sia sopravvalutato. Quando vedo una foto voglio sentire che mi dica qualcosa, senza che debba per forza pensare". 



Ciò che colpisce delle immagini di Todd Hino è la luce. Una luce inquietante, circondata da un buio che sembra farsi largo per sommergerla.
