Don’t panic!

Here is a small guidance for reading your I Ching Horoscope. Using this algorithm you will focus on the right things at the right time when analyzing your divination.

1. Begin from “Hexagrams” section on the “Horoscope Summary” page

Start analyzing your divination from “Birthday Hexagrams” section in “Horoscope Summary” page. Both of your birthday hexagrams – Pre-Heaven and Later Heaven Hexagram are given here. Notice which years of life are governed by each line of a hexagram.

Note: Do not forget about bubble help, which appears if you point your mouse cursor at any small question mark  () which are scattered on all pages. Also, do not forget about button on the upper right corner of the program which can display the help describing basic principles of hexagram analysis.

2. Open Pre- or Later Heaven Hexagram page

Depending on your age, go to Pre- or Later Heaven Hexagram page. Read a description of your birthday hexagram. This is the main description of forces that influence your life. On this step it is important to understand the principles of hexagram analysis so don’t disregard reading of bubble help. Shortly, you should consider:

• The action of a hexagram is from the bottom to the top;
• Even though the hexagrams are formed in the sixth stage of the evolution of Yin and Yang, they are most frequently considered as being made up two trigrams;
• The bottom trigram symbolize generally the inner aspect of the hexagram action, and the top trigram symbolize the outer aspect of hexagram action;
• In a trigram, the top line represents heaven, the middle line, man, and the bottom line, earth
• In the hexagram, lines 1 and 2 represent earth; lines 3 and 4, man; and lines 5 and 6, heaven;
• Lines 2 and 5 are generally the most favorable. Lines 2 and 5 are in the middle (most balanced) position of the bottom trigram and the top trigram;
• Lines 2, 3, 4 and 5 represent the principal action of the hexagram in most cases;
• The ruler of a hexagram is usually line 5, or else a single Yang or Yin amongst five of the opposite polarity;
• Line 1 reflecting the basis of action or considerations before the activity can commence;
• Line 6 representing a decline after the peak of activity or the result of the overabundance of action;
• There is correspondence between lines 1 and 4; lines 2 and 5; and lines 3 and 6. The correspondence is favorable if the upper of the two lines is a Yang and the lower a Yin;
• The hexagram can be considered as the ’cause’ and the controlling line the resultant ‘effect’.

Treat each line of birthday hexagram like a path which you can follow in your life. From this point of view, hexagram can provide you an understanding in which direction you should improve yourself to achieve the best and harmonious position. Understand a hexagram like a situation which develops with the lapse of time and each line as a stage in this development.

3. Go to the “Omens” section on the “Horoscope Summary” page

Look through the “Omens” section on the “Horoscope Summary” page. Point to a question mark near an omen to see its description. Omens are pretty important, they exert influence on general level of auspiciousness.

4. Analyze your Yearly and Daily Hexagrams

Read a description of a hexagram for the current year. It can provide you an understanding how you can behave to be successful this year.

Daily advices from the Daily Hexagrams page may seem pretty odd. All advices are abstract. Try to imagine for what situations this advice will be suitable today.

5. Go to the “Yearly Hexagram Statistics” section on on “Horoscope Summary” page

Here you can see your life-lessons. The graph shows how many times each hexagram occurs as Yearly Hexagram. Usually several hexagrams occur more often than the others. You can read a description for any hexagram from your statistic if you’ll click on the small button (List of all hexagrams).

Yes, this is impossible, because each person has it’s own social position, it’s own character, relatives and many other things. People repeat frequent mistake – they try to treat the astrology as exact science. People do such comparison with exact science and expect that astrology should give them strict answers like mathematical formula. They assume that astrology says about destiny which is some fixed and computational thing. If everything was so easy!

I think, the astrology should be considered from the practical point of view. When reading I Ching Horoscope the one should concentrate upon deriving the useful information from it. The one should gain knowledge and wisdom from readings which could help to improve ones life. And it is possible! I Ching is a guide to a spiritual development, the essence of philosophy of Change. In the table with Yearly Hexagrams favorable years are marked – “O” and unfavorable years are marked – “*”. Let’s talk about how the program determines unfavorable years.

If a hexagram for some year is the “opposite” or the “reverse” hexagram of either Pre- or Later Heaven Hexagram, this year is considered to be unfavorable.

The “opposite” hexagram is that hexagram in which every Yang line is replaced by Yin line, and vice versa – every Yin by Yang.

Example of Pre-heaven hexagram and its opposite hexagram:

Natal (Pre-heaven or Later Heaven) hexagram - 14 (Great Posessing).

The opposite hexagram - 8 (Pi. Uniting)

The reverse hexagram is that obtained by turning the natal hexagram upside-down, for example:

Natal (Pre-heaven or Later Heaven) Hexagram. 19. Lin. Approach.

The reverse (upside-down) hexagram 20. Kuan. Contemplation.

Years marked as unfavorable aren’t fated to be unfavorable! Remember, that each man has free will and each man is the builder of his own destiny.

How many times you had a situation when you wanted to read commentaries to a particular hexagram which, for example, often occured in your Yearly Hexagram Statistics? Before this update you have had to search it in the web or elsewhere.

“Will the person you marry change you?” … In the BaZi perspective, strictly speaking – the answer is No. Because your BaZi chart is fixed the moment you were born. The chart doesn’t change just because you married someone.

However, having said that – the person you marry has the greatest INFLUENCE over you. Simply because – PROXIMITY – is the most powerful influence in life.

And what if you are married to a loser? Don’t you think day in day out his behavior would influence you more than just a bit? But did your BaZi chart change as a result of marrying a loser?

Nope. You are still the same you, with the same chart.

Will your BaZi chart change (and turn you into a spiteful and vengeful person, never trusting any other men on earth) just because you found out your spouse had an affair?

Nope. You still have the SAME chart.

So technically – you are the same you.

But the question is – are you behaving at the ‘healthiest’ level of your BaZi chart? Or perhaps are you behaving at the most ‘unhealthiest’ level? Many people didn’t know this could be a conscious CHOICE.

Generally, if your partner’s chart contains many of your favourable elements, you would find that he/she is a positive influence in your life. Conversely, if your partner’s chart contains many clashes with you or worst, contains many of your negative elements – you will find that in the long run he/she is a negative influence in your life.

At the end of day it is still YOU who decides to accept (or reject) their influence and change for the better or worst.

Remember – Only you can change YOU.

Remember, comments to the hexagrams in I Ching Horoscope give interpretations for the “Most Auspicious” and the “Least Auspicious”. This is the similarity to “healthiest/unhealthiest level of your BaZi” what Joey speaks about!

According to I Ching Horoscope generated by Pillars of Wisdom, Steve Jobs has the following Later Heaven hexagram (which governs the second part of his life):

Hexagram 24 “Return” is very auspicious hexagram and, as you can see, there is a corresponding range of years for each hexagram line. Steve Jobs’ age from 37 to 45 years corresponds to the first (bottom) line of the hexagram which is also a controlling line.

Steve Jobs returned to Apple in 1996 when he was in the age of 41 years. It exactly match the period for the first line of Later Heaven hexagram. Thus, Steve Jobs followed his destiny according to his Later Heaven hexagram: he returned to Apple and the company business started to improve!

If you got single Yang or Yin line in your Pre-Heaven Hexagram, and this line is controlling line as well, then you might be a leader of others in your life.

For example:

Hexagram 44. Kou. Coming to Meet (Contact). Control Line: 1.

The first line from the bottom is single Yin line in the hexagram and this is also a control line. You might assume that person with such hexagram may be a leader of others.

Another example:

Hexagram 8. Pi. Uniting. Control line 5.

This hexagram has single Yang line in the fifth position and this is control line. Very successful hexagram, because line 5 is the most auspicious line.
