How would you deal with it?&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;How about your content if you are targeting customers from all parts of the world? Some of the word used in American English is different from British English like Colour, optimise etc, so are you going to include all these phrases within your site??? Visitors who visit your site from the US will think that you there is a typo. How do you deal with this?&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;How about mispells within different phrases in different territories?&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Translated pages, how do you translate in the first place? do you hire a translator ? If so, how do you communicate with them for specific phrases, a translated page need to be optimized as well. How do you optimize it? Do you take the extra step to learn some if the phrases? &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;It will be a real challenge for some of the sites that are targeting people from different parts of a specifc country, Imagine India for that matter, You will have to speak the native language for each city , state and district in some cases. Tamil speaking visitors from Coimbatore for example will be different from Chennnai tamil. How will they search.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;And most of all, Google has its own search engines for each language. Hindi, Tamil etc. How do you optimize for that language?? Pretty scary ahh&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;And how about now with the search wiki, and personalized search results, when someone is logged into the Gmail, the search results will be entirely different from those who are not logged in. How do you optimize for both?&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;How about search wiki when someone votes for their fav sites, next time how do optimize? &lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;p&gt;Take an extra step and spend some time on keyword research and understand what that particular phrase means. Research on that keyword.  Post your keywords and questions within a forum or a blog or to an expert in that particular language, you will be amazed by the answers you get. Take that and do your homework. research more using tools like Keyword research, Analytics keyword research tool, Google trends etc. Doing some research and searching on some of the keyword list, First you atleast need to have a basic keyword list by doing some homework. And using that keyword list do indepth study on that and other possible keywords and based on that keyword ask your translator or the content writer to come up with the content. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Optimizing  different countries and spellings used in that country. And think about the slangs too. So how do you implement all those keywords within a site, well. this is my personal opinion, You have some pages that are not that important right? Like lets say your copyright page, your policy page,  your FAQ page, Partners page, or create a additional page or write a blog post specifically for that region or country and include those keywords within those pages, chances are that if your other pages are ranking high these pages will also rank high for specific region. If you have created a local listings or may be a review from visitor from UK, or a tesimonial from that specific country, ask them to write a blog post or use their questions and include those keywords within those content. What you are doing here is, you optimize for both UK and US for example. If your target audience are from US lets say, 70% and 30 % UK, concentrate and writing and coming up with content for the 70 % in the important pages and use the rest of the pages for that 30 %&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Mispells needs to be researched and as mentioned above, use those mispells in those pages. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Translated pages needs special attention, You again need to spend some time on that particular keywords, Ask to some of the non techie average people what that means to them, Will they use those keywords for searching, conduct a survey, use some of the bloggers to help you, they will be happy to help you, If anyone wants to know more about Tamil and wants to optimize and target people from Tamilnadu, I would be happy to give some inputs as a user.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Analytics, The best tool you can use to analyze and target the right audience. Find out the pattern and how people are using your site, How about the repeat visitor, how long they stay in your site? How about the pages, what pages are they visiting and staying . The Exit page, why? When and how they are exiting? Did they complete the goal before they exit, if not what was wrong. this needs a understanding of users, User behaviour, the site etc. Use Analytics in order to optimize and work on the Search Wiki page optimization and personalized SEO&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;What is your question? do you have any tips? When entering the class in the afternoon, I see.'&lt;span class="l"&gt;&lt;em&gt;You&lt;/em&gt;'&lt;em&gt;ve got to find what you&lt;/em&gt; love,'&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;After walking into the class, we were asked to switch on the mobiles and You can see this prof's eyes and tell the amount of Knowledge, Energy, Wisdom, Courage he has got.&lt;br /&gt;We all were asked to Introduced and everyone was introducing ourselves, Our Work, Name and the reason why we are here?&lt;br /&gt;Different participants answered differently. I am here to manage people, career, raise, blah, blah, blah in between were all the great comments from this professor asking why , what , when , how and gave short but powerful comments and answers. Most of them were stunned. His Criticism was constructive.( Felt like how a teacher would treat a kid in the school which was good ) It was strict but by the way he communicates was clear, it is clear that whatever he does to criticize is to help us.&lt;br /&gt;A gentleman said, He just came to see how it is like and what they teach in IIM. ( Oh, Oh. He is in trouble now) But within a day this gentleman realized what they teach in IIM. The whole session in his class is to make us feel humble and get our egos out of ourselves.&lt;br /&gt;What was important was this class helped each others know how we can learn from each one of this 97 participants and help each other.&lt;br /&gt;It was not about what you learn and how much you get in your exams, Its about the learning process, Its the experience you get during the process.&lt;br /&gt;In this class, everyone exchanged, helped, shared each others knowledge, experience, power etc etc. One of the real time hands on experience, where no text or study material can give us. That I see is the Real Value being here in IIM Bangalore.&lt;br /&gt;Its gives a whole new meaning to our lives, the way we think, it changes everything.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And yes, now a &lt;a href="http://www.linkedin.com/in/seosuresh"&gt;SEO, Web Marketer&lt;/a&gt;, SMM/SEM will atleast try to think of the Goal, Vision, Value, Clarity, Context. IIM Bangalore - EGMP XIII &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Pretty Interesting and its always a pleasure to meet new people and that too people with an average of 12 years and above of Experience from several industries and background.&lt;br /&gt;Most of them are from Engineering background. Few software, few HR, a couple marketing people including me, An Entrepreneur, MD's, CA's, Project Managers, R&amp;amp;D etc&lt;br /&gt;Companies like Intel, Infosys, Wipro, 3M, Mcafee, symphony, Bosch, Oracle, Accenture, Dell, Sysco.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Highlight First day of the class of EGMP-XIII at IIM Bangalore&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;1st Hour: Financial Accounting&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This was a good start with the Professor having so much energy, Knowledge and passion. The way this faculty explained and started the day with fun, warmth with a good sense of humor let all of the 97 of us to relax. We dint realized it was about Finance and Accounting, it was nice. With the experience within the industry and the way this faculty made us clear and simple in lay man's term was great. Within 2 days, most of us, who dint know anything about Accounting were able to get a clear Basic understanding of Accounting.&lt;br /&gt;The Home Works :) given to us . Yes Home Work . Its been years that I came across this, was interesting, challenging and fun to find out and it wasn't easy to find out the answers.&lt;br /&gt;The objective was to learn from the process and not based on the books or exams.&lt;br /&gt;One of the best thing about IIMB is:&lt;br /&gt;You learn during the process, Its not about the books and exams, its about how and what you did during the process, during the research, How you came up with this solution, the whole learning process. Companies find it pays to be near the top of search engine results&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;em&gt;ROBIN ROGER&lt;br /&gt;Herald Staff Writer&lt;/em&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Bradenton-based Pad Printing recently signed a contract worth more than $1 million with a company in New Jersey. The New Jersey company did not find Pad Printing through a trade magazine or business directory. They found Pad Printing through the Internet.&lt;br /&gt;Pad printing uses something called search engine optimization, a method of getting Web sites listed in the top results for a Google, Yahoo or other Web search engines. Companies like Pad Printing are looking to move up in the results rankings, and local advertising agencies are adding the service to their lists of offerings.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Pad Printing has a broad reach with customers in California, Maine, New Mexico and Nevada. These clients will not find Pad Printing in their phone books. The company, which does all its business online and spends $700 a month on online advertising, draws specific customers to its business using search engine optimization.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Pad Printing, on 62nd Avenue East in Bradenton, prints text on medical, electronic, industrial and specialty products regardless of the shape, size, material or surface of the products. The new contract means the company will be marking 30 million aluminum seals on medicine vials, used by one of the largest veterinarian drug manufacturers.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"I'm dealing with a sophisticated audience looking for a specific service," says Doug Schuler, owner of Pad Printing. "There's very few pad printers and laser markers in the southeast."&lt;br /&gt;When someone searches Google using certain keywords — medical device, flexible plastic, print on glass — he will likely find Pad Printing on the first page of results. The company usually ranks sixth in search engine results, Schuler said.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"You only have a couple of seconds to capture them when they're looking for something," he said. "It's rare that you go to page four, five or six of the results."&lt;br /&gt;Pad Printing is a client of Fox Advertising Agency in East Manatee. Suresh Babu, Internet project manager for Fox Advertising, works with Pad Printing to ensure that its Web site is at the top of the list when anyone searches for a company that can print on medical vials.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"At first people thought the Internet was only for geeks and techno people," Babu said. "Now people cannot live without the Internet."&lt;br /&gt;While some tech-savvy business owners may know how search engine optimization works, Babu said many people still have questions.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The most common question, he said, is whether Google ranks its results alphabetically. Unlike the phone book, in which AAA Aardvark cleaners ends up at the top of the list, Google uses a set of sophisticated algorithms to determine who's on top.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Google uses more than just keywords these days. In the beginning many companies misused Google by attaching certain keywords to their sites, Babu said. That is why a search for ice cream could bring you farfetched results like a list of liposuction services in Louisiana.&lt;br /&gt;Now Google uses hundreds of factors to determine page rank, including relevance, popularity and fresh content.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"They change the algorithms every week," Babu said. "You have to keep on top of that."&lt;br /&gt;Although no one can guarantee a particular ranking, Babu said there are certain guidelines that every Web site should follow to get it close to the top.&lt;br /&gt;Search networking&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Google gives preference to Web sites that link out to other Web sites and receive reciprocal links to theirs. It also favors Web sites that keep updating content so a regularly updated blog or Web log can help a Web site's ranking. Blogs are also interactive, which Google treats as a plus.&lt;br /&gt;While a business can pay to have its name appear on Google's search results, the sponsored ads on the right and at the top of the page have no bearing on Google's main search results.&lt;br /&gt;Dr. Mario Perez wants to catapult his clinic's name to the top of the results for local searches. Right now, he said the only way to get his Web site to come up on Google is to enter its name, Vitale Skin Rejuvenation Institute.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"If I put in skin care, aesthetics, skin rejuvenation or words that might be related to my clinic, it won't come up," he said.&lt;br /&gt;Instead, he gets listings for plastic surgeons in Ohio, even when he specifies Sarasota. He said he hopes the company he hires will be able to work on his Web site and get it higher in the results.&lt;br /&gt;Ranking at the top&lt;br /&gt;Getting a top ranking on Google can be a critical element of a company's marketing strategy.&lt;br /&gt;In this day and age, if a company does not have a presence on the Internet, it's likely to get overlooked, said James Curran, assistant professor of marketing at University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"As long as your competitors are on the Internet, you need to be there as well," he said. "And if you do a search for certain things and you find you're on the 15th page, you might as well not be there."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Curran suggested that companies speak to an expert to find out how to get their Web site on the first page of a search engine's results.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"There is a system out there and businesses need to figure out how it works," he said.&lt;br /&gt;Google offers tips on how to find a reputable search engine optimization firm, and offers helpful guidelines in its Webmaster Help Center. It recommends that Web sites avoid "sneaky redirects" and other tactics designed to get a higher page placement.&lt;br /&gt;If a site does not follow certain guidelines, Google warns that it may block the site from the index.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"Google feels that it's important for webmasters to design sites for users rather than for search engines," said a Google representative. "Webmasters who spend their energies upholding the spirit of basic search principles will provide a much better user experience and subsequently enjoy better ranking than those who spend their time looking for loopholes they can exploit."&lt;br /&gt;Balanced marketing&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Joseph Navas, founder of SearchLamp Web Analytics, a Bradenton-based search engine optimization company, recommends a balanced approach to Internet marketing.&lt;br /&gt;"Everybody focuses so much on placement," he said. "You might get the first page placement on a search engine, but you can't stay there. It's a constant battle."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So many companies jockey for that top position, he said, that companies need to continually update their site, which takes a lot of work and money.&lt;br /&gt;Navas suggested balancing search engine optimization with a paid placement program, like pay-per-click advertisement or sponsored links. Companies should make sure they have traffic coming from at least four different search engines and they should cross promote with other relevant sites.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And business owners should keep in mind, Navas said, that it does not matter how good a Web site is or how high up in the results, if it does not result in customers.&lt;br /&gt;"It's just like an advertisement," he said. One of the interesting part is that I notice, RSS Feeds in the Local Results from Job Sites. For example in one of the Local Search Results I see, indeed jobs RSS feed listings. Did you notice that?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I know Google is very keen about &lt;a href="http://searchenginedetails.com/"&gt;Local and Personalized Search Results&lt;/a&gt;, but is it relevant? or is is it just testing? Did you notice that?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I know Google is very keen about &lt;a href="http://searchenginedetails.com"&gt;Local and Personalized Search Results&lt;/a&gt;, but is it relevant? or is is it just testing? Well May be it is relevant based on the searches.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I searched for a Company name and the location it gave me results about that company hiring, I guess it all makes sense since people who look for a specific company in Local also look for &lt;a href="http://searchenginedetails.com"&gt;Careers/Jobs&lt;/a&gt; in that company.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Results were also taken from Monster but from a different site, Might Be a good opportunity for sites like Monster and other Hiring companies.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Well SEO's from those companies should pay some attention to some of these results.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Have you seen any results like this ? Let’s assume you created a specific campaign for the Holiday season or for Valentines Day. For example you came up with a campaign for a Florist. Since Flowers is one of the best seasonal products on Valentines Day.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Let’s go back to the campaign that you created prior to this Valentines Day. You stated a Champaign a few months ago trying to optimize the florist site for Valentine’s Day. You would have probably created specific pages to optimize for Valentines day Flowers. In that page, your content might be history, Facts, etc to create a Valentines Day theme. You would have also give anchor links, internal links to your site and yes also to have them buy products related to that season, probably a link saying Buy Valentines Day Flowers Now. The reason to do this might be to give users not only just Valentines Day flowers but also tips, facts and to share your knowledge since you are an expert in that field. Makes sense to me.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The search engines love fresh content. Again this is prior to this Valentines Day, visits your site, finds some great content for the visitors, finds new information and assumes that this site will provide visitors some valuable information related to the season. Your page view increases eventually ending up with more sales until Valentines Day. Awesome, So far so good.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Valentines Day is over, not every one will look online for this specific keyword. But you have those pages how would you handle? What will your Post &lt;a href="http://searchenginedetails.com/2008/01/have-you-considered-these-while.html"&gt;SEO Strategy&lt;/a&gt;?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Let’s discuss some of the possibilities here:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;From a User Point of View:&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ol&gt;&lt;li&gt;If you decide to either delete or make it inactive or decided to have a 301 redirect? Those pages you created specifically for Valentine’s Day will not be visible, even if some one searched for it. &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;In case they search for it. It will give a 404 error to those searches. Since this page is content related to that holiday, you might still want to keep those pages, so that it is visible only to the searches that specifically search for it. You can eliminate from the visual navigation but still keep the page live &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;This also will help your client to rank for all year round and it will be easy to optimize for the next year same day, since you already have a presence for this keyword&lt;br /&gt;This page will only be visible if a user knows this URL: For ex: &lt;a href="http://www.xyz.com/pages/valentinesday.html" goog_docs_charindex="2428"&gt;www.xyz.com/pages/valentinesday.html&lt;/a&gt;  those who search and find this page will find useful. &lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ol&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;From a Search Engine point of View:&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;ol&gt;&lt;li&gt;Since this page is inactive, the search engines look at the page and don’t find those pages and will give a 404 error to the searchers. If you have the pages live ( which wont be visible to the visitors, unless they type in specific URL) the search engine will still index and keep it in the database, giving an overall results if someone searches for the terms.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Since this is the trend for a few more day still search engine will rank some of the content in the SEPR’s, Which is a good thing. &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;To conclude, having this page live is good from a search engine point of view.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Another way to handle this is to do a 301 redirect or Robot.txt and send visitors to another page. Again if you decide not to rank for the keywords after the season. So the next time you try to optimize a site for this theme you will have to start from a scratch.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ol&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;From the Client point of View:&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;ol&gt;&lt;li&gt;The Florist when searched for it, may see here and there these pages popping up in the search results for a while even after the season is over, this happens for all the sites, since search engines keep the index for a while.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Some of the clients might think this is a problem, that they still see some of the pages even after the season, What would you do to get around this? My personal suggestion: Send an email with the above both user and search engine point of view benefit and educate and just inform them this is a good thing. &lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ol&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.blogger.com/profile/09227763382031094142"&gt;From an SEO point of View&lt;/a&gt;:&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;ol&gt;&lt;li&gt;Ok what would you as an SEO do? Well you might still keep the pages, but be careful with the anchor links which you created to point the visitors to your specific products, why? Because those products you sold only for these special occasions would have been inactive by now. So tweaking the Anchor links and other links will be useful. &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Tip: Use those anchor links for a different campaign but related to this theme. If you are creative you can link this theme to another theme.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;You would have probably tweaked some other page Title, Description, content and links optimizing to this campaign. Double check those pages.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;With the advanced search feature, you can see where all those keywords are appearing, you can search by Specific URL, Title, Body. Scan those places and tweak it .&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ol&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Conclusion:&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So overall having these pages are good for &lt;a href="http://searchenginedetails.com/2008/02/sarasota-florida-seo-local-maps-and.html"&gt;SEO&lt;/a&gt; and user point of view, but as a SEO, tweak, fine tune those content rather tan eliminating the page completely.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;This is my own personal opinion. For example, the new Fix the correct location feature in Google Map is not only helpful for you, it is also helpful for anyone who is searching &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Ask your Customers to give a honest review of your business, that will not only help in the rankings also it will help the users to trust you&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;You can add up to ten images in the local listings. Think what images will be effective. If your location is difficult to find. Take a picture of the well know landmark or the complex and with some simple editing you can point your store location. If you are a Dentist, How about adding some before and after pictures. If you are a printer, have some samples or portfolio pictures. Find out what picture will give a location, clear description and use to those who search.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;If you are listing your restaurant in the local listing, How about a link with Menu.
