Andrew Wilson
St. Vincent de Paul of Appleton, Inc (Until December 6th, COTS beginning December 9th)
Executive Director

What motivates Andrew, as it relates to his career and community involvement:

“Humanity motivates me. Although my life up to this point has been short, I have been blessed with some amazing experiences that I could not have recreated even if I won the lottery. I believe in people, and that everybody deserves a second chance at life. I chose to work in the nonprofit sector when I was a teenager because I knew that not everybody in this world understands that they have just as much of a chance to succeed as I do. I’m motivated when parents are no longer so stressed out that they can now spend more time loving their children then yelling at them. I’m motivated when I hear that a client I was working with has moved out of the shelters and now has their own apartment. I am especially driven when I hear that people that I know that were once destitute now believe in themselves again. I’m also motivated by smarter use of technology to improve our service delivery in this sector. Nonprofits with shoestring budgets need not spend lots of money to do what corporations do – my “sub mission” is to help nonprofits understand low cost and free alternatives to help them become more efficient in achieving their mission.”

“The combination of learning from hard-working parents and constantly being in competitive environments throughout school and work, makes me strive for excellence in every aspect of my life. I am so blessed to be in a position where my career and community involvement are so closely intertwined. That close connection makes it easy for me to see the importance of what I do professionally at the Convention & Visitors Bureau and also as a volunteer at Scheels USA Youth Sports Complex. While my life at times may get a little sports-heavy, I try not to lose sight of the bigger picture of building a stronger Fox Cities. This is not only important for businesses and non-profits, but also important for my family, friends, and neighbors.”

What motivates John, as it relates to his career and community involvement:

“For me, my career aspirations and community involvement walk hand in hand. The desire to improve myself and to continue to grow as a business professional is mirrored in my feelings about the community I live in. It would be foolish for me to believe that I could achieve all that I hope to as a professional here in the Fox Cities if the community around me had serious challenges it was facing and had a difficult time overcoming . Economic growth walks hand in hand with a community that is flourishing and with that comes career opportunities that are not available to communities in strife. At the same time, I also feel that it is my responsibility to help ensure that my family lives in the best environment possible and to help others achieve that same goal.”

“There are several items in life that motivate me. Most of them are based around one word, success. Being successful myself, seeing and assisting in the success of others, and also the success and development of all the organizations I am involved with, both non-profit and for profit. Being successful in my career helps me develop personally and professionally and this development allows me to provide beneficial feedback and information to outside organization that may assist them in their development.

My community involvement has helped me grow much more as a person and I looked forward to additional growth due to continued connections and contributions.”

What motivates Monica, as it relates to her career and community involvement:

“My single greatest motivation is to connect to something beyond myself. Maybe it’s because of my training as a historian, but I tend to take the long view. Appleton was founded over a hundred years ago in an America that was very different from the country in which we live today. If those long-ago pioneers did not always make perfect choices, they did succeed in creating a community that has provided generations with a place to call home. Communities are simultaneously fragile and enduring. If we neglect our obligations to future generations, we can lose what it took generations to create. I want to inspire others by example and by teaching to care about the places where we live so that we can preserve what’s best about the past to build a strong foundation for the future. In addition, I get most excited by seeing what happens when you put talented and committed people together to fulfill a vision. I don’t think of myself as a leader at all; I just like to try to get the right people around a table and to see what happens when you help them to realize that they share the same dreams. Amazing things can happen when people start to believe in themselves and their ability to make a difference. “

What motivates Kim, as it relates to her career and community involvement:

“My motivation is seeing people change for the better. When they come in completely unconvinced that they are able to heal, I become an even bigger advocate for what I do. I know that my business, Nutritional Healing, is very different in the Fox Cities, because I have my Masters in Human Nutrition and Disease Management. So many people I meet tell me that I have their “dream job,” and it brings tears to my eyes. They carry around my magazine articles and show them to their doctors asking for alternatives when it comes to health care. We as a nation are becoming so sick, and I am their expert to answer “why” we can get them feeling better faster. I have so much knowledge to share with people with what is going on, which is why speaking engagements and being involved in the community are of the utmost importance. We need this call to action and awareness so people know “why” this is happening and what they can do about it.”

What motivates Kyle, as it relates to his career and community involvement:

“Motivation is the driving force behind all successful organizations, teams, businesses, and individuals. Whether it’s in my personal or professional life, there are several things that motivate me to be my very best. I am driven to be the top in my field because I want to set a solid foundation for my business. I strive for perfection in business, professional development, and the efficiency of my agency. They say that true character is what you do when no one’s looking and this is where I set myself apart. I strive to always maintain a high level of integrity and I feel that this resonates through to my clients and colleagues. When it comes to community involvement I am motivated by one word, service. It is essential to give back to our communities and support the organizations that represent the Fox Valley. Everything is not always run by money. It’s run by heart, service, and the willingness to help a friend in a time of need. This is the groundwork for a thriving and prosperous community and I, myself, am motivated to contribute to such an initiative.

“Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.”

What motivates Jason, as it relates to his career and community involvement –

“First and foremost, I want to instill in my 3 children the values that have been passed to down to myself from my family and other people I’ve found influential. I want them to know and understand that we are all in this together, and the power of many can do far more than the power of one. That means getting involved in the community, that means helping others in need, and that means making sure to encourage others to get involved as well. I want them to believe that they are significant in this world, and that what they do today can influence others and provide for a far greater place tomorrow.
As far as my career, I want to make sure that I am providing people with a positive experience in dealing with a financial professional. As I said before, they may never become a client of mine, but if I can help them in any way, I believe I’ve done well. My motivation is a heavy reliance on morals, ethics, and The Golden Rule, “do unto others as you would have them do to you”. I know that as long as I do that, I’ll be able to look back at my career and be proud of what I’ve accomplished.”
