The controversy surrounding the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation and Planned Parenthood may become a launching pad to discuss the issue of abortion in upcoming elections.

Friday, The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation reversed their decision to cut funding to Planned Parenthood for breast cancer screening after four days of debate. In a paper statement Komen founder and CEO Ambassador Nancy Brinker wrote, “We have been distressed at the presumption that the changes made to our funding criteria were done for political reasons or to specifically penalize Planned Parenthood. They were not. Our only goal for our granting process is to support women and families in the fight against breast cancer.”

Whether or not the original decision to cut funding was meant to be political, the issue of abortion is one that all presidential candidates will eventually have to confront. All of the GOP 2012 candidates are pro-life.

Early on in his political career, former Massachusetts, Gov. Mitt Romney supported a woman’s right to choose. But now, Romney says Roe v. Wade should be reversed. He believes state law should guide abortion rights, and is on record supporting moves aimed at de-funding Planned Parenthood.

Former House Speaker, Newt Gingrich, who converted to Catholicism when he married his third wife, is publically pro-life and against Planned Parenthood.

Gingrich released a press release last May stating, “I think that Planned Parenthood should be defunded, and I think it’s a very significant issue to say to people, should your tax money go to pay the leading abortion provider in America?”Congressman Rick Santorum, is one of the more zealous pro-life proponents. Santorum also supports defunding Planned Parenthood. He is in favor of a constitutional abortion ban. Previously Santorum supported a woman’s right to abort a fetus in cases of rape, incest and to save the life of the mother, but now he has reversed course saying he opposes abortion even in cases of rape. “I would absolutely stand and say that one violence is enough,” said Santorum.

Texas Congressman Ron Paul believes the federal government should have no authority to legalize or ban abortions. He, along with Gingrich and Santorum have signed a pro-life pledge that among other things, would cut off federal dollars for clinics that perform or finance abortions.

On today’s Studio B, former New York Giants Wide Receiver David Tyree discussed what the key to this year’s game will be, saying, “If there was one thing that I would have to pick, it’s gonna be the run game … you want to take away as many possessions from the New England Patriots and that offense as you possibly can. You don’t want Tom Brady dictating the tempo of that football game.”

Shepard Smith questioned Tyree about his unforgettable catch in the 2008 Super Bowl against the New England Patriots, which ended up being his last catch in the NFL. He said it was pretty overwhelming to have helped an NFL team to win the Super Bowl, but explained how exciting it was to go from being anonymous to being a guest on many talk shows after the famous catch.

“God was giving me an opportunity. I guess you could say I’ve been filled with faith and passion to serve other people, and I realize that’s more what it was all about.”

Israeli officials won’t comment on a possible time line for an Iran attack, but the war drums continue to pound here, in fact, Israel’s defense minister said, essentially, that those who say “later” often find out “later is too late”. Israel has made it very clear that they will not allow Iran to get the bomb at any cost.

Iran is engaging in the same war of words. The Iranians aren’t shying away from a fight, at least a verbal one. Today, Ayatollah Khamenei came out and called Israel a cancer that needed to be cut out from the world, as the adoring crowd chanted back during that speech, “Death to Israel”.

Two-thousand feet above Times Square, the Big Apple gets a whole lot smaller! This week to help celebrate Fox News Channel’s tenth year at number one, I got to do something that few other people ever experience — a helicopter ride directly over Times Square, NYC. It was all in an effort to produce this video chronicling our decade of ratings dominance.

To be clear, my ride in the helicopter wasn’t your typical chopper tour around Manhattan. This was exclusive, rare-in-the-air access above the city that never sleeps … at night. Only two groups of people are granted permission to fly there, police and press, and I’m lucky enough to be a member of the latter group.

My evening began by heading to a heliport in Linden, NJ to meet up with the Fox 5 SKYFOX team consisting of reporter Dennis Protsko and pilot, Captain Frank Cochrane. Upon arriving, I was greeted warmly by Protsko who immediately asked whether I had any fear of flying, heights, or got queasy on roller coasters and such. I told him I did not, but also had never been in a helicopter before so for a moment I thought maybe this wasn’t the best idea I’ve ever had! As we approached the stealthy steel black “bird” that would be my chariot for the evening, my nerves quickly settled as my excitement took over. After a few quick safety guidelines and a “crash course” on what to do if we experienced an air emergency, we loaded up.

“SKYFOX lifting south ramp, taking the active, straight out departure towards the city,” Protsko exclaimed over the headsets, and then we were on our way. Liftoff was a strange sensation and nothing like takeoff on a plane. It was more like being in a gigantic glass elevator going straight up … and up … and up until every vehicle below looks like a Matchbox car. Within a few moments we were cruising along at 95 knots, or approximately 112 mph, straight for the skyline. As we passed the Statue of Liberty and approached the big city, the bright lights appeared clearer than ever before from my sky-high vantage point. I thought for a moment, “How cool is this? I’m getting paid to do this!” But as great as the view was from there, 20 seconds later I was completely blown away when we literally hovered above some of the tallest skyscrapers in the world. I’ve spent the last 11 years in this great city looking up at these magnificent glass and steel structures, but looking down on them was quite a unique change in perspective. After allowing myself to be caught up in the moment for a few seconds, it was time to go to work. After all, we were there to do a job.

As Protsko deftly operated the SKYFOX HD camera, I tried to direct the perfect shots of our Fox News logos displayed thousands of feet below on the massive NASDAQ, Sony, and Reuters boards. Now I’ve done plenty of shoots over my career, but let me tell you, having to keep an eye on both the shot and where the rooftops are at the same time was a challenge!

Thankfully, Captain Cochrane nimbly piloted us through the maze of building blockades with expert precision and skill, not only pulling off some “Top Gun” like maneuvers but talking like it also, “Negative, Ghost Rider, the pattern is full.” After a half hour of pitching the helicopter forward-and-back, and panning the camera left-and-right, we had our footage and headed home … but not before the guys gave me a quick bird’s eye view of the home of my beloved NY Yankees!

As we arrived back at the heliport, I reflected on something Protsko and Captain Cochrane told me before we ever headed up. They said people usually fall into two categories when faced with the possibility of going up in a chopper: the people who say you couldn’t pay me enough do it or the people who do it and then can’t wait to do it again. Well upon landing I told the guys I totally couldn’t wait to fly with them again. I mean, I got to see the top of the Empire State Building, Yankees Stadium, the heart of Times Square, and do a flyby past Lady Liberty, and as Goose told Maverick — one admiral’s daughter!

Picerno said the meeting took place in the form of a question-and-answer session, with both Kansas City police and FBI present; it lasted approximately 90 minutes. According to Picerno, mother Deborah Bradley brought notes from her own personal investigation that she hoped would “give them tips and clues as to the players that she knows are in that neighborhood and who were around at that time.”

Police said detectives didn’t learn anything significant from the most recent meeting but hope there will be more meetings in the future.

After months of the investigation seemingly at a standstill, Megyn Kelly asked, is it a cold case? “I certainly hope not,” said Picerno. “Police told [us] they’re actively working the case.”

Becky Miller, the emcee of the event, claims that she had to flee the building with her infant because she felt so threatened by these people, saying, “It turned into chaos. It started out very peacefully on both sides and the pro-lifers stayed calm, but the occupiers got more and more hysterical and it did turn into a mob. They weren’t attacking people, but they were definitely starting to get violent and I just wasn’t sure what would happen. I could see a little child getting trampled in that kind of mess.”

Sandy Rios and Jehmu Greene joined America Live to react to the latest move and engaged in what can only be described as a very heated debate.

Rios said, “We are witnessing an absolute shakedown of an organization that simply wants to save the lives of women through cancer research. And, they’ve decided not to partner with Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider.” She went on to charge, “One organization is in the business of killing women, one organization is in the business of try to save their lives.”

Greene blasted back, saying that “we should all be on the same side, fighting against cancer. There were a number of groups for many years that have been trying to politicize women’s health. And what we have seen is passion, and outrage, and support for an organization that saves women’s lives, and saves the most vulnerable women.” She continued, saying that Planned Parenthood provides critical cancer screening to the most vulnerable women, including those in the African American and Hispanic communities.

He also outlined some goals, stating, “The most important thing Congress needs to do right now is to stop taxes from going up on a 160 million Americans at the end of this month …They need to pass an extension of the payroll tax cut and unemployment insurance and do it without drama, without delay, without linking it to some ideological side issue.”

General Jack Keane joined Happening Now to discuss the history between the United States and Iran. Since Iran declared the U.S. their strategic enemy in 1980, they have been trying to drive us out of that region. “What they’re seeking is regional domination; they clearly want hegemony in the region where radical Islam is the dominating political and social influence.”

He thinks the biggest threat is that the Israelis have been very public about their plans, saying, “They’re actually saying that because they want the international community and the United States to get a lot tougher with Iran. They know there’s still an opportunity with crippling economic sanctions, with covert actions to force the Iranians to voluntarily give up the program.”

Keane believes the U.S. government has concerns about this Israeli attack because Iran would feel justified to retaliate against U.S. targets in the region such as the embassy in Iraq, military bases in Afghanistan, and other U.S. targets in the region, which would force some retaliation on our part.

In discussing Panetta’s statement about the U.S. being prepared, Keane thinks Panetta is just trying to influence the international community on his own to get additional sanctions against the Iranians.

The Sisters of the Holy Cross launched an awareness campaign and used that to invest in the big hotel chains. Sister Joan Marie Steadman said, “It seemed like this would be an opportunity to use some of our investments … to help educate those hotels to the fact that this is a reality, that there are steps they can take.”

Gov. Mitch Daniels recently signed into law harsher penalties for would-be pimps and anyone who harbors or transports someone for the purpose of prostitution. Despite a divided Indiana legislature, the law passed unanimously.
