Friday Freebie: 60's Batman Kid's Mask

Cue that quirky 60's batman theme song...you know the one...na-na-na....ok, I'll stop.

Batman is kind of the only superhero that really matters in our home, my husband is obsessed, and one of Harvey's first words was "batman", or something that sounds like Batman. Lately he's been discovering dress up play and though he already has a batman mask we purchased when TDKR came out I thought it would be so much fun to design him one too. Adam West's Batman persona and costume are so fun I had to give it a go and this is what I got.

Masks are toddler sized, about 5.5" in width so please keep that in mind. When printing make sure print settings are set to print actual document size.

I've really neglected this poor blog these last few months. Life got really crazy really fast and so much has changed since my last post, I'll share some of the going on's in the coming weeks. For those of you who don't follow me on Instagram or Twitter, I post a lot of my art and work in progress updates there, I'm sad to admit I've neglected this poor little blog but I still love it. Over the next few weeks I'll share some of the amazing projects I've been lucky to be a part of and other super cool things I'll be working on.

Harvey and Knick's birthdays are two days apart (Feb. 26 & 28th) and I thought it would be fun to throw a party for the both of them. It seemed like a good idea at the time and I had no idea what I was really getting myself into. It was seriously a lot of work but it was a really sweet way to celebrate the two special men in my life.

We were so blessed by all the family and friends who joined us in celebrating Knick's 25th and Harvey's first birthday. We're so glad we were able to share this day with you all. A special thanks to my mom and dad in love for coming down from WA to spend the week with us and to my mom and aunts for making the amazing tamales and for their help in organizing and hosting the party.

This year we celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary :) I can't believe we've been married that long, though I know it doesn't seem so long in the grand scheme of things. It was fun celebrating part of it as a family and also getting some time alone with the hubby. We even made a special, very first trip to the ER. Yep, Harvey took a dive into the corner of our futon and got a little gash in his eyebrow. The injury itself wasn't a big deal, but the experience was pretty horrific for us newbie parents.

We made it through that experience with a minor breakdown from me and Knick helping me hold it together. Those were the most nerve racking five hours of my life and when we got home early that morning, around 1:30 am, we all crashed in our bed together. Hope we don't repeat this again next year.

And my anniversary gift to Knick was this awesome tattoo inspired by Listener's song "Wooden Heart".

First: Haircut

Yesterday our little boy had his very first haircut. It was about time, he was starting to look a little scraggly and is not a fan of having his hair combed, we had some epic mini battles over it. So, I gave up and asked our friend to cut his little baby locks.

All I know is that he looks like a big kid now. What a difference the absence of a few little wispy hairs makes! Golly, this kid is sneaking up on his first birthday and I'm sitting here still trying to figure out where this entire year ran off to. Well, on to birthday party planning.

I've been drawing every spare minute I can get these past few weeks, which isn't easy now that Harvey is 11 months old (when did that happen?) and getting into every thing. I went through a period of months, even years, where nothing seemed to prod me into drawing. Struggling with depression on and off was a part of it, I felt like I had nothing to offer the art world for a long time. It got to a point where I'd completely lost my passion for art. Thankfully, I'm rediscovering it.

Somehow I've accumulated a list of projects, both personal and professional, that I'm privileged and excited to be a part of. I'm going to start working on a new series on women (specifics will follow on another post) and I'm trying new styles and methods. One of my artistic goals this year is to work on developing a distinct and personal style.

Hello everyone! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and are having a great new year! We've been busy here at the Pruitt residence and I haven't had a chance to post photos from our Christmas trip to WA. We love visiting our family there and though we didn't get as much snow as we were hoping for we still had our white Christmas after all, and it was beautiful.

Finally finished this drawing and I'm pretty happy with the final result. It took a little longer than expected with everything we had going on but I'm glad I stuck with it. I can get a little too easily discouraged or bored of things at times. A lot of trial and error went into this but I definitely learned a lot along the way, seriously, learning a new technique is so challenging but I'm looking forward to improving with every piece.

4. Becky Filip

Not only is Becky an amazingly talented singer/songwriter for The Honey Trees (seriously, check them out!), she's also a gifted artist. I have several of her prints and have been an admirer of this beautiful gal for years.

It's been a little too long since I've updated, so sorry, but I've been busy with the holiday, baby, and life in general. Art's also been taking up every spare moment I have as well which I love! I've been so inspired to create in so many forms and I have so many ideas popping out of my brain it makes sleeping an almost impossible task. My insomnia is getting pretty ridiculous but at least I'm drawing again, so that's not too bad, right? Sacrifices. Anyway, this is a preview of Bart Collins, he's from The Five Thousand Fingers of Dr. T, the only live action film ever written by Dr. Seuss. If you haven't seen it I highly recommend you find a copy of it, you wont be disappointed.

I'm contemplating doing a series on the main characters from this movie, it would be a blast. So much inspiration in this film. If you've seen it, what are some of your favorite aspects of the movie? The characters, specifically the bearded twins, and the set design delight me to no end. Why don't I own this movie yet?!

PS: I'm so thankful for my cheerleader/#1 fan of a husband. He's so encouraging and inspiring and his constructive feedback is so helpful, thanks Knicky Boo Butt.

9 Months?!

I'm seriously tripping over the fact that my son is almost 9 months old (in three days). Seriously, when did this happen? I never understood when my mom would tell me to slow down and enjoy my childhood, to not be in such a hurry to grow up. I've never been able to sympathize until now, it just feels like only yesterday when we brought this little guy home. Two 23 year old's with no clue about how to care for something so small, fragile, and quite frankly, needy. It felt like we could barely take care of ourselves. It still feels like that sometimes. I'm glad I was able to look so composed and feign such an assertive front around everyone else, cause man, inside I was sort of freaking out.

It was hard to understand the timing of everything. We had just moved down from Washington state, living with my parents in a tiny little room (let's be honest, it was a closet), and a couple months later, surprise. This was in June, then in December my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer (more on this another day). It seemed like everything was happening all at once and all at the wrong time. I felt like I couldn't really be happy about the baby when my mom was sick. But we made it through and nine months later I'm so thankful we were blessed with Harvey that day in February. He really helped my mom fight harder, he brought us all so much joy and comfort. God's plans are always perfect, even when we're questioning them, even if we never discover their purpose. It's all perfect.

This year I have a newfound and incredibly sincere appreciation and thankfulness for my family. It was one of the hardest, most painful, yet meaningful years of my life and I wouldn't change any of it in any way.

Slow down Harvey Boy, it's not a race.

National Adoption Month: My Story

Anytime I tried to picture my future family, even as a young girl, I'd always leave room in my "plans" for adopting a child. As an adopted kid myself (and Jesus follower), this cause has always laid heavily on my heart. Allow me to share a bit of my story with you.

I was born in a small town in Mexico where I spent the first two years of my life shuffled back and forth between different friends and family members. I had family in the US who were visiting in Mexico and happened to find me in a pretty malnourished state (kind of hard to picture my current chunky self that way). So, I was placed in the back seat of my aunts car beside some cousins and was maybe-not-quite-so legally brought over to the US and the local Children's Hospital where I was checked in and treated for a couple of weeks. Now, before you judge the situation in terms of immigration, politics, and what have you, please understand that I was sick and my family did what they felt they needed to do to help me get better, that was all that mattered. Soon after my discharge I was adopted by my biological aunt (my mama) and her husband (my dad). Shortly after I became a legal resident and, later, a naturalized citizen.

Adoption is one my life's most defining moments. Though I didn't always see it as a blessing, today I am so thankful for the way it has changed everything about my life. I am so humbled and thankful for the decision my parents made to make me a part of their family, to love me as one of their own, to raise me and give me every opportunity to become who and what I wanted to be. I can't even imagine where I would be today had I not been adopted. I wouldn't be here now with my husband and son if not for God's perfect plan fulfilled through the process of adoption. It only feels natural and right to someday add on to my own family in this way. My heart seriously skips a beat just picturing the day I get to bring my son or daughter home, show them their room, hold them close, and let them know that they are ours forever. I pray this day will come for our family some day, then I know we'll be complete.

This is a thank you shout out to my husband for letting me spend a week (during fall!) in beautiful WA with our awesome family. While I'm at it, thanks for working your butt off for us so I can stay home with our little guy, thank you for kissing me before you leave and when you come home, thank you for praying with me and always calling me your girl, thanks for playing with Harvey as soon as you walk in the door and for waking up with him in the mornings and letting me sleep in just a little more. Also thank you for letting him tug on your beard and coming up with the cutest nicknames in the universe for him, and much, much more. You're the best friend, leader, husband, and papa ever. I'm so glad I get to experience life and love with you, it's been a beautiful journey.

I was blessed beyond imagination the day I met you at that random metal show.

PS: You're also one of the most creative & talented people I know, I'm a lucky gal.

The Columbia river basin in Oregon. I'm not in OR, but I am in WA at the moment (hey, they're neighbors) and loving it. Tomorrow we'll be on our way to Leavenworth to see the rest of our family. I love autumn in Washington state, it's the most beautiful time of the year and I really miss it. I also love vacations. Hope I remember to take photos ;)

I've been working in Illustrator & Photoshop a lot these past few days and have been loving every moment! It feels like it's been forever since I've had the time and motivation to do something creative and draw again. I'm feeling a lot bolder and experimenting with different techniques, both in drawing and photo editing, and it's been really, really good for me. Next stop, reintroducing myself to my Wacom tablet and becoming best friends once more. So many ideas, so little time.

I'm addicted to art again and it's the best feeling in the world.

I'm working on a family portrait in an illustration style. This is a little peak at what it looks like so far, I really love how it's turning out, and yes, I am in this but all I've completed is my head and that would be weird to picture here. This is a lot of fun to work on but with a crawling 8 month old it can be hard to find the time. Hope you like it!

PS: I'm kind of stumped on a setting for this drawing, where do you picture this taking place?
