I started this blog in 2006 to post some of my drawing and hopefully get some feedback on my art. I got busy. Blog got busy. Blog took many different directions. I had fun with it. Now I want to go back to the purpose I started this blog for, to post my art. I'd like to hear any feedback, critiques, or opinions. I take suggestions well, especially when I can help improve my drawing.

Just finished a new piece on my new Christmas present. I was given a laptop from my parents. I drew the following just using the touch mouse pad. It really took a while to get used to. I hope you like the result.

Read It 'n' Sketch It, Round 2

I have mentioned quite often on my art blog that an artist friend got me started in drawing. One of the methods he used was a creativity exercise where he would write four words at random on my sketch pad. The object of this was that I would merge three of the words into a drawing, and the fourth word would represent an action of the drawing, or the setting. The words did not have to be drawn literally, but should at least be recognizable in part as that item.

Here's an example

The key words were

bull dozer, pear, chessboard, and the action key word was eat

This was my result

Rabbit ears, VCR, Cheese whiz, calculator

Well, as you can see the pictures do end up very quirky, but they are fun to do. They do force you to think 'outside the box'.

I'm really not expecting works of art by any means (did you see the above pictures?), but I would like to share what I got from doing these exercises, and that is simply 'FUN', with a capitol eph, ewe, ehn. Pulling in from creative juices that you just didn't know was there before is almost euphoric, and gives you the drive and energy to try more. If it wasn't for my artist friend, and the laughs we had over many coffees while doing these exercises that he'd throw at me, I don't think I would have driven myself to keep practicing, and drawing.

Some of you know my See It 'n' Write It meme challenge I have going on at my Honk'n'Holl'r blog. I based See It 'n' Write It on these creativity exercises by throwing four pictures at you and you are to write a short-short story, or peom, or anystyle of writing based on those pictures.

I have a round of See It 'n' Write It up, so I figured that why don't I use the keywords I used in that round to start a Read It 'n' Sketch It challenge meme thingy sort of, based on those early creativity exercises.

These are the keywords I used to generate the pictures for See It 'n' Write It

Roman Candle, Batteries, Tree and the setting or action word was Sitting

Your mission, if you choose to accept it,

is to not think hard, or long,

but rather, let your mind 'find' the keywords. Let your mind wander while only focusing on these things. Grab a pen, pencil, marker, crayon, and a piece of paper and let those wandering moments of clarity flow from your mind's eye to your paper.

Do not be critical of what you are drawing, just let it happen. These do not have to be literal representations of the items. They can be animated, distorted, even given arms and feet. Just let it happen.

You will be surprised where your mind will take you and what you will eventually draw, even if you don't think you have any art skills at all. I was one of those people that thought he could not draw at all, but with fun creativity exercises like this, I learned that if I just did it, it would happen.

If you do accept this mission, please scan and post the result. I will link to it, and with your permisson post the drawing on my art site.

Portrait in pencil

A couple of weeks ago I recieved an unusual request at my Honk'n'Holl'r blog. It was a request to draw a blogger's portrait. It seems that "Fake Dane" ask many artists to draw the very same portrait from his picture. He says that it is interesting to see how each artist will paint or draw the same subject uniquely. He then posts all portraits he recieves on his blog. I accepted his request and this is the result.

What is it?

Well, it is a very simple creativity exercise for drawing that is based on four keywords. The keywords are prompts to inspire the creativity buried deep within us, and bring that creativity forward in drawing.

Decaring Winners, Cuz I can.

I've let this contest go a little too long, but I've also been very busy with work and have not had too much time to blog. This year so far has been brutal. Along with the winter that just won't quit. Blizzard again this weekend, and it's March. So, back to the contest. I've decided that I would award two of the best blog friends I have--blog friends that have supported my art, and have even read my Honk'n'Holl'r blog, probably to their dismay. Namely Mimi Lennox, and Gale Martin. Earlier in January, Mimi posted a new picture of herself that was photo manipulated. The photomanipulation that she used is also a tecnique that I use to draw from photographs. Seeing that picture, I just had to draw the Real Mimi as I see her. But I didn't stop there, Mimi also posted a shout for my contest that included the picture, Midnight Swim. I am sending both to Mimi. Gale has also been one of my best supporters and a True blog Friend, and I have decided to send her the picture After Bath Reflections. Just let me know how Gale.
I don't know how much time I will have to draw as of late, so I'll have to put this blog on hold till I can get more content ready. It's been a real pleasure. I'm still doing Grafiti-my-Blog if you want to have fun and test your own art skills. And I'm also a supporter of Dona Nobis Pacem. I just hope I have more stuff drawn before June 6th.

Some new scans of drawings and sketches that I've done mostly over the holidays. And a little creative exercise

I have not had a winner for the Blog Hun contest, or for this round of pictionary. For BlogHunt, I had one of my original drawings up for grabs, but I think the holiday season was the wrong timing for a time consuming contest. I'm closing both contests. But not all is lost. You might notice that all of the above drawings are Unnamed. That is intentional. Just name the above drawings (numbered 1 through 5) and email me your responces. I will select two winners that have named the drawings with what I consider the best names overall. From those two 'best namers' I will chose the name for each drawing out of those selections of names (each drawing can only have one name even if I like both). The two people that have sent in what I consider the best names overall for all five drawings will each win one of my original drawings that I have selected below.
Prize one, "Midnight Swim" (I selected as a prize for BlogHunt), and
Prize two, "After Bath Reflection" are both pencil on paper, 11"x14" in size.
Of the two chosen winners that I select, Prize one, and Prize two will be in the order of email submission date, earliest submission that I select wins prize one.

Blog Hunt One!

The rules of the game are very simple. I have taken a picture from all the blogs that have posted pictures on their blogs. I have made a collage from all of the pictures. Your mission is to identify which blogs that the pictures come from by naming the blog title (or URL) and the specific post title that the picture was posted in. Making the collage and collecting all pictures has taken me about a week to accomplish (mainly because I didn't want to make mistakes), so at the time I collected the pictures they all appeared prior to being archived off the main blog page. And all pictures were from the five most current postings. All of the pictures are from GMB Rebels on my sidebar, and new Rebels within this post. I did not put any extra links or take any pictures from other blogs.

When you have got all Blog titles and the Post's title that the pictures were posted in email me your list. I will leave the contest running until all pictures and their posts have been identified. I will also add some cheats (shortcuts) to the game as time goes on that I will add to this post. As a little incentive, I am going to put up one of my original drawings as a prize for the first blogger to complete the Bloghunt. So have fun BlogHunting!!!

Back at it Big Time!!

First off, I think that I am caught up with all the Globes for the gallery for Mimi's Dona Nobis Pacem effort. Mimi Pencil Skirt is still reporting on the subject as we speak! And I have an excerpt from one of her reporter role models:

I would like to thank everyone that participated in Dona Nobis Pacem, for the
gallery is wonderful. Mimi is happier than
a P*& in S*&% over the response for the first ever run.
I still have more linking to do, but I will get to it
as fast as I can.

Even though my role was small through the entire project, I found it
unique, heartwarming, humbling...It was all that and more, and I'm already
geared up for next year, but I will have (hopefully) better planning
to handle 'many more' globes.

I know I'll be better prepared than this guy ever was!

To all the GMB Rebels that have handed in a wall, I have gone to all
your blogs and will get all your posts up as fast as I can, between work obligations and
wanting to help with Dona Nobis Pacem, I had to put posting for GMB aside for a while. But I'm back at it and will have them up shortly.

Now for a little fun!
I'm sure that most of you are familiar with the game Pictionary
And because this is my art blog.
I've made five pictures that I'm challenging all current
GMB Rebels to compete against each other. Just identify the pictures correctly
and email me back the answers. Learning some tricks from Mimi Queen of Memes,
This is how the game will work.
1. Be the first GMB rebel artist to identify all five pictures and email
me the answers
2. The first one to identify all pictures will have their wall posted at the top
of my side bar as GMB Rebel of the Month that will
link to their blog.
3.The winning GMB artist will then create 5 more pics for me to post.
4. I will post the GMB winner's new pics a week before the end of the month to start
a new round of GMB Pictionary.
5. The winner of that round will create 5 more pics that I will post a week before the next month.
and so on and so on.
The winner of the round, please email me your Pictionary pics by the 10th of the month, along with the answers by the 10th in a separate email, cuz I wanna play too.

Deadline for correct answers emailed to me will be the 29th of every month.
Anyone can play, but please don't leave answers in comments. I'll have to consider that kind of cheating, but hints (very vague hints) are Okay. Also, I'm not looking for ART, and difficult drawings for the game. Feel free to use clip-art, draw free hand or on computer, but the key to Pictionary is simple is best. Being too artistic can complicate the game.
After a round is over I will place that person's Pictionay pics in their GMB post with the correct answers.

Dona Nobis Pacem

This has been the most fullfilling time I've spent in, well, I can't quite remember the last time I got involed in something quite like this. It's been a wonderfull few weeks helping put together the gallery for Mimi. The message is simple yet very clear; the idea is wonderful and easily brought forth; the dream of a peaceful world is beautiful. Can we have it? Well, I'm no philosopher, I'm just a 'hospitality-managing-love-to-have-a-laugh-
-and-a-drink-
-and-a-laugh-
-maybe-another-drink-and-a-laugh-
-naieve-father-and-loving-husband'
that couln't possibly attempt to answer this question. At least an answer with merit and weight that could influence the masses and affect change. But isn't that what has just happened anyway. Isn't it the simple things in life, and the smallest of actions that can change even the most ingrained thoughts and attitudes. One globe today with a simple, yet beautiful inscription leads to---two rifles not shot tomorrow and leads to--three land mines not buried next week and leads to-- four tanks not deployed and leads to-- five helicopters grounded... One Globe graffic with a beautiful inscription can do this, for it has momentum. It is a self-propagating-computer-generated messenger that has a single voice driven by many, started by one.
But like everything in life, there is a cost. A cost of self examination, as a person, as a son/daughter, as a husband/wife, as a father/mother, as community member, as race, as a genus, as a species. Why? Because we need to stop assuming that a peaceful world is 'for' us. And if peace can be achieved, imagine a world in which we can better ourselves, a world made peaceful by us, but still not 'for' us. No, a peacful world is not 'for' us, nor was it 'for' our parents, or 'for' their parents either. Our obligation and responsibility to strive for a peacfull world, and of those that preceded us, is driven by us 'for' those yet to come.

This next wonderful graffiti wall comes from Janna, whose blog is entitled "One More Raindrop on a Bloggy Ocean". As some GMB Rebels may notice, her graffiti wall is a tad different than the rest and this is due to a little confusion on how to recieve and submit walls to the site. I think I've made it a little easier, and thank's Janna for bringing this to my attention, both by email and her Graffiti post'. Thanks Janna for the determination to get a wall done and submitted (eventhough your adventure may have hit a brick wall or two on the way), and for the nice writeup about the Graffiti walls that she's seen on other's blogs.

One thing that I have really noticed with bloggers, and especially good bloggers, is that not only do they contantly come up with quality posts, but they also contribute to other blogs. Janna says she'd like to be a cartoonist, and regularly contributes a cartoon to Morgen's blog, It's a Blog Eat Blog World. Many of Janna's humourous photo manipulations are gems that she contrubutes to Matt-man at Bagwine Riminations (right photo) and to Morgen, who is recieving many photo manips for his Halloween countdown.
And it is this type of quality blogging, combined with contributing to other bloggers that does get noticed by the one and only Bobby Griffin from Bestest Blog.

After winning the coveted award, Janna's modesty comes shining though with the following acceptance cartoon:

Janna is also in love with cats, and that one thing we both share, and what's even stranger is that our cats do look alike. Janna's cats Bryn, and Honey (left photo). One of my two loonie brats, Taco (He will never be upstaged, below). Bootz, my older "sweet-heart with attitude" refused to be hounded by the GMB poparazzi.

Thanks Janna for the visit to One More Raindrop on a Bloggy Ocean, but my only concern Janna is how can onions be evil, and you still like pizza and salsa?
I guess it's kind of like the duality arguement I go through due to my Irish-Italian lineage, I mean I'm always at odds with myself at dinner time on whether it should be wine, or beer.
"Mmmm, beer," said Foxxfyrre aloud.
"Shudd uppa youself, were'a havin dah vino, and dhatsa dhat!" said Foxxfyrre to Foxxfyrre, again aloud.
I think I understand now, Janna.

I decided to do something a little different to review Irene's Blog called Pregnant Pauses.
It is one thing to find a great blog by accident by clicking on a comment made in someones blog to see who wrote those kind or witty words to the blogger they visited, but it is another to find someones blog constantly refered to in acutal posts. I've stumbled on many blogs where Irene's Pregnant Pauses has been talked about, or directly linked to because of the post she made on her own blog caught that bloggers attention. So to review Irene's blog, I thought what about doing a simple search on blogger to see what the phrase 'Irene Pregnant Pause' would bring up. And how about five pages of hits to that search, and most are from blogposts that refer to Irenes blog from other blog authors. And here's what just a couple of them had to say:

Laura, from Name that Mushrome wrote:

"What Irene fails to understand is that the outfit does not make Wonder Woman. As tourist rep, mother, wife and by opening up as to what's in her heart she is Wonder Woman already. Visit Pregnant Pauses. "

Mimi, from Book Meme Central wrote:

"We're here to talk to about Irene and Pregnant Pauses, not Mimi's sudden urge to do extra leg lifts and fly to Brazil. There is a spirit about Irene that transcends oceans, blogwaves and even typhoons. ...

But I think there is more going on between Mimi and Irene for this guy keeps popping up in both of their blogs. And Irene freely admits that "I'm addicted to Reynaldo Gianecchini."

Two women bloggers having a little fun over a young model. Never happen you say? As my mother would say, "Wake uppa you head, he's Italian!" And that's a hard one for me to understand because my mother is Irish?----- Oh, I get it now, that's why my dad's Italian (as Frank, Francesco, gives his head a shake).

But seriously, Irene's blog Pregnant Pauses is a genuine treat to visit, not only in her writing, but through her photography as well. Until visiting Irene's blog, I've always refered to a "Pregnant Pause" as being that uncomfortable long silence on the phone when you had just asked a government representative a simple question.

Around the Globe in eighty clicks with Mimi and Friends

Wow, this has definitely been quite a week. Mimi's Peace Globe is growing rapidly for Nov 7th is approaching quickly. Mimi recently told me in an email that she gets goose bumps when she sees a new globe come her way. So do I! I can't think of anything that I could be happier about helping someone with. After creating the galleries to house my art and the wonderful graffiti walls all you great bloggers created, I couldn't have been happier to create the peace Globe gallery as well. If you've made a Peace Globe and want it placed in the gallery you can use either submit links on this blog (in the Title at the top, or in my side bar), or on my Honk'n'Holl'r blog as well. You can also email your globe to myself or Mimi directly. Mimi and I are confirming each others list of Peace Globes so that we don't miss anyone.

Anyone that is familiar with Mimi's Blog (Blogs!) know that she has the informal title of "Queen of Memes" and she has used her 'royal moniker' to help get the word out about Peace Globes by starting a Peace Globe Meme. So to all GraffitiMyBlog wonderful Rebel artist friends that have submitted a wall (and those that are still pending--sorry I have gotten a little behind) your tagged! And it's an easy meme to do just send this link to other blog authors you know.

On November 7th, I will be going to all blogs that have posted their Dona Nobis Pacem blog post, if you are already a GMB Rebel Artist, I'll add a link directly from your Graffiti Wall posts under Foxxfyrre's Updates and Favorites to your Dona Nobis Pacem posting. For those bloggers that haven't created a Graffiti Wall as yet but have created a Peace Globe--well we'll see what I can do for you on my Nov 7th post. I'm sure I can come up with something.

As you may have guessed, myself and some blog friends wondered when and how--and if, Prometheus from The Moving (Middle) Finger Writes, would participate in GraffitiMyBlog. And in pure Titan form, participate he did! But what would one expect from the creator of Man, benefactor of humanity, and defier of Zues, but a great wall! Foxxfyrre thanks you, his Mother thanks you, and his Father thanks you. The flames of the Foxx dance in his presence. As Prometheus is giant among bloggers, The Moving (Middle) Finger Writes is--well--Titan. Prometeus has been blogging for over two years, and that's like eons for a blog to exist. When I recieved Prometheus' wall, I wondered how am I possibly going to write a review for this blog. Then idea struck me from A world of Reholio Rhys's Blog, where it states that most bloggers like to read blogs from the bottom. So that's how I approached it, from the bottom. And struck blog review gold from Prometeus,

"...'I'm not doing this for the hoi polloi. This is my personal work of art and I will do as I please with it'?"

This next Graffiti Wall is from R.E. Wolf, whose blog is entitled Varience Art. And Wow! This is a blog after my own heart. It has everything that I started out this blog to be, and will eventually succeed at. A good reference source for artists (which I'm going to check out). Many posts that feature favorite artists. Humour, news, and he includes a link to his online gallery, and his subject matter for most of his artwork that I've had time to check out is that of anatomical drawings. I love anatomy, biology, zoology, and to be able to capture it in drawing...well, you'll just have to stop by R.E. Wolf's, Variance Art to enjoy the detail of his artwork. This very creative Graffiti wall is from H, whose blog is entitled Shout. H emailed me with her wall and mentioned that she had help to create it from Houseband00, who also submitted a wall previously. She asked me if getting help with it would be a problem. The one thing I have found out since I've started this project is that bloggers have a sence of community and friendship. This is very evident in almost all comment areas that I have read while reviewing the blogs for posting. And I've met quite a few bloggers that I regularly visit and connect with since I started GMB. I'm sure that it is because I'm blogging with purpose instead of randomly hitting blogs and stopping at ones that I thought were good or had something in it I liked. Now that I have blurpose (blogging with purpose--hey, I may have coined a blogism), I have become quite astounded by the quality, the writing, the wit, and the friendship that shows in both the comment sections and sometimes the written posts of the blogs I have read for the GMB posts. H's blog is a perfect example of quality writing and true friendship in posts like Ruby Sunset, and Like Paper, and in comments for these posts. So Please, dont pass up going to H's blog Shout, it is really a good read. Don't forget to mention you saw her Graffiti at GraffitiMyBlog!

This wall is from al-jabr whose blog is entitled Amicable Jackass. al-jabr is an admitted Lakers fan, but according to his intro post, he lists foosball and tennis next on his list. For other sports, he mentions "cricket the sport", but he lists cricket under the category of things that baffle him.

al-jabr also likes painting and drawing, and his blog features much of his art, and comics that he has written, but also features favorite comics and artwork from other artists and friends. His blog is varied in topic, but has a nice rounding of all types of features, such as some videos, some rants, things that he does like, and mentions a curious habbit of shadow boxing with his sister's cat. Thanks for the wall A.J., I hope you had fun doing it. I'll be stopping by lots to feature links to more of your artwork. Since I started blogging a few months back, and then finding Bestest Blog. Linking, and then going Random Button Bl'urfing. One thing I noticed, especially in the comment sections of other blogs, was a comment--or I should say a simple " :) " smiley from Alex D. that would appear in many comment areas. Sometimes Alex would simply say Cool! to the blog host. That is, unless there was a spammer, flamer, or other comment annoyance, then Alex D. was quick to point that out to the Blog host. And yes, all of the signature comment styles of Alex D. also appeared on both my Blogs, (including pointing out my first spam commenter). Thanks Alex.
I have stopped at Alex's Blog R2K, quite a few times, and have enjoyed every visit. Seeing that it is Thanksgiving Weekend in Canada, it seems appropriate to describe Alex's R2K Blog as a "cornucopia" that overflows with Bloggy treats that would appease even the most voracious Bl'ilgrim, and not one post is a turkey! Unless he can find a Ninja Turkey. And with a hit counter of 64K, and counting, fast, Alex leaves them wanting more. You may also notice in Alex's Graffiti Wall, that he notes his friend Deepak. Alex emailed me, saying that he wanted to add Deepak The Great to his graffiti wall, because he feared that Deepak might shy away from painting up a wall himself. A great blogger, and a good friend too, that's Alex :)! Great job on the wall Alex, hope you had fun with it. Alex is a prolific blogger, and just click on his profile, you will see that he host four blogs. You might want to stop byAlex's New York Bathrooms on your visit too it's :) cool! And you'll never know when this info may come in handy!

Well, Wow! This wonderful wall is from SilverSabre, whose blog is entitled "A Sketch by Any Other Name". His blog is a vessel for his art, sharing insites and veiws of our world, and communing with friends, and fellow bloggers. He challenges us with quizzes, and shares himself and his likes and dislikes with meme challenges. SilverSabre is insightful, genuine, and sometimes classes himself as a "lazy blogger". Hey now, cut and paste isn't lazy, just efficient ;). Silversabre dedicates this wall to his Blogger friend, Anusha, whom I believe is the true identity of Super Hero Terra Shields (our Previous GMB Rebel Artist). And again, wow! This is truly a very wonderful wall. Thank's SilverSaber for sharing! There's a couple of buildings in town that this would look very good on, really!
