Urgent Prayer Request for Youcef Nadarkhani

According to the constitution of Iran its citizens are given freedom for religious practice. Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani attempted to exercise his freedom of religion when school officials tried to enforced a government policy that required that all children study the Quran in school. As a result of his protest, the secret police demanded that pastor Youcef Nadarkhani appear before a political tribunal. He was arrested and was later charged with apostasy and evangelism of Muslims.

Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani was tried on September 21, 2010 and was condemned to dead on November 13 for apostasy. Currently our brother in Christ is in jail were the authorities have tried every trick in the book, to include torture, medication, etc, in order to convert him back to Islam.

Since they were not able to convert him back to Islam, the authorities retaliated by arresting brother Youcef Nadarkhani’s wife, by putting her on trial without an attorney present, and sentenced our sister in Christ to life in prison. By the mercy of God, she was later released from prison after winning an appeal.

The authorities have not executed our brother Youcef Nadarkhani yet. While we are thankful that he is still alive, we know that he is still suffering tremendously at the hands of those who have unjustly put him in prison.

Let us pray that the Holy Spirit of God will descend upon our brother pastor Youcef Nadarkhani, and that his heart will be filled with an immeasurable courage and strength. That as he endures this unjust punishment from his torturers, his unwavering love for Christ will serve as a powerful evangelism tool like no other. Let us also pray for his family and for their safety. Finally Lord, we pray for the release of our brother. That as we join together in prayer, the shackles that blind those who have unjustly persecuted him will be removed from their hearts, and that compassion may move them to release our brother so he can be reunited with his family. Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on our brother and on his family. In Christ we pray. Amen.

Urgent Prayer Request for Behnam Irani

In 1992, Behnam Irani was touched and moved by the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, and he accepted Him as his Lord and Savior. Ten years after accepting Christ, he became a pastor. Of course, both his acceptance of Christ, and his wanting to serve Jesus as a pastor meant that he became an enemy of the authorities in his country Iran. As all of you know, Iran is a country ruled by a corrupted totalitarian and oppressive regime. In Iran, Christians are hated and persecuted by the government.

Because of his service to Jesus Christ, Behnam Irani is considered an enemy of the state, and back in April 14,2010 officers from the Ministry of Intelligence and National Security (MOIS) unjustly raided Irani’s house church, and after assaulting him, they took him into custody. A couple of months after his arrest, Pastor Irani was released on bail, and later he received a one year prison sentence for his alleged crimes. After he began to serve his one year prison sentence, Pastor Irani received the news that he will have to serve five years now, for similar charges from the past.

At the start of his sentence, our brother Irani was placed in solitary confinement, he was later moved to an over crowded cell were prisoners did not have enough room to lie down and sleep. Our brother in Jesus, Pastor Irani has been moved to a normal cell, but there are reports that he is called out of the cell daily to be tortured and beaten daily. As a result, his health is very poor and he needs our prayers.

Let us pray for our brother in Christ. That the Holy Spirit of God will give him strength to continue moving forward. That his heart will be so filled with joy and compassion, that those who beat him daily will wonder and inquire what it is that helps him endure such brutal treatment. In that way, they too may also be converted to Christ. Also, that when he is tortured in order to make him recant, that God’s Holy Angels will come and minister to him, and that he may remain strong in his faith. We also pray that his family and those who attended his church will be filled with hope and a great faith, so that they may not lose heart, and so that they may continue to pray for Pastor Irani with great confidence.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on your servant Irani, set him free from the hands of those who torment him daily, and allow his love for you to bring about a revival and conversion amongst the people of Iran. Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on Irani and his family. In Christ we pray. Amen.

Obviously he was prepared to die for Christ and the Gospel. This makes me wonder, how prepared am I to die for the Gospel? Have I prepared those to whom I ministered to to die for Christ? Reflecting on this moment certainly brings me closer to facing the reality of my baptismal calling. After all, when I accepted Christ, I accepted the cross and with the cross comes sacrifice.

This also makes me think of my brothers and sisters who are being persecuted in many parts of the world. They face this reality daily. I am tempted to say that I am blessed for not having to endure what they endure, but am I really better off? I mean, they suffer greatly, but their focus is completely on Christ. I do not suffer as they do, but my eyes are more than often all over the place.

Merciful Jesus, have mercy on our persecuted brethren. Fill their hearts with complete joy and courage, and more importantly with perfect love for you and those who persecute them. Build and prepare us who have never had to endure as they do, that when the time comes, we will be able to withstand and accept whatever the suffering may be, for the glory and honor of your name. Sacred Heart of Jesus, convert our hearts into the image of our hearts. In your name we pray Lord Christ. Amen.

Black Friday Sales Are Up!

According to a recent survey, profits for the Black Friday Shopping Holiday are up by 7 percent over last year’s profits. Other financial reports show that Black Friday shoppers spent $11.4 billion this year, beating last year’s record by $1 billion.

Black Friday sales numbers normally serve retailers as a forecasting tool for the Christmas sales numbers, so this year retailers have a lot to be exited about. All they have to do is keep buyers interested on coming back to purchase more, and the best way to do that is to have sales that buyers can’t resist.

Additionally, it is reported that online sales grew by 24.3 percent from last year based on tracking that was done by IBM on 500 online retailers. So if we make assumptions based on the number of sales during the Black Friday Shopping Events, there is a great chance that consumer outlook will improve over the holiday season. This is something that the U.S. economy desperately needs as the nation tries to move forward economically.

Black Friday Violence On The Rise

On the other side of the positives that we can enjoy from this Black Friday, it appears that even though all major retailers and malls stepped up security in order to increase customer safety, some very disturbing events manage to take place anyway.

For instance, in Los Angeles, a woman anxious to get an Xbox at a Walmart store spewed pepper spray on people in order to gain an advantage over other patrons. Authorities have not been able to determine who this woman is; however, an investigation is under way to determine who this woman is, and then she is likely to face assault charges from the authorities (There are reports that this woman turned herself into authorities).

Also, there are reports that in New York crowds looted a clothing store. In Phoenix, a man suspected of shoplifting a video game ended up in a bloody altercation with police officers. So instead of people learning from the stampede incident back in Black Friday 2008, it appears that folks are bent on becoming more aggressive than before.

I understand that all these major retailers and every retailer out there sees the great potential behind the Black Friday Shopping Events, but moving in to the family time tradition filled Thanksgiving Holiday can not be a positive thing. Yes our economy could use a boost, our under employed citizens could use some extra hours especially during the holiday season, but will they be able to enjoy the holidays if they have to work?

Many Will Now Have To Work Thanksgiving Day

If all these retailers open up their stores before and during Thanksgiving day, a lot of moms and dads will not be able to spend time with their family. As all of you know, Thanksgiving is a day when families come together in order to share with each other. Thousands of Americans travel across the country to be with each other every year during this holiday. So what effect will this have on the family life of many people?

Not only that, Black Friday is a day that was spun off from the Thanksgiving festivities, so if the Thanksgiving holiday is virtually eliminated or replaced by the Black Friday shopping day, will Black Friday survive?

Why Not Keep Black Friday As It Was?

Hopefully retailers will realize that keeping Black Friday on the day after Thanksgiving is as profitable as moving it ahead a few days. I think a lot of people had already developed a tradition of going shopping the day after Thanksgiving, and that if they remove tradition from the equation, they might end up hurting their profits instead of making more money.

There was a trend of big retailers offering their Black Friday Deals Online taking place in the market place. Perhaps retailers should focus their energy on making the online shopping experience a bigger extension of the shopping holidays instead of taking away one of the only holidays in this country that still brings families together to share.

Personally, I think that CBS, as every other network out there, is aware of their audience. Because they were marketing to a specific audience, that is conservative Republicans and the "Christian" right; and since this particular demographic tends to be biased towards woman, their marketing dictated that she be ignored. After all, the audience was not interested on what she had to say, since she is a woman, and conservative Republicans(in particular the "Christian" right) will not even entertain the idea of a female president.

So what do you thing? Why is she polling at 4%? She is a true conservative, she believes what she says unlike the others. So why is she not on the lead?

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama's health care law created a $5 billion fund to shore up coverage for early retirees, and some of that money is flowing to places you might not expect.

Two Texas public employee programs are among the top 25 recipients of the federal subsidy despite Texas Gov. Rick Perry's opposition to the law Republicans derisively call "Obamacare."

And records show the Huntsman family business, where GOP presidential candidate Jon Huntsman sharpened his executive skills, received about $1 million.

It highlights the gap between dire Republican rhetoric about the health care overhaul and the pragmatic impulse to cash in on a new government benefit.

Employer-sponsored health insurance for retirees has been shriveling for years, ever since companies were required to report the estimated liability to investors. Democrats who wrote the new law wanted to provide an incentive for employers to keep offering coverage. Only about 6 percent of private companies currently offer such a benefit for early retirees, according to the nonpartisan Employee Benefit Research Institute.

But that still works out to more than 400,000 companies. Add state and local government agencies, as well as union plans, and the number swells. Indeed, the Obama administration's subsidy program got so many applications it stopped accepting new ones after approving more than 6,000. The program pays 80 percent of the claims amount for early retirees ages 55 to 64 whose care costs between $15,000 and $90,000.

The top beneficiary: the United Auto Workers retiree medical plan, which has collected more than $220 million.

"Some people have described this program as 'Cash for Clunkers,' in the sense that if you want it, you have to get in line first," said Paul Fronstin, an economist with the research group. "There was a lot of advice given to be first in line." The original Cash for Clunkers was an Obama administration program that paid people to trade in gas guzzlers for more fuel-efficient transportation. It created a marketing sensation before running out of cash.

Texas, it seems, heeded the advice. So did Huntsman International.

The Teacher Retirement System of Texas, a statewide system for public education employees, received more than $70 million as of Sept. 22, according to the federal Health and Human Services Department. The Employees Retirement System of Texas, which covers state employees, received about $30 million.

Huntsman International, the main operating subsidiary of the family-founded chemical conglomerate, is also collecting subsidies.

As candidates, both Perry and Huntsman have sworn to repeal Obama's signature health care law, which gradually extends coverage to most of the uninsured and makes numerous other changes, including a ban on insurers denying coverage to people in poor health and an unpopular requirement that most Americans carry coverage.

Spokesmen for the Perry and Huntsman campaigns said they see no contradictions.

Texas taxpayers also pay federal taxes, said Perry spokesman Ray Sullivan. "State taxpayers have a right to get those federal funds returned to them, in this care in the form of disbursement to the teachers and state employee retirement systems," said Sullivan. "No Texas law or policy needed to be changed in order for these agencies to be eligible to receive the funds."

Huntsman spokesman Tim Miller said his candidate, Obama's first ambassador to China and a former governor of Utah, is opposed to all subsidies.

Jon Huntsman has not been involved in the family business since 2005, said company spokesman Gary Chapman. Huntsman resigned from the company to pursue his political career.

Asked why Huntsman International applied for the early retiree subsidy, Chapman responded: "We're a commercial organization. We are looking to maximize our shareholders' value. If there was a legitimate opportunity for us to get help in this respect, we would go for it."

Republicans have tried to paint the early retiree subsidy program as a political reward to unions, among the staunchest Democratic loyalists. According to calculations by the office of Sen. Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., the United Auto Workers Retiree Medical Benefits Trust has made out the best.

A UAW spokeswoman did not respond to requests for comment. In its 2007 contracts with Chrysler, GM and Ford, the union agreed to form the trust to pay health care costs for the companies' retirees, including early retirees too young to qualify for Medicare. The trust started paying bills in January 2010, before Congress passed the health care law.

The calculations by Enzi's staff also list AT&T, Verizon, General Electric, General Motors, Qwest, Caterpillar and other private companies in the top 25, not to mention the two Texas state programs. AT&T received $157 million.

Several media companies are also benefiting. The Associated Press, a nonprofit news-gathering service owned by the nation's newspapers, has received $191,888.

Back in Texas, public and private employer retiree plans have collected more than $326 million from the subsidy. They range from American Airlines to Texas A&M University — Perry's alma mater.
