Spotlight: Ere Perez Makeup is My Favourite.

In the past couple of months whilst taking a break from all things blogging, I've really got my whole beauty routine down to a fine art - I think it must be something to do with not reading other blogs and keeping up with the new releases, it's been cleansing for my SOUL and also kinda great for my skin.

If I'm putting makeup on my face, I'm probably using something, if not several items from Ere Perez. Over the past couple of years, I've grown to really love the brand. (Check out this post from 2016!) The clean minimal packaging is gorgeous and I love that everything (EXCEPT for two of the mascaras at the time of writing, boo) is vegan.

It's not just the makeup though, having branched out into skincare too, the brand has really gone all out and carried on their minimalist, millennial approved aesthetic perfectly. I had to get the micellar water ASAP and obviously followed shortly after with the toner (not pictured in this post).

So what have I tried and loved, or maybe not so loved?

1) Quinoa Water Foundation in Haze

I hate starting on a negative, but trust me the only way is UP after this. Unfortunately, this foundation just didn't sit well on my skin and the colour was (this is the lightest shade) still a little too dark. I found it tricky to blend and it would gather in all the areas you don't want a foundation to gather. A real shame.

2) Ginkgo Micellar Water

My favourite & a repurchase! This simple micellar has been fab for my skin. The bottle is 200ml so thankfully lasts a good while! Even when used nearly every day (I'd say about 3-4 months but that depends on your personal usage!). I went through a stage recently where I just couldn't be bothered to do any sort of cleansing routine to remove makeup in the evenings, but of course, you can't sleep with makeup on!! even if you're not going to moisturise, let your skin breathe! So micellar to the rescue - no stinging eyes, every scrap removed, no tight skin sensations and I'm ready for bed, good night x

3) Oat Milk Foundation

I love oat milk to drink, and it turns out I also love it in a foundation! What a multi-tasking little grain.

I actually don't use this as a foundation, as I found the lightest shade 'latte' just a touch to ghostly pale for my whole face. Instead, I use this under my eyes and around the centre of my face where my skin is pretty red, plus dabbed over any spots before I apply my mineral foundation. It's sort of like my concealer and primer in one. It really brightens and evens everything out so that I don't have to use layers and layers of mineral foundation.

It sounds like a farce but this is a routine that really works for me. On its own, it's too pale and maybe a touch too glowy, and my mineral foundation can be too dry, so together??? it's a match made in heaven.

4) Cacao Lip Colour in Wander

Described as a "creamy cool blackberry lip colour" this lip tint/balm is one of my favourite lip colours lately. I'm pretty nervous of lipstick, especially dark lipstick, but I love berry colours! This balmy tint is actually quite pigmented and can be built up to an impressive blackberry shade (much darker than the models pictured through the link). It doesn't last too long through eating or drinking, but as it's more of a balm with lots of hydrating ingredients I really don't mind.

Also, the packaging is just lovely, it feels high quality and weighty, plus, has a satisfying click!

Also pictured: Beetroot lip & cheek tint in the OLD PACKAGING. This now has a new formula and easier to use packaging so I can't really comment on this old one much - other than to say holy moly! So pigmented and bright!

An old eyeshadow which I can't find online. Ere Perez seem to have scrapped these old duo eyeshadows for upgraded palettes that look dreamy! I've only heard good things.

NOT PICTURED BUT I REALLY LOVE: Carrot Colour Pot in 'Holy' This little colour pot is a top favourite contender! The only reason it's not pictured is because Oliver ran off with it & I couldn't find it for a few weeks. Toddlers, man!

Vegan Friendly Morning Skincare Routine.

My morning skincare routine is brief. I'm not a morning person at all, between getting ready for work and trying to chase down the small boy to get him ready too, there are about 5 minutes left just for me.

I love using bar soap to wash my face in the morning, obviously one specifically for my face and not just any old bar of soap. Currently, I'm using the Gallinée Prebiotic Cleansing Bar (£10) It smells mild, fresh and a little sweet and really freshens up my complexion in the morning with a gentle creamy lather. The bar is actually soap-free and "is made from gentle cleansing actives in a solid form, called a Syndet." Whatever that is, I'm digging it and so is my face.

Next up is a crucial step, and possibly my favourite. Toning! Spritzing! A good ol' mist! I'm obsessed with the Tropic Vitamin Toner (£14) lately. The scent, the airy light mist, the cooling effect, all dreamy. Packed full of nourishing, soothing and hydrating liquid ingredients, it's the best wake up call in the morning.

Next, we have the serum stage. My skin is super fussy and problematic with the colder weather (and perhaps my sugary filled diet as of late) so I've been trialling the Tropic Pure Lagoon Blemish Prevention Serum (£42) This water-based blue serum smells like watermelon and contains clever vitamins and minerals, hyaluronic acid and salicylic acid to keep skin in tip-top condition. I've only been using the serum for about 2 weeks now, but I really rate it for healing blemishes. I also like to mix it in the morning with my final layer - moisturiser, to save time!

My moisturiser of choice lately has been the Trilogy Very Gentle Moisturising Cream (£25.50). A purchase for dry winter-worn skin and serious sensitivity. I was looking for a cream that was free from jojoba and coconut, with pretty simple ingredients and this fit the bill nicely. The cream itself is thick, really thick, like butter! I only need to use a dab or else my skin ends up smeared in a thick cream that takes an age to sink in. It's great to slather on any sore bits or if my dermatitis flares up, though!

I really like how this makes my skin look really nourished and plump with makeup, a huge win especially as I prefer to use powder foundation. My only negative is the jar packaging, which is a shame as I know it used to come packaged in a tube!

Smelling Like Heaven.

When showering, there are some people who jump in, scrub until clean and jump straight back out again. I am not one of those people. I'm probably the exact opposite, I guess you could say I dawdle, but I just like to take my time.

I discovered the Dr. Hauschka Lavender & Sandalwood Body Wash in a beauty discovery kit quite some time ago. One sniff and I was hooked! I think maybe I've typed the words 'I love Lavender' about 20,000 times on the blog in the past, and it's still just as true today. I really, really adore Lavender, guys. I could quite literally bathe in the stuff, and luckily for me, this body wash comes close.
The formula is rich and creamy, as you would expect from a high-end product and the scent is very strong. I like to rub a 50p sized blob between my hands and hold to my face to breathe in deep before use. Those few seconds of steamy shower + dreamy scent are something I really look forward too. Instantly calming, relaxing, soothing, and every other word for 'brain melts into a happy puddle' you can think of. It's lavender, and so much more, woodsy, warm, inviting, it smells luxurious and even a little bit fancy. I'm sure you understand how hard it is to describe a scent with words, but just know I tried ;)

Skin stays soft after use, there's no dry or itchy limbs once rinsed away.

This scent also comes in a body cream (I picked up a little sample from Love Lula) which is lush, the cream is really light but the scent is just not as potent as the body wash so for me it's a nice-to-have, not a need-to-have sort of product.

Tried & Tested: Alteya Mists.

I don't want to sound like a broken record but I really love toners and facial mists. Uplifting, refreshing, cooling, hydrating - there's nothing they can't do. I've tried so many, from homemade to high-end luxury and everything in between.

The Alteya brand was unknown to me before discovering them on LoveLula. I was particularly interested to learn that they have their own rose and lavender fields, distillery and skin care manufacturing facility in the heart of The Rose Valley in Bulgaria. Nearly everything is grown and made in-house by the brand, ensuring freshness and quality, and best of all, the prices are really affordable for products that are organic!

I have been using two mists; the Organic Bulgarian Rose Water Spray, £7.20 for 100ml, and the Organic Melissa Water Spray, £7.20 for 100ml.

I picked up the rosewater first as I really like the soothing one ingredient wonder that is Rose. I use this morning and night as a toner, after mineral makeup application to stop it looking powdery and I also mix it with powdered masks. Fun fact: Alteya rose water is food grade and you can add it to any recipes that use rose! It does all that it's supposed to and smells beautiful, a true soft rose scent that isn't overpowering or artificial. The 100ml bottle has also lasted me several months with regular use, winning!

Rose has so many wonderful benefits for our skin and also our overall wellbeing. It's:

Therapeutic
Anti-inflammatory and acne-preventing
Balancing
Anti-ageing and moisturising
Rejuvenating, stimulating and harmonizing
Digestion-stimulating and antiseptic.

Now for the Melissa water (AKA Lemon Balm), according to Alteya this mist helps awaken and tone up dull skin. It is also useful for troublesome skin and helps against skin irritation and inflammation. Perfect! My skin is oily, troublesome and always irritated in some way or another, I blame my hormones and a lack of sleep.

This mist smells very strong, to me it smells like tomato juice, slightly acidic and, well, like tomatoes, not lemons. But does it work?

... Maybe? I use this on days when I think my skin is acting up a little more than usual, and by the end of a long day I have no idea if my skin is less oily than it would have been without the mist, I just cleanse my skin, mist again and slap on some moisturiser then fall into bed.

I actually got a compliment on how much my skin is improving from my boyfriend the other day, so I must be doing something right!

Need some new deodorant in this heatwave??

Vegan deodorant is not that difficult to find and neither is deodorant that uses clean + natural ingredients. But when you combine the two you narrow your search pool even further as a lot of natural deo's are balms that use beeswax. I was worried there wouldn't be too many options on the market, but to my surprise there are loads! So many in fact that I struggled to narrow this guide down to just 6. I easily could have bought 10 more to try and include, but with 6 deodorants on the go this past couple of months things were getting out of hand!

The Roll-On's

Neal's Yard Peppermint & Lime Roll-On Deodorant / £8
One of my most used simply because of the ease! It's a roll on! No melting a solid stick or sticking your fingers into a pot. The scent I chose isn't my favourite, the lime & mint combination smells a little like citronella. I would choose the rose & geranium if I could go back in time.
In terms of doing its job? It promises 24hr protection but I think it begins to falter before a full morning to evening's wear time is up. And obviously, it's not an antiperspirant so you will sweat (which is healthy and normal!), but it does contain some moisture absorbing ingredients, not that I've ever noted them working.. 6/10

Benecos Apricot & Elderflower Roll-On Deodorant / £5.95
The least expensive and my least favourite, unfortunately. The scent is delicious and so fruity and fresh, it's a real shame that the scent doesn't linger and the deodorant really doesn't work that well, especially in this summer heat. Reapplication is needed, but even then, you just sort of feel tacky and body odor lingers. Lovely. 2/10

The Unusual One & The Plastic Free One

Pacifica Deodorant Wipes / £7.99
I bought these oh so many moons ago to take with me to the hospital when I had Oliver. My thoughts were if I ended up stuck in bed for some time, these could freshen me up! And I actually did use them, just once, but still. I've used them a couple of times since then, they're just handy for sweaty moments that catch you off guard, but they're not essential, and you can't really keep them in your bag or anything because the pack is pretty large! 5/10

Ben & Anna Natural Soda Deodorant - Vanilla Orchid / £9.95
Deodorant in a card tube! I love that it means there's no waste at all, the packaging does get grubby and greasy over time but it's deodorant, it's not a fancy bottle of perfume you keep on display. This is the most expensive but does work quite well to keep you dry for awhile thanks to the arrowroot and starch combo. My one dislike is that the stick isn't the easiest to use - it doesn't really melt into the skin, you have to rub it under your arms to deposit some of the cream and then rub it into the skin yourself as it's so thick (winter application would be a pain I imagine!). I do love the vanilla scent and it lingers for quite a while, but there's a whole host of other scents if you're interested. 7/10

The Charcoal Ones

Native Unearthed Activated Charcoal Natural Deodorant Balm / £6.99
My new favourite! The balm is really creamy and easy to use, it melts between your fingers and under your arms really easily and I love the scent - it's fresh and a little lavender-y. Like every other, it doesn't really stop you sweating, but after walking to and from work, a day in the office and then cooking tea in a kitchen that gets the evening sun and quickly turns into a furnace in this mega heatwave, I was hot and bothered, sure, but not a hint of any stink could be detected. (Also worth noting that mine is a smaller size pot!). I don't like deo's in pots, but this is a good 'un! Does charcoal make it better, though? I really couldn't say... 8/10

Kaia Naturals The Takesumi Detox Charcoal Deodorant / $10
I really wanted to like this deodorant, and I tried really hard as I've used it for aaaaaages (this is a sample size that just won't quit) but the scent is meh and it doesn't last very long in terms of B.O. and sweat suppression. Luckily you can't get this in the UK as there are better out there. It's one redeeming quality? The solid stick melts quite easily into the skin so you don't have to wait around holding it under your arms. Oh and, it's baking soda free. 3/10

Got any recommendations for me once I finish all of these?

Transitioning to Cloth Nappies

We purchased our first cloth nappy (from Asda of all places!) when Oliver was 10 weeks old, it was a Bambino Mio Miosolo nappy with a cute bumblebee print. I didn't know too much about cloth nappies, but after that first purchase I dived right into research and have been obsessed ever since. They're just so much better for the planet, it's got to be done. Oli is now 7 and a half months old and we're not 100% cloth over here, but we are getting closer. We don't currently have enough nappies for full-time use and have only one nappy really suitable for night time use. But I'm working on it!

The Cost of Cloth.

Yes, when you see the cost of one cloth nappy it can make you gasp. The premium, more expensive brands charge £20+ for one nappy! But you can also buy cheaper brands, buy pre-loved or buy a different system which might be more economical.
Our first nappy, the Miosolo was £10 because it was on offer, they're usually about £15. Our most expensive nappy is the BumGenius Freetime (£19.99) which Oliver is wearing in the photo's, and typically it's one of my favourites to use because it's the easiest of the lot! We also have 3 Little Bloom nappies, which are a cheap brand sold on Amazon and Ebay, the nappies range from £2.50 to £4.50 depending on inserts and fabric. I bought these after my first nappy purchase to see if cloth was for me, they're cheap, cheerful and have some really cute prints (The yellow cat print Oli is holding below is Little Bloom!) They get the job done but probably won't last the years and years of use some other makes would. Some brands really hold their value too, so if I decide to sell them after Oliver is out of nappies I might be able to get about 50% of what I spent returned if they remain in good condition. You can't do that with disposables!

For full-time usage, I guess you would need around 15 daytime nappies and 3-4 night nappies. That's probably a minimum. Nappy brands are constantly releasing new prints and updating their ranges with new technology so you might find yourself a little addicted to picking up new designs. We have 10 nappies total right now, that gives us 2-3 full days per week of cloth nappy use, the rest of the time we use Naty eco friendly-disposables whilst the cloth nappies are being washed. He also doesn't use cloth when staying with grandparents on the days I'm at work, but I would like to get them to give it a go.

But What About All The Washing?

For us at the moment it's two extra loads per week, and as I'm only washing about 6 or 7 nappies at a time (you don't want to leave them sat about for too long!) it takes 2 minutes to hang them out to dry. Cloth nappies, when you get the fit right (it takes a little practice as it's not the same as a disposable) are bomb proof, so you probably won't have to deal with quite as many "explosions" that seep through layers and layers of clothes in those early days! bonus! I thought washing them would be pretty grim, but honestly, it's not bad at all, I don't even think about it now.
Cloth isn't as absorbent as a disposable though so you may need to change more often, but generally a good nappy should last 2-4 hours in the day and night nappies should last all night.

And What About The Different Systems?!`

Now, this is where it can get a little confusing, and it took me quite a while to get my head around. The cloth nappies that you see in my pictures are either all-in-ones or pocket nappies. But there are two other types also, all in two's or two-part systems. This link describes it quickly and easily with an image of each type of nappy. And it will save me having to bore you with all the differences. All-in-ones are the easiest and pocket nappies dry the fastest but I think it's good to have a mix!

I'm going to be purchasing this trial from Tots Bots soon as it will allow us to give their two-part system a go and see what all the fuss is about with their night time nappy, the bamboozle stretch! The pictured funky bright orange nappy with a robot print is a Tots Bots Easyfit Star and it's great!

Brands, Styles, & All The Prints!

Another overwhelming part of getting into cloth nappies is the amount of choice! So many brands, so many styles, and so many colourful prints.

My preferred shops are BabiPur and The Nappy Lady, and there are a load more places online, but you can also pick up in person in Asda, and some Boots stores I think. There are also plenty of facebook groups you can join where you can pick up some pre-loved nappies for a couple of quid, this is really great if you just want to give them a trial or test a new brand before investing in new.

The brands we have at the moment are: Tots Bots, BumGenius, Bambino Mio, Close Pop Ins (not pictured) Little Bloom, Little Lamb (The dark teal) and Baba + Boo (the cute cacti print). At the moment my preference is for velcro fastenings as Oliver wants to roll and crawl away the second I lie him down, but the disadvantage of velcro is that eventually, he will probably learn he can undo the nappy by his self. Poppers are more time consuming but they are very secure!

Most brands release limited edition prints seasonally and they're pretty much always gorgeous. The latest Bambino Mio prints are BEAUTIFUL! I gotta get that tropical toucan print asap. Like I needed any more expensive addictions in my life, but hey here we are.

And that's all for now. There was a lot of nitty-gritty details I didn't cover like nappy liners and washing powder, but maybe that's for next time. Hopefully, I can update you if we make it to cloth full time! #goals.

Magical Masks.

I've used countless, I've loved loads, and yet I know there will always be more to try. I suppose that's one small benefit of having problem skin, you know when you're using a really good mask because the results are extra visible.

I've been using the two masks pictured in a rotation for a couple of months now, and finally, have the time to document my thoughts.

Kimberly Sayer Deep Cleaning French Green Clay Mask.

I feel like Kimberly Sayer is a bit of a secretive cult brand. There's not a lot of talk about them online. They have a very clinical and professional sort of look and for quite some time this put me off trying the brand as, typical me, I'm drawn to pretty packaging.

This clay mask sounds like it should be incredibly harsh and drying, but that couldn't be farther from the truth if you catch a glimpse of the ingredients list.
Safflower seed oil, aloe vera leaf juice, vegetable glycerin, lavender water, oat beta glucan... It reads more like a creamy moisturising mask. And it does feel creamy to apply, it doesn't make your skin feel tight of painful as it slowly dries, honestly, I forget I even have it on sometimes.

All of this sounds dreamy, and you wouldn't think it would pack such a punch after all of that, but it really lives up to the term deep cleansing as this always brings any gunk to the surface and clears up my skin.

Isla Apothecary Refine + Radiate Beautifying Face Mask.
With just three luxurious ingredients, the Refine + Radiate mask has been created to "soothe, restore moisture, and nurture even the most sensitive skin types to greater resiliency." It does this with coconut milk powder, turmeric and sandalwood powder, and as you can see from the incredible orange shade, it looks pretty potent.
I was initially drawn to this mask because of the sandalwood powder, said to be wonderful for oily skin it has antiseptic and antibacterial properties to combat breakouts. It's not an ingredient I had come across before and I was keen to try it out!

Because of the coconut milk powder, I reach for this mask whenever my skin is irritated or dry. It really does soothe and leave my skin soft, bright and calm. And maybe a little yellow tinted. You can remove the staining with a cotton pad and some toner but I try to leave the residue on overnight and just apply some moisturiser, as I'm sure I read once that the benefits of the Tumeric can work their magic better if you leave it.

This is my favourite mask of the two for sure, I love the benefits, I love mixing my own mask up with some water and I love the way my skin looks the day after!

Loving Lavera...

My love for Lavera Shampoo started with a hunt for a bargain. I don't like paying a lot for shampoo, I mean I totally will if I've tried everything else and nothing is working for me, or I'm sold on the swishy ingredients list and marketing lingo, but I'll always try something cheaper if I can.
We've gone through a lot of shampoo in this house, both myself and Michael have fussy scalps that get itchy and sore if we use anything harsh (usually if it's not natural) and we've tried a lot of shampoo labelled specifically for a sensitive scalp that works for one or two bottles and then the pain returns and we need to move on. Hair does actually get used to products, so switching it up is no bad thing at all. We've been using Lavera (the blue bottle) for just over a year, and it's just now that I'm starting to need something new.

The Lavera Basis Sensitiv Moisture & Care Shampoo, £6.95, is that perfect blend of cleansing with no build up or greasy residue, but leaves my hair so soft, shiny and conditioned that I rarely needed conditioner. Made with almond milk, aloe vera and avocado it sounds like a fancy green smoothie. It kept my scalp in perfect condition and my hair feeling healthy bottle after bottle (I think I've gone through 5 or 6!). What I also love about this shampoo and the other Lavera shampoos that I've been using, is that they foam up. I can't be dealing with a shampoo that has no bubbles, I never feel like my hair is clean!

The green Freshness and Balance Shampoo, £6.95, was a purchase for Michael who's hair gets oily quicker than mine, but I've been using this too if I've used a little too much dry shampoo or hair oil. It removes residue with ease and leaves hair feeling clean, a little squeaky perhaps but not super stripped or dry. I do always follow up with a little conditioner though.

Lastly, I purchased the Volume & Strength Shampoo, £6.95, most recently because postpartum hair loss is real, guys. I feel like I might be bald soon at this rate! ;) I can't say I've noticed a difference in hair loss slowing down yet, but I do like how it makes my hair feel. The formula contains Vitamin C and Green Tea to strengthen those all-important roots. Perhaps I need to use this exclusively to see a major difference because I still like to use the Moisture & Care most often.

I'm now on the lookout and ready to try a few new brands and products in the bathroom because I think my hair is used to these now. Michael is starting to complain about his hair too... maybe it's the warmer weather!
I did just see that they have a new 2-in-1 Deep Care & Repair Shampoo and Conditioner which sounds diiiiivine! Perhaps I'll pick up a bottle of that for testing purposes, of course ;)
