Martello Tower 66

Martello tower number 66 was constructed in 1805-6 and was built to augment the firepower of the six-gun shore battery known as East Langney Fort or Langney Redoubt, built in 1795. It is located just to the north of Langney Point, Eastbourne. Over the years it has been subject to several modifications, such as the addition of a concrete roof for a gun emplacement during the Second World War. This structure is still extant, and in turn supports a temporary structure which is part of its current use as a coastguard station. The tower is both a Listed Building and a Scheduled Monument.

Dandelions are well-known weeds. The name derives from the French 'dent de lion', which refers to the deeply toothed leaves arranged in rosettes . The yellow flower heads are borne on hollow stalks and the seed heads are familiar to children as dandelion clocks, which are used to 'tell the time' by the number of blows taken to remove the seeds . Vernacular names for the dandelion include 'wet-the-bed' and 'pissy-beds', which refer to the belief that just touching part of a dandelion can cause bed-wetting .

The Seven Sisters

Walking from Seaford to the Cuckmer River Estuary through the Seaford Head Nature Reserve, in glorious weather.
The Reserve is located at the eastern end of Seaford, spanning from Seaford Head over to Cuckmere Valley and inland with the Cuckmere River. The Reserve is jointly owned by Seaford Town Council, the National Trust and East Sussex County Council.
Seaford Head is classed as a Nature Reserve because it encompasses so many valuable conservation habitats. It stands on one side of one of the last remaining undeveloped river mouths on the South Coast: the Cuckmere Estuary. It is home to many rare and significant species of plants, birds and insects, providing visitors with walks with stunning views of the Seven Sisters Cliffs and the Cuckmere River Valley.
