The toy industry promised safe toys for the holiday season. Who didn't know that would be a lie. Not only that it seems like our inability to ensure any of our imports are safe is putting us at more risk than we could imagine. We need to get these crooks and liars (Republicans) that are supposed to be strong on national security out of office before they kill us.

Edwards rises with populist message

While others in both parties continue to banter about anything but what they are going to do to help everyday working Americans, Edwards is the only candidate proudly carrying the populist message. He knows most of our problems stem from the powerful money interests that control our government. Because their influence is so strong, nearly every policy from the war, to health care, education, trade, the environment, are decided to benefit them, not the people of this country. Edwards is the only candidate not afraid to say it - and certainly the only one committed to doing something about it.

FOX ATTACKS! Edwards and Obama

Edwards, and Obama are being criticized for not appearing on Fox (I hesitate to call it) News. The only thing that could possibly happen to them or anyone else O'Reilly/Hannity (Murdock) have it in for is they would become fodder for the Fox-hounds who propagate the lies spewed from these neocon mouthpieces.
Any public figure with an ounce of credibility should join Edwards and others by initiating an outright Boycott of Fox N_ _ _ (I can't say it).

I remember when most of my friends had a decent job -- a pension which let them retire with dignity -- they bought a home and didn't worry about losing it because their job was outsourced or a health crisis forced them into bankruptcy -- they could send their children to college -- manufacturing thrived creating family supportive jobs -- you couldn't find a Walmart now there's 15 of them within 25 miles (that's what we get in place of manufacturing jobs) -- you could find almost anything you wanted made in the USA -- there was a trade surplus not a 728 billion dollar deficit -- there was a 230 billion dollar budget surplus not a 280 billion dollar deficit -- we didn't invade countries and there was peace -- the U.S. was a respected global leader now we are hated -- All this and more has happened solely because of the policies of the Bush administration and until recently a Republican controlled Congress. We've seen the damage done. It's time for change. It's time for someone to stand up and fight for everyday working Americans and lead our country back to prosperity -- and peace.

John Edwards Challenges Corporate Power

It seems like Edwards' vocal, and from my point of view highly credible, challenge to corporate power is making some in the media terrified to endorse him. Well that's not hard to understand since the majority of the media in our country is corporate controlled. The first to cower to corporate power is the Des Moines Register. Although they endorsed Edwards in 2004 they picked Hillary this time. That should tell us all something. If a corporate owned newspaper endorses a candidate that is less of a challenge to corporate power; how strongly do you think that candidate will stand for everyday Americans if elected?

And watch, as Edwards continues to speak up for us more attacks will come . One media outlet after another will bow to their masters and endorse a less 'confrontational' candidate. And if we buy what the media will be selling us we will once again lose hope for real change in America.

Here's what Edwards had to say to George Stephanopoulos about his challenge to corporate power.

"What I’m saying is I’m going to be the president, like Teddy Roosevelt, and like others like him-Harry Truman, who understood that there is an important battle against those interests-well financed, well entrenched, that prevent the kind of change that the country needs, that’s for the greater good. That’s for the greater good of the people. That’s the battle I’m talking about and that’s the fight I’m going to take on and win. And those who think you can do it by making a deal with them or compromising and conciliation…what possible reason do they have to give their power away voluntarily? They will not do it until you effectively taken their power away from them."

I don't know about you but that's the kind of President I want looking out for me.

Call for Cheney Impeachment Hearing

We've know for quite some time now Cheney (and Bush) lied to get us into invading Iraq. We also know since 911 this administration manipulated evidence and used fear mongering to conduct illegal wiretaps on innocent Americans, hold people illegally denying them the right to councel, conducted torture, and undermined our civil liberties all in the name of a war on terror. Not to mention revealing the name of a covert CIA agent - for no other reason than political retribution.

Many in Congress have had enough. And there is enough evidence to initiate the impeachment process. But they need our help to get the hearings through Congress. The attached video by Congressman Robert Wexler lays out the facts and explains what we can do to help.

Toxic Toys Jingle

So far this year, more than 30 million lead-laced imported toys have been recalled in the United States. That's on top of millions more toys that pose choking and other hazards. Killer toys kinda make it hard for kids to truly enjoy the holidays. So a group of youngsters came together to offer the following yuletide message. I think it's an excellent summation of how Bush's policies have hurt this country as well as others.

Remember when Bush declared "Mission Accomplished" in Iraq? Now he's calling Iraq a "success."

Bush whined, "It's unconscionable to deny funds to our troops in harm's way because some in Congress want to force a self-defeating policy, especially when we're seeing the benefits of success."

The "benefits of success"???

Bush's "success" unleashed chaos that murdered 1 million Iraqis and drove 4 million more out of their homes into desperate poverty. Bush's "success" created a sectarian Shia government that ethnically cleansed Baghdad of Sunnis and Christians and corruptly lined its pockets with our tax dollars. Bush's "success" killed nearly 4,000 brave young Americans and maimed tens of thousands more, both physically and mentally, leading to 120 veterans' suicides each week. Bush's "success" broke our military, corrupted our intelligence agencies, and embraced torture as official U.S. policy.

Bush's "success" empowered Osama Bin Laden and handed half of Afghanistan back to the Taliban. Bush's "success" empowered dangerous dictators in Russia, Pakistan, Burma, Iran and Venezuela. Bush's "success" increased global terror and hatred of the United States.

Bush's "success" wasted $500 billion on Iraq, with trillions more to come. Bush's "success" added $4 trillion to our national debt and trillions more in future debts. Bush's "success" drove the price of oil from $16/barrel to nearly $100/barrel, and tripled the price of gasoline from $1.06 to $3.11.

America - and the world - cannot afford any more of Bush's "success."

I saw on CNN today the Dow dropped 3oo points. Third worse drop this year. It's a good thing the Democrats stopped Bush's attempt to privatize SSI last year. Just think what would happen to all those poor souls on Social Security Pensions if Wall Street had gotten a hold of their money.

Senseless Iraq war, Iran's next, terrorism, outsourcing our jobs, open borders, genetically engineered food, and now....... Toxic imports. You'd think the government would do something to stop the flow of toys contaminated with lead that's poisoning, even killing our children. Oh, the Consumer Product Safety Commission is too busy taking trips paid for by the toy companies.
As if all that isn't enough, the latest outrage is our prescription drugs. Our government says it doesn't have the resources to inspect more than 2% of the facilities in China that make our drugs. And you wonder why your Lexapro isn't working........
I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL 2008 WHEN WE CAN ELECT A DEMOCRAT WHO WILL DO SOMETHING. ANYTHING WILL BE BETTER THAN THIS!

I'm hearing all the reports about toys contaminated with poisonous lead. The White House saying with billions of imports coming in it can't inspect everything. And toy makers are dodging and retailers are ignoring the issue - stocking shelves for the Christmas shopping season knowing their products can harm or even kill our children. The only way this madness will stop is for someone to be made accountable. Our government is dysfunctional. Most of the products found dangerous and might even be categorized as lethal are made overseas. Primarily in Chinese sweatshops. Well, we're not going to change what happens in Communist China and time soon. The only realistic solution is to levy stiff fines on the toy manufacturers like Mattel and hold the CEOs criminally accountable. Then watch how fast the problem is fixed.

Last week Fox News flat out lied about a "recent" terrorist plot to set fires in the midwest. It turns out the story was false. Now if the people who saw that report only watch Fox News they probably still believe it to be true. I can't believe there hasn't been a FCC investigation. Oh wait --FCC??? That's our Government's Federal Conspiracy Commission. They're not going to do anything. Fox is the mouthpiece for the Bush terror organization and it's the FCC's job to keep it that way. Anyhow check this out about Bush's fear mongering and Fox News' lies.

The title of this Blog it partly taken from Al Franken's book Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them. I recommend it.

Fear and Patriotism - weapons of mass deception.
Well they're doing it again. Bush wants millions more for the war and he and Cheney pulled out their old weapons.
Fear -- perfectly choreographed with Bush's demand to congress for millions more for the war Cheney starts rattling sabers talking about war with Iran.
Patriotism - while Cheney gets everyone worked up about WWIII Bush plays the patriotism card. He says War is complicated but one thing isn't -- supporting the troops.
In other words Congress - if you don't give me the money you're not patriots.

Do You Have Health Care?

Nearly 47 million Americans were without health insurance in 2005. Nearly 70% of those are from working families. And the numbers are rapidly growing.

Yet every member of Congress enjoys free health care for life.

It should be the right of every citizen to have affordable, accessible, quality health care.

So why don't we have it? Because Bush and his conservative buddies are protecting the profits of the drug and insurance companies.

What can we do about it? In the next election don't vote for anyone who doesn't have plan, or doesn't support a plan for national health care for all.

George (I refuse to call him president) Bush has vetoed the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). This act further proves his lack of caring for everyday working people and their families. One of his claims was this program is a step toward socialized medicine. And what's so bad aboot that eh?

Obviously the drug and insurance companies would suffer and of course Bush couldn't let that happen. They're some of his biggest campaign contributors. Instead, let more than 3.8 million of children without health care do the suffering for them. And with a stroke of his pen that's exactly what Bush did. I think it's disgusting......

Stop Toxic Imports

We’ve been flooded with everything from toxic toys to lead-laced baby bibs, poisoned pet food and tainted tooth paste. It’s time to tell politicians and corporations that a cheaper price tag is not worth endangering our families’ health! If our government would do something to keep jobs in this country and allow unions to organize to help workers earn a family supportive wage we would have good jobs making enough money to pay for quality products made by U.S. workers. Seems logical right.

Why is it that logic often fails those who make our laws?

Oh yeah, I forgot. MONEY......
