Genesis theme framework is one of the framework themes that is becoming quite popular in recent days. Following the great success of thesis framework theme by Chris, its quite normal that we could see a good amount of competitors trying to share the piece of a pie on the market. And its definitely good to see healthy competition.

Genesis is one such theme similar to Thesis which offers a range options to customize the out look of your theme the way you want it to appear for your readers so in that sense this theme is quite flexible. With the latest release that is Genesis v1.3 they have made a leap forward by including many enhanced SEO options built in to it, this will reduce your work considerably to install extra plugins manually to embed SEO value in to your theme. Features includes page speed, robots.txt control, meta tags control, nofollow settings and much more.

You also get interesting plugins that can be used with this theme like Genesis Simple hook, Genesis Simple Sidebars which comes quite handy when you want to customize this theme to your needs. Over all you are on the lookout for a replacement for Thesis framework or some other framework themes which provides many functionalities and flexibility to handle the outlook of your blog easily then Genesis could make a good choice. Here is a sweet way to get the Neoclassical and Cutline style rotating headers into Thesis. I got this code from Neoclassical. Unlike other methods found in the forum, it is implemented entirely with a function in custom_functions.php. The header image is clickable if you so choose.

1. Make a new folder in thesis/custom/ for the header images. Mine is called header_img.
2. Put your header images into this folder. They should be named header_1.jpg, header_2.jpg etc, just like in Neoclassical and Cutline. There is no limit to the number of images you can use.

4. Change the number of header images you use in the rand statement. It’s the second number of the pair.
5. Change the size of your header images to what you want to use with the width and height statements. If you size your images before uploading, you can leave out the width and height statements entirely.
6. Change the alt text if you wish.

This function inserts the header image after the blog title. If you want to have rotating images instead of a blog title, use thesis_hook_before_title in the add_action statement (if your blog title is part of the image, for instance). You can use this anywhere on your blog really.

There’s a lot more tweaking that can be done to this function, but hopefully this works.

It has probably been a good 8 months since I bought the Thesis theme for WordPress. In my Thesis theme review I will go through the pros and cons of using the Thesis theme. Yes, it does cost $87 but by the end of this review I’m thinking that you will love the advantages of it.

Plus if you buy it now you will get free upgrades which is great because when Thesis version 2.0 comes out it will be $287. That way you won’t have to spend an extra $200 for it.

Like I said above, I have been a Thesis theme user for eight months. I was designing WordPress blogs before buying it but I was unable to get a lot of clients. I then I bought Thesis and created my Thesis theme by putting many different themes I liked together. And I myself fell in love with Thesis. It also has got me two clients a week for a blog design.

Thesis Theme Review

Using the Thesis theme is definitely a plus for me, but everyone is different. That’s why I will go through the pros and cons for the average WordPress user.

Pros

1. Best SEO theme I have used

I have used many themes and have created many themes. However, I have never got the search engine results I have got from Thesis. The framework is just totally primped out and search engines salivate over your content. It tells you something when people like Darren Rowse, Michael Gray, Brian Clark, and others alike have switched over (they want the goods too).

2. The basics are there, you can just add easy CSS to change the look

Trust me, you can change the look pretty easily. You have the design options and the Thesis options which will allow you to change fonts and their sizes. It also lets you choose how many sidebars you want and the widths of the sidebars plus your content.

You can add options like having teasers and feature posts. This was added later on, but the good thing is that all upgrades are free! That leads me to my next point.

3. Upgrades happen about every three months and are free

This is another great thing about the Thesis theme. You never have to worry that Thesis is not going to work with WordPress. Chris Pearson the creator of Thesis always makes sure that it stays compatible with the newest release of WordPress. Hardly any other theme out there does this.

You’ll also get new features with some of the upgrades and it will only make it easier to pimp your blog. And again, all these upgrades are absolutely free which is still astonishing considering most other themes do not do this.

4. You have a support forum

This is great. There are so many users of the Thesis theme now so you will always find someone in the support forum that is willing to help you. I have got to say, I have not seen better support. I have only had a few problems with the Thesis theme but my questions were answered right away.

If you have CSS questions to make your theme looks awesome, then you are going to find helpful people in the support form to help you out. Others themes out there do not have enough users and enough money to get this kind of help. Well, it is different with the Thesis theme. HELL YEAH!

5. Thesis Openhook plugin

This plugin is absolutely great for the Thesis. You’re going to like it because you are able to change your custom CSS and your custom functions all in your WordPress dashboard. Kick ass, right? My mom’s a teacher and she says that makes it a lot easier to fix up her website because everything she needs is located in one place.

That should definitely be enough pros for you. However, there are always cons for everything you buy. Here are some that I have found for the average user.

Cons

1. It looks boring from the start

It is quite a boring looking theme out of the box. It does not look like a great set of tits or anything. This is just one of those things you have to deal with. That’s why you have a great support forum to help you out.

2. You have to know some CSS and functions

Maybe I said that a little wrong because people in the support forum can help you with the CSS and functions. The thing is, if you learn some of this stuff you can always add on to your existing design. Have you ever had a theme that you wanted to tweak a little? Well, learning some of these things can definitely let you tweak it and even go beyond that.

3. It is $87

This is a big deal for people. I know how you feel. My own mother didn’t want to buy it but after I showed her how easy CSS can be too learn, that made her decide to get it. I did design her website for her but now she does everything else on her own. She adds stuff to her design and it looks better everyday. I believe the ease of use was the deciding factor of paying $87.

There you have it, my Thesis theme review. Yet, there are pros and cons. If you do not feel like this theme is for you, then don’t buy it. Just because everyone else is using it doesn’t mean you have to. Just remember the benefits of good search engine traffic, making your site look like your own, being proud of something you helped create, free upgrades so your theme is always working correctly with the newest release of WordPress, and knowing that your theme will always be pimped out to the fullest. The best thing is, I personally can help you with CSS. That is the best part!

As a blogger everyone wants to be more efficient whether they know it or not. 90% of all blogger’s do not blog as their full-time job. That means that most blogger’s need to be efficient otherwise you will not get much done in the day. Here are six tips I have for you to be more efficient so that you can be more productive everyday you work on your blog.

1. Have an idea journal

This is good because every time you get an idea for a post or anything else, you can just write it down. Too many times you are not around your computer and you forget an idea you have. Then when you need a post idea it will be right there in front of you. You will not have to take 15 to 30 minutes to think of an idea and plan it out. You already have your idea and plan written down in your journal. You should then be able to type up a post in 15 minutes.

2. Limit your reading time

Try to only takes 15 minutes every day to read other posts on the Internet. You should not take too much time reading tips and other things. Pick out a few of the best blogs and get new ideas from their posts everyday. You can only get so many tips everyday so 15 minutes should definitely give you enough time to read.

3. Track your traffic

This will tell you if you are doing things correctly or not. You never want to be doing a whole bunch of work and it’s not helping make your blog more successful. Use the plugin I talked about in my post track your SEO performance. It will show you what articles are getting traffic and from what websites were search engines. This will show you if you’re techniques are working.

4. Learn keyboard shortcuts

Learning keyboard shortcuts will make you what a more efficient. Whether it is for your browser or WordPress, you will definitely get things done quicker. Just go to Google and type Firefox shortcuts or whatever kind of shortcuts who were looking for.

5. Stop distractions

This is definitely a must. Turn the TV off, radio, video games, and everything else that is distracting. You will be much more efficient if you are only concentrating on your blog. What I have done is put my computer in a room where there is no TV or anything else that could distract me.

6. Do most important items first

You might as forget your most important things done so that you can help the blog right away. Being more efficient and productive definitely doesn’t mean getting the crap done first. The important things have got it down so you can continue to climb the ladder.

I know most of these are just basic common sense, but so many times people forget about them. If you just forget to turn the TV off it can definitely slow you down as you continue to look up and watch little bits. Make sure you do these things everyday as you work on your blog and you will definitely continue to see improvements.
