Memorial event today (8/22/26) at 9 AM on the Town Common Veterans Walkway to honor John W. Wyllie, Jr.

This program will include the placing of a Memorial Wreath for the day, the playing of Taps, a salute from those present, and a reading of whatever history may be available for that veteran. This is a way of keeping the memory of that veteran alive.

Aviation Radioman 2C John W. Wyllie, Jr., U.S. Navy

Aviation Radioman Second Class John W. Wyllie, Jr., son of John and Elizabeth Wyllie, was born on December 4, 1922. John lived with his parents and two sisters at 460 Washington Street. John attended the Franklin Public Schools and was a graduate of Franklin High School Class of 1941.

Aviation Radioman 2C John W. Wyllie, Jr. was in the service for 3 years during which he saw extensive combat flight duty in the various invasions in the South Pacific.

Aviation Radioman 2C John Wyllie had completed 11 months of combat duty in the South Pacific and was scheduled to go overseas again. In August of 1945, while on an authorized Navy patrol bomber training flight, John lost his life as the bomber exploded in midair and crashed into the sea 20 miles southwest of San Diego, CA.

Aviation Radioman 2C John W. Wyllie, Jr., U.S. Navy was 22 years old at the time of his death while in the service of his country during World War II.

I-90 Eastbound Traffic Shift Effective August 28

Overnight Ramp Closures at I-495/I-90 Interchange

August 24-27

What is Happening?

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing a traffic shift on I-90 eastbound and overnight ramp closures at the I-495/I-90 interchange to facilitate construction operations.

I-90 Westbound Traffic Shift

The traffic on I-90 eastbound will be shifted to its new temporary alignment the evening of Thursday, August 27. Temporary lane closures will be in place beginning at 8:00 PM on Thursday, August 27, until 5:00 AM on Friday, August 28 while the traffic shift is completed. At least one travel lane will remain open at all times.

In the event of inclement weather, these construction activities will be pushed back by 24 hours and temporary lane closures will be in place beginning at 8:00 PM on Friday, August 28 until 5:00 AM on Saturday, August 29.

The new alignment is expected to remain in place until mid-2027 when the third phase of the Railroad Bridge structure is completed.

Overnight Ramp Closures

The I-90 eastbound ramp to I-495 northbound (Exit 106) will be closed overnight on Monday, August 24 through Thursday, August 27 from 11:00 PM each night to 5:00 AM the following morning. During these overnight closures, the following detour will be in place:

Take I-495 southbound to Exit 54A (West Main Street, Hopkinton) to reverse direction back to I-495 northbound.

Additionally, the I-495 northbound ramp to I-90 East and West (Exit 58) will be closed nightly from Monday, August 24 through Thursday, August 27 from 11:00 PM each night to 5:00 AM the following morning. During these overnight closures, the following detour will be in place:

Take I-495 northbound to Exit 59B (Route 9 westbound) to reverse direction onto I-495 southbound to access I-90 East and West.

Appropriate signage, law enforcement details, and messaging will be in place to guide drivers through the work area.

Drivers traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.

All scheduled work is weather dependent and/or may be impacted due to an emergency.

About the Project

The purpose of the I-495/I-90 Interchange Improvements Project is to provide a safe and efficient interchange of the interstate highways I-495 & I-90. The project will replace the interchange, eliminate the old toll booth area and weaving areas, improve ramp spacing, acceleration, and deceleration lanes, and add an auxiliary lane from I-495 Northbound to Route 9. New bridges will be constructed on I-495 over I-90, on I-495 and I-90 over the MBTA/CSX/Amtrak lines, on I-495 Northbound over Flanders Road, and on Fruit Street.

Open House for Well 7/7A on Thursday, August 20

A few folks took advantage of the DPW Water/Sewer Division's open house to showcase the Well 7/7A pump station. The wells were taken off line about 4 years ago when PFAS levels triggered the move to offline.

A 0% loan from the State in addition to water rates has paid for the upgrade and the well is back online providing clean water with no PFAS.

Franklin TV will return sometime to create a video tour for those who were not able to attend.

Francis T. Crimmins Announces Candidacy For Massachusetts Governor’s Council, District 2

Francis T. “Frank” Crimmins is seeking election to the Massachusetts Governor’s Council in District 2, bringing more than four decades of experience in law, the judiciary, municipal government, and public service to an office with enormous responsibility for the Commonwealth’s justice system.

Crimmins has served Massachusetts as a District Court Judge, First Justice of the Stoughton District Court, attorney, Town Manager, Town Administrator, Selectman, Town Moderator, and member and chairman of the State Ballot Law Commission.

His campaign is built around a straightforward principle:

Experience Matters.

“The Governor’s Council is not a ceremonial position,” Crimmins said. “Councilors are asked to review the qualifications, temperament, experience, and judgment of the men and women nominated to serve on our courts. Those decisions affect public safety, families, constitutional rights, and confidence in our justice system. Experience matters when making decisions of that magnitude.”

The eight-member Governor’s Council reviews and votes on gubernatorial nominations to the judiciary and other important state positions. Yet despite the significance of those responsibilities, the Council remains one of the least understood elected bodies in the Massachusetts government.

Crimmins believes District 2 deserves a Councilor who understands the judicial system from the inside.

Having served on the bench himself, including as First Justice of the Stoughton District Court, Crimmins understands what is required of a Massachusetts judge and what should be expected of nominees seeking lifetime influence over the lives of citizens who enter our courtrooms.

The people who choose judges should understand the courtroom.

Frank Crimmins does.

“As a former judge, I know the responsibility that comes with putting on that robe,” Crimmins said. “A judge must have more than a good résumé. The position requires judgment, temperament, fairness, respect for the law, and an understanding that every decision can have a real impact on someone’s life.”

Crimmins said his experience will allow him to ask nominees meaningful questions rather than simply reviewing credentials on paper.

“The Council should never be a rubber stamp,” he said. “Its constitutional responsibility is to provide advice and consent. That means asking difficult questions, examining a nominee’s record, and making sure the people appointed to our courts have the experience, temperament, integrity, and respect for the law that Massachusetts citizens deserve.”

Crimmins’ career gives him a perspective few candidates for Governor’s Council can match. He served as a Massachusetts District Court Judge beginning in the 1990s and later became

First Justice of the Stoughton District Court. His judicial service also included work in the District

Court Appellate Division. After leaving the bench, he continued practicing law and later returned to municipal leadership, including service as Town Manager in Stoughton and Town Administrator in Avon. He has also served on the Massachusetts State Ballot Law Commission.

That combination of courtroom experience, legal knowledge, executive leadership, and public service is at the heart of the Crimmins campaign.

“This election should not be about political connections or simply occupying a seat,” Crimmins said. “It should be about qualifications. It should be about accountability. And it should be about whether the person representing District 2 has the background necessary to make informed decisions about the judiciary.”

Crimmins is also making public safety a central part of his campaign.

Judges routinely make decisions involving violent offenders, bail, sentencing, restraining orders, families, addiction, mental health, and constitutional rights. While the Governor’s Council does not decide those individual cases, it plays an important role in deciding who receives the authority to make those decisions.

“Public safety begins with good judgment,” Crimmins said. “When the Governor nominates someone to the bench, the Council has an obligation to determine whether that nominee is prepared for the responsibility. Those decisions deserve serious scrutiny.”

The campaign will also emphasize transparency and accountability within the Governor’s Council itself.

Crimmins believes voters should know how their Councilor evaluates nominees, what questions are being asked, and why consequential confirmation votes are being cast.

“The government earns trust through transparency,” Crimmins said. “People may not follow every Governor’s Council hearing, but they should be able to trust that their representative is doing the homework, asking the right questions, and putting the interests of the Commonwealth ahead of politics.”

Crimmins is seeking to represent Massachusetts Governor’s Council District 2, a geographically diverse district stretching across dozens of communities.

His campaign will focus on three fundamental commitments:

Experience. Accountability. Public Safety.

“The Governor’s Council has an important constitutional responsibility,” Crimmins said. “The people of District 2 deserve a Councilor prepared to perform that responsibility on day one.”

Experience matters. Qualifications matter. Judgment matters.

“And when Massachusetts is choosing the men and women who will sit on our courts,” Crimmins said, “we cannot afford to get it wrong.”

That unexpected package you got could be a brushing scam

Did you get a package you didn’t order? It could be a brushing scam where a scammer uses your name to leave a fake review for that package you didn’t order.

It could also be a sign that someone has (or is looking to steal) your personal information.

Yes, Franklin has it's own radio station -> wfpr.fm. Franklin Public Radio has a brand new schedule for the locally produced shows that fill our air waves.

It is available anywhere, anytime at wfpr.fm or in the local Franklin, MA area at 102.9 on the FM dial.

Memorial event today (8/20/26) at 9 AM on the Town Common Veterans Walkway to honor Edward C. Dailey.

Fallen Hero: Staff Sergeant Edward C. Dailey, U.S. Army Air Corps

Staff Sergeant Edward C. Dailey, U.S. Army Air Corps, son of John and Julia Dailey, was born on May 20, 1924. Edward lived with his parents and two sisters at 100 Union Street. Edward attended the Franklin public schools and graduated from Franklin High School in 1942. While at Franklin High, Edward was the captain of the basketball team and was an outstanding athlete in football and baseball as well.

Edward Dailey entered the army in 1943 and was assigned to the air force where he qualified as an aerial gunner. SSgt Edward Dailey participated in 11 bombing missions before the fatal mission which took his life in 1944. The following details of the mission were sent to Edward’s family, by Maurice J. Beacond, Jr., the pilot of the targeted plane: “Staff Sergeant Edward C. Dailey lost his life while on a bombing mission over Hungary in an attack of German fighter planes who concentrated their attack on the U.S. bomber. The bomber was fatally hit, caught fire from nose to bomb-bays, went into a vertical dive, and exploded.

Staff Sergeant Edward C. Dailey was 20 years old at the time of his death on August 20, 1944 somewhere over Hungary.

First Universalist Society in Franklin Welcomes New Minister - Rev. Chris Scheller

The Rev. Chris Scheller, the new minister at the First Universalist Society in Franklin, will be preaching his first service on September 13, 2026. Prior to joining FUSF, Rev. Chris was the Minister of Community Life and Learning at the UU Church of Greater Lynn.

He brings a deep knowledge of adult faith formation and extensive training in leading spiritual practices drawn from Buddhist, Christian, earth-based, and other traditions, in addition to his active commitment to social justice and anti-oppression work.

"Voices of Franklin! The first of many to come...

Held by Franklin Rotary Club, Franklin Senior Center, the Franklin Recreational Department, and Franklin Interact Club!"

About a dozen seniors and about 15 high school students gathers for a few games, some lunch (and conversation) then, the center piece discussion of the day.

A defining statement was provided, participants would raise the red card or green card if they disagree (red) or agreed (green) with the statement. Moderator Ryan Jette would then follow up with some of the individuals who raised red or green and the conversation ensued.

The next session is scheduled for November 19, a school half-day.
