<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>We have our annual visit from our sister schools in Osaka happening again in March this year and we are urgently seeking 48 host families from Frankston High School to host these Japanese students. They are 16 years old and do not need their own room. Your child does not have to do Japanese to host a student. Past host families have found the experience rewarding and enjoyable. A fee of $20 a day will be paid to each family to contribute towards guest expenses.</p>
<p>The Osaka dates are as follows:<br />
Osaka High School (Co-ed): 14 March &#8211; 21 March (7 nights)<br />
Osaka Seikei High School (all girls) : 22 March &#8211; 1 April (10 nights)</p>
<p>Please email Anne Thomson athomso@fhs.vic.edu.au or phone 0409 835 541 for further information.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Peninsula Health will be constructing a multi-storey car parking complex at Frankston Hospital. In order to build the complex, the Ambulance Victoria helipad will be temporarily relocated to Delacombe Park for a maximum period of 12 months (behind the Frankston South Recreation Centre). </p>
<p>On average the helipad is used less than once a week to transport critical patients and extremely ill babies to city hospitals. The infrequent nature of these flights will mean minimal disruption to the Delacombe Park area.</p>
<p>Construction of the temporary helipad will commence the first week in February where an access road and additional infrastructure will be put in place to make the area safe for the Air Ambulance to land. </p>
<p>The helipad will return to Frankston Hospital once the first stage of the car parking complex is complete and the park will return to its normal use.</p>
<p>Parents are requested to inform their children that students are required to stay well away from the helipad site at all times. Please note, Helicopters create much noise and a decent breeze upon landing and taking off.</p>

<p>We have negotiated a special price of $185.00 for the newest colour screen model (Ti Nspire CX) through Calculator King. Older versions of the Ti-Nspire are also acceptable and can now be picked up quite cheaply second hand.</p>
<p>If you missed the opportunity to purchase the calculator earlier in the week when they visited the school, Calculator King have assured us you can still obtain this special price by mentioning you are a parent of a student at Frankston High School. They can be contacted on<br />
1800 246 226, or at their shop at 33 Park Steet, South Melbourne.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Laura Corfield, one of the 2011 <a href="http://www.fhs.vic.edu.au">Frankston High School</a> year 12 students, has entered the <strong>You-Tube Spacelab competition</strong>. This competition requires the student to design an experiment which will be carried out by scientists on the International Space Station. Students have to be under 18 years of age and are required to film a presentation about the proposed experiment and upload it to a special section on You-Tube. I have included a link to her entry below: it is only 2 minutes so have a look if you have time. The theme of her presentation is about prevention of global warming which is very topical at the moment.</p>
<p>A huge thanks to Mr Shane Hunt who helped Laura film and put the presentation together; working across last weekend to put the video, power-point and sound files all together in the final presentation to meet the entry deadline.</p>
<p><strong>Congratulations</strong> to Laura and good luck to her: let’s hope she is successful and her experiment can be carried out on the space station. Laura has been working on this since she finished her year 12 exams and has also been tutoring year 11 students for no cost, to help them with their exams. She is a fine example of why we are so lucky as teachers at Frankston High School: the calibre of our students is world class.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Your help is needed please!</strong></p>
<p>On <strong>Thursday 24 November</strong> the Grounds Committee is holding the twilight working bee from 4.00 pm to 7.00 pm. We are requesting that, if possible, parents, students and staff assist in the completion of a number of grounds and maintenance tasks around the school.</p>
<p>This time has been suggested to allow parents and staff who have commitments on the traditional Sunday morning time to be able to attend. The evening will be well organised and the donation of your time will not be wasted, as there are a variety of tasks to be completed.</p>
<p>We are quite dependent on our working bees to help maintain our lovely grounds. It is also a good opportunity to meet other members of our school community.<br />
The school has some gardening tools but is always helpful if working bee members can bring their own as well. We will be mulching and planting, as well as generally cleaning up, so wheel barrows, shovels, secateurs and clippers would be particularly useful.</p>
<p>We meet at the Year 7 &#8211; 10 Campus Car park.</p>
<p>At the end of the working bee there will be a thank you sausage sizzle provided for all the people who have donated their time to assist in this activity. Please register using the form below</p>
<script type="text/javascript">var host = (("https:" == document.location.protocol) ? "https://secure." : "http://");document.write(unescape("%3Cscript src='" + host + "wufoo.com/scripts/embed/form.js'  type='text/javascript'%3E%3C/script%3E"));</script><script type='text/javascript'>var r7p8p5 = new WufooForm();r7p8p5.initialize({'userName':'ando', 'formHash':'r7p8p5', 'autoResize':true,'height':'467','header':'show' ,'ssl':true});r7p8p5.display();</script>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>WHEN:</strong> Wednesday, November 9th at 7:00pm</p>
<p>Frankston High School is proud to present Brett Lee, former police officer and cyber detective who specialised in investigating the exploitation of children online. Brett now speaks passionately as a cyber-safety expert whose presentation has been described as “unique and powerful” and delivers the knowledge parents need to protect their families from online harm.</p>
<p>Brett will present information and advice on the most current activities and issues your child may have participated in or experienced online, including chat rooms, messenger services, file sharing, social networking, cyber bullying and the legal responsibilities that relate to each. Brett also delves into the dark regions of society and the online world, warning of predatory activities and methodologies.</p>
<p>We encourage all parents and guardians to attend this event, at no cost, to assist Frankston High School in ensuring our community remains informed of the responsibilities, we have for our children in the online world. We will be extending invitations to our local feeder primary schools and the general wider community, so we encourage you book your seat early.</p>
<p>Seats are limited so please fill out the <a href="/cybersafety">Registration Form</a> and only book the number you will definitely require. You can alternatively call reception on 039 783 7955 to register your attendance.</p>
