As Elvis stated, it's his employer stifling his free speech. Not the US government.
He should head to Pennsylvania Ave to exercise his rights, otherwise we are all at the mercy of who signs our pay cheques.

Ok, I know there's an unwritten rule about mentioning Hitler in on online argument, since it's often a last resort of desperation, but I'm going there anyway. Let's say someone here interviewed Brian Burke, and he said, "You know, a lot of people hate Hitler, but I respect him. He stuck to his guns." do you honestly think that people here in Canada wouldn't have freaked??? Don't you think they would have demanded not only a suspension, but his dismissal? After all, to many of those Cuban refugees, Castro is as bad as Hitler.
Fred, I get your freedom of speech angle, but give me a break! To point fingers at the "good old USA" is hypocritical. We don't have a particularly stellar record of allowing free speech up here - I remember you stating that we in Canada have a more liberal policy for free speech than the US, but when you have University students forcing the cancellation of appearances by commentators like Ann Coulter, or protests anytime a US President is invited up here to speak, I have to laugh at you. This is just typical "we're so superior to those ignorant Americans" bullshit that Canadians are so good at.

I came away with neither the impression that he will be a fine NDP leader, nor that he may one day be Prime Minister.

No, I came away with the overwhelming suspicion that Mr. Mulcair had just been to the spa...

I agree with Elvis. I'd be up in arms if the govenment of the USA was trying to punish Ozzie, bu if he has said something publicly that his employers disagree with, it is their right to suspend/fire him. I can't just say whatever I want at my job. By your logic I could tell my boss that he is a fat idiot, and then hide behind freedom of speech.

The first amendment only guarantees freedom of speech by restricting any law of Congress from limiting this freedom. Ozzie's employers are free to limit his speech all they want.

I bet you even believe in a woman's right to choose too? Or do you side with harper and his reform party and the wacky republican/teaparty candidates the evangelical santorum and multi-millionaire romney in the US that this right to choose should be taken away from a woman? Even if she is raped or the baby is not healthy?

Now that your hero harper is cutting our CBC, about 650 jobs will be axed over the next 3 years......your daughter should probably start looking for work.....as the teabaggers north wishes and demands to kill CBC is becoming a sad reality.

One format that works in the U.S. is a business radio format. There are none in Canada from what I can see. Sirius/XM has some business stations. Seeing as Toronto is a financial hub, something like that could work well here.

we'll see how thei new leader performs. Obviously the ruling party has offered up tons of material. Bob Rae was basically the opposition lately as Nicole Turmel by most accounts wasn't up to it.But after her dealings with the Treasury Board and the PSAC how can she knock a government in power.

The Official Opposition is a funny little party? How so?

If it were truly a funny little party, how could it end up being in opposition? It isn't like the Monster Raving Loony Pary of Britain--it's a legitimate party that gained its second party status because a lot of Canadians thought they deserve a chance while the Liberals are having difficulties. And it isn't quite like "any port in a storm".

There is an NDP legacy in Canada largely because of its balance of power during minority Liberal governments.
Medicare and old age security
come from the NDP's influence during the Liberal minority governments of the '70s.

Funny little party, how?

We deserve an explanation to your thinking and the NDP deserve an apology for disrespecting them.

The Conservatives offer up lot of opportunity for rebuttals. Ironically with the Cons reaching a majority the Bloc COULD have been the opposition...now that would be worth 2 minutes on the Commons channel.
