Bluebonnet Tractor Ride - April 11

The Seventh Annual Bluebonnet Tractor Ride is scheduled for April 11. Each year the Hill Country Antique Tractor & Engine Club hosts an annual Tractor Ride. We have been hosting this event for a decade now and it has grown to be a favorite of tractor owners all over the state. Many tractor enthusiasts enjoy the day in the beautiful Texas Hill Country upon their tractor. The ride begins with registration and light morning refreshments. A “driver’s meeting” is held prior to the ride covering all of the safety rules and expectations of the participants. The tractor riders embark on a ride through some of the prettiest areas in the county and the ride begins.

Limited space is available on our “people hauler” for spouses and non-tractor riders who wish to participate in the days festivities. All riders stop for a noon meal where awards are given out for the “oldest tractor”, “oldest driver” and “farthest traveled rider”. Each year the Club also recognizes a hard working Club member for their dedication to the Club. Riders then climb back on their tractors and travel back to the starting point with the ride culminating around 3 pm in the afternoon.

The 7th Annual Reflections of the Sixties education conference at the LBJ Ranch is a learning opportunity for persons interested in understanding the impact of the 1960′s on the fabric of our country. Guest speakers will talk about topics relevant to the 1960′s and the role Lyndon B. Johnson played during this time.

This year, the 50th anniversary of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act will be celebrated. Highlighting the day will be a ceremony at 2 pm at the one-room Junction School. At that site on April 11, 1965, President Johnson signed the landmark law that for the first time provided extensive federal funding of the nation’s elementary, junior high and high schools.

Pacific Combat Living History Program - 4/11-12

The National Museum of the Pacific War's Pacific Combat Zone comes alive as re-enactors in authentic World War II uniforms discuss strategies involved during the Pacific theater and provide tours of a recreated battlefield. See U.S. and Japanese training and tactics demonstrated as well as a flame thrower, 50-caliber machine gun, Japanese light machine gun and various armored vehicles. Finally, witness an attack on a Japanese pillbox. Music fans are invited to help celebrate the life and music of Fredericksburg native son Frank Van der Stucken at the Van der Stucken Festival this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Halle, 212 West San Antonio Street, Fredericksburg TX. The event is free and open to the public.

The Van der Stucken Festival was established in 1991 by Friends of Van der Stucken to increase appreciation for the life and work of Fredericksburg native composer Frank Van der Stucken. This will be the first year that the nonprofit Fredericksburg Community Orchestras (FCO) presents the festival. This year’s program will introduce the first Van der Stucken Composition Contest. The winner of this nationwide competition will be announced at the festival and the winning composition will be premiered by an ensemble of FCO.

The Van der Stucken Festival is supported with contributions from the Pedernales Creative Arts Alliance, Monterrey Iron and Metal Works, and Jack Vexler, whose wife, Bette, is a direct descendant of Frank Van der Stucken.
