America; the name... a german connection

A work of art the above map was originally produced by a German Artist, a painter and mapmaker.It should be one of the most important pieces of art in North and or South America.

The obscure map is based on the travels and explorations of an Italian monk, his name was Amerigo Vespucci. The artist put the monk-explorer-travelers name somewhere on the American map in the area which is now known a Paraguay.(1500 about, and only a few years after Columbus/ Colon discovered what he believed to be India).

The work of art clearly depicts India on the left side as being totally separate from the newly found continent. This was first time ever that the American continent, in this case mostly south America was shown as a distinctly separate continent, of course the great distance to Asia ( Indian ocean) was not known at that time.

ceramic wall art..

I recently created a couple of wall art ceramic display items...small cut up ceramic tiles,similar thickness, various colours, glued to the bathroom wall...grouted and cleaned up.

There is a lot more work to this than it looks at first glance...I or my associate, Diana, can create this or similar displays for sale if you are interested. The cost, depending on materials and time spent on the project is somewhere between $250 and up..

Actually....you could try this yourself...it takes a bit of time and effort but can be a lot of fun and is not too difficult to do.

Start with the little tiles from the outside in,to get a nice rounded finish..

then the center...

last fill in the rest, I purposely made the top somewhat ragged..

...the girlie thing looks nice and was simple enough to do. The figure is actual Diana rear, felt tip marker to the wall...I used 4 colours of tiles, cut them up with a small hand held tile cutter and stuck them to the wall. To finish the work off...I used white grout prepared from powder.

About ten years ago, a friend owned a large painting, that was displayed in his home.

In a fire, this most interesting huge (4' x 6') picture apparently was destroyed leaving only part of its' frame. I just found this much the same or identical picture on the internet somewhere, no description or frame, just the picture....
